Besides, disk1 had another windows boot partition, but it disappeared. My system is OS X 10.10.2. Help please.

I can't also select this disk as time machine destination at the same time. Please Help.

  • How can I boot to a fakeRAID -Raid0 set drive from a non-raid hdd

    Hi all,
First of all, my English is bad and I hope I can explain it what my problem is. Secondly, I need your expert help with my problem right now.
I'll just layout some hardware information and some history before I start. Currently, my motherboard has 3 hdd controllers which are:
    1) Intel - 6 ports --> contains 2 sets of RAID drives = 2 x 60gb SSD (boot drive) and 2 x 500gb HDD (data drive) both in RAID 0
    2) Jmicron - 2 ports --> 1 port is used by the DVDROM
    3) Marvell - 2 ports --> I don't use these ports as they are slow and are so bad - currently disabled in BIOS
HISTORY: Before, my 2 x 60gb SSDs (RAID 0) contained Arch 64 + Windows 7 64 with Grub as the main bootloader. I remembered having a hard time setting up intel fakeraid with Arch linux + Win7 dual boot before, but fortunately, with your help, I found the solution and I've been using it ever since until today.
NOW is kind of a different issue. I bought a new 60gb SSD (just one). I totally reformatted everything with my 2 x 60gb SSD Raid 0 and I decided to just use that exclusively for windows, still in RAID 0. My brand new SSD will ONLY have Arch64 on it. So I installed Windows 7 first on my Raid SSD set. I plugged my new SSD to the Jmicron port so I can take advantage of AHCI. I don't want to mix my new SSD to the Intel Controllers since its not RAID anyway. Anyway, I installed Arch 64 on the new SSD in the JMicron Port fine.
Now here comes the problem, I set the Jmicron port where the Arch is installed to be the primary boot in the BIOS (since GRUB is there) and I can't boot to Windows! It gives me an error that It can't find the target drive (Win7 in the Raid 0 - intel ports). I've tried modifying the menu.lst and trying so many combinations and It still fails. Of course, I can boot to Arch fine since the drive is independent. It looks like grub legacy can't boot to fakeRaid drives if its not installed on that same drive.
Can you give me advice on how to fix this issue?
Also, I was just thinking, is there a 3rd party Windows Bootloader, that can be installed in Raid 0, that can pick up Linux and boot from it. I was thinking of just making the Windows 7 as primary boot in BIOS, with a 3rd party bootloader, then just boot to Arch.
    Thank you!

Yes, I have redirected my User folder to the D: drive.
I know that some shared components must reside on the C: drive; that's fine. I just don't have room for the entire installation on there.
The real issue here is that, when a drive other than C: is selected as the destination, the CS6 package installs into a broken state every time, out of the gate, on my system. Some components get installed to D: and some to C:, but the various components of the programs seem confused about what exists where, as shown below:
I select a folder on D: as the destination folder for the install, and here is what I get:
64-bit versions of the package -- Program files are installed to the D: drive as specified, but attempting to start them results in a configuration error message stating that the program must be uninstalled and reinstalled, and lists "Error code: 1".
32-bit versions of the package -- Program files are installed to the C: drive against what I specified. The shortcuts installed in the Start menu for the 32-bit versions point to the locations where these program files SHOULD be, on the D: drive. If the Adobe folder containing the program files is copied over to the correct location on D:, these programs function normally with no errors.
I have the 32-bit versions working by copying the program files from C: to D:. I just want to get the 64-bit versions working as well.
Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated; I'm really looking forward to testing the CS6 suite on my system!

  • Can't boot properly in UEFI mode

    Hi!
After enabling "windows 8 feature" and booting in uefi only mode, no boot device is detected anymore. The efi shell comes up after the bios has started and I can't boot into windows. I tried a clear cmos but it didn't work. I have a Z87-GD65 (latest 1.11 or 1.1B bios) and my sata devices are a crucial mx100 ssd (with windows 8.1 64-bit), western digital black hdd and asus dvd reader. I'd like to be able to boot in uefi normally. Thanks for your help!

