Can't assign tags to folder on shared drive

I'm having issues with assigning tags to a shared AFP folder.
On my shared drive I have a master folder, and within that I have 700+ other folders.
I can assign tags to certain folders within the master folder, but not others.
Any thoughts on how to fix that?

Disk Utility > File menu > New Blank Disk Image...
Create one on the desktop. You have the option of read/write format (which remains a fixed size as you add/remove files to it) or sparse format (size grows along with the size of the contents.) Specify 128-bit encryption. You will be prompted to choose a password for the image. Don't forget the password or the contents of the disk image will be lost.
Move the image to the external HD when you are done. You can then mount the image and add/remove files just as if the image were its own physical disk.

  • Can't find tagged songs folder

Have a 5th gen. ipod (classic?) newest verion of itunes and updated ipod, supposedly there should be a "tagged songs" folder unter the "store" header in itunes beneath "itunes store" and "purchased". Mine is not there at any time, i've synced the ipod, restored the ipod, re-installed itunes. Is it not compatable with tagging? Can't seem to find any mention of tagged songs in the owner's manual.

Beneath the iTunes Store and Purchased is Playlists. Do you mean Playlists? (Or even Shared?)
However, if the Playlists is missing...
move your mouse to the point as shown, and click on Show.
If this is not what you are referring to, you need to enlighten us, because I too, have no idea what else you could mean.

  • Can't mount or access Time Capsule shared drive after installing Mavericks

    Hi everyone,
I upgraded my MacBook Pro to Mavericks (10.9.2) last weekend and everything went fine at first.
However, after copying and moving several files from-to my Time Capsule, I can't access the shared drive anymore.
My Time Capsule is installed in a LAN and I can see it from all computers (it prompts for the security password). However, even as the "Data" volume in TC is shown on Finder, I cannot access it or browse any of the files on it, neither the backup files (sparsbundle) not the regular folders/files we kept there as a shared volume. (see screenshots). All I see is the "Data" folder as a "Sharepoint" (?). When I double click I see an error message: "The operation can't be completed because the original item for "Data" can't be found" (see screenshots attached).
I ran Airport Utility 6.3.2 and everything seems to be working well on the Time Capsule. It shows a solid green light and the firmware is up to date (7.6.4).
I need to recover my files from the drive (I don't care too much about the backup files as I can recreate them from scratch). I've been reading support forums all morning and couldn't figure out a way to do it.
I also tried the "Archive" function from Airport Utility to copy everything on TC to a USB drive and nothing happens (all I get is a Time Machine backup folder with zero items in it).
Any ideas on how to recover the files on the drive would be great!
    Thanks.

Have you tried shutting down the Time Capsule and then restarting it? Have you tried resetting it?
See pages 28 and 29. Using Airport Utility (page 29), I don’t see the options the manual says are there. I have done a reset and a full reset (page 28) many times and it has always straightened out the Time Capsule.

  • Can't access iTunes Library on a shared drive

Here is my problem: I want to access my iTunes library from a shared drive.
    Here is my equipment:
    1. Imac running iTunes 10.6
    2. 1 week old Macbook Air running iTunes 10.6
    3. 1 Timecapsule that is 1 day old, bought with the express purpose of putting my extensive iTunes library on it, and was assure I would be able to stream it.
    4. An Airport express hooked to my stereo.
The concept was that the Air doesn't really have the capability to hold all my music, but I want to use it as a "remote" to select songs through iTunes and play them on my stereo.
I did NOT want to leave my iMac on at all times and do homes haring that way.
Therefore, I followed intructions fonund else where and moved my iTunes library from my iMac to the newly installed shared drive on the Time Capsule.
I went into iTunes on the Air selected preferences, advanced, and changed the location of the Air's iTunes library to that of the one on the Time Capsule. It sees all the music. I close preferences.
What happens? Nothing. None of the music is listed on the Air
I've gone over this again and again, and this SHOULD work. What am I missing here? Should I take the Air and the Timecapsule back to the store?

Uh, I fear you followed some wrong directions. This is what you should have done:
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
do not confuse moving your whole folder and library with moving just media files as in
iTunes for Mac: Moving your iTunes Media folder - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1449
It sounds as if in part at least this is what you did, at least when you say you are going to preferences and changing things.
Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.  Do this with both computers if the shared library file is on the external drive.
Note, the file can only be in use by one computer at a time.  You will have to quit iTunes on one computer before opening it on another.

