  • Can't backup 2nd computer

I connected and backed up my MBP with no problem, but when I tried to backup my daughter's MB I could not do it.
I opened Time Machine on her computer, clicked on "Change Disk" and selected the Time Capsule. At that point it asked for the password, so I entered the password I created when I setup TC from my computer, it seemed to accept that.
Next, I clicked on "Backup now" from the menu bar, Time Machine; below the status bar it displayed "Preparing", then an error window opened with the following message:
    Time Machine Error
The backup disk image could not be created.
From what I read here, and on FAQ, all I should have had to do was connect to the TC and start the TM backup. Any thoughts as to what is wrong?

On the computer that cannot backup, open System Preferences and then open Sharing
Make sure that the computer name appears. It should be less than 27 characters and avoid apostrophes or other exclamation marks.
Also, on the same computer, click in an open area of your desktop to show the Finder menus at the top of the screen. Click on Finder and then click on Preferences and then the General tab. Under the heading of "show these items on the desktop", make sure there is a check mark next to "Connected Servers"
Restart the computer and then try the backup again. Any help?
If not, open Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility
Click on the exact name of the hard drive on your desktop to highlight it. If you have not changed this, it will be Macintosh HD. Then click Repair Disk Permissions.
Depending on how much data you have on the disk, this will take 20-45 minutes. You will be notified when the action is complete.
    Then, try a backup again.

  • HT3275 How can I backup my computer to a hard drive attached to my router using Time Machine?

Time Machine does not list my external drive as an option.

Is it a "normal" external HD, connected to the router via a USB or FireWire cable?  If so, that's not supported.
If it's a Network drive (NAS), connected to the router via an Ethernet cable, make sure it's compatible with Time Machine for the version of OSX you're running (many aren't, and some that worked on Leopard don't work on Snow Leopard, etc.).
If it is compatible,  the maker should provide instructions.

  • Can't Backup with Time Machine under Mac OS X 10.6.6

Ever since I updated my Late 2009 Core i5 iMac with the 10.6.6 Combined Update, I can't backup my computer with Time Machine, either the Automatic Backup or the Backup Now command.
After backing up 20 MB or so, I get a message that the backup was interrupted because of disk problems, presumably the Time Machine external disk. I get the message to retry later and, if difficulties persist, to use the Apple Disk Utility to correct the problem. I followed the advice to no avail, retrying later, erasing the Time Machine hard disk and, the last time, erasing the Time Machine hard disk followed by a new partition creation.
As I filed a bug report for the Time Machine Back up command when Apple was developping Mac OS X 10.6.5, I am inclined to believe that the previous beta software bug was re-introduced by the 10.6.6 update.
I will use the Disk Utility on the Macintosh HD to check whether it would solve anything. Repairing the permissions and checking for disk problems. If the problem isn't corrected, I will submit a bug report.

    Update:
It was the Macintosh HD which was corrupt, reporting 1 fewer folder and 1 more file than it should have. The solution was to start the iMac with the Mac OS X Install DVD, use Disk Utility to repair the Macintosh HD, and back up the computer with Time Machine.
The Macintosh HD became corrupt while installing the Mac OS X 10.6.6 Combined Update, a not so infrequent problem I am told.
In this instance, Time Machine realized the corruption problem, warned me, and stopped the back up before the records were falsified. Great!
Time Machine performed as expected, but its warning should have identified which hard disk was corrupt, saving me the confusion with the Time Machine external hard drive. Had Time Machine warning clearly identified the corrupt drive, I wouldn't have erased my Time Machine backup.
That's one point to improve with Lion.

  • Can I back up computer with time machine on lion then reinstall snow leopard and restore from backup safely

Can I back up computer with time machine on lion then reinstall snow leopard and restore from backup safely?

If your machine came with Snow Leopard or earlier and you have your install disks, yes, you can reinstall SL. However, you will need to erase the entire hard drive so you will lose all your files. Also note that there are some apps (such as Mail) which can't be downgraded "automatically" such as with a restore from Time Machine. Here is some info on TM:

Can I backup my iTune library to an external drive and reinstall on a new computer? To use disks I need 29 to do this.

Hi Niel.  Can you be move specific for those of us not tech savy?   1 - Can you provide steps to back up the library?  2 - How do you organize the library?  3 - When you move the entire iTunes folder, does it include iTunes paid for music along with downloaded music from CDs?  Thanks

my screen is broke and can't type my passcode in. plus i never plugged my phone into my computer. how can i backup my phone so i keep all my information before i buy a new phone?

It's too late for that. Maybe you should consider setting up your next iPhone to backup to iCloud... it happens automatically without user intervention once it's set up. All that's required is a power source for the phone and a WiFi internet connection.

  • Can I use my computer during a My Password backup?

My first backup using My Password is going to take hours. Can I use my computer during the backup?

Yes. But expect it to be sluggish at times, especially when trying to read from or write to another disk.

  • Can you backup on icloud and also sync to your computer?

Can you backup an iPhone 4s to icloud and also sync to a computer if you wanted to?

    Yes.

  • Why can i use one computer to sync music

It ***** to find out that with using iTunes, you can only use one computer to sync things such as music. The computer that I was previously using with syncing died on me and now that I am on a new one it says that I have to erase everything on my iPhone just to put one mixtape on it which is complete BS. So I ask you Apple, iTunes support, or whoever, why?

If you had your itunes backed up then you would not have that problem. You could restore it using time machine, if on a mac, or other backup software, if on a pc. Also if you had itunes match then you don't need itunes at all to sync your music up anymore.

  • How can I backup NAS drive to Time Capsule using Time Machine?

My itunes library is on a USB HD that's connected to my time capsule, essentially turning the drive into a NAS drive. Is there anyway I can include this drive in time machine backups? So basically, time machine would be backing up the hard drive connected to the time capsule... to the time capsule.
    Thanks. Steve

Sorry, but not possible. The Time Capsule can only backup an internal drive on a computer and an external drive that is attached directly to a computer.

  • Can you backup to 2 different Time Capsules?

I have a TC at home and one at work. Can I backup to both?

Yes, you can do this, but you must manually point your computer at the Time Capsule that you want use to each time you change locations.
Open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)
    Click Time Machine
    Click Select Disk
    Highlight your Time Capsule
    Click Use for Backups
