Can't batch capture only needed media

Hi,
I have many 7 minute sequences imported from 60 min dv tapes. The drive holding the media crashed and now when I try to re-importing the media by batch capturing directly from the sequence it re-captures the entire tape. I only need a generally half of this footage and I have several hundred sequences.
Please help

Use the Media Manager to create new offline sequences with the unused media removed into a new project. Then you can batch capture the newly created clips.

  • Can't batch capture, no pre-roll

I am trying to re-capture some footage. The problem is, I needed the beginning of the tape, so I originally captured from the start of the tape. Now, I can't batch capture because there is "not enough pre-roll" (not a direct quote, but that is the error it is giving me).
How can I fix this? Is there a way to change how long the pre-roll will take? Or is there a way to edit the in point on the clip?
    Thanks, like always!
    Matthew

Well.... NEXT TIME you'll know to always have adequate pre-roll on your footage.
THIS TIME, first, change the inpoint on the batch capture that contains the offending portion to a place where you can reliable capture the clip you need. Then do a capture now of the head of the tape up until the new in point of that clip. Be sure to give yourself adequate overlap so you don't lose any frames.
    Does that make sense?

  • Can't Batch Capture 24p Footage

I recently crossgraded to Final Cut 5.1 (now using the most recent version, 5.1.4) and my JVC BR-HD50 deck seems to be having issues when it tries to cue the tape for batch capture in 24 frames. All of the settings on the deck are as they were before, when I could batch capture 30p footage, but I haven't yet been able to batch capture anything shot on 24p. Capture Now works fine but is very tedious when importing a lot of footage.
    Appreciate any suggestions..
    Thanks.

  • Can you batch capture with Final Cut Express?

I'm new to Mac and FCE,
I'm used to running through my dv marking in and out points to create a batch and then hitting capture at the end and the computer rewinds and captures each in/out point. At this point, I usually start editing pics, etc for the video on another machine (videos are very short turnaround time).
Is this type of batch capture possible with final cut or does the user actually have to wait while the video is captured or better yet go to the end of each out point only to have the tape rewind for each clip captured. Seems like a very inefficient way of doing, so i'm guessing I am just unaware of how to do it. Please give me the steps if possible and of course all help is much appreciated.
    Thanks,

This is very irritating. The more I get into the Mac side of video the more I think I have been sold a bill of goods. Mac seems to be good for lots of stuff, but I have to say that iMovie and Final Cut Express seem to lack some pretty basic functionality found in Windows software like Ulead MSP.
I even asked this specific question to the Apple store personnel and they guaranteed me that batch capture is possible on FCE.
I have to ask myself at this point why am I considering paying 900.00 for FCP when a 300 dollar Windows Program does the same thing. I guess live and learn, but it sure helps when people tell the truth and don't make stuff up when they don't understand it.
I am very disappointed at all the Mac video hype I have yet to see the wonders.
    Thanks for the reply,

Not sure what you mean by "-30 high and -30 from the right". Isn't this supposed to be left-aligned?
    Anyway, try this one:

        nHorizAlign: app.constants.align.left, nVertAlign: app.constants.align.bottom, nHorizValue: 30 , nVertValue: 30});
If you want to customize it further, look up the addWatermarkFromText method in the reference files. All the parameters are specified there.

  • Batch Capture Sequence Only

    Hey,
I've been searching and cannot find any good info or a good process to batch capture only the media used in a sequence.
I just had an old client contact me and want to do some simple updating of an older video project- changing text graphics and replacing a few shots.
The project was longer- almost 15 minutes and was created/culled from a very large amount of source footage. All of that footage has long since gone offline.
I've tried multiple times and processes to batch capture the the media used only in the sequence, but cannot seem to figure out a way to convince FCP to capture only the footage used. It continues to try and capture ALL the source media in the entire project.
I know that on my old Avid system, all I had to do was select the sequence and click batch capture and it would do it with no problem (even grabbing handles on the new footage). It's frustrating that to do so on FCP is so difficult.
Is there anyone out there who has found a solution or developed a process by which they can batch capture only the media in a sequence. If so, please share it with me.
    Thanks,
    Mike

FCP can do the same as Avid's consolidation with the media manager, however when it's done, the original media has to still be online. (not your situation). I have gotten into the habit of creating a sequence that only references the media used in it, before I trash the original media because of this.
I'd suggest an XML or EDL export of the sequence, reimport that and batch it. This new sequence will only reference the media used in it, and you can add handles to it during the batch capture. If you use an EDL, you could take your titles and graphics and edit them from the original offline sequence to the new.