  • Link to fold on shared drive from PDF

    Hi all,
I have a PDF document that I would like a text box to link (open a shared drive)to a shard folder drive. I have tried the file:/// (path) but it does not work.
I basically want a visual box a user clicks to go to the specific folder on the drive as the address name is very long.
    Anyone have ideas?
    Thanks,

The PDF language allows for any type of URI that you wish to supply, which may point to a file, folder or any other object.
However, do to security concerns, a conforming PDF viewer (such as Adobe Acrobat or Reader) may choose not to implement all possible URI schemes. in this particular case, Acrobat/Reader do not support a "folder" scheme.

  • HT2905 Can I delete albums in folder on hard drive

I am trying to clean up harddrive space on my laptop, all my albums are in a MP3 folder and Itunes folder. Can I delete the MP3 folder?

To be on the safe side use File > Library > Consolidate Files, you would then be certain that iTunes is only using the copies inside the iTunes Media folder and that any others were safe to delete.
It's always a good idea to have a backup, particularly before undertaking any major organizational activity in case something goes wrong.

  • Can't See Albums Within Folder on Shared iPhoto Library

My G5 is set to share its iPhoto library, and I can see most of the albums from my Ti-Book's iPhoto. But the Ti-Book can't see G5 albums which are located within iPhoto folders. Am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks, Will

I'd like to know the same thing. Why do albums within folders not show up separately when shared?
I've tried searching for this within the discussion area here, but I frankly find searching here to be very unfulfilling. I'm sure the answer is somewhere, but searching all of the obvious words in various combinations (iphoto shared folders albums) produces mostly garbage results. I also love how including quotes around something prompts quotation marks to appear in the search. Brilliant (sarcasm).

  • Mac can't see files on Windows XP shared drive

I'm trying to move about 180Gb of files from an external USB 2.0-connected hard drive on my networked Windows XP machine. The drive is marked for sharing, and I can see the first layer of folders on the drive, as well as see and identify the 3 files that are on the same first layer as the folders. When I open a folder, however, no files or folders are visible to the Mac, and the info bar says no files are in the folder, but it gives me the correct free space on the drive. I have 2 similar hard drives on the XP machine, and the same situation holds for both drives. I'm quite puzzled, and, needless to say, frustrated.

Are you trying to access the USB drive connected to an XP machine from your Mac?
There are several issues at play here, and you might search these discussions for "connecting to Windows". I have a similar challenge connecting to shared folders on my XP machine.
In your case it might be simpler to simply reconnect the USB drive to your Mac.
Another method is to turn on File Sharing and enable SMB on your Mac, create Network Places on your XP machine, mount the Mac folders in XP and move the files using the XP machine. That works more easily for me.

  • Can No Longer See User Folder in Intrnl Drive after transferring to Ext Drv

I'm trying very hard not to freak out right now, but I can no longer see my User Folder/Home in the Finder Bar after dragging and dropping it into the my newly formatted Seagate External Drive. I have OS 10.4.11 and am trying to install Snow Leopard, but before I do I wanted to back-up my hard drive. So I plugged in the Seagate, formated it for Macs, and then dragged and dropped he User Folder into the Seagate and now it is gone!
Would greatly appreciate advice on how to find the User Folder so I can return it to the Internal Drive AND help on how to properly copy it to the Seagate External Drive as I have been unsuccessful.
    Many thanks!

Not really. I previously tried that already. I added Chinese (Taiwan) and moved up pre-existing English as the phone language. Also set navigation voice in Here Drive+ to Chinese. Result:
    1. Street names still shows in English (it goes with phone language obviously), like "Da Xing Rd." However, some landmarks will show in both languages.
    2. Navigation voice is in Chinese but all the street names are announced in English, so e.g. "Da Xing Rd." is announced as "Da-Sing-R-D". ("St." will be announced as "S-T"...) (This is the same as in WP8)
    Thank you.

  • How can I move iTunes music folder to another drive?

I have iTunes version 7.1 running on a notebook with Windows Vista. My iTunes music folder is becoming too large for the C; drive and I am having problems successfully moving it to the D: drive.
I know the folder is in the D: drive because I can see it there. I have followed guidance on how to link it to iTunes: Edit / Preferences / Advanced / General / Change (choosing iTunes music folder on the D: drive) / OK. I have also ticked the "Keep iTunes Music folder organised" box, as well as the "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" box. Nevertheless, when I open iTunes my music does not appear in the library.
    What am I doing wrong?

Firstly there is more than one kind of iTunes Library file:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93732
Secondly you should consolidate your library:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesMac/7.3/en/670x.html
The following link will give you the instructions to move iTunes to an EHD. These instructions need to be followed EXACTLY.
The 2 metadata files within the main iTunes folder must stay on the main drive of your system as that is their "home", they can't be moved.
    Now read this:

  • How can I move my /library folder to another drive?

