Can't attach files in Mail

I am unable to attach files created in Pages to e-mails composed in Mail. I used to be able to do this, but recently all of the files in my documents folders are either showing up as "grayed out" and thus are unavailable to attach, or (worse) they're not even showing up at all. This is true whether they're saved as Pages files or as Word or pdf files. I would like to once again be able to attach files in my Mail e-mail accounts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you attach files from any other location?
I would suggest rebuilding your mailboxes in mail and then repairing permissions.

Have updated the IOS to 10.8.5, ever since , I'm not able to attach files to mail ....... Any solutions ?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • Bug ? I Can't attach files to mails in Mountain Lion...

Shift-Cmd A no longer works and neither does clicking on the paperclip icon at the top of the message window. For the moment I am having to cut and paste from other programs but it can't go on like this ! What's the problem and where to fix it ?

Mail sends certain kinds of graphical attachments as inline content. The decision to do that was made for you by Apple. There's no built-in way to override it, as far as I know.
The recipient's mail client may or may not take Mail's suggestion to display the content inline.
    You have these options:
Zip the files before attaching them to the message.
Use something like Attachment Tamer. (That's not an endorsement — it may cause problems.)
Use another mail client that allows for more control over the format of outgoing messages.

  • Can't Attach Files in 10.9 Mail via Menubar/Toolbar

All of a sudden I cannot attach files in Mail via menu commands.  A selection (finder) window opens but all items are grayed out (no matter what location).  I can still attach files by dragging them from the Desktop (or other location) into the body of the email.
    Isolation:
-Issue persists in Safari when logging into webmail.
--Choosing to "attach" a file to an email (new composure or reply) from the webmail attach links brings up a Finder window with all content grayed out.
    -Created test admin user.
    --logged in as new user.
--set up Mail w/ an email account.
--attempted file attachment from menubar/toolbar icons.
    --works.
    ***issue is user specific.
    Resolution:
    -Access primary user ~/Library/Preferences/.
--locate files named "com.apple.finder" .plist (may have multiple files w/ additional characters).
--select all and move to Trash.
    --Restart.
    -log in and test.

Your profile indicates you are running a very old version of Leopard which might explain the issue.
Update to 10.5.8 using the combo update (not the auto software update) and see if that fixes your problem.

  • Can not attach files to certain mail accounts in mail

I have three e-mail accounts (pop3) which I use Mail to get and send mail. But it seems I can only attach files to one account and not the other two accounts. the only workaround I found is to start attaching the files to the account which can take attachments and before I sent switch to the other account. Surprisingly the Attachment stays.
    any idea

    Hi Caroline,
Are you trying to attach a file to the message without typing anything in the message body? You need to have typed something, even a space, in the message body before attachments will attach.
Not sure exactly when, but this has been a 'feature' of Mail for a while now, and one that I personally dislike.

  • How to attach files to mail

When I attach files to mails (.pdf, .jpg, .docx etc.), they arrive in Windows Outlook embedded. My mail settings are "Always Send Windows-Friendly Attachments" and "Always Insert Attachments at End of Message".
I know how to open these attachments in Windows Outlook but my recipients do not. To suggest that they learn how to, as I have seen in some places, is arrogant. If I apply for a job by email and attach my resume with instructions on how to open it will reduce my chances of getting that job close to zero.
How can I attach files that will be received as files and can be opened by the MS Windows recipient with left mouse clicks?

Another way to send files to others is to use Dropbox.
In your email you don't attach the file, but rather include a link that you reciepeints then use to download the file.
I use this method for particularly large files, but it can be used for any file.

  • All of a sudden today I can't attach files in gmail using Mozilla...can in IE & Chrome.

I have cleared cache, cookies, defragged, cleaned computer. I have looked at all the solutions on line and can't figure out why all of a sudden I can't attach files in Mozilla but can using IE & Chrome. Please help. I have not done anything between when I turned the computer off last night and turned it on today.

Mine suddenly broke as well today. I tried everything from resetting firefox, to clearing cache, to starting ff in safe mode. No change. I finally figured out if I turned off popup blocking, it would work. I then figured out I could add mail.google.com to the popup exceptions list and voila, it worked!

  • Can't attach files in any email AOL, yahoo, or company. Also only shows blank page when accessing yahoo email.

In any web mail program AOL, Yahoo, my companies you can not attach files when composing an email. By the attach button/icon it says "no file selected" (or when you hover over it). This happens in safe mode also. Also browser speed is very slow. After logging in to my yahoo mail I get a blank page. In the title bar it says I have x amount of emails.
I reinstalled Firefox and for about 60 seconds it was fast and yahoo opened fine and I was able to attach emails in yahoo and my company account. After that it reverted back to being slow and not attaching and opening yahoo to a blank page.
I have run spybot and malware and removed all found threats. I believe something is infecting Firefox. IE and Chrome do not have this problem. Any help would be appreciated as I am at a loss.

antivirus was not a problem since there was not one installed. Firewall settings are fine. I did just finally resolve this issue. Spyhunter was able to detect a couple of hijackers that the other programs did not and this fixed the problem. As I stated in the original post I did suspect this was the issue. The lesson learned is to run multiple malware programs until you find one that eliminates the problem if you suspect malware as the problem.

  • Can not attach files

I can not attach files in my emails. I have to use web mail which I do not like.
I select attachment in mac mail and nothing happens.
    This is really a pain.
    Help
    Thanks

Not sure why this problem exist but reinstalling just Macmail will most likely not solve the problem.
If "Cocobop" deleted the "com.apple.mail.plist"? This is kinda the same as a reinstall. Mac applications do not normally just go bad. The answer may be in a reinstall of OSX or an "Archive and Install" of OSX.
But to those reading this post try deleting the "com.apple.mail.plist" first.
And yes the answer to your question... You can reinstall only the Macmail app.

  • I can't attach documents to mail unless I use iPhoto

I can attach JPEGs using iPhoto, but I can't attach files to a message by using the "choose file" button when using the attach browser. When I drag items to the email it shows the green plus sign, but does not attach anything.
This use to work just fine, the only thing that has changed since then is that I installed Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac. Any ideas? Thanks
