Can anyone help me ?I've broken my screen and can't back up because my computer says I've got to prompt it from my phone ! I can't see my screen!

Ok, this sounds like a problem that only a complete numpty would have (hands up, that's me).
Here is my issue: I have an old iphone 3G that a friend gave to me - (primarily to use for Wifi as I don't have a computer and I needed to access the internet). For a while (a week) it worked FINE and then all of a sudden my phone will NOT connect to any wifi network. It just brings up a message that says 'cannot connect to this network'.
I have turned the airplane mode on and off
I have restored network settings (several times)
I have turned the divice on and off
and I have checked for new software updates on my friends computer - but apparently we're all good there *(even though the muppet in the apple store was like ' oh, you've got old software we're up to 5 now just update it - given that she couldn't find itunes on an ipad, I'm inclined to think she knows not much more than me).
I know the natural thing would be to reset the phone but I DONT want to lose all my contacts / photos / messages etc.
I don't want to Sync the phone to my friends computer cos it would mess up all her contacts etc. as she syncs her phone to her computer.
I'm a bit stuck.

An iPhone 3G can only be updated to iOS 4.2.1...that's the end of the line for that model iPhone. If that's the iOS already on your phone, there are no further updates available.

Icloud storage has nothing to do with the storage on your iphone.

Can i back up to iphones on the same lap top with the same apple id? or do they each need their own apple id? Will it cause the data to mix or cause one to lose its data?

Working on that now. I'm just getting frustrated that everytime I run updates for the phone I end up with tech problems that I have to spend time solving as opposed to updates that actually improve my usage. That was all I could put in the initial "box." Then it brought me to this page with instructions on how to write a good sentence.

After going back and forth between Apple, AT&T and the police (all telling me to go to the other two) I took AT&Ts suggestion and got a new number. One tech warned against doing a backup, especially on my Mac, saying if my phone had been hacked then whatever bug was there would then invade my computer. But nobody knows how to determine if the phone has been hacked or a virus was planted there. Unfortunately I know who would have reason to do such a thing and all I can say is that he is at the top technologically and could easily do it. Almost impossible to prove, however.
So I need to preserve my text messages and my emails as well. I backed up my photos to that Microsoft product (One-Drive) and it froze (Surprise, Surprise) with four short videos to go, and no way of stopping that (when I tried it crashed repeatedly) so I'm in crisis mode here.

Betty I don't know if you fixed your hacking problem but I feel your pain. I've seen some strange things going on between my iMac and my iPhone and Apple has told me the same thing, call the police which I have done. The hackers have stole 500.00 out of my checking account have access to every internet account I use and no matter how often I change the password their right back on the account. I closed my FB account 3 times only to have someone reopen it. Right now I've got a link in my reading list (Safari) that if I click on it, it allows me to log onto my FB account anonymously.
I've seen a green folder come out of no where while I was trying to delete my passwords out of keychain when that green folder was put into the key chain I was immediately locked out. I than went into system preferences to try to make changes to my security settings, when I clicked on the icon it wouldn't open. I've seen log files of automator receiving commands and sending out my personal information thats on my computer.
I have a legitamate program called iExplorer that allows you to look at the contents of your iPhone back ups and saw a transaction someone made at the Apple store for some full length movies, some albums, ibooks and other apps but when I called the iTunes store and they said none of those items were showing up on my account. If their not on my account how can they be on my iPhone 6? One day someone was using my gmail account and unknowingly used google maps to search for an Italian restaurant, than a Mexican restaurant than a coffee shop and their search showed up on my iPhone but I didn't have my gmail account installed on my iPhone 6. Using my computer I logged onto my gmail account and looked at the maps history and sure enough there were the searches when I'd hover my curser over the link it gave me the longitude and latitude of the where the hacker was when he was using google maps. I know whoever reads this thinks Im crazy but I've documented everything and can prove the things that I have mentioned in this post actually happened.
One day I had my laptop (pc) and my iMac next to each other as I was using both. when I clicked on airport it showed that my laptop and my iMac had made a connection and were actually communicating with each other. I know I didn't do it I don't know how. The iMac was logged into my iCloud account while my laptop wasn't. I right clicked on the page I was redirected to and read the java script and couldn't believe that someone had actually configured Internet Explorer to redirect me to a blank page when I tried to go to Microsoft. Apples answer to all this is there was nothing wrong with my iPhone or my iMac and if I thought there was a problem to call the police which I have done.
Theres no doubt the hackers are reading this while I type it or will read it and I simply don't care anymore. I no longer email anyone, don't use my iCloud account and have taken precautions to protect my credit but if I ever find out who has invaded my privacy to this extreme the police are going to want to talk to me because Im going to hurt them like they've never been hurt before

Deleting the backup only permanently deletes the backup from iCloud. It doesn't do anything to the data currently in your account or on your devices. To delete it, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of the device that you want to delete the backup for, then tap Delete Backup.
You can't see anything in an iCloud backup, if that's want you're asking. You can only restore it to your device. You can, of course, see your other iCloud data.

1) updating new software
2) icloud wont back up phone due to lack of storage
3) I can't but extra icloud space due to the fact the phone is a replacement and itunes cant verify the bank details
4) when i try to backup to pc it says itunes could not back up i phone - becasue the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iphone

If the free disk space on your Mac is too small to backup and your iPhone then it has too little free space to run properly.
You need to start doing some removal of data to free up space on the disk drive. The data can be either deleted or moved to another disk drive. what ever you do leave the system files alone and work with the files in your Home directory only.
The first thin you need to do is to make sure you have a backup of the Mac first.

If you had previously been backing up to iCloud (or a computer with iTunes), you would possibly have a backup. That said, if you can't turn the phone on, you cannot create a backup of the device now. Sorry.

Welcome to the Apple community.
If you mean that Find My Phone is asking for a password to a different Apple ID to your current Apple ID.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7, or if you restore from a previous back up made before you changed your details.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID using your current password, you don’t need access to this address if it’s previously been used with your Apple ID, once you have saved these details enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone" and delete the account from your device.
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, save it once again and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

My iPhone got stolen - can I back up that phone's data on another iPhone from iTunes backup?

Details: My iPhone 4 was stolen and I activated Lost Mode on iCloud. A lot of time has passed and I've given up the chance of getting it back. My question is this. I'm trying to back up a new iPhone with my old phones data that I saved on iTunes backups. When I try to back up my new phone with the stolen phone's data, it says I must first disable Lost Mode before I can do this. Since the phone was stolen, I can't use the phone to disable Lost Mode and I'm if I go to iCloud and remove the device permanantly from "my devices" I'm afraid it will delete my iTunes backup for that phone and all the data I'm trying to transfer to the new phone. Does that make sense? How can I turn off "Lost Mode" without deleting my iTunes backup for my phone that was stolen so that I can back up my new iPhone with my old phone's back up file on iTunes?

Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen. Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
