Can't burn a CD at any speed with any program. So frustrating.

Hi everyone,
I have a Satellite M505 and my optical drive is HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GA10f. For a while I thought I just needed to try different kinds of CD-R's but now I have tried just about every brand there is, and no luck. I usually use iTunes and when I try to burn I get an error message, every time it's a different number. So then I tried to just drag the files into the CD drive window and let Windows burn them for me but this didn't work either. I checked the driver in the device manager and it tells me the driver I have is correct and up to date. I keep reading about firmware on the other forums, but I can't seem to find the right kind, and I don't quite understand what firmware is anyway. The drive reads CDs just fine and also plays DVDs. I haven't tried to burn a DVD but I assume it would not work.

From posts I've read all around the Internet, there does not seem to be a simple solution. The word "Medium" refers to Media (CD,DVD) So logically you'd think trying another brand CD would work, but you've tried that. Another alleged fix is reducing the write speed, and you've done that.
Other fixes that worked for a few people were cleaning the optical drive with a cleaning CD or gently spaying compressed air into the slot to clean out any dust buildup.
Searching these Forums will find a few threads on the topic (search "medium write error in iTunes")
Googling the same search criteria brings up a whole page.

Unless your iMac is still covered by AppleCare, get an external DVD burner.
You can get perfectly good ones from Amazon for less than $40.

I have been printing before. Next I upgraded to LR5.7.1 but the problem stays. Perhaps some adjustment is changed by me unintentionally, but I have no idea. Does anybody know what to check? Printing to file is also strange,the canvas only seems to accept A4, and crops any image relative to that size, so a 10x15 cm print on 10 x 15 cm paper is cropped to 10x15/2. Anybody any idea? (system win 8.1 64, printer HP B8550)

I accidentally solved my mystery. For some reason it was set to "print to file". I changed it to "printer" and now I am able to print.

When i tried to burn a CD i noticed that i couldn't. Since i rarely do this i don't know since when this problem exists.

Did something change? Because of the mentioned .service file i tought it may be because of because of systemd but booting in fallback will result in the same behavior.
Reinstalling did brasero did not solve the problem either.

Turns out that tracker is a indexing program in gnome-extra and has little to do with this...

Little Update:
/dev/sr0 seems to bee a readOnly filesystem.
This fails:
sudo dd if=Downloads/ubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386.iso of=/dev/sr0

Time runs out and i need to go. Can i change this?

Doing it with growiso doesen't work either. So it's a general Problem... It just sucks to don't have any usefull error message.

How can I burn an audio CD in iTunes with my music library on an external drive?

I keep my entire music library on an external hard drive. I just tried to burn a playlist in iTunes, and iTunes goes through all of the motions (asks for a blank cd, says it's burning) and then it says "Finishing burning" for a while. Then iTunes tells me I have a blank CD in my computer.
I fear the issue is that the music is not on my computer. However, I've added all of the music folders to iTunes, and it plays them off of my external hard drive.

Great suggestion. I had quickly considered burning a disc outside of iTunes with Burnz only to learn that trial period had ended. So...thanks to your 2x4 blow to my head, I tried a Finder burn and got an error, too: The disc can’t be burned, because the device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media. Doing a big of research indicates this might be simply a dust problem in my MacBook and can be resolved with some compressed air. Checking my toolbox shortly and I'll report back! Thanks!

You would indeed need a plug-in to actually select and highlight but you can easily call attention to a part by temporarily changing the color via JavaScript which you can access from external applications.
I can provide more specific advice if you explain the exact user interaction you're looking for. Is this a desktop application? Is the PDF in a browser? etc.

Duplicating burned dvd's? any programs?

i have a ton of dvds burned on dvd-r's and i need a program to copy them. i tried using "burn" but you need an image file to mount and i dont know how to do that. any other programs out there that would work?

