Can't Back Up Mail Due To Numerous EMIX Errors -- Help

When I try to drag my mail folder from Library to a backup hard drive, it begins to copy then quits, saying it couldn't read an .emix file. I delete that file, and the whole thing happens again. No matter what I try, it keeps finding .emix files that it says it can't read.
What is the problem here and how to I bypass it?

I have not had this problem, and I routinely do this? What type of accounts do you have? Did your mailboxes originate in an earlier version of Mail, and then were convert when you upgraded to Tiger?

iCloud doesn't back up email. If you are using an IMAP email account your email is stored on your email provider's server. Your iPad backup only backs up your email account settings, not your email.

Nautilus Can't Be Used Now Due To An Unexpected Error

I discovered that I am getting this message almost every time that I restart X using the command Ctrl + Alt + Backspace. I have been trying to figure out my proper resolution and have been doing many of these restarts recently.
The error message in full reads:
Nautilus can't be used now, due to an unexpected error from Bonobo when attempting to locate the factory. Killing bonobo-activation-server and restarting Nautilus may help fix the problem.
I followed this advise and ran a killall on both the activation server and nautilus. things seemed to be fixed after restarting x. i have been doing a fair bit of research on this phenomenon and it appears that over time that these fixes do not work and the problem rapidly gets worse.
i have searched the arch forum for references to this problem but found none. has anyone dealt with this problem, and if so, have you managed to fix it?
some articles site success with the deletion of ~/.config file or creating a new user. i was thinking of running
pacman -Sy gnome gnome-extras etc...
in order to reinstall gnome to see if that might clear up the problem.
any help or advice that you could offer on the situation would be great. thank you!
EDIT:
I can almost say with some certainty, that this is a permission's problem. After a nautilus failure, i always have to reset sudo with sudo -K.

looks like the gtk theme is not the problem. didnt really think it was, but the documentation was worth posting. the guys over at ubuntu look as though they have dealt with this in great detail, and have produced a few solutions, which may or may not work. i have decided to post these for anyone else who may have these problems.

judging by a google search on this problem and the number of responses that came up, the bonobo/daemon error is quite a common curse for the users of gnome, although much more common in distros such as ubuntu or fedora.
i hope that this proves useful and if anyone has anything to add, please feel free. the more documentation the better.

another solution would be to remove gnome and reinstall it from scratch. (some please tell me if i am doing this correctly. thanks )
1. clean your catch:
pacman -Scc
2. remove gnome, gnome extras, and whatever other gnome files you might have installed
pacman -Rscn gnome gnome-extra etc...
3. reinstall gnome and gnome extras
pacman -Sy gnome gnome-extra
4. reconfigure your desktop the way you want.

You can look for it.
If you find it, you will have it back.
If you had find my iphone activated on the iphone BEFORE it was lost, then you may be able to track it.

It sounds like you use Quest as your ISP, or whoever you have as your ISP is being taken over by Quest. If this is the case it is possible that your email server is being transitioned to Quest and you will need to change your email address and server settings.
I am only speculating since I do not have enough information. I suggest calling your ISP or Quest and ask their help desk about this.

How can I back up mail boxes to an external drive (not using Time Machine)?

I recently lost all of my mailboxes when switching from Mavericks back to Mountain Lion; I still have all of my emails, just without the mailboxes I'd created over the past 6 years to organize these emails. The files that control organization information for Mail, iPhoto, and iTunes must not be obvious. The 2 Apple "Geniuses" who wiped my computer after assuring me I'd backed up everything I needed clearly didn't think of mailboxes (Mail), events and albums (iPhoto), and playlists and ratings (iTunes) -- lost all of those. Would greatly appreciate it if someone could tell me where to find the organizational files for Mail that contain the "smart" and regular mailboxes. Thank you!

Are you referring to mailboxes as in different email domain providers (AOL, Yahoo, GMail, etc???)
Or are you referring to mailboxes as in archived folders with various messages in each?
If the latter, have you considered moving it all to iCloud and not storing anything locally?
I have my folders/boxes in iCloud and dont' botehr with storing anything locally anymore. Too much pain to worry about saving the mailboxes on a USB stick any time you reinstall your OS X.
Moreover ,the new versions always needed to be updated after you imported them back into Mail app.
Just a thought....
Unless you have more than 5GB of mail stored, I woudl consider moving it to iCloud once and for all.

Can I back up iTunes in safe mode? Please help!!!!!

