Can't back-up nano first gen, can't back-up nano first gen

I can't back-up iPod Nano 1st gen in iTunes - need to, prior to sending back to Apple due to product recall.  Can you help?
Thanks, Lisa

If the Nano is not fully functional, I'm afraid you're out of luck. Sorry. :S

  • I use my 7th gen ipod on bluetooth and when the battery dies while on bluetooth it wont turn on or charge and the computer doesnt find it.  This is my 2nd nano in just over a month.  The first one had the same problem.  how can i fix this?

I have the latest ipod nano (7th gen, 16gb) and I use it mostly on bluetooth. When the battery dies during use with the Bluetooth it doesn't take a charge, the battery doesn't turn on and of course the computer doesn't even acknowledge that it's plugged in. This is my second nano in just over a month, the same thing happen with the first one. I just want to know if their is a way to fix this so I don't have to keep sending it in? Or maybe pay the difference to upgrade to a touch?

If the battery has been completely depleted on the Nano (not really a good idea) then it is going to take 15 to 30 minutes before your computer can see it. Same thing will happen with an iPod Touch.

It's not designed to work like this. When you sync, the iPod stores some information that basically says 'this iPod belongs to computer xyz'. Apple did this to prevent copyright issues (syncing someone else's music).
If you really want to do this, you'll have to at least tie both iTunes installations to the same account. Maybe have them sync with each other.

  • I need to downgrade my ipod touch 2nd gen Mc model back to 3.1.3 because that is what my default firmware was when i first bought it. iOS 4.2.1 is slow on my ipod, is there a way maybe if apple can reset my ipod touch back to 3.1.3?

is there a way if apple can reset my ipod touch 2nd gen MC model back to 3.1.3? because iOS 4.2.1 is slow on my ipod and i cant deal with also i cannot afford a new ipod at the moment. also 3.1.3 was my default iOS when i first activated my ipod touch. I bought it in December in 2009

"You can restore to Factory Default which should go back to the original system"
    This will not work..
A restore will always install the latest available software.
Again, there is NO legit way to go back at all.

  • I lost all my songs in my ipod Nano 6th gen. when attempting to transfer from old lybrary to new. Can I get them back?

I lost all my old library in my ipod Nano 6th gen when trying to understand how to sync to new laptop. Can I get them back?

If they are gone, then your question is answered.
If you synced your ipod to a different computer, then the current content of the ipod would be erased.
You cannot sync the music from the ipod to the computer.  It sync from the comptuer to the ipod.
If the music is gone, then it is gone.
Not sure how you think this didn't help you.
Your music is only where you put it.  If you synced your ipod to another computer, erasing the ipod, then the music is not on the ipod any longer.
Not sure what else you are looking for.

  • The on/off button on my 6th gen iPod nano recently got spoilt and I sent it back to the shop for a repair/exchange a week ago. Now I have just found out about the new 7th gen iPod nano and I am wondering, can I get the new one as a replacement?

No.  You can turn your 6G Nano in to be recycled at your local Apple Store for a 10% discount towards the purchase of a new one. Otherwise, your only other option would be to sell the iPod on Craigslist or eBay and use the proceeds from the sale towards the purchase of the new 7G nano.

  • My iPod nano 3rd gen went mad then all the songs were gone can I get them back

My iPod nano 3rd gen wiped all my music can I recover it

If it's no longer in iTunes or stored in a backup anywhere, I"m afraid you are out of luck.
For music purchased in iTunes, you can redownload it again no cost via iCloud if you live in a country where this service has gone live.  See this article for more details.

As for music imported from outside of iTunes, you'll need to rerip those into iTunes if at all possible.

  • HT1399 I just downloaded the newest version of itunes, and when I connect my ipod nano (3rd gen), I can no longer see my playlists (on the left hand side). I hate the new format...any way to revert back to the old one?

I just downloaded the newest versionof itunes. Now when I plug in my ipod, I can no longer see my playlists (listed on the left hand side). The new format is very confusing! How do I drag and drop songs into specific playlists I have?  Is there a way to revert back to the old itunes?

I had the same question. Someone answered perfectly here post https://discussions.apple.com/message/20575126#20575126
The answer was click View > Show sidebar. Devices and playlists will display in the left sidebar once again.

  • IPad first gen Calendar will not show month view for March. When you go feb to march the pad goes back to the home screen. Apr etc are all there. March seems to have some problem always going to the home screen. How can I fix this

I am haveing trouble with the calandar view on an iPad first gen. the month of March will not display , no matter how it is asked for the device drops out of calandar and defaults to the home screen. all other months display. Any fix suggestions welcome.

