Can't authorize music ...

just replaced the hard drive in my old quicksilver G4 which is running 10.3.9 and itunes 4.2. was unable to rescue everything from my old drive. problem is after restoring the music from my itunes library that i was able to salvage on the new drive, itunes tells me "this computer is not authorized to play "this song". would you like to authorize it. i enter my password and hit authorize". unfortunately it doesn't authorize. it only tells me to update to the latest version of itunes (9.0 which can't run on my OS). this is disturbing as this represents a couple hundred dollars of music. any ideas how i can get this music to play. after, it's the same computer ...

Stu,
Please get off your high horse. We're not all "Yanks" here. As a Canadian, I am bit embarrassed at your attitude, you sound almost... well... American! (Kidding!!)
To solve your problem, first see if it makes a difference if you log into the Canadian iTMS (just browse) before trying to authorize.
If that doesn't work, then you'll probably need to contact the iTMS customer service through the form on this page:
http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/musicstore/authorization/
They'll sort this out for you.
(Edited to add: are you sure you're using the same account to authorize the song as the account used to buy the song?)

You cannot. iTunes purchases remain on the iTunes account they were purchased with.

So just upload them from iTunes.
    You have mulitple AppleIDs?
    Why?

  • Can't play songs due to old Apple ID / Can't authorize music

I have this really ANNOYING problem where, since I went and got a .mac account and have a new Apple ID, I can't access some songs I bought a couple years ago with my former Apple ID. ITunes keeps asking me to authorize the content, brings up a window with my old ID, I enter the password and it seems to work -- but it doesn't. Every time I try to play the song, it brings the window back up... it's an endless loops and I can't access the songs!
What is the answer, Apple? Can you not correlate older and newer Apple IDs? Why can't I authorize the music with the old ID if I remember the password? Because the account no longer exists? If that's the case, my music is literally being held hostage without any known recourse. Please advise

kidsbesides74 I am with you there man, I know I sound like the usual Mac poster, but yes I have been a Mac head forever and have had every iPod/iTunes since the first, but I am STUCK, I have tried all these suggestions, but I can not get the bulk of my iTunes collection, ( 2000 of over 4000) songs to play because of the same problem, It just says that this Apple ID does not exist even though I can see it right there in the >Get Info for each of these songs. I will have to call Apple directly in the morning, I just hope they don't do that thing where they say that I must be doing something wrong. Is there a limit of two Apple ID's , I now have two Apple ID's here at the house and a third at the office could that be the problem ? if so, how do I get the songs I paid for folded into my other account?

  • Can't authorize music because my account is Canadian!!!

Okay you Yanks! I'm sending an iceberg of mass destruction across your border unless you change your stupid "Authorization" policy.
I bought, of all things, Paul Simon's "An American Tune" off your stupid lousy Itunes music store and have played it happily ever since. Now I've decided to copy my stupid lousy music to another stupid lousy Macintosh computer which sits right next to the stupid lousy Mac on my desktop. When I tried to play that song again, it refused, saying it had to be "authorized". Well, I tried to authorize it and I got this message: "Your account is ONLY valid for the Canadian Itunes store" and that was that.
Well it's okay if I can't play your stupid lousy American songs, but will you please give me back the ten million Canadian songs I've bought from your stupid lousy store!!

  • Can't Authorize music on new computer

Replaced a G4 with a MacBok Pro and can't seem to authorize some of my music.  Itunes asks for authorization under an older user name, but when I enter PW it doesn't like it.  When I tell it to send the PW to my email address of record I never get it.  Have even searched old email accounts just in case.  When I go the personal information route, it asks for my birthday.  When I put it my birthday it says that's not right!!  I KNOW when my birthday is.  I'm all out of options.  isn't there some live person I can talk to and prove who I am.  what do I do now??
    Itunes 11.1.3

Found out how from an old discussion.  Here it is:
This can be resolved through a phone call to Apple, provided you can pass the verification process:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
You'll need to speak to someone in Account Security.

  • Can't authorize music "There is not enough memory available"

For some reason, my computer got deauthorized last week. When I try to reauthorize the computer, iTunes claims to successfully authorize the computer (it even increments the number of authorized computers). However, it then says:
"We could not complete your iTunes Store request. There is not enough memory available.
There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later."
It's been doing this for about a week now. I try to reauthorize once or twice a day, and it just doesn't work. Any ideas?

This is most likely due to a problem with your Ethernet port, which is where authorization for the iTunes Store is based for Macs. To test this, do the following:
    1) Go to the Apple Menu and select "About this Mac". On the screen that opens click the "More Info" button.
    2) The System Profiler will open. On the left column under "Contents" click on "Network".
    3) To the right, under "Active Services" click "Built-in Ethernet".
    4) In the area below, scroll all the way to the bottom, looking below all the "Proxies".
    5) If a section called "Ethernet" does not appear below "Proxies" or there is nothing underneath "Ethernet" or there is nothing next to where it says "MAC Address:" this means the Ethernet port is not functioning. It will need to be repaired, requiring a logic board replacement. Contact Apple.
Note that this issue may be intermittent. If so, the Ethernet problem will likely only show up when you are having a problem with inability to play purchased music.

  • HT1420 How do I authorize music I purchased a few years ago from an account that no longer exists?  The music shows up in my library, but it won't play.  I can no longer access that email account because it was disabled...anyone can help?

I purchased a bunch of music years ago with an old email account and password and then switched (before I understood about the apple account thing) and now the music will show up on my new computer but I can't authorize it to play because the old account is disabled and I can't remember my password!!!!!!
    HELP!!!
Anyone else find a solution to this?
Am I the only idiot who has done this?
    Thanks in advance

Hey there~ I had a similar experience, when the email I used to set up the account was hacked and subsequently shut down by Hotmail. If you contacted Support to change the name, but not the email address, you will need to do so again.
Also worth noting~ if, at any time, you synced your device to your work computer, you'll need to contact Support to deauthorize it and enable your current one.
    Good luck!