  • Mac Mini (2011) can't boot, no screen display.

Hi, my mac mini (2011) finally won't startup today.
It was since two weeks ago, the mini goes freeze very frequently, I discovered that the fan speed was always below 2000rpm, meantime, the CPU temp was around 80-90 degree, it is around 25 degree in the room, last Friday I installed a software named smcfancontrol, which can manually speed up the fan, and it seems better, and the computer runs faster, I think the CPU is running in full speed.
Today, I opened a video to watch, after about ten minutes, the computer goes freeze again, and of course I force powered it down by pressing the power button on the back, then the tragic came:
    - when I try to boot up the machine, the front light turns on, then off with a "ka" sounds like the hard drive shutting down(force powering it down)
    - after around two seconds, the light goes on again, and the fan smoothly goes to full speed, there is nothing shows up on screen, as well as no apple boot up sound.
    - I tried to reset smc (power down, unplug power cable, wait 15 seconds, plug in power cable, wait 5 seconds, power on), no luck.
    - I tried to reset pmu (at least internet says it's pmu, it seems apple website did not mention how to reset pmu on mac mini, power down, hold power button for five seconds, power on), no luck
    - I also tried to unplug the memory, try with every single one to boot, no luck
    - last Friday, when I can still boot up the computer, I thought there might too much dust, I removed the fan and cleaned it up, it looks a small piece of plastic on the fan plug were damaged, but the smcfancontrol app still can control its speed, therefore I think the fan is OK.
    - during many retry, there was one time, the fan goes full speed at startup, with no front light off,(my current status is fan goes to full speed gently).
    - the computer is connected with an AV amplifier, then output to a plasma TV, when the computer is powered off, the TV displays a background of amp, when I startup the computer, although no video output from computer, the TV goes to a "No Signal" status, I dont's think this is related to my problem.
the computer is out of warrentee, but bought only for less than two years... I really want it back to work, can someone help me? many thanks!
wish you all have a good day.

Hard to troubleshoot when you can't turn on the computer on any more.  One option is to bring it to an Apple store to have them look at it.  They will tell you what is wrong and how much it will cost to fix.  I have never heard of them charging for a diagnostic and an estimate.
If your CPU was running hot all the time and your fan had small plastic pieaces, in my opinion, something got fried.  The mini is so compact, that the excessive heat may have also over heated your hard drive causing thd "ka" sound.
If you decide to continue in to use a Mac Mini as a media server, may I would suggest using iStat to monitor it.  I use iStat on my 2011 Mac Mini Media Server to monitor CPU usage, all sensors, and internet incoming and outcoming.

  • I need help with my Macbook Pro... I can't boot it up because of a Kernal Panic.

Like the title says... I know there are some computer savy people especially with Macs on here so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Okay I will try my best to describe my problem...
I believe it was either Saturday or Sunday that the problem first happened.
I was watching a video on a site and I don't remember if I expanded to full screen, but the computer like froze up and a dark grey curtain fell over the screen that was somewhat translucent and this message popped up.
So since it's a 2008 MBP I have no restart button so I decide to hold down the power button until it shuts off and then turn it on again... same message appears... I do this like 3-5 more times and still the same thing.  So I decide to let it sit for a while, which turned into a day because I had to go to work, and while at work I started looking for solutions.
Came home and tried a solution that work... temporarily... I held the X button upon startup and it worked and I then ran start up disk like it said to on the troubleshooting I learned from Google.  Thought all was well... so I decide to venture back to said site that's just like flash players like youtube, but with more geared towards young adolescences.  Things were good for a little and then the problem started happening again and more frequent.
I kept doing the hold X thing and it work like 1-2 more times and now that Kernel Panic screen doesn't go away at all and I can't boot up the MBP at all.
I tried doing the thing where you hold X at start up... no luck!
I tried holding down shift at start up to boot into safe mode and it still doesn't work.
I tried some PRAM thing where you hold down cntrl + option + p + r and that didn't work.
I don't even know what operating system I'm on because the MBP won't boot up for me to see the system info.
Anyone ever had this problem or know how to fix it... I'm not covered under warranty anymore so before I take it into Apple and the use the KY on me I figured I ask on here to see if anyone can help me remedy this problem.
Thanks any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Mavericks can only boot in safe mode

