Can't backup apps purchased since I got my new iPhone

I had an iPhone 3G. I now have an iPhone 3GS running iOS 5.0.1. All of my old apps are backed up just fine, but any apps I've loaded onto my new iPhone don't get backed up and iTunes tells me I need to authorize this computer, but my computer is already authorized for my Apple account. I haven't changed my Apple account which I've had for at least 10 years.
I feel like I need to authorize this computer for the new phone but how do I do that.

Well, as I mentioned in my original post, this comuter IS authorized for my Apple account. After making the post I deauthorized and then re-authorized the computer which accomplished nothing.
However, your mention that the apps need to be downloaded in iTunes and can't be copied from the iPhone to iTunes turned out to be the key to decyphering the less than elucidating message in iTunes.
The message says: Some apps can't be copied to iTunes because they are not authorized for the computer. What it might better say is: Apps purchased on your iPhone need to be downloaded from the Apple store to your computer and cannot be transferred from your iPhone.
Once I downloaded all the new apps, I no longer get the message, so I'm assuming the secret has been discovered.

I am unable to login to my itunes match since I got a new iphone. Where is my music? how can I get it?

    Hello there, jane_apple_user.
The following Knowledge Base article reviews the steps for how to add your iOS device to iTunes Match:
iTunes: How to add a computer or iOS device to iTunes Match
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4913
To add an iOS device to iTunes Match
On your iOS device, go to Settings>Music.
Note: iTunes Match requires iOS 5.0.1 or later; you can find the latest iOS software here
Tap the iTunes Match switch to On.
To access your music in iCloud, open the Music Player app on your device.
Your music in iCloud will be integrated into your local music library. A download button will appear to the right of any content that you have in iCloud that doesn't already exist on your device.
    Important:
When enabling iTunes Match on your iOS device, the music library on your iOS device will be deleted and then replaced with your music in iCloud.
Syncing music with iTunes will be disabled while iTunes Match is enabled on your iOS device.
By default, when adding an iOS device to iTunes Match, downloading over a cellular network is enabled1. To disable downloading over cellular for iTunes Match, choose Settings > Music > Use Cellular Data > Off.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Can you load apps that you bought onto a new Iphone with out hooking the phone up to a computer/itunes

Help!!! I lost my Iphone and thinking of going and getting a new one but at the time Itunes is not working on my computer So I can not hook the new phone up to the computer. What I am wanting to know is if their is a way for me to get the apps I bought on the old phone onto the new one with out a computer?  PLEASE HELP!!!!

It will ask you if you want to set it up as a new iPhone or backup from an old iPhone. If you backup from the old iPhone you **might** loose the apps/data that you have downloaded from the point on that you got the new iPhone. You can always redownload the apps from the store.

  • My playlists are no longer in my itunes since I got a new iphone

So I got a new iPhone 4...when I synced it and set it up etc, my iTunes was totally wiped. Now when I access the store it says I have no albums/playlists etc.
I have a horrible feeling it may be due to the fact I randomly set up a new apple id for the iCloud (I thought you had to) and I used a made up email, as it wouldnt let me use my current one. So I have not been able to verify the email (of course as it doesnt exist) and I think this might be why nothing is coming up. But even when I used my verified details my iTunes store says I have nothing. I have tried to delete the iCloud profile but it just keeps on coming back as the made up one, no matter how many times I delete it.
I no longer have the pc I originally set up the iTunes on (years ago)
Im just not sure what to do as the thought of losing all the playlists (and to be fair mine isnt huge) it painful.
Any ideas on how to help an idiot out?
I work through a pc not mac.
    Thanks

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • Hi!! I would like to know how to get my apps back. I got a new Iphone but my apps are in my pc and I do not know how to do it.

    Hi
Can somebody helme to get my apps back?....
I got another Iphone and my apps are in my PC, I already sincroniced but nothing happend..
Thank you from San José del Cabo México

Normally when you connect a new iPhone to your computer iTunes will recognize it as a new iPhone and ask you how would you like to set it up.  If you didn't get that screen then you may have used the iPhone prior.  If it didn't  then try deleting all data then connect the iPhone 4 to the computer and it should go to the iPhone setup screen where it will give you the opportunity to setup your iPhone as a new device (the name of your old iPhone should be in the name box).  If that don't happen then do this, keep your iPhone connected to the computer, launch iTunes then click on the iPhone icon in the left window then click on the app tab on the main window make sure all of the app have a check in the check box, also check all of your other tabs then re-sync.