  • Clip names missing when trying to reconnect or batch capture

After dealing with a variety of hard drive issues, we have moved our project to a new system and I am in the process of trying to reconnect to old media as well as batch capture lost media files. I have run into two problems:
Problem 1: Many files, while they contain all proper loffing info when viewing in Final Cut, have lost their name when trying to reconnect media. When reconnecting media, the file name shows up as "". I have to manually search and reconnect the file. The problem is, if I try and reconnect from the clip in the browser, the corresponding clips in the timeline do not reconnect.
Problem 2: With clips where the media has been lost, I simply want to batch digitize from the original tapes. Again, while all the info is correct for each master and subclip I want to capture, when I actually go to batch capture, FCP is looking for the clip name "", so it starts telling me that I need to rename my clips since they all have the same name. You can see the problem with that.
Is there something corrupted in the project that is causing this? Will this keep happening? How can I batch capture without renaming all of my detailed clips? All suggestions appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Patrick

Ha! Why do you say that's the issue? What would cause that to happen exactly in your theory?
You might want to know that I just opened an old autosave from before we had hard drive problems and switched to a new system and I copied/pasted the exact problem files and they are properly batch capturing as I write this.
Somehow, I still don't feel I have any explanation.

  • Why does Batch Capture not work?

I have FCP 5+ installed on my new MacBook 15" Pro. Sony GVD 1000 deck. Fire wire.
It works fine except that I can not batch capture. When I execute the capture the tape rewinds to the IN point and then just plays. It does not seem to recognize the OUT point of the clip.
Capture NOW works fine but anythng else does not.
I have re-installed the program with negative improvement.
    This system worked fune forever.
    Thoughts anyone?
    Ed

    Sorry,
    5.1, NTSC DV format.
This is a new install on a new machine. I also re-installed only FCP thinking that perhaps something went wrong with the original installl
I have just downloaded the last update 5.1.4 but have not tested it yet.
Also, although it will capture "NOW" the program will not recognize "play in point to out piont" button.
    Thanks.

  • Batch Capture Problems

I want to recapture a project, edited in SD as a HD project. Therefore I offlined all clips and recapture them in HD-Format. But the in and out of the clip was noct correct. Trying to use a exported batchlist in csv-Format I recognized that In and Out-Points of all clips differ from one to several frames. How can I batch capture material with correct timecode or export a correct batch capture list????
Thank you for instant help, because I have to finish HD editing on Monday
    Jörg

No it's several clips on the tape. It captures 2 frames of each and then moves on to the next. Never actually heard of Rescue before but I shall check it out.One thing I have just noticed is that all the offline clips logged and ready to be captured don't have any compressor details, Vid rate or data rate details. That has to have something to do with it but I don't know what?
    Thanks.

  • Need Help Reconnecting P2 Media- Batch Capture not working

    Hey guys,
I used log and transfer and got all my P2 media into FCP 6. I did my edit and then when I opened FCP next time it said that a file had moved. Well, I went and watched Shane's P2 workflow video on creativecow and saw that he just right clicked on the media that needed to be reconnected and went down to batch capture and it all worked like a charm. Well, I could not get it to work. Then to worsen the matter, I deleted another file like Shane does in the demo and tried to reconnect that one using Batch Capture and once again- nothing. Now I have various clips that all need to be reconnected. When I right click and try and use Batch Capture it is giving me a dialog box that discusses a lack of deck, and I am not sure why I am getting a "deck" warning with P2 associated files. Please help- anyone!!!

Just so people don't think I am ignoring someone where my name is mentioned, I answered this on another forum.

  • Batch Capture is saying total media time of 3 hours 27 mins...

