Can't auto blend two 8-bit RGB Images?

So I'm trying to do a face blend and I've repeated the process three times in order to make sure I'm not making any mistakes, but I still can't auto blend the two layers. Any time I go Edit, auto-blend layers it's greyed out which is quite frustrating. I've taken a couple of screenshots to illustrate my problem. I am using CS6 on a new MacBook Pro. I've looked all over the internet including this site but not a single post I have found has helped me. Can anyone help me with this?

Three problems
One of the layers is a Smart object.  You can't use auto blend layers on a Smart Object.
You have an active selection.  You can't use auto blend layers with an active selection.
Auto blend layers is not a good choice for compositing the new face, and will give poor results.  Better to add a layer mask to the new face and feather the edges.

If you mean by Pixel count the number of pixels, this will not change. The image will have the same size thus the same number of pixels.

  • Can I  Auto Blend layers in Photoshop Elements?

I have seen face-swapping tutorials online using the "auto-blend layers" tool In Photoshop CS6. Is there a way to do the same thing in elements?
    Thanks for the help,
    Erik

    Hi Broad Arrow builders,
    99jon is right.
However, that is assuming you already know the dimensions (99jon rightly describes setting the dimensions in advance) of the logo in advance, and you're going to use the logo you need for one specific use only. A logo you make in Photoshop Elements may not always remain clear and legible when you scale it up or down. I say that because logos will, generally, find their way into lots of places - letterheads, banners, T-shirt emblems, and other places. You might need different sizes for different needs.
You might want to use a vector graphics tool like Illustrator for logo design.
Phew! Okay - temporary fix - PSE 11 will work great! Permanent fix - for multiple designs and dimensions - you might need a different tool.
    Cheers,
    David

  • Can't Save a Big TIFF 16 bit RGB Image to JPEG

    Hi all,
I'm using Photoshop CS5 Extended on Windows 7 64 bit (Home Premium).
I've stitched a panorama in Photoshop using merge from 19 RAW files (Canon 5D mkII) in 16 bit. All was fine, I saved the merged image as TIFF 16 and worked on it. Resolution of the panoramic image is around 33000x4900. File flattened and no active selections left.
Once I was happy I ran Image Processor on it with an action to watermark and add EXIF copyright data. This failed saying that it could not save to JPEG (it performed the action correctly, just stopped at saving it). This normally works fine with other TIFF 16 RGB images I have done.
I tried to save it manually, but at that point I noticed that the "save for web" option was grayed out and that the "Save As" dialog did not display JPEG in the options.
    What I did:
1.) tried to open it with ACR and save it as JPEG. This has worked fine
2.) tried to resize it to 20000x3600 (more or less) and it worked fine (meaning the option to save it as JPEG where back there)
3.) tried to convert it full-size to 8 bit and that did not work
I'm not too bothered because I have the ACR workaround, but it is annoying and in the past I've done bigger panoramas with CS4 and I've never encountered this problem before now.
    Any ideas?
The image is almost 1 GB so I'm not going to post it...
    Thanks for your help!

My inital thoguht was: there must be some size limit on the JPEG format that this person is hitting.
So a quick Google search later (quicker than posting a thread!) and I found this: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/325/325073.html Although it's focussed on CS2/3 it seems that the limit of 30,000 pixels vertical or horizontal has remained in place for CS5.

  • How can I blend two video clips where they join side by side in one movie?

    Hello Marvelous Movie Making Minds,
I am working with Adobe Premiere 6 on a Windows 7 machine.
How can I blend two video clips where they join side by side in one movie?
I know how to place two or more video clips together in the same movie, but how can I give them a bit of a blend just where they join?
I have a PDF instruction manual and the built-in web browser instructions.  In the instruction manual in "Chapter 7: Superimposing and Compositing" it talks about the transparency of any video clip, and I understand that... but I don't want to make one or the other video clip transparent anyplace except where the two video clips join together with perhaps a bit of overlap.
I'd like to make a little blur just where the two videos join in the middle... is this possible?
    Thanks,
    digi

    Aha that kind of blending.
Have not used 6.5 in a loooooooong time.
So this is from memory, hope i get this right.
Set the two clip on top of each other
Make a matte in Photoshop and superimpose this over the two clips.
Go to the Transparancy Settings and set the top clip in video 2 to Alpha key.
    Screendump for matte:
The right side is made black just for the forum but should be transparant.

  • Since installing the latest update of Photoshop CC two days ago, Auto Blend for focus stacking is selecting all pixels from the bottom layer instead of selecting the ones in best focus from each layer. Has anyone else seen this problem?

I installed the latest update of Photoshop CC two days ago on my Macbook Pro, and now when I try to do focus stacking by opening multiple photos and doing Auto Align and Auto Blend, the blend selects the entire bottom layer instead of selecting the in-focus areas from each layer. I even tried again on a series of images where this worked a week ago and the problem occurs. I have Photoshop on a Windows 8 machine and did not apply this latest update and it works fine. Has anyone else encountered this?

