Can't bridge airport express network

I want to join the wireless network of my neighbour (with his permission of course). He's using a Airport Express, as well as me. I want to set up my AE as a bridge from his network. Does he need to set his AE in Bridge mode before I can join? Or can I refigure his AE using my AirPort Utility?

Both me and his Airport Express are 802.11g, does that change anything in respect to what you wrote?
Unfortunately, this changes everything. Your only option is to configure both AirPort Express devices to Participate in a WDS Network. While this will provide more wireless coverage, there are some significant negatives with this older technology:
1) The configuration of devices is difficult for most users. It is easy to make a mistake and hard to recover when one occurs. In most cases, you basically have to reset the Express back to factory default settings and start over again
2) The bandwidth of the network will drop by 50%, so the network will effectively lose half of its current speed. This might be OK for general Internet browsing, but any downloads, updates, etc are going to take twice as long as before.
I'm not recommending the WDS setup, but if you want to try it anyway, Apple's step by step instructions are here:

Yes. You can directly connect an 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) using an Ethernet cable. The AXn would then just need to be configured as a bridge to allow the D-Link to continue to provide both NAT & DHCP services for all network clients connected to either router.
In this configuration, the AXn would broadcast a wireless network for your wireless network clients to connect to.

This works, but there are some good days and some bad days where there are dropouts in the music. I have recently run Cat6 cable to my HT from my router next to my MacPro. Yes, you can configure an AirPort Express Base Station (AX) as a standalone wireless router without Internet access for the purposes of providing a Wi-Fi network for streaming. Note that any computers that will be the host of that stream would need to connect to this AX's wireless network while doing so. They would not be able to be connected to two wireless networks simultaneously for both streaming AND Internet access.

Can't see Airport Express unit, nor Airport Express Setup in my Network Settings

I can see my Airport Express in the Airport Express Utility App, lights are all green, but I can't see the unit, nor see the Airport Express Setup section inside my Network Settings. I've been through the screenshots on line about how easy this is supposed to be to set up, but I cannot see the Express units at all. Just have your Airport Express "Join" your iPhone. It will share your Internet connection through its Ethernet port. I currently have an AppleTV connected via Ethernet to the Airport Express. With this setup I have wireless Ethernet AND wired LAN connection. I can even AirPlay to the AppleTV and have Internet at the same time. Haven't tried a switch/hub but see no reason why it wouldn't work. This proves to be very useful to create a wired network with Internet from a cellular device without Ethernet.

Apple does not specify a model number in their product information, but it is A1392 in the U.S. I do not know if Apple uses different model numbers in other countries.

In your instructions, you say to use the same encryption type as the router has set up. well, I am using the WEP 64 bit encryption and the Airport Utility does not have this...it has 40 bit. Is this a problem, or do I have to be using a the same type of encrytion ?
WEP is available in either 40 or 104-bit, but is usually "advertised" as either 64- or 128-bit respectively. For example, 64-bit WEP uses a 40 bit key (also known as WEP-40), which is concatenated with a 24-bit initialization vector (IV) to form the 64-bit RC4 traffic key. So, WEP 64 on the Linksys & 40-bit is equivalent.
What concerns me more is the loss of bandwidth performance you are experiencing when connecting the AX. When the AX is configured as a wireless client it is acting just like any other wireless devices (computer, laptop, printer, etc.) and not like another router. This should cause little or no bandwidth loss. True the more secure the wireless encryption used WPA2 vs. WEP, the more overhead is required for security, but the differences you are seeing seem excessive.
It is very possible that you may have some form of Wi-Fi interference in the immediate area that is preventing your Linksys from providing a good clean signal.
I suggest you perform a simple site survey, using utilities like the following to determine potential areas of interference, and then, try to either eliminate or significantly reduce them where possible:

o iStumbler, or
For PCs:
o NetStumbler

I have a Mac Pro OSx10.7.5, a Netgear router, A 1st gen Airport Express Model A1264 set up in Bridge Mode w/ LAN cable as Network 2 for Airplay, the iPad palys music and connects to the internet great through it. I want to extend Network 2 to another set of speakers in another room so I bought another AE A1264. "Like new"
So far I cannot get the computer to see the new AE at all. I have tried it wired to the router, wired to the Mac, wireless near the 1st AE, I've reset it and restarted multiple times. It just isn't showing up at all. ZIP. I get a slow blinking yellow light.
The Airport Utility "Configure Another"comes up with a Mac address I haven't seen before. I don't know if it's the new AE or not. In any case none of the passwords including " " for a password work. It spins and I get an error message that "An error occured while reading the configuration"
Even when it was new the first AE took some doing to be seen by my Mac which was plenty annoying since it should just pop up but it did eventually connect via LAN. Once I configured it it worked on my network.
These things have been a real pain. Please advise.

You need to begin by configuring the AEX to Join an existing network (Bridge Mode.) You can then connect to it using Wi-Fi, but the AEX will not extend your existing network.
If you can connect the AEX to your existing router using Ethernet, then you could use it to Create a new network. Otherwise, if you want to extend your existing network you will need to get a Wireless Access Point - WAP - from a non-Apple product like D-Link.

Airport Express network suddenly no longer visible - but only for one Mac..

