Can't authorize computer - error -9813

Sigh.
I can't authorize a mac mini (non intel) running OS X 10.4.11
The error I get is:
"We could not complete your iTunes store request. An unknown error occurred (-9813). There was an error in the iTunes store. Please try again later."
This began yesterday with iTunes 7, and has carried through to 8 (installed today). I've tried the usual (repair permissions, trash prefs files), all to no avail.

I have had the same problem going on for a long time now....extremely frustrated...would call apple, but i don't use the phone...ever..
i have found numerous forum threads on the same exact problems and they all point to root certificates it seems. i have reset keychain, but that didn't work.
at least its preventing me from spending money...
please someone help us.

  • Can't authorize computer - error 42408

Bought my husband an iPod shuffle for Christmas, think it's the newest gen as it's the square one with voiceover button on the top.
It's installed ok on my husbands laptop but when I tried to authorise it which I'm sure I did when he first started using iTunes it says that the computer cannot be authorised due to an error within the iTunes store and the code is Error 42408. Quick search through the forums only gives threads relating to the problem with iPhones. All my husbands music is still in iTunes and the store can be accessed. What is the solution to the problem?
Husbands laptop has Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2 on it in case this is important. Apart from fairly basic things, I find Vista hard to use
Thanks to anyone who can answer this question.

ON a Mac, this error usually means itunes needs to be reinstalled. So for WIndows Vista, you might try the same thing - a repair install from Windows Control Panel > Programs and Features.
If that doesn't work, if it were my PC, next thing I'd try is deleting the SC folder and restarting my PC as explained here:

  • Can't authorize computer in Digital Editions 2.0.

Cant authorize computer in Digital Editions 2.0.  Message hangs at Please wait while your computer is being authorized.  Windows Vista 32  firewire walls disabled.  Tried removing and reinstalling program same issue continued.

Not sure exactly why you got this issue, but one possible solution (solution to lots of problems) .....
There are lots of bugs in ADE2.0.  Try replacing ADE2.0 with the older but more reliable v1.7.2.
(You can have them both installed at once if you like.)
Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.

  • Authorize computer Error? What to do?

My account says I have one computer authorized.  Yet when I try to play protected music, I get the message that I must authorize this computer, and when I press the authorize computer button, I get a "You cannot authorize more than five computers" message

I have a similar issue, If I try to sync I get stuck in a never ending loop of asking to authorize my computer. I have trird to authorize and then sign out reboot and try again, same issue. Also to de-authoerize and reboot, checked my accout to see if there was something hinky there and no. I only started to have this issue after an IOS 7.. update along with the Itunes 11... update. I also tried what was suggested with no luck. It's just a never ending loop of asking for the computer to be authrized, and never syncing up.

  • I can't authorize computer to play iTunes purchases.

I purchased items on my iPod and got a pop down window indicating they cannot be transferred to my iTunes
library because I am not authorized for them on my computer.  when I chose Store> Authorize Computer, was unable
to continue as it was not highlighted.

  • Can't authorize computer or sign in to store

I recently got an iPhone which I first synced without problems with my computer at work (having never used iTunes before). Now I have installed iTunes on my home computer (running 64-bit Windows Vista), but I am unable to authorize this computer, or even sign in to the store--the "Authorize" and "Sign In" buttons are simply grayed out and I can't even click on them.
Also, I plugged in the iPhone via to my home computer and it synced with iTunes but apparently removed a number of apps I had already downloaded to the phone. I think this is because I hadn't authorized the computer.
I've restarted the PC and still no luck--can't sign in or authorize the computer, and I'm not very happy the apps on the phone were removed. Can anyone help?

I purchased a new computer recently and had an external hard drive, I moved all my music from itunes to the f drive so I wouldnt have to use so many CDs. I cant play any of my music it keeps asking me to authorize it and I do but it still wont play any of my video's or music and I am scared to sync my iphone with it because it may erase everything that I have purchased does anyone have any solutions to this? Please help if so!!

  • Can't authorize computer

I had 5 computers authorized then work gave us new computers. I have deauthorized all computers and reauthorized my new main computer. My iTunes account says only one computer is authorized, but when I try to authorize a protected song from the new computer it says I have 5 authorized. How do I get out of this Catch 22?

