Can't burn a movie 142 minutes long in LP mode

It only lets me choose between Best, High and Professional quality, I can go from SP to LP mode so i can burn the movie, how do I change to LP mode??
Message was edited by: TheWillis

Hi
No there are no LP-mode in iDVD. There is a possibility by Dual-Layer DVDs if Your
Mac has such a burner that can do this.
Else: The maximum is 120 minutes movie + menu included.

movie 115 minutes long but does not fit in idvd project?

    Hi
    There are more to this
    • Choise of encoding method
    • Choise ot theme/menu
    • What material that was used
    • Choise of encoding method
    iDVD 08, 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities. (version 7.0.1, 7,0.4 & 7.1.1)
iDVD 6 has the two last ones
Professional Quality (movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST
Best Performances (movies + menus  less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD
High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6) (movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
    About double on DL DVDs.
    • Choise ot theme/menu
Some menus can take 15 minutes or more - No Audio, No Animation and a very simple one as "Brushed Metal" - will take very little time
    • What material that was used
Some video codecs need to be re-encoded first then encoded in iDVD - this can be problematic for iDVD and most often gives a poor result.
So what video/audio/photo material did You use and how did You edit it and got it into iDVD ?

  • Just purchased a MacBook Pro and working on IMovie.  Can I burn my movie on a plain DVD??

Just purchased a MacBook Pro and working on IMovie.  Can I burn my movie onto a DVD.?   (I don't have IDVD and understand it's not available to my computer.

No. You need a DVD authoring application such as iDVD.
New machine purcahses do not include iDVD and iWeb as part of the iLife '11 suite of apps but that doesn't mean they don't work in Lion.
Apple no longer sells iDVD or iWeb so you'll have to search for a reseller of the iLife '09 or '11 DVD or use a more expensive authoring app like Toast.

I suddenly can't burn cds longer than 8-9 minutes; this has never been a problem before! Or: has something changed since the last update?

On a mac you can send the photos to imovie, iphoto, or iDVD if you have that. The only kind of video disc PSE can make (on either platform) is the horrible VCD format, which was never very good and is fast becoming obsolete. It's getting harder to find dvd players that can read that format.

  • Can't burn iMovie3 movie on iDVD3

I've used iMovie3 to make a short (3 min) film, but can't figure out how to burn it. I followed the instructions (several times) by clicking on the iDVD button and hit "create a new iDVD project." The quiet "gerbil" sounds ensued for about 2-3 minutes. But nothing appears to have been transferred, so nothing can be burned. I'm using OSX tiger. Any advice? Should I upgrade to iLife 6.0? I've always struggled with iDVD which seems counterintuitive at virtually every step.

    Hi, Whitewater.
Are your movie files stored on an external hard drive? If so, I have the same problem with iMovie3 with movie files that don’t share the same space as the iMovie3 and iDVD3 applications. My workaround is to copy the movie file (and all it’s contents, media, etc.) back to my hard drive first. Then iDVD launches from iMovie just fine. Seems like the movie files and the application need to share the same drive in order to “talk” to each other.
Note: Once iDVD is launched you won’t be able to burn the dvd until the entire file is done encoding. This can take a while depending on the size of your movie. You can check the progress of this in iDVD by selecting the Customize button and the Status tab. The upside is that you can have fun with themes and settings while you wait!

  • How can I burn a movie to a DVD so that it will play in a DVD player?

I've tried burning the movie in Itunes and via the "Burn" option when right clicked. The file burns just fine and it shows up on my computer as a DVD. Yet when I insert the disc into my DVD player, it says there is not any data - audio or video wise.

You can make a slideshow in iPhoto and use the Share -> Send to iDVD command. You can also make a slideshow in iDVD. The help on both apps is pretty good, have to checked it out at all?

  • Can I burn a .mov file directly to DVD?

How do I burn my QT movie to a DVD so that the resulting DVD movie can be played back with QT?
It is only 2GB in size, so should not need compressing.
QT 7.6.4 simply does not play the video once it is on DVD.
    What am I missing?

