Can't automatically find airport

Hi, I've just begun using a Mac and have developed a problem. For several weeks, I would turn on the computer and had access to the internet over my airport and cable modem. Suddenly, my computer can't access the airport. My workaround is to use the airport setup assistant, adjust existing and then login. Once that happens, I quit the application without changing anything, and then have access to the airport and the internet. Any help or ideas to fix this? Thanks.

I'd try this first...
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304482
If that doesn't work, then I'd try trashing...
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
/Library/Preferences/com.apple.networkConfig.plist
Then reboot.

  • Lumia 900 can´t automatically find a network and s...

I work at sea and there´s often weak signal and roaming operators are changing as we move. Despite that I have automatic search on I still often need to pick up the network manually. Many times we´ve been close to the shore and the signal has been strong by then so the problem doesn´t appear only when the coverage is poor. All the other phones onboard can find the network without any problems. Rebooting my phone doesn´t help but I have to choose the network from the menu. Does anyone have same kind of problems?
Once after charging the phone whole night it switched off in the morning. The phone woke up only after I put it to the charger again. The display showed full battery, so it had charged during the night. This has happened only once so I don´t know if there´s something to be worried about or not.
Then some other comments, although many of those has been discussed already earlier:
    - calendar, monthly view is way too small. Syncing with computer shouldn´t require logging in and internet connection. It should be possible to manage calendar tasks when the computer is offline and then sync with the phone by Bluetooth, USB-cable etc.
    - display, the brightness isn´t enough on sunny days.
    - there should be call time, SMS/MMS and data counters
    - Isn´t it possible to save SMS drafts?
    - Isn´t it possible to switch off the alphabetic titles on application menu? I mean it´s enough that all the apps are on alphabetic order but I don´t need the letter grouping, it´s just taking too much space. (e.g. N: Nokia Drive, W: Weatherproof etc.)
    - Zune is not user friendly. The old Nokia Suite worked better, especially it was easy to find how to make and restore back ups. Now I have to back up contacts separately, is that correct?

    Hi beeb72,
Thank you for your post and welcome to the forums!
To synchronise your custom folders, open the mail inbox on your phone, scroll the bottom menu open and select folders. This should give a list of all available folders (if you cannot see all of them just click show all folders), then just select the folder and press synchronise this folder.
If you cannot see the same folder structure than on your laptop, make sure that you have created your folders on the email server side.
    Hope this helps!

  • OS pre-instaled CM12 Client, but it can not automatically find site after joining Domain

    Background:
we update sccm 2007 to sccm 2012 r2
For New PC, the OS pre-installed with our image by PC Vendor. The image has sccm 2012 client. So when users get the new pc, we only need to join the domain.
After joining the domain, 2012 client will never automatic locate the site code base on AD.
    I do some testing.
Install client in the domain pc with parameter SMSSITECODE=AUTO, the site code can be located
Install client in the workgroup pc firstly, the join the domain. Client will never automatic locate the site code base on AD
But If I  click Find Site in the Advanced tab of the Configuration Manager Properties in
the Control Panel. The site code can be located.

I'm going to guess you're running 2007 and 2012 side by side, in which case you need to look at your boundary groups.  In 2007 you simply had boundaries, in 2012 if you don't make boundary groups and assign boundaries and site site assignment to said
    group nothing will happen.
If you have upgraded your infrastructure completely to 2012 but haven't upgraded all of your clients yet ... what you should be seeing is the opposite:  2007 clients wont check into 2012 unless you enable automatic client upgrade.  Then there's
if you have overlapping site codes between the two systems.
    Better detail See:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682060.aspx
    Assignment scenario
    Assignment outcome
You have used automatic site assignment and your System Center 2012 Configuration Manager boundaries overlap with Configuration Manager 2007 boundaries.
The client automatically tries to find a System Center 2012 Configuration Manager site.
The client first checks Active Directory Domain Services and if it finds a System Center 2012 Configuration Manager site published, site assignment succeeds. If this is not successful
(for example, the System Center 2012 Configuration Manager sites is not published or the computer is a workgroup client), the client then checks for site information from its assigned management point.
    Note
You can assign a management point to the client during client installation by using the Client.msi property SMSMP=<server_name>.
If both these methods fail, site assignment fails and you must manually assign the client.
You have assigned the System Center 2012 Configuration Manager client by using a specific site code rather than automatic site assignment, and mistakenly specified a site code for a Configuration
    Manager 2007 site.
Site assignment fails and you must manually reassign the client to a System Center 2012 Configuration Manage

  • Can't Physically find Airport Card

    Hello-
I have tried to check the installation of my airport card to make sure there is a snug connection to the antenna wire. When I open the iMac, I do not see the airport card where it should be!
I have downloaded the pdf for installing or repairing the airport card in my G5 20" 2 GHZ, and of course I can see in the photo where it should be.
I do have airport reception, although the signal strength is low, and I've tried all the software and modem fixes I know. The DSL connection has been confirmed ok and up to speed.
I feel stupid because I have an airport card, but can't find it inside my mac.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

If you have an the Ambient Light Sensor iMac G5, it does not have an AirPort Extreme card. Those iMac G5s have built in wireless.