I'll try and keep this as brief as possible. (tl;dr version: My library folder is on the wrong drive. How can I move it?)
About 18 months ago I switched the HDD in my mid 2009 MBP for an SSD and replaced the optical drive with a larger HDD for storage, which I then moved my home folder onto (though of course not the library folder).
This weekend the HDD got corrupted and I had to do a full erase/restore through time machine, and until I had reformatted the HDD I could not even log in. Once I had erased it I could log in again, but although the old library folder still exists on the boot SSD, it has replaced the (of course now missing until my TM restore is complete) home folder with a new one on the HDD and set up a new default library folder.
I could copy the old library files into the new folder, but I'd prefer to have the library on the SSD, so what I want to know is how would I get OSX to recognise the old library? Or if I just updated the new one, could I move it?
I know moving the library is a bit of a minefield, so I'm hoping one of you can help!

You should leave the Library folder that is at top-level on the Boot drive right where it is.
The ~/Library (in your user_Id) folder should be moved off the Boot drive with the rest of your User files if you choose to move the Home folders.
    What are you talking about?

  • Can't make a new folder on external drive

I want to copie a folder from my harddisk to an external disk.
I can see the external disk in Finder, but when i click the menu to add a new folder it isn't highlighted, so i can't choose that option.
i checked my account but i'am the only user.
    What could be the problem?

    Hi,

After buying my fisrt Mac mini I phoned with Apple and they helped me to connect this external harddrive and an other one. One was set to function as a time machine and the other one I could use to back-up or whatever.
I'm am sure that everything was working correctly.
Now I can't cpoy things anymore. The only thing that has changed is that I can't phone Apple anymore (> 3mnths) and I upgraded to Lion.
    Could ths be the problem?
In diskutility I can see that the structure is NTFS and the owner is not applied. Yhe only thing I can click on is "check disk" but I get a message that this ia a non valid request. There are no further options.
I bought 2 new harddrives from Samsung and the only thing I want to do is put my photo's and videos from that old disk to yhe new one.
I bought these new harddrives because the one that was set to Time Machine isn't working anymore. When I put it on it starts clicking, so I think its broken. If this would also happens to the other one I lost my complete photo archive nad video!!!
To prevent this I bought two new disks, but how can I get my stuff on to it?????
ps; I tried to log in as rootuser but this gives me no more options in diskutility!!

Mac OSX does not write to NTFS disks, you'll need to reformat the drive to either Fat32 or HFS

  • About to fit SSD to take OS & Apps - can I locate my Home folder on another drive?

    Hi community.
I am shortly to fit a new SSD (probably 240GB) in the primary bay of my MacBook Pro (17", 2.66GHz i7, mid 2010, model MacBookPro6'1). I'm going to retain the existing 500GB drive and mount it in the optical drive bay for data. I will be installing Mountain Lion as the OS on the SSD to begin with (I may upgrade to Mavericks). I will then be running Boot Camp to partition the SSD (probably 120/120) and install Windows 7 (I am doing this to run Autodesk Revit for a course).
My current drive has some 150GB of space used, 107GB of that in the Users folder. What I want to do is locate all of that data on the drive that will be in the optical drive bay. I assume that's feasible enough? Any reason I shouldn't do it? Any other wisdom to offer?
    Thanks in advance.

    You can and should.
How to use an SSD with your HDD
If you are going to use an SSD as a boot drive together with your existing HDD as the "data" drive, here's what you can do.
After installing the SSD you will need to partition and format the SSD using Disk Utility. Then, install OS X on the SSD. After OS X has been installed boot from the SSD. Use Startup Disk preferences to set the SSD as the startup volume.
Open Users & Groups preferences. Click on the lock icon and authenticate. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on your user account listing in the sidebar and select Advanced Options from the context menu.
You will see a field labeled "Home dir:" At the right end you will see a Change button. Click on it. In the file dialog locate the Home folder now located on the HDD (HDD/Users/account_name/.) Select the folder, click on Open button. Restart the computer as directed.
When the computer boots up it will now be using the Home folder located on the HDD.
Another more technical method involving the Terminal and aliases is discussed in depth here: Using OS X with an SSD plus HDD setup - Matt Gemmell. This is my preferred approach because I can select which of the Home's folders I want on the HDD and which I don't want. For example, I like to keep the Documents and Library folders on the SSD because I access their content frequently.
Be sure you retain the fully bootable system on your HDD in case you ever need it.
