Can't batch capture, no pre-roll

I am trying to re-capture some footage. The problem is, I needed the beginning of the tape, so I originally captured from the start of the tape. Now, I can't batch capture because there is "not enough pre-roll" (not a direct quote, but that is the error it is giving me).
How can I fix this? Is there a way to change how long the pre-roll will take? Or is there a way to edit the in point on the clip?
Thanks, like always!
Matthew

Well.... NEXT TIME you'll know to always have adequate pre-roll on your footage.
THIS TIME, first, change the inpoint on the batch capture that contains the offending portion to a place where you can reliable capture the clip you need. Then do a capture now of the head of the tape up until the new in point of that clip. Be sure to give yourself adequate overlap so you don't lose any frames.
Does that make sense?

  • Can't Batch Capture 24p Footage

I recently crossgraded to Final Cut 5.1 (now using the most recent version, 5.1.4) and my JVC BR-HD50 deck seems to be having issues when it tries to cue the tape for batch capture in 24 frames. All of the settings on the deck are as they were before, when I could batch capture 30p footage, but I haven't yet been able to batch capture anything shot on 24p. Capture Now works fine but is very tedious when importing a lot of footage.
    Appreciate any suggestions..
    Thanks.

  • Can't batch capture only needed media

    Hi,
I have many 7 minute sequences imported from 60 min dv tapes. The drive holding the media crashed and now when I try to re-importing the media by batch capturing directly from the sequence it re-captures the entire tape. I only need a generally half of this footage and I have several hundred sequences.
    Please help

Use the Media Manager to create new offline sequences with the unused media removed into a new project. Then you can batch capture the newly created clips.

  • Can you batch capture with Final Cut Express?

I'm new to Mac and FCE,
I'm used to running through my dv marking in and out points to create a batch and then hitting capture at the end and the computer rewinds and captures each in/out point. At this point, I usually start editing pics, etc for the video on another machine (videos are very short turnaround time).
Is this type of batch capture possible with final cut or does the user actually have to wait while the video is captured or better yet go to the end of each out point only to have the tape rewind for each clip captured. Seems like a very inefficient way of doing, so i'm guessing I am just unaware of how to do it. Please give me the steps if possible and of course all help is much appreciated.
    Thanks,

This is very irritating. The more I get into the Mac side of video the more I think I have been sold a bill of goods. Mac seems to be good for lots of stuff, but I have to say that iMovie and Final Cut Express seem to lack some pretty basic functionality found in Windows software like Ulead MSP.
I even asked this specific question to the Apple store personnel and they guaranteed me that batch capture is possible on FCE.
I have to ask myself at this point why am I considering paying 900.00 for FCP when a 300 dollar Windows Program does the same thing. I guess live and learn, but it sure helps when people tell the truth and don't make stuff up when they don't understand it.
I am very disappointed at all the Mac video hype I have yet to see the wonders.
    Thanks for the reply,

  • Why does Batch Capture not work?

I have FCP 5+ installed on my new MacBook 15" Pro. Sony GVD 1000 deck. Fire wire.
It works fine except that I can not batch capture. When I execute the capture the tape rewinds to the IN point and then just plays. It does not seem to recognize the OUT point of the clip.
Capture NOW works fine but anythng else does not.
I have re-installed the program with negative improvement.
    This system worked fune forever.
    Thoughts anyone?
    Ed

    Sorry,
    5.1, NTSC DV format.
This is a new install on a new machine. I also re-installed only FCP thinking that perhaps something went wrong with the original installl
I have just downloaded the last update 5.1.4 but have not tested it yet.
Also, although it will capture "NOW" the program will not recognize "play in point to out piont" button.
    Thanks.

  • Batch Capture Problems

I want to recapture a project, edited in SD as a HD project. Therefore I offlined all clips and recapture them in HD-Format. But the in and out of the clip was noct correct. Trying to use a exported batchlist in csv-Format I recognized that In and Out-Points of all clips differ from one to several frames. How can I batch capture material with correct timecode or export a correct batch capture list????
Thank you for instant help, because I have to finish HD editing on Monday
    Jörg

No it's several clips on the tape. It captures 2 frames of each and then moves on to the next. Never actually heard of Rescue before but I shall check it out.One thing I have just noticed is that all the offline clips logged and ready to be captured don't have any compressor details, Vid rate or data rate details. That has to have something to do with it but I don't know what?
    Thanks.

  • Clip names missing when trying to reconnect or batch capture

After dealing with a variety of hard drive issues, we have moved our project to a new system and I am in the process of trying to reconnect to old media as well as batch capture lost media files. I have run into two problems:
Problem 1: Many files, while they contain all proper loffing info when viewing in Final Cut, have lost their name when trying to reconnect media. When reconnecting media, the file name shows up as "". I have to manually search and reconnect the file. The problem is, if I try and reconnect from the clip in the browser, the corresponding clips in the timeline do not reconnect.
Problem 2: With clips where the media has been lost, I simply want to batch digitize from the original tapes. Again, while all the info is correct for each master and subclip I want to capture, when I actually go to batch capture, FCP is looking for the clip name "", so it starts telling me that I need to rename my clips since they all have the same name. You can see the problem with that.
Is there something corrupted in the project that is causing this? Will this keep happening? How can I batch capture without renaming all of my detailed clips? All suggestions appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Patrick

Ha! Why do you say that's the issue? What would cause that to happen exactly in your theory?
You might want to know that I just opened an old autosave from before we had hard drive problems and switched to a new system and I copied/pasted the exact problem files and they are properly batch capturing as I write this.
Somehow, I still don't feel I have any explanation.