  • I have imported my music from my iPhone to my Mac book pro. The problem is that now I can't listen to it. It's stating that my computer is not authorized. How can I authorize??

    Hi

Please don't make multiple posts, your question has been answered in your other thread.
I have imported my music from my iPhone to my Mac book pro. The problem is that now I can't listen to it. It's stating that my computer is not authorized. How can I authorize??

  • Using Windows 8 and can't authorize my computer to upload apps and play music on my new laptop.  What do I need to do to fix problem.

Using Windows 8 and can't authorize my computer to upload apps and play music on my new laptop.  There is no "authorize computer" in a drop down menu as suggested in iTune store or its support page. What do I need to do to fix problem?

MY personal thinks to Radez29. Yes, it is now authorized. BUT, I have an obvious question and an obvious statement.
Question......why, in my many emails to/from Apple support, was this simple solution not given to me?
Statement.......Apple should consider "terminating" the present employees and hiring Radez29. He obviously knows a LOT more than the Apple support team.
AGAIN, my sincere thanks to Radez29 for this solution.

  • New mac, can't authorize my old purchased music

I bought a new mac after my last one crashed, I am logged into itunes but it won't let me authorize my computer to play my purchased music.  I am signed in to my account and have bought more music, but can't authorize songs I purchased on my last computer. When I enter my information the same screen pops up again and says to enter my information.  My account name and password are correct because I can access my account info and the itunes store.

I have exactly the same problem, but with an added issue: This MacPro is the SAME one I used to have all my authorized music on, but after Apple repaired the heatsinks on my motherboard, iTunes thinks it's a new computer and won't authorize my old music.
Additionally, when the window asking me to authorize the old music pops up, it shows my old e-mail address, which is no longer in service. So now I'm wondering if I am supposed to log in with this old address. When I try to do that (I still know the password), it says I entered something wrong... but I can't have it send me my "forgotten" password for the old e-mail address, because it says it's going to send it to my old address!
I have no problem logging in with my new address, but when I try to "Authorize This Computer" under the Store menu, iTunes tells me this computer is already authorized. So why can't I access all that old music? We're talking almost 1,000 songs that I now can't play!
Thanks for any and all help with this!

  • Can't authorize new computer to play my music or download them onto my ipod

    Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forum. I seem to be having trouble authorizing my new computer to play my songs, and to also download them onto my ipod. It will download some but not all. The problem that I am having is: when I try to play a song, the authorization pops up and asks me to authorize using my old email address, and password. Well since I can't remember my old password and I no longer use my old email address, I can't authorize my new computer to play songs. So someone Please come to my rescue. I have tried everything.

  • Can I import music from my ipod onto a new computer without old comp.?

I have lost all my music and the itunes application from my computer and it was not backed up. The music is on my ipod classic but I'm worried I will not be able to add more onto it without the original itunes folder containing my music files. Won't it wipe over the stored tunes on the ipod if I sync the new itunes program containing only the new music I want to add?.

    Hey there,
There are several ways you can pull the music off your iPod and onto iTunes.
There is a very direct method, which I personally prefer, but there are also numerous third party applications, which will help you accomplish the task as well. The link below provides step-by-step instructions for the direct method as well as a few third party applications if you choose to go that route instead.
It would also be a good idea to re-authorize your computer. Hope this helps.

  • HT3819 Can I authorize mulitple apple ids on the same device so that what is purchased on either account will be loaded in both devices without having to use the same ID?

Can I authorize mulitple apple ids on the same device so that what is purchased on either account will be loaded in both devices without having to use the same ID?
My wife has a laptop and an iphone 4s, I have a laptop and and iphone 4s, our two sons have our old iphone 3s, we have an old laptop for our sons to use.  Our old iphones for our sons are deactivated as phones - so they are used as i-touches for songs, pictures and aps.  I want to use icloud (which I'm new to) to hopefully have all four iphones and all three computers stay synced with at least music - if not aps and pictures.  My wife has an apple ID and I have one.  I'd like to authorize all three laptops for both apple IDs so that we will still have our own accounts, but everything either of us buys will be automatically loaded into all three laptops and all four iphones.  Can this be done?
    Thanks,
    sstultzcostello

Each person in your home can have their own Apple ID provided it is tied the their own separate email address.
iTunes permits up to five authorized computers connected to a single Apple ID: iTunes Store- About authorization and deauthorization.
For this all to work well, however, each user in your household should have a separate user account on the computer they commonly use.

  • How can I authorize my new Mac Mini to use downloads in my iTunes account?

  • You can not authorize more than 5 computers

I have music on my MacBook Pro, in iTunes, that I want to use, but it comes from an old account, that I don't use anymore, and some computers/iPods that are really not working. When I want to ear those musics/songs, I receive this message, when trying to enter the account, old, not the actual one: "you can not authorize more than 5 computers"
    What can I do?

    I quote:
You can deauthorize all computers connected to your Apple ID if you've reached the maximum five authorizations:
Click iTunes Store on the left side of iTunes.
If you're not signed in to the store, click the Account button, then enter your account name and password.
Click the Account button again (your Apple ID appears on the button), enter your password, and then click View Account.
In the Account Information window, click Deauthorize All.
Note: You may only use this feature once per year. The Deauthorize All button will not appear if you have fewer than two authorized computers. If you need assistance on using this feature, please contact iTunes Store support via email (http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/).
(end quote): once done you can then re-authorise computers as needed.