In can only boot my Imac 27' (end of 2009) in safe mode.
The problem started in Lion, when the computer suddenly froze.
I upgraded (in safe mode) to Mavericks 10.9.2, took away all Launch Agents and Daemon that are not Apple (both in System and User's), done all the permission repairs, reset memory, fsck and turn the plug off the computer. The only thing I was not able to do is the hardware test (for some reason, the command + D to access the internet testing is not working). I have no external devices or cables attached.
My 2TB hard drive is divided in 3 partitions. I have got 2 user accounts.
Even with all this, I can only start in safe mode.
Here is a copy of the log. If anyone can help, I would be grateful !

I have tried a few other tricks from the experts in the discussion boards (including removing all preference files that are non apple, remove all non apple extensions), still no way to start up the computer other than safe boot.
I would like to try and turn off bonjour, as it seems like a MDNSResponder Error. But need a green light from any of you experts.
I am posting the latest system log (on this one, I forgot to unplug the printer)
    Please help !!!

  • Can't boot iBook with install disc

    Hi All,
I've inherited an old clamshell iBook that freezes every time I try to boot from the install disc.
The iBook came with 0S9.2 installed and everything seemed to be working OK. I then tried to upgrade it using a retail Jaguar disc and it froze on booting up. Now it won't even load OS9 but instead gives me a blinking folder with a question mark.
When I try to install from the Jaguar boot disc, I get the Apple logo and then it freezes right there. I tried zapping the P-Ram a few times and that didn't fix it. I tried holding Option key when loading and got to the screen where it lists boot options. I chose OS X and it after the logo comes up, it freezes.
Have also tried re-seating and completely removing the RAM. No difference.
When I go into verbose mode I get some kind of kernel panic error freeze and the keyboard won't let me input anything.
I reached the open firmware screen and it says Powerbook2,1 4.1.7f4 so I think that means my firmware is fine for OS X.
I unfortunately don't have access to an OS 9.2 disc so can't boot into that from disc. I think my 9.2 system folder needs to be re-blessed or something like that but have no way to reach it.
    Any suggestions?

Ok, well, I believe that in order to re-bless the OS 9 system folder, you need the OS 9 CD. (I'm not an OS 9 expert, but that's what I've seen online).
However, if you install 10.2 (or 10.3) on the computer, it should boot right into it and you don't even "need" OS 9 any more.
I'm starting to think you have a hardware problem of some kind, and the first place to check is the RAM. OS X is more finicky than OS 9 was with RAM, so do you have another memory module you could install to check? Or perhaps another clamshell (like was suggested) to try your RAM in?
Do you have an Apple Hardware test disk? My next suggestion would be to get one and to run the test and see what (if any) hardware is having problems.
And one more thought: if you can boot using the 10.3 disk, try running Disk Utility and repairing your disk a couple of times. Maybe there's a problem in your hard drive.

  • Can't boot from external HD with Leopard on MacBook Pro or PowerBook

I can't boot from an external HD with 10.5.5 Leopard on either my MacBook Pro or my PowerBook G4. I had a PowerBook G4 from which I could boot from either an external FW400 drive or an external FW800 drive. At some point, I stopped being able to boot from any HD, but I'm not sure if it was after upgrading to Leopard or not? Recently I just bought a MacBook Pro 15" and transferred all my files over from the PowerBook to the MacBook Pro during the install. However, even with the new computer, still cannot boot from an external drive. I have Leopard 10.5.5 running on both the external HD and the internal HD.
Is this a common problem? Anybody know how to fix it?
    Thanks!