And since installing this same update, my Photoshop is crashing just after starting.
Ashutosh.Nigam suggested me in this forum to change the permissions to SLStore & SLCache Folder, but it did not work.
Ali from french Adobe support told me to delete my Settings files, but it was not enough.
A girl with no name from the same team told me to update my video card driver, but you know I run the latest Mac OS X version and everything is updated, mademoiselle.
Stephane sent me a link to a huge page of things to do :
    -  Troubleshoot account-specific fonts, but there wasn't any corrupted font
    - Delete account-specific Adobe cache files but... guess what...
    - Troubleshoot account-specific login items but... yes, that's it, I can see you understand me
    - Reset the access settings on the user account's Library folder... oh god, that was fun, I used the Terminal and sudo commands
I did all of these things because when I tried to open PhCC in an other admin session, it worked, so that was an incompatibility between my session and PhCC. But, but, but, when I tried again to lauch the app in the second session, it worked fine but refused to quit. Ha ha ha.
So you can try to delete your Settings files. I wish it'll work for you. If not you can try the long list above... or hope a better answer from the support.
I didn't change anything but Photoshop on my session and they ensure that the bug is due to my session and not to their update. Strange affair.
    Good luck,
    JLuc

  • In Photoshop Elements 11 attempting to blend two photos ( layering one on another) when I click on a brush, I get a smart brush which doesn't do what the instruction say it should do. Instead I can get the eraser to do what I need to do. Why the confusion

In Photoshop Elements 11 attempting to blend two photos (layering one on another) I click on brush and get a smart brush which doesn't do what the instructions say it will do. I can get the eraser to do what I want. Why the confusion???

I click on brush and get a smart brush which doesn't do what the instructions say it will do.
The Brush tool (Keyboard B) has several different brushes in the same slot. Right click on the brush icon and you will see them, or press B sequentially.
The Smart Brush tool (Keyboard F) has two items in the slot.
Since you did not provide reference to "the instructions", it is difficult to remedy the "confusion." that exists.
I suspect that the recipe calls for a mask, and painting with a black brush to mask out certain areas.
It would help if you post the instructions and what your goal is with more specificity.

  • Can I save an image as a 16-bit RGB JPG file?

Is it possible to save an image as a 16-bit RGB file? I know I can work in RGB mode in 16-bits per channel and "save as" a JPG, but when re-opening the file it appears to have been converted to 8-bit.  My research seems to show a consistent theme that JPG is by definition an 8-bit format.  Nonetheless, I have a supplier who wants their images delivered in 16-bit or 32-bit RGB in JPG format.  Is this possible. If not, what might they mean by this?

Not possible. Jpg does not support anything higher than 8 bit. I believe png supports 16 bits per channel, other than that you could send a tiff file, but be prepared for any in compatibilities, you may need to change some settings and try again.

This issue comes up not infrequently and requires a bit of work so that it doesn't look fake. Your picture is made of two parts: Luminosity and color. The luminosity is by far the most important.. Try this:
Open the picture file after the faces have been swapped
Duplicate the background layer. Convert this background copy layer to black/white (e.g. via the Enhance menu)
On the background copy layer select the face that needs correction with one of the selection tools
Place the selected face on its own layer (CTRL+J)
The next step is to match the face layer with the b/w layer below. To do that, group a Brightness/contrast adjustment layer to the face layer, and play with the brightness and contrast sliders
Now, keep the face layer, and you can delete the desaturated (Background copy) layer
Open a blank layer at the top of the stack, and change the blending mode to color. Sample the skin color of the person whose skin color you are trying to match, then paint over the face which is on the layer from step #4
You may have to fine-tune by sampling color from other areas, or opening another brightness/contrast adjustment layer to fine-tune the luminosity

  • Photoshop CS6 "Auto-blend Layers" leaves non-editable artifacts.

In Photoshop CS6, I created two TIFF files each having a different focus on the same subject. The intent is to create a single file using focus stacking with all subject elements in focus. The methods used to import the files as layers and align the layers do not create any artifacts.
The "Auto-blend Layer" function, however, creates permanent artifacts on the layers when creating the masks. The function creates masks for each layer based on its own logic for determining what is best focus. The analysis is fairly good where high contrast exists however it is not 100 percent accurate and is fairly inaccurate in low to medium contrast images. In trying to edit the masks and even when you disable or delete the masks artifacts are left along the margins of the masks on the layer itself. This is a bug. No matter what occurs with the mask the underlying layer should be inviolate - at no time should the underlying layer be affected by a mask until the mask is applied. When the masks are disabled or deleted the remaining layer should not display any evidence of the borders of the mask. (Photoshop 13.0.0 64x Extended; color space= ProPhoto RGB; 32bit TIFF files; 16bit PSD)

