Can't authenticate Windows account

Hi guys. I'm trying to log onto my Windows XP computer over Leopard's SMB share, but whenever I mount the computer share and try to enter my user name and password from the XP computer, all that ever happens is the authentication window disappears, and I end up logged in as a Guest user. I've tried it with a couple of different test accounts on the Windows computer, but no joy. Any suggestions?
Also, is there any reason why the Windows computer pretty regularly disappears from the Finder sidebar for seemingly no reason?
Thanks!

Ah well that's irritating. How do things like this slip through Apple's obviously extensive testing? Another possible bug I've found is that I can't connect to a Vista computer on my network at all. It shows up in the sidebar, but that's as far as connecting goes. Does Vista sharing work in Leopard?

  • Message: we can't remove windows accounts

We have installed Office 2013 Pro Plus via our E3 O365 subscription. It automatically connects the components (Word, Excel, ...) to the domain user account [email protected] in
    our case.
We want to get rid of that account and connect Word, etc to the O365 account of each user.
It turns out that we misspelled the name of a new user in Active Directory. We corrected the error in the name in AD, but the name still has the error in Word, and other Office programs. Where can we correct the name or how can we get rid of this account and
change it in the O365 account?
We can setup a connection to the O365 account but everytime an old document (= created/opened earlier with a connection to the .local account) is opened it hooks up to the .local (domain account).
We can not sign out of the .local account, then we get "We can't remove Windows accounts"
    A solution is really appreciated.!

Because once you use Disk Utility to do any repartitioning after creating the BC partition, then BCA cannot manage the disk any more. Too bad you did not first read the BC documentation that you can print out from BCA.
    What you need to do:
    Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Steps 4-6 are optional but should be used on a drive that has never been formatted before, if the format type is not Mac OS Extended, if the partition scheme has been changed, or if a different operating system (not OS X) has been installed on the drive.

  • User can't authenticate...auth-failed/windows workstation not allowed

Keep on running into an odd problem. I have some users logging in via soft vpn connection. Yesterday, they were able to log in without a problem. Today they are getting 01/31/2007 08:09:21
    Authen failed
Windows workstation not allowed .. ..
Why can they authenticate 1 day and then be denied. This happened last week as well. The server adminstrator seemed to think it was a user setup issue and gave them another user account. Now as you can see above, the same thing has happened. I don't get it. Any help would be appreciated.

For ACS to perform Windows authentications we need to specifiy a workstation name.
In AD , the user should have access to all computers.
    OR
A computer account named CISCO should exist.
All users that Windows will authenticate have permission to log in to the computer named CISCO.
ACS shows this error message only when the user tries to login from a work station he has no permission to log on.
If you are using ACS 4.1 this link will be useul.

  • How can I start two FF instances under two Windows accounts at once w/o -no-remote? I need to be able to send URLs to them.

I have one FF (36.0) installation and two Windows user accounts: one for work (w/o internet access but with access to domain resources like JIRA) and one for internet access (w/o access to local resources). I need two instances of FF running at the same time with different resources.
I've created profiles with different names under both accounts and specify profile names using -p parameter. However when I try to start both instances of FF (second one is started via RUNAS), second instance can't be started, new tab in already running instance is opened instead:
    firefox.exe -p profile
    runas.exe /profile /savecred /user:user_i "\"firefox.exe\" -p profile_i"
When I start one of them with -no-profile, I can start both at once... but when I try to execute firefox.exe with an URL in order to open a tab with this URL in one of running instances (local URLs I open by starting firefox.exe under work account and remote URLs I open by starting FF via RUNAS), it can't sent URL to already running instance of same user, it always sends URLs to an instance that is runnung w/o -no-remote.
    firefox.exe -p profile -url "url"
    runas.exe /profile /savecred /user:user_i "\"firefox.exe\" -p profile_i -url \"url\""
So, I need to have two instances under two different Windows user accounts, and when firefox.exe is started again, it should only communicate with instance that is running under same user account, it must not communicate with instance that is running under different Windows account.