That probably wasn't very clear was it? I have several ext. HD's, some with bootable systems and some just backups. One bootable disk was made with CopyCloner and the other was a clean format and only had an original install of the OS just to use for an emergency boot. They both booted just fine. Then at some point, they stopped being bootable. I have used the Control Panel "Startup" and also used the Option key boot and picked the bootable disk. Neither one boots anymore. It started doing this on the old PowerBook and then also refused to boot on the MacBook Pro. This is not the problem with the HD since it happens with any bootable HD. Something is going on at the system level and it was transfered from the PowerBook to the MacBook.
    Thanks,
    Bill

Which keyboard layout you were using? German, French ... I suppose your layout is reset to the default: US and you are unable to find the "?" or "/" ...
Please have a look into the keyboard viewer, to see how the layout of your keyboard is actually.

  • Can't boot G5 even from OS install disk. Help?

I've trolled the message boards 25 pages deep and searched all the "Can't boot my G5" threads and still haven't found anyone describing what my machine is doing so thought I'd start a new thread in the hopes someone can help me out.
Ok I have a G5 dual processor machine. (Power PC chip, not Intel) Things went bad when I tried to do an Archive and Install of Leopard (OS 10.5) The install looked as normal until I got to one minute left on the install. At that point the install never progressed. I thought maybe it was doing some behind the scenes processing and decided to leave it over night. The next day my machine was still hung on that One minute left. So obviously it was a failure. Of course now the problem is I have an install that never completed of the OS and so that partition is, I assume, unbootable. Wiped away the Tiger OS and did a 99% install of Leopard. So I had to shut down by holding the power button.
I think to myself, "No worries I can just boot from my 2nd partition holding down the Option key to select it on the boot up screen". I always keep a partition with an OS on it for times like these. So I reboot, hold option key, select my other partition, things look OK. I get the grey screen with the Apple logo and I get the wheel animation turning. (Not beachball of death but the typical circular, almost sun ray configuration thing) At this point, usually the screen will go black for a moment before the desktop loads. However, in my case once the screen goes black after the load screen, it stays black. Now let me say the monitor does NOT turn off. There is a definite difference when I manually turn the monitor off. When off it's truly black. But this is like a power on black, not true black. (If you need me to explain this better feel free to ask me to clarify)
So the untouched, pristine Tiger partition boot is a No Go. I figured I'd then give up on trying to put Leopard on my desktop machine (I use it on my laptop) and reinstall the original OS and system software from the system disk that came with my G5. I boot machine holding down eject button, place the disk in, close the drive door and shut down again by holding power button. Reboot holding C key and the same routine happens with booting from the disk. Gray Apple logo screen, sun ray circle moving, screen goes black on the attempted transition to desktop .. but stays black. I also tried booting with my Disk Warrior disk to no avail. Same thing happens. (Also tried booting from disks by selecting them manually from booting with Option key down) At first I wondered if it was a monitor issue. That maybe my desktop was up but there was an issue with the signal being passed to the monitor on the resolution jump. Thought perhaps hitting the Eject key on the keyboard when I had attempted to boot from the partition (not from disk on this test) would tell me if it was a monitor issue. If it was a monitor issue, the disk tray should open. But alas, no.
So since I cannot boot normally from any partition or disk I decided to boot into single-user mode.
I did the fsck -fy thing and it told me everything was ok. I had also previously installed applejack and I ran that and short of correcting a few permissions and dumping some unneeded caches it came back with a system OK.
At my wits end I booted into target disk mode and ran Disk Warrior on both the original half installed OS partition and the back up emergency boot up partition from my laptop. Again, everything OK. Hoped against hope that I could actually install an OS onto my G5 from my laptop but I was only given the option of being able to do it from my laptop with the Leopard disk and it would only allow me to do it if I used Disk Utility to completely format that drive first. No, thanks.
Re-attempt to boot G5. Failure. So now I turn to hardware. Disconnected everything beside the keyboard and mouse. Try again. Fail. Pulled a couple sticks of Crucial memory out of the machine and left the stock RAM. No dice. Pressed the small power unit reset button under the RAM slots. No change. Zapped the PRAM. Still nothing. Try to boot in Safe mode holding down shift key. Doesn't work.
It seems to me if I can't even get the machine to boot from the Install disk that there is something going on that is much more major than software issues.
Bad motherboard? Any ideas? Because I'm all out of ideas.