  • Eraser + Auto-Blend layers = problem

    Hello,
I've been using "Auto-Blend layers" to edit faces in Photoshop. For example: putting Brad Pitt's face on Tom Cruise's face or something like that... However, I seem to have the exact same problem each time.
    I use the following method:
Two layers (layer 1 = background = original person) + face of new person (layer 2 = cut out from different .psd with pen tool).
Align faces with eachother (try to match eyes/lips/nose)
Erase parts to make it fit better
    Select pixels layer 2
    Select "Inverse" layer 2
    Select Modify -> Expand -> 6px layer 2
    Select "Inverse" layer 2
Delete selected part on the layer 1 with background (layer 1 original face gets deleted)
    Select both layers
    Auto-Blend Layers
    Result done
This entire method works fine, except for the eraser part. (Erase parts to make it fit better) When I use my eraser on the new face to erase some parts that overlap the original face or something, it always turns out bad after using Auto-Blend layers. You can see parts of the transparent background -> it doesn't fit properly. This only happens when I use the eraser. When I use the entire method without fixing some parts with the eraser, it works fine but this way the face doesn't fit 100% since certain details don't match.
Anyway, I wonder why the eraser messes up Auto-Blend layers. I even tried moving the new face (I used eraser on) to a new .psd with the same original person and Auto-Blend layers keeps having parts of the transparent background when the faces get auto-blended. How can I fix this?

You probably would have to go into the mechanics of what the auto blend layer tool is doing.  It is meant to stitch two images together  such as a panarama.  Your case is a little different and erasing may disturb the way the tool combines the underlying layers.

  • CS6 Feature request - Auto Blend CMYK

I need to auto blend CMYK imagery. Unless someone knows how to do this or it's been fixed in Cs5, I'll go ahead and make the request official.
    Feel free to comment

Thanks for the quick and thoughtful reply Chris. I’m hoping that PS architects like you will see this as an opportunity, no make that a challenge to rise to. Please excuse the long reply.
While your premise that CMYK conversion is final step in an image editing process may be true for three channels of image data in a conventional prepress workflow, for the type of four band multi-spectral (RGB+IR) imagery that the geospatial community relies on more and more, this conversion is the first step when working in Photoshop.
We work this way because CMYK is the only color space PS recognizes that maintains data integrity between the RGB and IR channels. It’s not that geospatial imaging professionals like to work like this, heck the imagery looks just awful (before channel reassignment) and we are still limited when trying to do selective color adjustments. But for 90% of editing working in CMYK does the job. Until you need to ‘blend’ large image (multiple GB) composites together (say blend county A imagery into county B imagery)
Back to the auto align part. Using a wonderful plug-in toolset like Geographic Imager we can “auto-align” previously rectified, georeferenced images into geometrically accurate composite mosaics.  These images originate from many different and competing applications, and my shop uses a few different ways to do it, depending on stuff I have nothing to do with. But, here’s the interesting thing for Adobe – as far as ‘auto’ defining where a seam is created and then ‘auto’ blending that image data together, however Photoshop does this – PS simply kicks ***. With RGB data, our techniques and Photoshop can actually produce technically accurate orthophotography with a high standard of ‘aesthetic’ quality. IOW, it doesn’t look like crap (been to Google Earth lately?).
All this workflow wonderfulness goes away with multi-spectral, and we keep trying to wrestle it back into a workable solution. Adobe would be wise to take notice of our needs. Geospatial imagery is becoming more and more ubiquitous (just watch your local weather on TV) and my job along with my colleagues is to create value for our customers and differentiate ourselves from our competitors on things other than price. Things like image quality. I still believe Photoshop provides me the best chance to do that, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon…

  • Photoshop freezes when using Auto-Blend Layers - Stack Images

I used to have CS5 on my computer, after which I used the CS6 trial, and I never had any problems when stacking images using Auto-Blend Layers -> Stack Images. However, I recently purchased a subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud and after uninstalling the old PS versions and installing Cloud, Photoshop freezes every time I try to stack images.

  • How can I set up two i tunes accounts on the same i mac for different profiles

I have set up two profiles on my new i mac. I now want to access two different i tunes accounts but when downloading the second account I get a message saying the computer is already set up with an apple id and if you download you can not auto download !! for 90 days ??? I don't understand this

Jus don't turn on Autodownload (iTunes prefs > Store).
Autodownload simply tells iTunes to automaticall download items if you purchase them elsewhere (such as a different computer or iPhone/iPad).
You can still download them when your purchase them on the computer or go to iTunes store in iTunes, select Purchased on the right side under Quick Links.

  • DVD can't read or use 64 bit Win 7 install

I just upgraded to a late 2012 Mac Mini and wanted to install Boot Camp.  With this model and OS version, I only have Boot Camp 5 which requires 64 bit WIndows.  This model should support that.  But the Mac doesn't seem to recognize the 64-bit DVD when I put it in, and trying to boot with it gives a message to the effect of "operating system not found" or "installer disk not found" or some indication that the DVD is not bootable.
Is there something I'm doing wrong?  I actually have two copies of WIndows 7 on DVD, and in both copies, the 32 bit DVD can be read but the 64 bit can not.  And since Boot Camp 5 doesn't even support 32-bit installations, I can't even use that as a fallback position.  Any ideas?

Update:  Found a workaround to this.  Basically when I was actually in Mountain Lion and when trying to directly boot from DVD, the disk wasn't being recognized as a valid bootable volume.
Then I tried rebooting and holding down the Option key for a list of bootable devices.  One of them was a DVD called "Windows" and using the boot menu to launch the install worked.  For some reason I was unable to directly recognize this as a valid, bootable device...