I'm not quite sure how Movie and QT Movie differ, since they both have the .mov file extension name.
The MOV, MP4, and M4V file extensions refer to the container in which the data is stored. MOV, for instance, is a generic file container which can contain up to 99 tracks of compatible data. In the case of audio and video content, that means any compression format compatible with whatever codec components you have installed on your system to include third-party components. You can place WMV, DivX, or even "muxed" MPEG-1 data in an MOV container. On the other hand, an MP4 container is normally limited to MPEG4/AAC or H.264/AAC audioi/video content which normally opens using the QT Player. The M4V container is even more specific --normally limited to H.264/AAC or H.264/AAC/AC3 content which automatically opens in iTunes when double-clicked (assuming you have not changed the opening application yourself). The same H.264/AAC data placed in any of these file containers will play equally well. However, owing to differences, in the container itself, they may appear to have differing file sizes or possess differing file characteristics. However, as mentioned above the A/V data is exactly the same in each. In fact, using the "Save As.." command on either the MP4 or H.264 file will save the active A/V content of that file in an MOV file container.
Now how should I burn this QT Movie to DVD to get best quality?
As previously stated, the easiest way is to place the file in a "Burn" folder and press the "Burn" button. This action simply copies the file(s) in the folder to your optical media without changing the file at all. You can also burn "data" discs using the Disk utility included in the Utility Folder but using the burn folder is an automated Finder feature that burns media without having to open a dedicated application.
Toast is obviously out, since it takes the resolution down and changes the ratio aspect. Burn with Finder does not make a dvd that is playable on a dvd player... Does this mean I should use iDVD, or is there a better option?
Here you have to make a decision. Commercial DVD players do not support HD content. You can either "author" a DVD in an application like Toast or iDVD and have it converted to SD content (the standard 720x480 VIDEO_TS VOB files) or you create an HD file that plays back in HD but only on your computer using one of the QT-based player applications. You can't have it both ways. If your files must be HD and play on a commercial player, then buy a Blu-Ray player, buy a Blu-Ray burner, and then use the Toast 10 High-Def/Blu-Ray plug-in to create either short HD DVDs or Blu-Ray discs that will play your HD content in HD on your new commercial Blu-Ray player. This is not, however, what you originally asked how to do and the HD content will not be QT compatible.

  • When using imovie and converting to idvd the cd ejects before the burn is complete.  how can I burn the movie for viewing?

when in idvd the disc ejects before multiplexing and burning are completed therefore the disc has issues when viewing.  there are damaged areas.  Is there a work around to burn the movie?

Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac? How do I get it and how do I install it?
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3673
To burn a DVD with iDVD from the latest version of iMovie, you have to export the movie using the Export button and select 480p as the size. Open iDVD and start a new project, then drag that exported movie file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones you see.

  • Can't export because movie is too long (9:42 minutes).

Hello, I have a series of 12 hour long MP4s.  I wanted to merge them all into one movie that I could store under one album cover on my iPad.  I figured I would use iMovie so I put them all in one project.  Then tried to export.  After three or so hours of "preparing the project" an error popped up saying that the file is too long.  I have over 600GB of free space on my harddrive so it isn't that.
What should I do without shortening the video?
    Thanks!

Are you using version 8 or version 9? It's hard to tell because you reference both.
In version 9, if you go to the Share tab and select the Computer option, you'll be taken to a screen with seven output options.
Audio wil be listed as your last option. (You do have to click on the Audio listing to select it.) and MP3s are certainly among the options listed on the Preset menu.
If you can't see it, you need to scroll down or resize your panels -- or your computer monitor may not be large enough. But it's there.

  • Can you burn multible movies on one bluray dvd disc with final cut pro

how to burn two completed quick time movies to blu ray dvd with final cut pro? Ive tried but wont play

    Mark,
Welcome to the wild and wacky world of DVD's and Mpeg2!
Here are a few things that might help.
it seems to want everything as a QT. This presents size limitations.
Not really, iDVD simply takes the QT files that you feed it and uses its own compressor to encode them to mpeg2 files. As long as your source material is not over 2 hours iDVD can handle it.
I'm planning to export from fcp using Compressor in the hope of fitting everything onto one disc
You can do this, but you might find it simpler to simply export a QT reference movie from FCP and drag that into DVDSP. DVDSP will then use compressor to create the mpeg2 files that you need. I say this because some find compressor a little intimidating at first. (I know that I still do.)
Now, go find the manuals that came with your software and start reading, DVDSP is a powerful program and the manuals are the best place to start.
    Good luck!

  • Can you burn a movie or T.V shows to iTunes?

I tryed to do this but it wont work but im not sure if you can..............but in the menu that it comes with it says you put the disk to the computer and download it to iTunes.......some one help me.

Your post is a little unclear as to what you are trying to do. Are you trying to rip one of your own DVD's into iTunes to put on your iPod? Are you trying to burn a DVD of a movie or TV show purchased in the store? If you could be a little more specific, I'm sure someone can help.

You transfer the purchases to the computer you use to sync the iPhone.  You can use a thumb drive or an external HD, etc.  Read this: iTunes for Mac - How to copy purchases between computers:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1373