Brother, Sound74, I thought I was the only one pulling the hair out of my chest one by one the past two days. Your situation is very similar to mine, and I'm just as clueless as you are. I started getting kernel panic screens, then nothing on boot, until finally I brought it to the local genius bar. They ran all the usual software/hardware tests, updated Tiger to 10.4.11, recommended I buy Leopard and do an erase-install. My computer, of course, was working absolutely fine by this point. I bought Leopard, came home, backed everything up, then tried to install the new OS. Like in your case, it just up and quit half-way through. Screen went black and a "No DVI Signal" message came on my display (it does this when I turn it on without first turning on the computer).
So I thought, well, maybe it takes a really long time to erase-install, and the monitor is just waiting for things to kick back in. I've always upgrade-installed before, so I couldn't tell if this was normal or not. But about half an hour later, my fans kicked in so fast I thought I had a P-51 Mustang taking off in my studio. I waited a bit more and finally force-shut-down my system. Not knowing what to expect, I nervously tried to re-boot.
Nothing. Zip. I can't safe boot, I can't boot from the installer disc, etc. The only thing I can do is the option-key thing whereby you choose the startup disc. And of course, it only gives the Leopard install disc as an option, because now the entire HD has been erased! But when I choose the Leopard disc, of course it doesn't work.
So I have a nice $3000 paperweight sitting in my studio. I guess I'll have to bring it back to the Mac store, where if it costs more than $300 to fix, I'm going to say screw it and put that dough toward a new iMac.
Sorry I couldn't provide any helpful info, but I just wanted you to know you're not alone in suffering the slings and arrows of outrageous technology.
Keep me posted on any solutions you discover, and I'll do the same.

  • Can't Boot from Snow Leopard Partition

I have a Macbook Pro from 2008. It previously just had one partition, with Lion on it.
I created a new partition for Snow Leopard
I installed Snow leopard from a retail disk on the second partition. The installation went fine, and I got the message at the end that the installation was successful, and to restart the computer.
When I restart it, it just goes to the gray Apple screen, with the spinning gear, and never gets farther than that. The gear is spinning.
I can still boot successfully into Lion. Once I booted into Lion, I chose the Snow Leopard partition as the Startup Disk, but the same thing happens - just the gray Apple screen and spinning gear. I've let the machine sit for half an hour in that state, but it still does nothing but the spinning gear.
Any ideas on why I can't boot successfully into Snow Leopard and how I can fix it?
    Thanks.