    ... for a 23 minute show.
I have collapsed the multi clips, gone to media manager, deselected include non active angles, choose to delete unused media with handles of 1 sec. Why is it still saying it needs 3 hours 27 mins? Please if anyone can help I'd be grateful.
This software is useless and I am sorry for sounding off, its not the place to do it but seriously I am in a broadcast environment and I am beginning to look stupid in front of my client.

The reason for that could be that you select everything in timeline and browser , try to select just the original clip before you made it a multi clip. Final cut some how calculates everything as soon a clip is a multi-clip or on the timeline the batch capture select the entire video.
I had the same problem, but then i just selected my original clip and it worked out fine. I only had some problems with the multi clip but apparently 6.0.3 fixed that ( not sure)

  • Help!  Batch Capture Changes My Logged Clips' Media Start & Media End

I'd be very grateful for any help on this.
I log a tape with about 40 clips ranging from 30 seconds to 4 minutes. I select the clips and start a batch capture. Everything appears to be capturing normally and I receive no error messages or dropped frame warnings - after my last clip is captured I get a "Successfully Captured" message.
However, as soon as I click "Finished," all of my clip media start's, media end's, and durations in the log window arbitrarily change to weird times. All my media start points are 26 frames too early (I've tripple-checked that "Add Handles" is indeed deactivated), and the media end points make no sense at all.
A clip that was once 44 seconds long is now only 12 seconds long, the media end point moved a whopping 34:03 too early. Another clip will become 2 seconds longer, the media start point still shifted back 26 frames, but with the media end now 31 frames too late. Checking the original files on my drive confirms that only these weird, unusable segments are what has been captured.
What complicates things is that I just discovered today that if I capture locally to my internal hard disk, the clips capture normally (the times remain unchanged). But if I set my capture scratch to my external hard drive (a LaCie F800 2-TB RAID-5 using Firewire-800), that's when the clips start changing themselves. I ran disk utility and found no errors on the drive, and have never had a problem with it or any part of my configuration until the last month or so... the only changes to my system being the regular use of Software Update.
On top of that, my colleague is experiencing a similar problem with batch capture changing his clip times, even though he is using a different computer (single-processor G5), a different video deck (Sony DHR-1000), and a different storage medium (Apple Xserve RAID).
So my question is: What is happening! The only thing I can think of is that perhaps some update has a bug - but I can't find anyone with a similar problem online.
Any help on this would be extremely appreciated! Thank you in advance for your advice.
    Dual 2.3GHz PowerPC G5 Mac OS X (10.4.4) Deck: JVC CU-VH1 / Storage: LaCie F800 2-TB RAID-5
    Dual 2.3GHz PowerPC G5 Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Here's an update on this. Both my colleague and I have confirmed that if we capture to an internal or external drive that is not a RAID FCPro batch captures just fine.
But, if the drive we are capturing to is a RAID (in my case a LaCie Biggest F800 and his case an Apple Xserve), then we get dropped frame reports and/or clip in's and out's changing after the batch capture is complete.
We even tried reformatting one of the xServe's and rebuilding it as non-journaled, it didn't solve the problem.
It seems impossible that we're the only ones to be experiencing this problem... does anybody have any help or suggestions!?

  • How do I capture tape-based media to my external hard drive?  There is only one firewire 800 port on the back of my I mac.  The manual says to import tape footage directly into fcpx, but then I lose my external hard drive.   thanks for your help.

In FCP X How do I capture tape-based media (hdv clips)- which I want to import-to my external hard drive?  There is only one firewire 800 port on the back of my I mac.  The FCPX manual says to import tape footage directly into final cut, which works, but then I lose  my external hard drive    Do I  have to import it into an event, then copy it over to an external hard drive?  On Larry Jordan's tutorial, he has 3 external hard drives that show up on his monitor WHILE he imports his tape based media.  How is that done?  I can only get either the camera to appear OR my external hard drive.   thanks for your help.

Thanks for your response, but that doesn't solve the problem.  Yes, the LaCie hard drive has 2 firewire ports-
I have always done what you suggest (works fine in FCP7), but in FCPX when I do that the camcorder icon
does not appear.  It only shows up when I DIRECTLY import the footage via firewire.  ????

