Can't Associate AE File Types

I am running Adobe Creative Suites CS4 for my company. However, we had a file we needed to open so we also installed After Effects CS5.5.
However, now all the AE files open in CS5.5 and this doesn't work for us as our plugsin are installed in CS4. I've tried several times in Windows 7 to associate AE files back to CS4.I've tried through the Control Panel under Default Programs and the right click context menu by "Open With". The problem is when I nativate to the After Effects.exe for CS4, it WILL NOT load in the Windows menu to allow me to re-associate it. The only option remains CS 5.5.
Any way I can perhaps manualy associate these files by doing some kind of edit in the Registry?
Thanks!

See this or that on how to change icons for associated file types in Windows 7 or just do a Google search...
Bear in mind that the location of file you may want to pick an icon from is
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CS4\Support Files\AfterFX.exe

  • Associate a File Type with a JAR

How do I get XP to associate a file type with a JAR application? Since the extension on the application is JAR, I get a message from XP that I can't associate with it since it is not exe.

Look at the association for the JAR extension, you'll find that it uses javaw.exe and the "open" action is mapped to some command line involving javaw.exe and %1 which represents the jar file to be executed. Now, for your extension make a very similar setup, only your "open" command line will look something like this:
    "C:\...\javaw.exe" -jar YourSpecialJar.jar "%1" %*
That command line runs your jar file and passes the file being "opened" to the command line as the first parameter. (I don't know what the %* does but it's in the command line for the jar extension.)

  • Associate a file type or protocol with a program.

I have Windows Vista… and I tried to change the program to open file .url "Internet Shortcut" with Safari, I went to Start > Control Panel > Default Programs > Associate a file type or protocol with a program.
The 'Associate a file type or protocol with a program' dialog box is displayed.
Under the 'Extensions' heading, select '.url' and click the 'Change program…' button.
The 'Open With' dialog box is displayed.
But, Safari does not appear in the list of 'Recommended Programs', then click the 'Browse…' button.
A second 'Open With' dialog box is displayed, - Program Files - Safari - Safari.exe - Click 'Open' to open .url files with Safari, but Safari does not appear - continue IExplorer -
Safari is my default browser, but IExplorer has 3 out of 9 defaults (.mht, .mhtml, .url) and Safari has 8 out of 9 defaults (except .url)
Why Safari set as Default Browser does not open .url files (Internet Shortcut) ???
Any help will be appreciate. Thanks.

yes, it's not in your list of recommended programs.
Click Browse and find your "Safari.exe" file.
If you can't find Safari.exe, do a search for files and click "Advanced" to search for system and hidden files too.

  • How to associate .c4d file type to Cinema 4D?

I have opened After Effects CC multiple times, created and saved .c4d files from Cinema 4D Lite and dragged .c4d files onto both applications. I have also restarted the computer many times. The system is running on a new installation on Mac OS on a drive formatted just 2 weeks ago so there should be no issues from strange system changes.
The .c4d files still appear with a Terminal icon and association on Mac OS X. Even when I use "Open With". This is annoying because it is hard to visually find these files without the proper icon on them. They even have the Terminal icon when imported into After Effects.
How can I change the icon system-wide to be correct?

Unless you have a full version of C4D you will have to open C4D lite from inside AE. It's part of the licensing agreement and there is no way around it.
The Mac user forums have tutorials on creating a custom icon for file types. I'd look there. You can't associate C4D files with C4D lite because of the licensing.

  • Can't associate .pdf files as Acrobat, opens Distiller instead

I can't associate .pdf files as Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional. Instead, opens it opens Acrobat Distiller. When I go to the file association in the Control Panel, it doesn't even show Adobe Acrobat as a program. So I browse & find it & select the Adobe.exe file in the program files in Adobe Acrobat directory, but it does not work. Help!

I used the Adobe.exe file as the file association to open the .pdf files, but it still does not open Adobe Acrobat & opens the file with Adobe Distiller instead & I don't know why. I can only open the files from within the Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional software, but not from file manager or by using explore. I am using Windows Vista as the operating system.

  • How can I associat ".swf" files with flashlite 2.1

How can I associate ".swf" files with flashlite 2.1? When I
install flash lite 2.0,it can do ---- click .swf files system can
autoly use flashlite to play. But now I install flashlite 2.1,it
lost this ability return as "unknow files formate".
Now,how can I reassociate ".swf" with flashlite 2.1?
first: I must use flashlite 2.1.
second:I must click .swf file directly.
I know another way to open :open the player and then find the
.swf, and open it. But ,unfortunately,I can not use this way to
open. Now I will be looking for another way.

unfortunately, the 2.1 developer edition you have installed
has not overwritten the original version integrated into the
symbian OS by the manufacturer. This means that the only way to
open the 2.1 files is to open the 2.1 player from your apps menuu,
and click on the swf file. You will only get direct access if the
updated player is in a firmware update for you handset.

  • Can't associate PSD file with Photoshop CC in Win 7!

I just updated from Photoshop CS6 to CC. All of the file types I had associated with CS6 reverted to a default image program. When I attempted to associate these files, including photoshop psd files, win7 refused to recognize CC as a program I could associate files with! Has anyone else had this issue? Solution?
    Thanks so much
    Bill

By any chance did you un-install CS6 after installing CC.  Adobe un-installers have always been a problem for me and I have stopped using them.. Now  I just wipe out older Photoshop versions install tree and remove its un-install entries in windows registry.  What I think may have happened if you did un-install CS6 after installing CC is. The CS6 un-install restore the file association it had updated to the applications that were in effect before CS6 was installed. Even though CS6 associations had been updated by the CC install to CC. So the associations reverted back to your very old associations.  When you installed CC the second time the install updated you file associations again.