Try removing any all-day events from the calendar for the 1st April 2013 e.g. if you are syncing the calendar from somewhere else (e.g. Outlook on a PC or iCal/Calendar on a Mac) then change it to a timed event instead of all-day (if you don't sync your calendar from anywhere then try going into list view, go to 1st April and change any 'all day' events to times e.g. change Easter Monday to start at something like 4am) - it seems that there is a problem with all day events on that date which is when the clocks change due to daylight saving on the day before.

  • Ipod nano 4th gen. accidentally synced to computer. can i get my data back

I accidentally synced and erased conents on my ipod. Is it possible to get my data back?

    Hello cynthialou13,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
I accidentally synced and erased conents on my ipod. Is it possible to get my data back?
Not very likely, even with the use of recovery software. If the content that was on your iPod is not in your iTunes library, then it looks like you may be out of luck. Sorry.

  • How can I fix my Ipod nano 5 gen

I got a refurbished Ipod nano 5 gen at a Gamestop and I have been having fits with it since. I tried using it on my laptop and it wont show and I used it on the family computer and formatted it and all it shows me is that it is a removeable disk and thats it. On the ipod, it says that I have to restore it on Itunes then go to the "Do not disconnect" screen and nothing else. I have restarted it, the computers, updated the itunes on both computers and have gotten no where. Could anyone help please?

    Hello lexifoxxi,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help in this situation. It contains a walkthrough on how to restore your iPod back to factory settings:
    Restoring iPod to factory settings
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1339
    How to restore iPod
Verify that you have an active Internet connection, because you may need to download new versions of the iTunes and iPod Software.
Download and install the latest version of iTunes if necessary.
Open iTunes. Connect your iPod to your computer using the USB or FireWire cable that came with your iPod.
After a few moments, your iPod will appear in the Source panel in iTunes.
Select your iPod in the Source panel. You will see information about your iPod appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes window.
    Click Restore.
If you are using a Mac, you will be asked to enter an administrator’s name and password.
A progress bar will appear on the computer screen, indicating that stage one of the restore process has begun. When this stage is done, iTunes will present one of two messages with instructions specific to the iPod model you are restoring.
Disconnect iPod and connect it to iPod Power Adapter (typically applies to older iPod models).
Leave iPod connected to computer to complete restore (typically applies newer iPod models).
During stage two of the restore process, the iPod displays an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remain connected to the computer or iPod power adapter during this stage.
Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see, because the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
After stage two of the restore process is complete, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear. It will ask you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences, as it did when you connected your iPod for the first time.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,

  • HT1351 Got a used 4th gen nano, but i need to sync it. i can see it but i cant figure out how to authorize it

Got a used 4th gen nano and I need to sync it with my library on my computer. I can see the ipod but i cant figure out how to authorize it

You don't need to "authorize" it, unless you are trying to sync content that uses DRM (copy protection).  You probably just need to set up syncing.
First, if the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  The iPod appears in the sidebar, under DEVICES, when connected.
Select the iPod in the sidebar.  The iPod's Summary screen is shown to the right.  Toward the top, there is a bar of buttons, starting with Summary.  Click on Music to the right of Summary.  This Music screen is where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music.  If your iTunes music library is small enough to fit on the iPop's storage, you can choose to sync Entire music library.  Otherwise, choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  From the lists below, select what you want to sync the iPod.  One convenient way to set this up is to create one or more playlists in your iTunes library, and put ALL of the songs you want on the iPod on those playlists.  (Or you can use existing playlists.)  Back on the iPod's Music screen, select (checkmark) those playlists under Playlists.  You can also select other items on those lists, as desired.
When you click Apply, iTunes syncs the songs in your selections to the iPod.  Going forward, to update the iPod, just update those playlists in your iTunes library (add/remove songs).  The iPod does not need to be connected.  The next time you connect the iPod (or click Sync if already connected), iTunes updates the iPod with the same changes automatically.

  • I have a 4th or 5th generation iPod nano (I don't know which) but I want to transfer all of my music into my new laptop's iTunes library but I can't lose any of it because I don't have a back up. How do I do this?

I have an iPod nano and a new laptop. I just got my first Apple id and I really want to transfer all of my iPod music into my library. I don't have any back up and can't lose some of this music because it was a gift from an ex-boyfriend and I don't want to lose the great music. Please help me! Thank you!!

You can deauthorise all 5 at once, then reauthorize the one you want.