My 20" iMac Core Duo can no longer see my Airport Express network. It happened yesterday after restarting the AE a few times.. (I do this and also restart the modem from time to time if the net connection stalls - or I want to boot of my housemate's PC from the network cause she's hogging bandwidth)..
Anyway.. The first restart caused it to not re-appear on the list of available networks, so I restarted again.. then it was fine - it came back. All good.
I reset it again this morning because the net connection was not meeting my expectation and now the iMac no longer sees the AE network.
I can connect to other Wi-Fi networks around me (there is a neighbour with no WEP) but cant see hide nor hair of my own network.
The puzzling thing is that my girlfriend's Mac Book, my other iBook G3 and my housemate's PC can all see it and use the network fine - as normal..
So what has happenned? And what do I need to do?
Between you and me ..This intel iMac has been a bit tempramental ever since I got it.. weird things like this happen to it from time to time.. never one thing that you can point at and say AHA! Faulty [something] but just weird stuff like this... Hmmmm..

Well, from reading some other posts, and trying my own experimenting, I have gotten it to work.
Deleting the keychain did nothing, manually connecting to the network by typing the name in etc.. nothing.
What DID work was using my G3 iBook (which could see the network) to use the Airport Administrator to change the channel from Automatic to manual - in this case channel 7 (a completely arbitrary choice).
The thing I cannot work out is why it had this issue in the first place. It worked fine for months then one day decided that it apparently didn't like automatic channel selection.
The problem is solved but the cause is still a mystery.
Hopefully though, this might help others with the same problem.

Macbook no longer detects Airport Express Network

I've been using my macbook to connect to my Airport express base station for my home wireless daily for like a year now. Today however, my macbook refuses to connect to the network. After a few scans it detects the network, then when I try to connect it brings up the "this network requires a WEP password" which I put in, and then the connection times out on every attempt.
I tried using the Airport Utility which fails to even detect the base station.
Yes I've restarted my MB, yes I've restarted the express/modem. Thing is, I'm connected to the same network right now on my iPhone which doesn't seem to have any problem.

Update: my macbook can connect to the wireless network at my university, but still not the airport express network.

AirPort Express Network Set-Up Help

Here is what I have:
- Two AirPort Express
- One iMac G4 700 MHz Running OSX 10.3.9 NO AirPort Card
- One PowerBook G4 768 MHz Running OSX 10.2.8 WITH Airport Card
- One 2WIRE 1701HG DSL Modem/Wireless gateway with 4 ethernet ports
- One "newish" USB printer
I want to be able to:
- roam around the house with my PowerBook
- stream tunes off my iMac to one at a minimum and maybe two home stereos
- share the USB printer to allow for printing from the PowerBook
Here is how I have working:
- I am ethernet wired from the iMac to the 2WIRE dsl Modem and that's how I am browsing now
- my USB printer is hard wired to my iMac
- I can browse from PowerBook with an AirPort connection to the 2WIRE gateway
- I can print from the PowerBook to the printer hooked to the iMac
How do I integrate the AirPort Express Base Stations?
Can the iTunes stream go down through the ethernet to the 2WIRE and then trhough the air to the AirPort Express? Or do I have to stream through the ethernet through the wired router side of the 2WIRE box and out the ethernet to the first AirPort Express, through the air and then into the second AirPort Express
I started configuring the new AirPort Expresses by connecting them via ethernet but find that once they are set up I can not see them to make configuration changes (but I can see them but not configure them from the PowerBook).
Of Course the problem lies with the 2WIRE device but how do I get around it?

You can configure both Airport Express devices as wireless clients to the existing wireless network created by the 2Wire wireless router. To set this up, follow the instructions posted here by David Lovell (which apply equally to Macs and PCs):

Airport Utility can't find Airport Express after setting up as repeater station

I wanted to extend my 2Wire-based wireless network into a specific room that never seems to be able to pick up the signal, and found the following instructions on how to do so on Apple's website:

Yes, you can do this two ways: If you can connect your airport express to your router via ethernet, then you will perform the following steps in the airport utility:
1. Select your airport express.
2. Select manual set up.
3. Under Wireless, select Participate in a WDS network
4. Enter your network name, radio mode, channel, and security
5. Under WDS, select WDS main
6. Check wireless clients
7. Add the MAC address of the router
8. Click update
That's it
Now, if you connect your airport express to your router wirelessly, all the steps are the same except for step 5. In this step, select WDS remote instead. Everything else is the same.
I followed those instructions exactly with my Airport Express and, after restarting, the amber light is flashing on and off continuously and the Airport Utility can't find the Airport Extreme base station. What the heck went wrong here?

Update:
I restarted the laptop I used to set up the AX as well as pushing the "reset" button on the AX (first time - pressed it for 1 second, Second Time - pressed and held for 15 seconds then let go). The Utility still isn't recognizing the base station.
I also upgraded the Utility's software to 5.5.3 right before I went through these steps, and now it's not recognizing the base station. ARGH.
Update #2: I plugged the AX into my laptop with an ethernet cable and the utility STILL can't detect it. This is ridiculous.
Update #3: Not 30 seconds after update #2, it FOUND the **** AX >.< I'm updating the firmware, but I still can't get it to work as a repeater station if I have to plug it into my laptop all the time JUST to get the Utility to recognize that yes, Virginia, there IS an Airport Extreme.