  • Can I exclude certain file types in the Photo Downloader?

    Hi there!
I am very new here, so please do correct me on etiquette and if I'm doing something wrong. I've been searching the web for quite a while now but couldn't find an answer or even questions concerning this problem...
I like using Bridge's Photo Downloader, for the nice renaming and other options it gives me. Usually I want to download all images from a card and then delete them on the card. The problem I am having is that Photo Downloader will not only see images (like .JPG, .CR2 or .ARW) but camera database files and settings (.INT, .BDM, .BIN, ...). This is annoying, since I neither want them stored on my hard drive nor deleted on my card. I also would like to import movies in a different way. The way I can work around this now is that I manually deselect all non-images in the Advanced Dialog and then only download these. But I was hoping that there is a more elegant and automatic way to just exclude certain file types from automatic selection. Or even just a way to mark or unmark the images by file type. This should be very easy to implement and I am really curious if I am missing something obvious here or if this is just not possible yet.
Has anyone else thought this before? Or are you all using different methods to import images from your card reader?
Any help or comment is appreciated.

Sorry, download history is either on or off. There is no preference setting to exclude specific file types.

    if(pageContext.getParameter("FileUpload") != null)
    DataObject fileUploadData = (DataObject)pageContext.getNamedDataObject("Bean id of OAFileUploadBean ");
    String contentType = fileUploadData.selectValue(null, "UPLOAD_FILE_MIME_TYPE");
//Write logic here to limit the file type
}For more details read JavaDoc as well as refer below thread

  • Can't open .fir file type

I am trying to upgrade the firmware on my Canon camera.  The firmware file is a .fir file type.  I can't open/run this file on either Mac or Boot Camp running Windows.  Any help would be appreciated.

Are you sure that you are meant to open that on the computer? I shoot Nikon and I download firmware updates, copy them to the Card and insert that in the camera, never open them on the Mac.
Check the updating instructions. Just a guess.

  • Page Snapshot on Mac using Shift+Command+4, can I change the file type?

Is there a way to have this feature save the screen shot as a .jpg or something other than .png?
    Thanks for The help!

Actually you can change the file type, using a defaults write command in Terminal. Whatever you select changes the file type for all screenshots until/unless you globally change it again. All OnyX does is run this command in the program's interface--if you don't know how to use Terminal you may prefer this. If you want to use Terminal, you would launch it, then copy this command:
    defaults write com.apple.screencapture type jpg
Paste it into the Terminal window and then press the Return key. I believe you need to restart for the change to take effect.

  • Cannot associate media file types .swf .flv with Adobe Flash media player

I have been trying to associate these media types ( .swf .flv ) with Adobe Flash media player (9.0.124 latest from Adobe site) but cannot see the program in the list (looked under Adobe, Flash, Macromedia, Common etc) after loading. I have repeated the process, rebooted, and no luck.
Any ideas why a new program should not show in the Programs list ?

Thanks, I'm curious to find out what's different. I've repair disk permissions again using the one in Disk Utility instead of Cocktail with not luck As far as I can tell, all my issues seem to be occurring solely on www.adultswim.com and is sill happening with Camino, Firefox, Safari, and SWF & FLV Player. I'll keep checking other sites to see if the problem manifests itself elsewhere and I'll post any other changes I make to my system that might appear to help.

  • Can't associate INDD files with InDesign CC 2014 (Windows 7)

After updating to CC 2014, I noticed that my file associations for all my Creative Cloud applications were pointing to the wrong places. I assume this is because the new updates are actually different versions of the application and installed as completely separate apps. I was able to adjust my PSD and AI files to point to their new CC 2014 counterpart just fine, but when I tried setting the file association for INDD files, I noticed that the file type did not show up in the Windows 7 control panel file association list. So, instead I went directly to an INDD file on my computer, right-clicked, selected "Open with...", clicked "Browse..." and navigated to "InDesign.exe." When I selected it and pressed OK, it failed to change the file association. Repeating the process has not helped and now the only way to open an INDD file is to drag and drop it into the workspace of InDesign CC 2014. After restarting my computer, the INDD file type is now showing up in the Windows 7 control panel file association list, but it still is not allowing me to change the association.

No, I did not. I'm running the 2014 Release version of InDesign for Windows (see screenshot below). And as far as I'm aware, Adobe has not released another update to the 2014 release version. I used to have the older version of InDesign Creative Cloud installed as well (the version right before the 2014 release), but have since uninstalled it as didn't want or need two versions of InDesign. I may just try re-installing the 2014 release version and see if that fixes things.

  • Can customize sequence of file type options while clicking export icon?

In our project, we are using Vs.net2008 + CrystalReport2008 component.
But there's an issue while export reports. We are using the standard CrystalReportViewer and show the "export report" icon on the toolbar. When user clicks that icon, it pop-ups the Export Report dialog for save to a file.
But our customers wish to see the "PDF(.pdf)" at the default file type option not the "(Crystal Reports (.rpt)".
Is that possible to configure inside CrystalReportViewer?

Only option is to create your own export button and display then in the order you wish and which export types you want to support etc...
    Thank you