I already knew that I'm free to follow my own course, but thanks for giving me your permission (???)
And would knowing the original OS of the machine make any difference in your "advice"? If it was originally Leopard, would that make it any different than if it was Tiger? Answer: No, because you don't understand the problem, and you don't know how to fix it.
    Thanks.
If anyone ACTUALLY KNOWS anything about this problem, please post, as many others will benefit.
If you DON'T ACTUALLY KNOW anything about the problem, either DON'T POST HERE, or else qualify your information to indicate that you are guessing. I'm open to suggestions and speculation, but could you please CHECK YOUR EGO AT THE DOOR, and tell people that you are GUESSING what the problem might be. You don't need to act like you are some great authority and try to make your random guesswork look like an established fact.
If you were walking in New York City, and you ask someone how to get to Carnegie Hall, but the person doesn't even know where Carnegie Hall is, would you rather:
    1) Have the person tell you a bunch of random wrong information that could cause you wander aimlessly for hours?
    OR
    2) Have the person politely tell you they don't know where Carnegie Hall is, and that you should ask someone else?
IF YOU DON'T KNOW THE ANSWER, THEN DON'T ANSWER.
OR IF YOU ARE GUESSING OR MAKING A SUGGESTION, THEN QUALIFY YOUR STATEMENTS SO PEOPLE KNOW YOUR LEVEL OF UNDERSTANDING.
YOU DON'T HELP BY GIVING WRONG INFORMATION. YOU DON'T HELP BY STATING YOUR GUESSWORK AS A FACT.
Why do people not have the slightest amount of common sense here? Are you getting paid to just post random wrong info here or something?

  • Can't boot P35 NEO2-FR. (LEDs: R-R-G-G)

Hi all, I'm new at this forum.
Today I changed a CPU and updated BIOS to v1.6
I was able to boot my board without any problems.
Then I realized that CPU voltage showed different values, so I thought I should clear CMOS.
What I've done is, remove CMOS battery, then push CMOS clear button, put the battery back, then reboot.
Now I can't boot my board AT ALL.
I just can see that at diagnosis LEDs around CMOS clear button, (from the top) 2 LEDs are red and 2 LEDs are green.
The manual said that it means decompressing BIOS image to RAM for fast booting.
If I can't boot my board with those LEDs shown, does it mean the BIOS is broken?
    Please help me guys..

    Jack The Newbie,
Thanks for your help but it doesn't make any changes..  :(
Do I have other options to make it bootable?
or, is the BIOS broken? hmm, I have no idea.
    Diag LEDs are R-R-G-G.
I guess the BIOS is somehow related, so the BIOS might be broken.
But is it possible that BIOS could be broken if I just remove the battery, push the CMOS-clear button, put the battery back?
    Huh..  :(

  • Can't boot from IDE hard drives

Just purchased a barebones system with a KEN NEO Platinum board running an AMD 64 3400+. Tried to install old Maxtor hard drive (40 gb) into new system and a blue screen pops up for less than one second and reboots PC. I can’t read the blue screen but I believe it is saying there is a hardware conflict.
What is causing this. The CMOS recognizes the HD but it can't boot from it. I’ve got two of these units and both have the same problems. I put the drive back into the original PC and it works fine.
    Need help desperately.

When I connect the cables, they show which is the slave and which is the master. In the CMOS, everything looks fine. I've noticed alot of people are having difficulty installing used and new hard drives. I've been working with PC's for quite a while and I've never had this much trouble. I was hoping there was something I missed in the CMOS settings.

  • Can't boot if SATA Config changed from IDE to RAID

My goal is to create a non-bootable RAID1 mirror with two 320GB extra disks (plugged into SATA 5&6).  The boot disk is a Corsair 120MB SSD.  The manual that came with the A75A-G55 board says to use raid, first change the SATA Configuration from IDE (the default) to RAID.
Once the RAID selection is made, a new option for Legacy ROM or UEFI Driver shows up.  I left the choice at Legacy ROM.  Saved settings and exited.  During the reset then something new pops up quickly having to do, I suppose with the RAID config, then the regular POST pops through, but then can't boot to Windows.
When I went back to change the BIOS SATA Config back to IDE, I noticed that none of the SATA ports show drives.  After setting the SATA config back to IDE, everything seems to go back to normal.  I must be missing something significant, but the instructions in the manual that came with the board are pretty simple.  On the other hand, the manual doesn't say anthing at all about the SATA configuration options.
I checked the RAID FAQ, but it seems to be oriented to NVIDIA.  Nothing there about AMD raid that I could see and no mention of bios settings that looked like this.  I have come across mention of an AMD raid manager software (RAIDXpert?) in some other browsing.  Should I get that and use it, or will I still have to straighten out this IDE/RAID thing first?
    Thank you for your help,
    John

