Can't authorize DRM protected ebook to Adobe ID

Hi,
I get the following error when trying to authorize an DRM protected ebook: "The supplier account you entered is not linked to the item you want to open. Please try again." I'm sorry if it isn't entirely correct, but I live in the Netherlands and this is the best translation I could make.
My brother bought me this ebook as a present, but I can't link it to my Adobe id. If he had to authorize it to buy it for me, is it possible for him to unauthorize it, so that I can authorize it to my Adobe id?
I haven't told him yet that I have this problem, because it was a present and if he can't do anything about it I don't know if I want to let him know you understand?
I would be very grateful if someone could help me with this.

I tried to get some help from Adobe support, after being transferred 3 times, they suggested I try here.

We had ADE on a system whose hard drive was dying and becomming unusable. I replace the old hard drive with a new one and resinstalled everything. I was able to extract the My Digital Editions Folder from the original drive and copied it to the new drive. I then installed the latest ADE. When we attempt to authorize the new ADE install on the new harddrive we see the dreaded "You can only authorize this computer with an Adobe ID that hasn’t previously been used to authorize any other computer or mobile devices. Please try again."
How can we get back running on the new disk?

When I try to download a library book on my Kobo reader, I keep getting this message. First it tells me to change the computer's authorization to be associated with an Adobe ID. When I click on authorize after logging in, the message keeps telling my "you can only authorize this computer with an Adobe ID that hasn't been previously used to authorize any other computer or mobile device. I have no idea what this means. Help!

Sometimes ADE gets its registration/activation confused and in a semi-authorized state.
Uninstalling and reinstalling does not help, and indeed installation can even trigger this state.
Unfortunately, it often then gives misleading error messages about what is wrong.
A common incorrect message informs you that the ID is already in use on another computer and cannot be reused.
Another is "E_AUTH_NOT_READY"
This can often be resolved by completely removing any authorization using ctrl-shift-D to the Library screen on ADE (cmd-shift-D if on Mac).
Restart ADE, and then reauthorize with your (old) Adobe ID.
In extreme cases on the mac, the following extra step has helped some people. Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash. When I first downloaded Adobe Digital Editions to my computer, I did not select to transfer DRM protected items to another device. Now my computer is authorised without an I.D. Although I subsequently created an Adobe ID, I can not authorise my computer to transfer DRM protected files to another device. When I try to do this, I get the following message "Acivation Servor Error" "Code E_AUTH_NOT_READY". How do I solve this problem?

Bluefire Reader can't open DRM protected PDF

I transferred a DRM protected PDF to my iPad and now I want to open it via Bluefire Reader on the iPad. When trying to open the PDF, I get a message: " Add Account: This application is authorised with the following user accounts: (here goes my user account xxx). This item (i.e. PDF) was originally downloaded with a different user account or Adobe ID. To continue, please add that account". I don't understand why. My Digital Editions has the same Adobe ID as the Bluefire reader.
When I installed Adobe Digital Editions for the first time I might have not authorised my PC straightaway but later I did that.
Please help, where is the problem?

If you downloaded the PDF to the PC before authorizing your Adobe ID on the PC, then the PDF will be locked to a sort of anonymous ID that ADE uses when not authorized to a 'proper' ID. In that case you would not be able to read the PDF on the PC any longer after authorizing ADE with your own ID, or read it anywhere else. Unfortunately, in that case I do not think there is any way to return to a previous anonymous ID and recover access to the document.
If the book was downloaded after authorizing your Adobe ID on the PC, it should be OK. I don't know if Bluefire suffers the same as ADE and sometimes gets authorizations confused. Try deregistering Bluefire from your ID and reregistering it.

DRM protected ebooks

I have downloaded calibre but it will not remove DRM from ebooks I purchased for my Sony reader - Any thoughts on purchasing DRM removal? Wondering if it is worth the cost or should I just stick to buying and reading through Kobo? Any suggestions/thoughts appreciated!

Can't authorize drm??

i downloaded and authorized my adobe digital editions today and downloaded four books from waterstones
i transfered these to my sony ebook library software and tried to copy them to my sony reader prs-505 but it kept telling me that the books did not have permission and i have to authorize my DRM
i tried to do so but it wont authorize
i followed the solutions on this forum but nothing worked

Use a different Adobe ID to "authorize" the computer.
Or, remove existing authorization associated with the Adobe ID from one computer / device.

Can't copy text from eBook on Adobe Digital Editions

I was able to copy and paste the text from my eBook, but now it's not working. Any suggestions?

That's really strange and worth testing.
Please provide me the exact version of PS found under About PS option. If possible, attach the Photoshop system info file from Help > System Info.
Also, would suggest to update Yosemite to 10.10.3 and then check.

There are lots of bugs in ADE2.0 (and 2.0.1). Try replacing ADE2.0 with the older but more reliable v1.7.2.
(You can have them both installed at once if you like.)
Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.

It appears (not 100% sure) that if you install ADE2.0 as a new install (not as an upgrade) that your 1.7.2 will continue to run.
Probably best to say no if 2.0.x installation asks if you want to migrate your library.

DRM-protected PDF crashes Safari on iPad

DRM-protected PDF crashes Safari on iPad (iOS 5.1/9B176). After restart the document is blank. When choose Acrobat from "Open it..." list it says "The document is empty". Is there a workaround?
It looks like Safari PDF preview software failes to handle DRM protected PDF (by Adobe LiveCycle ES). I am not sure but this was working before.

Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > Safari then tap to delete history, cookies, and data then try Safari.
* No data is lost due to a reset

I don't remember having heard of a case before where the deregistration did not work.
Just checking if the ctrl-shift-D actually worked; ADE should have come up with a confirmation/message message which you need to confirm.
(If you are on a Mac, cmd-shift-D).
It might be worth trying with the older version of ADE ... you'll still probably need to use ctrl-shift-D (cmd-shift-D) yet again.
That's just clutching at straws though as I can't think of anything else easy to suggest.