  • Is there no way to set pre roll for dv batch capture?

    On FCP 5.0.4
I'm trying to redig much media from bins that have many clips created arroung TC breaks. many of these clips were created by FCP on initial capture whenever it encountered a tc break. seems funny that FCP is smart enough to create a new clips when it encounters tc breaks but then is unable to go back and recapture them because of lack of pre roll. is it the deck i'm using?

and there's no way to alter media start time within the bin is there? so to trim a clip i have to load it into a sequence, trim edit, then batch dig the sequence. yikes, i suppose i'll just relog everything. thanks for the help. < </div>
I was hoping not to post this:
Dub your footage to a new DV tape. This will give you completely continuous fresh timecode.
Of course, your clips' existing timecode entries are now meaningless. But if you're going to recapture anyway, make a dub first.

  • Deck pre roll settings for batch capture

    Thanks in advance.
I want to set the pre-roll into FCP 5 from a DV CAM deck to 1 second for batch capturing instead of the default 4 seconds. Where is the setting for this?
    Thanks again.

  • Batch capturing with little pre-roll?

Hi, I just got some tapes that are supposed to be recaptured to online an old project. The problem is when the tapes were captured they weren't given any pre-roll.
Does anyone know a good way to get the batch capture to work? I've tried changing the pre-roll/post-roll from 3 seconds to 1 second but no luck. I've also tried changing the media start on the offline clip but it won't let me. Any ideas?
    Thanks.
    Caleb

If you've moved the preroll to one second then I think your options might be spent. If you capture now then that should work only you'll probably have to recut them by hand unless you could trick FCP into a reconnet on the new files.

  • Can't find Clip that is choking Batch Capture

I'm getting a Timecode error saying Final Cut has reached the end of the tape when it tries to capture a particular clip. I can't delete the clip because it's not showing up in my browser window! In other words, it doesn't exist. Is there such a thing as invisible files in Final Cut Pro?
    K

The thing that's got me the most confused is when I go over to my batch capture list to see what the timecode indicates, the clip that it's having probelms with isn't listed. It doesn't exist. How do I fix a clip's timecode parameters if I can't find the clip listed anywhere. The only time I can see the name of the file (clip) is when batch capture is happening and the program lists the clip it's trying to capture. The name of the clip ends with a number. The last clp closest to it has the number CU 5-1. The program is trying to capture CU 5-2...but there is no CU 5-2!
    What's going on?

  • Batch Capture problems - can't read timecode

I want to log all my clips before capture and then just batch capture it all. Problem is, I get a message that the timecode can't be found.
How can I correct this problem?

I forgot nothing. My list is what is required to begin to log and batch capture. He didn't say it "started to capture but aborted midway through the first clip". He couldn't get started. We could go into a long list of tape based "do's and don'ts" but it didn't seem appropriate until we had some basic information.
We still don't know if the material was originally recorded on the playback cam and/or if he has ever successfully captured using this cam.
Don't you like playing 20 questions too? lol.

  • "No Video" error when Batch Capturing

I am getting a new error that I have not seen before when using Batch Capture in FCP. It cues the tape, starts the pre-roll and then spits out an error message that there is "no video". Of course, there is video.
The same thing does not happen when capturing one clip at a time nor does it happen if you capture live (hitting Capture "Now" in L&C window).
    Any thoughts?

I also don't want to keep paying $23 a month for software that is not 100%.
Software as complex as Premiere Pro will never be 100% bug free.
I'm also inclined to believe this is more of a system issue than a PP issue.  I don't recall other reports of this nature, and it works fine on my own system.
The only other thing I can think of to suggest is another FireWire port, possibly by adding a FireWire card to the system.  I've read that the chip makes a difference, so research over in the Hardware forum.

  • Won't do a batch capture?

I have been capturing footage all day and all of a sudden have come across an odd problem. I have just logged about 14 clips. They all have "media start" and "media end" times in the browser. The timecode is fine on the dv tape itself. (there are no jumps or weird things happening)
It will let me capture by selecting just ONE clip and going to:
    -Batch-
    -Selected Items in Logging Bin-
But it keeps giving me an error message when I try to do a batch capture of all 14 clips. It says that I may not have enough pre/post roll footage for the capture, but I do. And if I didn't it shouldn't be allowing me to capture clips one at time using the "batch" setting.
Not really sure why this is happening? If anyone has any ideas I would be really grateful! Thanks guys.
    -Chelsea

Normally it can restore from the latest backup . . . if it was a successful one.
Why are you doing this? Is your Mac running? Can you get to +Enter Time Machine?+
If so, note the date and time of the latest backup.
How are you doing the restore? Booting from your Leopard Install disc, selecting Utilities then +Restore from Backup?+ Note that the list of backups there may not be shown in your local time zone -- they're in Pacific time. Does this match what you saw via +Enter Time Machine+ (adjusted for any time zone difference)?
If you're doing something else, what?