As far as I can tell, the A75A-G55 does not support RAID with WindowsXP no matter what the chips are and sales literature says.  I've been running around with this too long and still have nothing to show for it.
If anyone has actually been successful with installing a "data" RAID (not a boot disk) on this motherboard I'm all ears, but I don't think such a critter exists.
Here is what I've done tonight.
Set BIOS to RAID, Legacy ROM, save & exit
Cntl-F to enter Option ROM utility
All drives show up, use the utility to create an LD named FamRm_Array from two 320GB drives, save and reboot.
    Windows doesn't boot, resets
    Del key to enter bios
Main tab shows no SATA drives - all are "Not Present"
Boot tab shows boot option for hard disk as "Hard Disk: FamRm_Array"
(no sign of the Corsair boot disk)
Advanced tab - selected SATA Mode - IDE, save & exit
Got the "Windows didn't start last time" screen, selected "start normally" and Windows came up OK.
Checked the status of the disks with Disk Manager and both 320GB disks show up individually as unallocated, no indication of an array.
Tried again with reboot, selected RAID in bios, save & exit
F11 to enter boot menu - both the Corsair and FamRm_Array are options.  Picked Corsair.
    Can't boot to windows, reset
Cntl-F to option ROM, array still configured OK, escape and reset
Del to BIOS again - No SATA disks shown, boot tab shows Hard disk:FamRm_Array
F11 to boot menu again, pick Corsair again.
    Still can't boot
Del to bios again, boot tab still shows HardDisk:FamRm_Array, no sign of Corsair as any option or priority.
Changed back to SATA Mode IDE, Windows boots fine.
Giving up on a disk array with this board and software.  Either it just doesn't work, or the process required is so mysterious and undocumented that the effect is the same - doesn't work.
I'll check back a few times over the next few days to see if anyone points out a major flaw in what I did, but I have no real hope it will ever work.
    John

  • Can't boot to external drive from g5

Hi, I have a new 1TB firewire 800 external drive. I have 1 G5 with leopard 10.5.8 on it, but it had tiger on it at one point.
I installed tiger onto this external drive (10.4.4) However, after installing, I can't boot to the external drive.
I have tried going to the startup disk- it shows up in the options, but then just reboots back to my internal HD. I have also tried holding the option key down on restart, but the external disk doesn't show up.
Please help- I have put a lot of time and effort into this.

  • Can't boot WinXPpro on K8N Neo3 gold

Setting up new mobo and cpu, keeping all old peripheral hardware, including hard drive with XP Pro.
Old board was ASUS A7S333 with SIS745 chipset, new board is K8N Neo3 gold (MS-7135 ATX) with nVIDIA nForce4-4X chipset and AMD K8 cpu.  The hard drive is a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus8 40Gb with two partitions, one an old WinME and the other is WinXP pro.
The system posts, default selects the WinXP, and tries to boot the os but fails with a stop code of 7B "Inaccessible boot device".  The drive itself is fine, ran chkdsk diagnostics, even connected it as secondary drive on third machine and it comes up ok.
Reading other forum topics it appears that the change of chipsets from old mobo to new requires a driver change for the IDE controller.  One forum topic "Can't boot Win2K SP4 on K8N Neo2" indicates that the Recovery console helped to fix the problem by reverting back to a plain vanilla version of a Microsoft driver but there were no explicit instructions on how to do this.  I can get the Recovery console up from my XP installation CD but its not obvious what to do from there.
It took me a long time to get the WinXP system configured, patched, tweaked, apps installed, patched.....  so I'd hate to start all over.
Anybody know how to pull this off?
    thx

    Hi there,
You can do this removal in the old system where it used to work and in safe mode.