  • Can't Configure/Find Airport Express

On Wednesday night, my Airport Express was working just fine as a client on my Airport Snow network. I just use it for Airtunes. My network is closed. Last night, iTunes announced it couldn't find my Express. Attempting just to do a soft reboot of it, I apparently did a hard one, because it suddenly showed up as Apple Network 6bd5d3. So, I went to the Airport Setup Assistant and started trying to configure it. First did 'Set up a new'. It finds the Apple Network, I say continue, and it connects to Apple Network, then after a few moments says it can't find my base station. When I try 'Set up an existing' it doesn't show the Apple Network at all. Nor does Airport Admin Utility. At this point, I'm baffled. Thinking it might work like my base stations, I tried connecting it directly to the computer with an ethernet cable, but that seemed to work even worse. I just don't understand why it would show up as a network under my Airport menu, and allow me to connect to it (although of course since it's not connected to the internet, I can't be online connected to it), and then have it not show up for Airport Admin Utility. Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Hello jvreagan. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
To set up the AirPort Express Base Station (AX), temporarily connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, using the AirPort Admin Utility (located in the \Applications\Utilities folder), to change settings.

  • Lynksys can no longer find Airport Express

I have an Airport express that I use to stream itunes from my Dell via a linksys router to my home music system. It has worked flawlesly for over a year. I unpluged it while the room it is in was painted. Now after replugging it in, the Airport admin utility / base station chooser can no longer see the airport.
I have tried to reset it loads of times, and rerun the setup utility, but still cannot get the airport to come up in the Airport admin utility.
    Thanks for any help.

I'm back in bussiness! Thanks;) This was really helpful. Using an ethernet connection got my pc to see the AE almost immediatly.
I however used the settings that origionaly worked for me. When I ditched the ethernet cable and went back to the wirless router all of the AE settings stayed locked in.

  • Can Numbers Automaticly Find Names?

    Hi,
I am creating a time sheet for our office. In the weekly summary page, I would like it to show the name of each project name I have listed on my daily sheets, and also the time I spent on them total for the week.
Is there a way to do this?
    Thank you,
    Caleb

    Hi Caleb
After ten years of designing and running time sheet systems I would advise you to look at a database system which will allow you to create totals and sub-totals.
You don't say if you have a need for recording individual activities or just the "project number/title umbrella", if you do then you must use a database.
Numbers is a great and versatile app but you would need to be very disciplined when "picking up" the daily totals and "transfering" to a weekly summary. It would be easy to miss a job on the summary and this would need to be manually checked. It would not search the "A" column row headers and transfer in the way you require.
However having said that, a weekly sheet which has jobs in the "A" header col and days in the header "row 1" could be used with the week totals summarised in the last column. But if you have an existing system using daily time sheets then the change would probably not be worth it.

  • Why can't I find my external hard drive on Airport Extreme?

I have recently moved into a different home and set up the internet through Airport Extreme that works fine.  However, I can not find the external hard drive plugged in to the Airport USB which used to show up in Macintosh HD under Devices.
I have unplugged and restarted the Airport, hard drive, and IMac numerous times.  I have reset the Airport back to original settings and created a new network. Not sure what to do next.

The drive was hooked in the exact same way 2 days ago at my old address and worked perfectly.
"The drive must be formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) to work at the USB port of the AirPort Extreme, so that would be the first thing to check."
    How do I do this?
"Next, the power at the USB port is borderline as far as its ability to supply adequate power to a hard drive....even if the hard drive has its own power supply.....so a number of users find that they need to use a powered USB hub."
I will look in to finding a powered USB hub but I don't understand why it would work 2 days ago and not today...
"You will need to open the Finder and click on the Go menu, then click Network to see the drive. Double click it to mount is on the desktop."
Correct, I used to find Airport there under Shared where I could click on Airport to access the hard drive.  I don't see Airport at all.
"Finally, if you are planning to use the drive for Time Machine backups, that type of setup is not officially supported by Apple, so results will be unpredictable if you try this."
My hard drive is exclusively music files that I share between Imac and Macbook.