My windows vista laptop is about to die and I can only access it from safe mode. I want to back up my iTunes library but it's empty in iTunes when I access it in this mode. It's all still there because the disk drive is still full. Can I back up my library from folders and files through documents and not through iTunes itself? Many thanks.

Normally in C:\Users\<User>\Music. Unless already backed up via other means you should probably backup each <User> folder in C:\Users at a minimum so that you can selectively restore the data later,

I force-restarted my MacBook Pro and now it wants me to repair or erase my disk and Reinstall Mavericks. But I can't back up my files to do this. HELP!!!!!

I had to force shut down my MacBook Pro today as it was freezing up and not allowing me to really click on anything. All it let me do was close out of Photoshop. What happened was FireFox decided to crash and not reopen after attempting to install an updated version of Flash Player. When I rebooted after the force-shut down (holding down the power button to turn off my computer, which has always been effective in the past), I got a screen for OS X Utilities with the following prompts:
Restore From Time Machine Backup
Reinstall OS X
Get Help Online
Disk Utility
So, the first one is out of the question. In the 5 1/2 years I've proudly owned my computer, I have never created a Time Machine account/backup. I have preferred to use an external hard drive. Unfortunately, the other prompts would be A-okay, if it weren't for the fact that I've been lax in updating my backup and haven't backed up to my external in about 8 months.
Because.... Unfortunately, to Reinstall OS X, my computer wants to erase all my data, so I need the backup of my files. (I have a lot of photos on my drive). But it says I can't even reinstall, because the hard drive is locked.... What?
And it won't repair my hard drive. The prompts for why it should be repaired are: Invalid content in journal, Invalid B-tree node size, The volume could not be verified completely.
When I try to create a new image to backup to my external in order to wipe my system, it says "Unable to create "disk0s2.dmg" (invalid argument). Now, I am not totally computer illiterate. I can follow a set of instructions and do my own IT work basically 99% of the time. But this is ludicrous. I don't want to loose my images or lesson plans (I actually just got my school issued laptop and was going to transfer school files over to my school-issued computer as soon as I finished with my Internet needs (bills)).
What do I need to do to get my files backed up or fix this problem. I've rebooted my computer twice now to try to fix this...

You are running 10.5.8
Did you try booting off your Install disk holding the c key down. From here you can get to the drop down menu just a few clicks in (you are not going to install) and run the Disk Utility>Repair Disk. See if it will let you do this.

Can't complete your request due to a program error

So I buy a brand new iMac retina 5K 32G Ram, 1T SSD, i7 4.0 - 2 weeks ago.
I spend a few days with software and passwords.
THEN
in the middle of a "timeline" animation Photoshop crashes.
Lots of layers and stuff.
I restart computer and the whole file won't do anything.
Can't save due to program error.
Can't select a layer or... literally anything.
File is useless.
2 days of work on a crunch for product release- all gone!
Spend an hour with an Adobe support person who is reading a manual and largely clueless.
we reinstall and run permissions test and verify disc and all the usual stuff.
They suggest I start the work over.
Work 2 more days on fresh file and WHAM!
Same thing.
Spent an hour with Apple support- we test machine and reinstall everything.
Still can't open the file and have lost 4 days of work.

is adobe PS cc 2014 not compatible with Mavericks?
is the the beginning of the end? No help for power users that rely on this to make money?

Could you try "the usual" first:
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Command+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
"3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on www.yahoo.com, try either:
* right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
* (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

Transform Box Numeric Entry Error - HELP!

I am using InDesign CS3 on a G5 Power PC Mac with 2.5 gB of SD RAM. The problem that I am getting is with the numeric entry into the "Transform" box in InDesign.
It will only happen on large or complex files that I am working on, I will have a particular measurement - 125 mm - and I will want to subtract 25 from this measurement.
I place my cursor at the end of the measurement and type "-25mm" but the entry just seems to disappear. I then click again in this box (it does not matter what box within the transform window it is) and re-enter the measurement quickly and press return and the same result - it still retains the original measurement of 125 mm.
This does not happen with every measurement that I enter - but I seem to find that if I leave the program idle for a short amount of time that this issue seems to resolve itself. However, it does keep happening and I am losing valuable time in modifying a document.
If anyone has any solution - could you please let me know. Look forward to reading some replies over the coming days.

I am trying to move from Microsft Entourage to Apple's Mail. I tried using Mail's built-in import feature, but when I try to import from Entourage, I get the following error:
unable to connect to Microsoft Entourage. Try opening Microsoft Entourage then run the import.