  • Apps Purchased cannot be transferred to new iPhone

I purchased a new iPhone recently. I had purchased some apps and downloaded on my old iPhone. They were also backed up.
However when I try and transfer to my new phone, they will not transfer. My new phone has the same name as my old phone. Does this matter ?
I have the receipts for the purchases.
    Regards,
    Jimout

You can download Apps again for free from the App Store, you will not be charged again.
As long as you use the same iTunes account that you first purchased the Apps, you can download them as often as you like.

  • HT203167 the only items showing up in my "Purchased" section are the songs i've purchased since i got a new phone but none of the songs i purchased on my old phone (which used the same apple ID). how do i get this stuff back?

these songs were bought using my old iPhone/on an old computer so it isn't possible for me to copy the files to another device. how do i find them?

    Hello jaggerseyes
I would check the purchase history to see the purchases. If you have any further questions about it, there is another article that will assist with getting back those purchases resolved.
On a computer with iTunes installed, click purchase history to have iTunes open and display your purchase history. You will be prompted for your Apple ID and password.

  • Can anyone help? I've just got my new iphone 6.  I'm restoring from the icloud but it's saying there's not enough storage for my photos....and I'm unable to access any images.  Help appreciated

    Hi,
I've just moved on from an iphone 5 to an iphone 6.
I'm now on my second attempt at restoring it through the icloud.
My photos and videos are unavailable and it keeps saying I'm low on storage. At this stage it just keeps saying it's updating but it's been saying that for 8 hours and I still don;t have any photos available....any advice appreciated.  It's getting a little frustating
    Thanks,
    Emma

The backup cannot be restored to the iPhone if there is not enough storage space available.

Go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings.  This will erase your device.  Then you will go through the setup screens again as you did when your device was new, and when given the option, select Restore from iCloud Backup.
This link gives another overview of backup and restore:

Be aware that photos should always be synced to a computer for archiving and that relying on a restore from an icloud backup may not return all (or any) of your photos.  Once on the computer, you can sync the photos to the new device...

I know I'm checking the right email I get your advertising messages there. I'm 85% sure I'm using the right answers! This has been very frustrating! Please help make this right!

The reset link for the security question will send the email to your rescue email account : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5312 -  that is the email account that you are checking, and you've checked the spam folder on it as well as the inbox, and tried clicking the reset link again ?
If you aren't receivineg the email then you will need to contact Support in your country to get the questions reset.

When they've been reset you can then use the steps half-way down the HT5312 link above to view your rescue email address to check that it's correct, in case you need to use it in the potential future use

  • I got a new iPhone , why can't I get my apps from my cloud ?

I got a new iPhone , why can't I get my apps from my cloud to go on my new iPhone from App Store it's asking for a credit card the apps were free and are in my cloud already ,so why is it asking me for a credit card and it will send me to my settings and that's were it asks me and if I don't put one in I can't get my apps!

While you could create a new ID without a credit card by following the steps in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2534, I would recommend you first try contacting Apple support to find out what you can do to use your existing Apple ID without using a credit card (if it didn't have one before).  You can set up a call with them by going to https://expresslane.apple.com, then click iTunes>iTunes Store>Purchases, Billing & Redemption>How to recover missing purchased items.  The call will be free but you will need your serial number, which you can find in Settings>General>About.  Alternatively, you can contact iTunes store support by email here: https://ssl.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html.

  • HT203167 I bought and downloaded the Ricky Gervais' Audiobook series "A Guide To" last year off of my old iPhone. Since i bought my new iPhone the audiobook dont show up in my purchased items list. Is there a way I can retrieve them without having to pay

I bought and downloaded the Ricky Gervais' Audiobook series "A Guide To" last year off of my old iPhone. Since i bought my new iPhone the audiobook dont show up in my purchased items list. Is there a way I can retrieve them without having to pay again.Ty

Sorry, but audiobooks cannot be downloaded more than once without charge. You will need to have the audiobooks in iTunes on your computer so you can sync them to your new iPhone. If the audiobooks are not in iTunes and you don't have a viable backup, you may be out of luck. You can, however, contact the iTunes Store, explain the situation, and see if they can make an exception for you.

  • I forgot all of the answers to my security questions and when I set up my apple id I did not add a rescue email, I recently got a new iphone and I cannot purchase anything on it because it asks me to answer my security questions which i can't reset, help!

I forgot all of the answers to my security questions and when I set up my apple id I did not add a rescue email, I recently got a new iphone and I cannot purchase anything on it because it asks me to answer my security questions which i can't reset because I do not have a rescue email. what do I do?

this does not help. I have forgotten ALL of the answers to my security questions. I can NOT reset the answers to my security questions without answering two of the three security questions. The other way to reset the answers to these questions is for apple to send me an email on my rescue email addres which I DO NOT HAVE.