  • MBP can't find airport extreme but internet works

I have a MBP with Lion.  I just purchased an airport extreme and connected an external harddrive with time machine linked to it.  Perodically my MBP, loses the Airport Extreme base station and cant find the Airport Extreme.  It cant find it in Airport Utility even after rescanning.  When this occures, time machine wont work because it cant find the drive/server.  I can manually locate the airport extreme by using the IP address though and I have a working internet connection.  But it's getting annoying because it seems to be at random that the base station just disapears.

I bought an Airport Extreme yesterday and hooked it up today. Everything went great, but eventually all my wireless devices lost their connections. I've read several other forums where this has been observed as far back as 2009. Most attribute it to a firmware update, but that certainly isn't my case. My wireless devices include a Samsung TV, a Sony 'Google TV' internet box, and two Macs just to name a few of what I connected today. And they eventually lost their connection. Wired connections don't seem to be affected.
It appears that Airport Extreme's wireless feature is going into a sleep mode that is hard for it to wake up from, or it's overheating (it gets very hot). And this has nothing to do with signal strength, range, or interference. It could be a combination of settings as a 2010 post stated that Apple told him to do a hard reset and ensure "Allow Setup over WAN..." and "Allow SNMP" are both unchecked.  Neither are checked on mine, so I guessing that might have been a lucky workaround back then. It's a pain to restart AE and re-enter the password on any device just because AE might have been idle for a period. After more than 2 years of this behavior, I'm surprised it continues to this day with no fix or clear explanation. Maybe there's a solution out there somewhere.....

  • Why can't my Lion airport utility find any of my routers?

I recently installed Lion on my 2008 MBP. Now the new airport utility cannot find any of my routers. However, my G5 leopard imac can still see my airport express and airport extreme routers. All I see on my MBP is a globe with an orange circle and the word 'Internet' below it. I also see an endlessly spinning wheel at the bottom. Any ideas? I'm connected to the network wirelessly and I have an internet connection. So, I don't understand why airport utility cannot see any of the routers.
    Thanks,
    Henry

Thanks, that did the trick. I didn't realize they had a different airport version for the older airport hardware....

  • Can't find AirPort 4.2 for Mac OS X 10.4.x software for Intel Mac Book

I have an Intel Mac Book and recently picked up a graphite AirPort on eBay without software. I installed the Installer updaters and Mac OSX 1.4.9 Combo update. I can not install AirPort software 2.0 - the error says I can not install on this machine. I went on the Apple site to find AirPort 4.2 for Mac OS X 10.4.x and can not locate the download. Any ideas?

    Hi Duane!
Thank you for welcoming me and yur information. I now see that I have the software, but I'm still having issues. I can't get the airport to see the internet. It knows there is an internet connection in the Network Assistant, but fails on the diagnostic. Further, after a restart, the Admin Utility does not list the IP address I the window.
I wondered if this was because of the software version update becausse it said it fixes an issue with Comcast (my ISP).
I wanted to use the Admin Utility to configure the Airport from scratch, but how can I if the base station is not in the list?

  • ITunes can't find Airport Express remote speakers after PC standby

I use Airport Express 802.11n to drive my remote speakers over WiFi from iTunes. It works well, except for after my PC Laptop has been in standby (such as folding the screen). When it wakes up and regains network connectivity, iTunes can no longer find the Airport Express remote speakers. I can ping the Airport and it shows up in Airport Utility, so I have WiFi connection. It does not help to restart iTunes, I need to reboot Windows to allow iTunes to see the remote speakers again.
Does anyone have a tip of how I can get iTunes to "refresh" the Airport Express connection (zeroconf/Bonjour issue?) after standby wakeup?

    Holy moly. Now it works.
I restarted the Airport Express from the Airport Utility application, repaired persmissions and rebooted the computer as well.
Not much of a "fix" but sometimes you gotta do the most obvious I guess. (And yes I feel stupid)
    Cheers

  • Can't find airport to turn it on, lost wifi and all addresses after a software upgrade

i can't find airport to turn it on, lost wifi and all ip addresses after a software upgrade on my iMac

    1. Does the WiFi icon in preferences have a yellow triangle with an exclamation point?
    2. Do you have physical access to the Airport router?
    3. WiFi through local cable company - does that mean you have a Cable company device which also has WiFi built-in AND also have an Airport router?
    4. Under About This Mac -> More Info -> System Report -> Network, do you see any wifi adapters? Usually a grey wifi icon in the menu bar implies that it has been turned off. If you Turn Wifi On in System Preferences -> Network -> WiFi, does the menu bar icon show you any change in the wifi icon?