  • Mac os x wiki server can't authenticate user password from active directory recently after we upgraded to windows 2008 server.

after upgraded to windows 2008 server, our  mac os x wiki server can't authenticate user password anymore. How can I re-bind the wiki server to the AD again? thanks in advance.

Solved it by deleting the user and creating a new one with the same userID.
Maybe it occured because I marked the "user has to change password after first login" box when resetting the password but didn't yet allow him to do so in the webpages menu?!?

If the modem is also a router, either use the modem in bridge and run pppoe client on the TC.. that is assuming ADSL or similar eg vdsl. If it is cable service.. and the modem is a router, then bridge the TC.. go to internet page and select connect by ethernet and below that set connection sharing to bridge.
Please tell us more about the modem if the above gives you issues.

  • ACS 4.2 failure to authenticate windows users

Hi all , we have a bit of a problem which we cannot seem to resolve.
The ACS can authenticate people using local database , it can also authenticate a single user (using windows database) if you are fast after the service is restarted , however after a few secounds, it fails to authenticate any users , the error we are seeing on the logs appear as authentication failure type : internal error. Also on the log files, the authentication request from the user does not appear in the correct group, it is thrown into the default group.
Any ideas on where we should look to the problem?

  • Can't Authenticate - but I'm the admin!

I have a problem. I can't authenticate anything that needs an admin password. Take software update for instance. It says 'Type an administrator's name and password to make changes to Software Update.' So I enter my name and my password and it denies it! Here is the context 1) I am the only OSX user (obviously there are other users, mysql, wheel, etc) 2) I am marked as Admin in the 'Accounts' panel.
Here's the clincher: this happened to me yesterday as well. I didn't try to find a suitable answer and I enabled the root user with NetInfo. Then I entered the user 'root' and the root password into my 'Authenticate' window and life was good. I disable the root user and went back to normal life.
But today, I cant do that. Why? Because I have to Authenticate even to enable the root user! My admin longname and shortname both do not work. (Yes, I am sure it is the right password. No, my capslock is not on...)
Any suggestions? I can program perl, so I am not afraid of the command-line if that is what I need to do. (I can still sudo stuff!)

    Powerbook G3   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

My answer was found in Oreilly's 'Mac OSX Tiger for UNIX Geeks'.
Somehow I had removed myself from the admin group.
Here's what I had to do:
sudo dscl . merge /groups/admin users myusername
I tried flushing the lookupd cache, but that didnt work, I had to restart for it to take effect.

It is not possible to create a new iCloud account using a Windows machine. You must create the account using a Mac (10.7.5 or more) or an IOS device (iPhone etc). Once that is done you can sign into and use the account on your Windows machine.

  • Best iTunes strategy for a family with multiple Windows accounts

On our previous Windows 7 PC, I set up separate Windows accounts for each of our family members. Since iTunes can't be run concurrently on more than one Windows account, I also set up another Windows account named "iTunes," the sole purpose of which is to have iTunes running in a way that everyone can access it without having to log into each others' accounts. When you want to use iTunes, you log into the "iTunes" Windows account; when you want to do something else on the computer, you log into your personal Windows account.
Two questions: (1) Is there a better way to do this? and (2) Am I right that iTunes still can't be run concurrently on more than one Windows account?
    Thanks.

This is a user to user support forum. Your fellow users can offer solutions or workarounds based on their experience with the application. If you think it should work differently drop a line to iTunes Feedback.
For reasons unknown Apple haven't chosen to allow iTunes to be suspended in one profile and active in another. My recollection is that this applies even if each profile has a different library, although it is some time since I've committed a personal test.
I'm not sure why my suggestion make less sense that your current approach?. As I understand it currently everybody is either signed into their own account when they can do something other than work with iTunes, or they sign into the special iTunes account where they can't access any of their other stuff. You don't have to disable fast user switching. Follow exactly the same steps, but make sure everyone closes iTunes before turning the computer over to another user. Disabling fast user switching helps to enforce that action.