  • Batch Capture Changes Media Start, End, and Duration

Hello all... For some reason, when I batch capture from an imported batch list in FCP 4.5, the program changes the media start, end, and duration just slightly once the capture has completed. Does anyone know why this might be occurring?

OK... I don't believe it has to do with drop frame or non-drop frame issues, and here's why... I ran a series of tests.
The footage was originally shot with two cameras, an A Cam and a B Cam, which were Jam Synced together. The original A Cam tapes were log and captured normally. But for the B Cam tapes, we exported a batch list to excel, performed a rename function where _B was added to all file names and reel names, and brought the data back into FCP by importing a Batch List at 29.97.
For the tests, I experimented with only one clip. First, I noted the timecode for the media start and media end when the file was uncaptured. Next, I placed the A Cam Tape in the deck and did a batch capture on the one clip. The program changed the media start and end times upon hitting ok. Here were the results of the first test:
    LOGGED: MS (05:50:39:26) ME (05:51:41:01)
    CAPTURED A CAM: MS (05:50:39:17) ME (05:51:41:07)
Then, I undid the capture so that the timecode would revert back to the precaptured state. I placed the B Cam tape in the deck and ran the capture again, on the same clip, in Batch Capture mode. The program changes the media start and end yet again, but this time, changed it in a different way:
    LOGGED: MS (05:50:39:26) ME (05:51:41:01)
    CAPTURED B CAM 1st Attempt: MS (05:50:39:16) ME (05:51:41:06)
So then I undid the capture again to revert back to the logged settings, and put the EXACT same tape in the deck, and ran the batch capture in exactly the same way. This time however, FCP didn't change anything. It logged the clip correctly. I tried it yet again, in the same way, and it did it perfectly again:
    LOGGED: MS (05:50:39:26) ME (05:51:41:01)
    CAPTURED B CAM 2nd Attempt: MS (05:50:39:26) ME (05:51:41:01)
    CAPTURED B CAM 3rd Attempt: MS (05:50:39:26) ME (05:51:41:01)
So I ask again... what is up with FCP 4.5?

  • Rman-08137 can't delete archivelog because the capture process need it

When I use the rman utility to delete the old archivelog on the server ,It shows :Rman-08137 can't delete archivelog because the capture process need it .how to resolve the problem?

It is likely that the "extract" process still requires those archive logs, as it is monitoring transactions that have not yet been "captured" and written out to a GoldenGate trail.
Consider the case of doing the following: ggsci> add extract foo, tranlog, begin now
After pressing "return" on that "add extract" command, any new transactions will be monitored by GoldenGate. Even if you never start extract foo, the GoldenGate + rman integration will keep those logs around. Note that this GG+rman integration is a relatively new feature, as of GG 11.1.1.1 => if "add extract foo" prints out "extract is registered", then you have this functionality.
Another common "problem" is deleting "extract foo", but forgetting to "unregister" it. For example, to properly "delete" a registered "extract", one has to run "dblogin" first:
    ggsci> dblogin userid <userid> password <password>
    ggsci> delete extract foo
However, if you just do the following, the extract is deleted, but not unregistered. Only a warning is printed.
    ggsci> delete extract foo
<warning: to unregister, run the command "unregister...">
So then one just has to follow the instructions in the warning:
    ggsci> dblogin ...
    ggsci> unregister extract foo logretention
But what if you didn't know the name of the old extracts, or were not even aware if there were any existing registered extracts? You can run the following to find out if any exist:
    sqlplus> select count(*) from dba_capture;
The actual extract name is not exactly available, but it can be inferred:
    sqlplus> select capture_name, capture_user from dba_capture;
    <blockquote>
    CAPTURE_NAME CAPTURE_USER
    ================ ==================
    OGG$_EORADF4026B1 GGS
    </blockquote>
In the above case, my actual "capture" process was called "eora". All OGG processes will be prefixed by OGG in the "capture_name" field.
Btw, you can disable this "logretention" feature by adding in a tranlog option in the param file,
    TRANLOGOPTIONS LOGRETENTION DISABLED
Or just manually "unregister" the extract. (Not doing a "dblogin" before "add extract" should also work in theory... but it doesn't. The extract is still registered after startup. Not sure if that's a bug or a feature.)
    Cheers,
    -Michael