The above answers are correct: Disk Utility can duplicate non-protected DVDs. Note that the process is a bit more complex than the above:
* Insert the DVD to duplicate
* In Disk Utility, highlight the DVD
* click "New Image"
* Name your disk image and save it
* Importantly, choose "DVD/CD Master" in the image format pulldown
* choose encryption: none
* Create the DVD image.
Then, just select the DVD image in the utility, and select "Burn." Insert a blank DVD and it will duplicate it.

Can't Burn Second CD in a series with Audiobooks

I have had this problem repeatedly on ITUNES but when I buy a book from AUDIBLE it NEVER happens, even if ITUNES burns the CD's.
I put part one of the book in its own playlist and ITUNES tells me that it will take more than one CD to burn it. It then burns the first CD perfectly and asks for the second. At this point it tells me that my burn speed is wrong...same CD type, same book and now I'm stuck with only the first part of each book part. Since I'm on the road in my vehicle nine or more hours a week I want the WHOLE book, not just parts of it on CD. If this is some protection scheme, AUDIBLE doesn't use it. I have posted about this before and never gotten an answer. I thought maybe the new software version would have fixed the issue but is hasn't and I have purchased my last Audiobook from ITUNES!!

Can't burn CD of book not purchased with Itunes

I'm trying to help a friend who purchased an audiobook (from Amazon) burn it to CDs. The program Amazon uses to download to the computer references using ITunes to burn it to CDs but I am getting stopped cold by ITunes asking for an Audio ID. I've signed my friend up with an Apple account, but it will not accept that user ID and password for this purpose. I do not know what else to do. Any help would be appreciated.
I imported the book into ITunes and created a playlist for it, but when I click on burn to CD I get stopped by this Audio ID business. HELP!

G5 has bad voodoo - can't install OS or run any programs!

One of our users had her machine (dual 2GHz G5/4GB RAM) crash twice. I tried to repair it with Drive Genius and that only made it worse. I was in the middle of defragging and it automatically rebooted. I tried installing 10.5 on it and it just rebooted a few minutes in automatically.
I put in a SECOND hard rive, reformatted it and installed 10.5. Yet, I can't do ANYTHING without the OS crashing. I can't even launch System Prefs. Every app just quits. Now, I'm trying to re-install the OS on the new drive and it's just stuck at 47 minutes.
I'm thinking it's some other hardware issue. I've NEVER seen something so bizarre in all my years supporting Macs.

Which model of Power Mac G5 is it?

Can't open/add files to any program.

Everytime I try to open a file in iTunes,VLC player and etc the window (that contains the files.So I guess finder(?) ) disappears.The first time within a milisecond and the second time it stays open longer.

Have you checked to see if iWeb SEO is compatable with Lion or if there is an update for it? Apple have dropped iWeb from their iLife suite in Lion. It will continue to work, but uploading to MobileMe will cease very shortly.

There is a considerable amount of content on AppleTV that your cable company will likely not carry, as well as the Airplay features and connction to iTunes store/content. So there is plenty one could do with an AppleTV outside of this.The Apple TV has never been designed or promoted as a means of cutting the cable (and that would depend on what your viewing needs/wants are anyway). Apple can only provide content they do not own under the terms that the content providers will agree to. Currently that means most cable/satallite provided content is tied having an account with one of those companies (PBS is one exception). I have Dish, whcih does not participate, but still use my AppleTV seval hours a week and plan to purchase a second one soon.
If you do not like that set up, complain to the content providers (Nettworks, HBO, ESPN, etc.). They are driving this train when it comes to that issue.

CAN ANYBODY PLZ HELP: problem opening any program including internet explorer

i recently got rid of "vista internet security 2010". Took me many scans to wipe it and it seems like i finally cleared it. Now i cant click on anything without it popping up a box saying,
"open with: choose the program you want to use to open this file".
I dont understand what happened but it started doing that right after i used my antivirus and it found the trojan.
can anybody plz help me fix this withouth me having to do a complete system restore?

iDVD 5 doesn't support external burners (directly).