    Alex:
While this may seem a simplistic question, did you try shutting down and rebooting your Mac?
Did you try running Disk Utility and Repairing Permissions?
You can also download BatCmod which will set file and drive permissions.

  • Can't authorize computer to access my purchases

My computer got a virus, actually several and I had to run the recovery disc, so lost all of the music on my computer. Before I ran the recovery I managed to get my computer to stay on long enough to move all of my iTunes purchases (82 albums) to my iPod mini (it wouldn't have stayed on long enough for me to burn discs). Now for some reason when I try to authorize my computer to access those purchases it's saying that my account does not exist. I even tried the Forgot My Password, but it says that "The Apple ID specified does not exist." Why? I spent so much money on that music and I really don't want to lose it. Is there anything I can do, or am I screwed?
It may help to know that the email address I used was an old school email address and I transferred to another college and no longer have access to that email account. I have the best luck ever.

  • Can't Download Anything : Error (-9813)

I recently got high speed internet at home (finally)... and have attempted to subscribe to various podcasts and download other free content. When I try this I get a message that says: "We could not complete your iTunes Store request. An unknown error ocurred. (-9813)" This also happens when I attempt to log in to view my iTunes account. I have no idea how to get around this. Any help would be splendid...

I saw this error on another forum and people said it was fixed by running Keychain First Aid
    Try this:
Go to the Utilities Folder: Applications - > Utilities
    Open "KeyChain Access"
from the Keychain Access Menu select "Keychain First Aid" and choose "Repair".
Try running that and see if it works. I don't know what keychains have to do with it, but I saw a lot of people fixing this 9813 error by running keychain first aid
    Hope this helps!

  • Can't authorize computer to play already purchased music in thailand

    Help!
I recently came to thailand with a fresh panther install on my pismo notebook. I guess since it's a fresh hard drive, iTunes won't let me play my purchased music without authorization. Here's the catch, when I try to authorize, the iTunes store reports that it's 'busy' and to check my network. I am on an active network and can even log in to my account sort of - it won't quite let me in but knows that my Led Zeppelin pre-order is ready for download to which I click 'not now' and essentially I am nowhere. No apple support email here I guess or I can't find it. Any clues? I am not at 5 authorizations yet.

I think you just need to figure out the tricks to getting the album you want up in iTunes. It is very easy actually.
First, if you turn on View Browser (you can't be in the cover flow view to see the browser) you get three windows at the top of your library: Genre, Artist, Album. When you pick anything from any of those windows, it immediately narrows down the library view to things that meet that choice (e.g. if you pick U2 then the library will only show tracks with Artist = U2.
In addition, those three boxes will narrow down to only show what fits with whatever you type in the search field. Meaning, normally if you have thousands of songs and hundreds of artists, scrolling through the little artist box to find that one artist or the album box to find that one album is kind of tedious. But say you want to listen to The Clash's "London Calling". In the search box you can just type in Clash or London (or both) and the three Browser boxes (and your library view) will quickly narrow down to only tracks where Clash and London appear. Likely the Album window will now only show a few choices. Click the "London Calling" one and your library now only shows that album. Now you can play just that album. Of course it sounds like more when you type it all out, but to open iTunes, type "Clash London" then click on the London Calling album takes all of about three seconds, likely quicker than it is to dig through folders in your hard drive.
Sorry, but I don't have any answers for your Windows association problem with trying to load more than 10 tracks, but I think you may find the above method to be much easier to navigate.

  • Can't Authorize computer running Windows Vista

Anyone running iTunes 7 in Windows Vista RC1? I am trying to play a tv show I just purchased and I get stuck in an endless loop of authorizing this computer. I authorized it prior to upgrade, now when I try to play any purchased video, it asks me to log in to authorize, it hten says I successfully authorized (says 2nd computer of an allowed 5, which is correct), then I go to play, and it starts the loop all over.
    Any ideas?

it might be worth checking in with the iTunes Store to see if there's some kind of snarl-up with your account information. the email form at the bottom of this FAQ would be the best one to use:

If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main Recovery screen.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.9 ("Mavericks"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.
