Can't burn CD even with Toast

Ok, I tried all of the suggestions and still couldn't burn an audio CD, so I went ahead and purchased Toast 9. Still can't burn CDs. Is my only option to get an external CD so my husband can burn CDs of the music purchased from iTunes to play in his car? If so, which CD burner should I buy?
Barbara

Barbara, Toast cannot burn iTunes Music Store downloads because only iTunes has the right to remove the copy protection when burning an audio CD.
You say your Mac Pro cannot burn CDs after upgrading to OS 10.5. I believe this means you need to reinstall the OS (using archive and install). I once received a new Mac directly from Apple that couldn't burn discs. When I reinstalled the OS the disc burning worked. I don't know if your situation is similar to what I experienced, but it sounds like something didn't install properly.
If you want to try alternatives to reinstalling the OS you can download and apply the latest Combined System Update on top of your existing install (i.e. install the 10.5.2 combined update on your existing 10.5.2). You also could run Disk Warrior if you have it.
As for external drives the ones sold by LaCie are excellent with Macs. Get a Firewire one.
To burn audio CDs with iTunes go to iTunes Preferences, choose the Advanced tab, click burning and choose Audio CD as the format. You then can burn playlists to disc (assuming your OS is letting you burn discs).

  • Can't burn DVD's with Tiger

Since I installed Tiger, I can't burn DVD's using either Toast 6.1 or the native Apple burning software. I keep getting "Mismatch at byte...sector9. Verification failed." I am trying to back up a variety of files. I can burn CD's on my iBook G4, but I can't burn any DVD with any kind of content on my Pioneer. I tried PatchBurn with no success. Any suggestions? TIA. --- Dave

My guess is your Pioneer drive is connected via Firewire or USB 2. The OS 10.4 install or updates may have caused some problem with the Firewire or USB 2 communication with the drive. Oftentimes these problems are fixed by applying Apple's Combined System Updater. In your case that is the 10.4.4 combined update. It doesn't matter if you are already running 10.4.4.
Otherwise you may need to do an archive and reinstall of 10.4 to get the link working properly.

  • I can not burn CD's with my Itunes anymore. It tells  me I am missing CD burner and to re download ITunes. I have done that and it stills does not work. Every time I try, Disc Recorder not found keeps coming up! Please someone help me!!!

I can not burn a CD with my itunes anymore. It tells me to re download itunes. I have done that and still have the same problem. When I do try, Missing disc recorder keeps coming up. Please help!!!!

    Hello again, Stew.
Also when I open itunes it gives me a warning and says "The registry settings used by the itunes drivers for importingand burning cd's and dvds are missing. Please reinstall itunes."
With that one let's first try a reboot and repair.
Reboot the PC (very important), and the do a *repair install* of iTunes.
Go to your "Add or Remove Programs" control panel, select iTunes, click "Change" and then click "Repair".
Does iTunes launch without the error message now?
If no luck there, try checking for a device filter conflict in your registry:

  • Can I Burn a Slideshow with Music onto a Disk?

I have a slide show with music and I want to burn both to a disk to give to friends who have Macs and PCs. Is there a disk that will record both? Is it best to burn from iDVD or Toast 7?

    Sue,
Most of the time when a PC can't play a DVD, an update of WinDVD needs to be downloaded (provided the PC has a DVD-Rom drive). Most PCs seem to be geared for "business" so multi-media stuff is outdated and forgotten. Or, if the PC can't play a DVD it may be because it only has a CD-Rom drive (as many PCs only do), and in this case it's time to chuck the PC and buy a Mac

  • HT1103 How can I burn a slideshow (with sound) to a DVD.  I have an imac desktop.

Does anyone know how to burn a slideshow to a dvd disc.  It has pictures, video and music.  LLaBant

To create a video DVD disk that can be played in set top DVD players and shown on a TV set you need a DVD video authoring application, like iDVD.  If you do not have iDVD on your Mac you'll have to purchse it by bying a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com.
Why iLife 09 and not 11:
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
1 - once you have iDVD installed export the slideshow out of iPhoto at Size = Medium or Large:
2 - 0pen iDVD, select your theme and drag the exported movie file into the menu window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
3 - follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • How can I burn a dvd with a short movie file on my Imac so it will play on a dvd player? I keep getting an error message on my player "wrong disc type".

How can I burn a small movie file to a dvd that will play on a dvd player? I keep getting an error message "wrong type of disc" on my player. My burner is built in to my monitor. Will I have to buy software such as Toast to burn with?

I'm using the burner utility that came with the computer. The video is on I took with my small camera. I'm using a DVD-r disc and I drag the file to the disc icon then hit burn and everything seems ok. I can remove the disc and put it back in and see the file but if I put it in a DVD player it won't play, just get error message.

  • Can i Burn Dvd's with my Powerbook G4

    Hi,
I have a Powerbook G4 Running Mac OS X Tiger it has a Matshita cd-rw cw-8123. I was under the impression when i bought my powerbook that i could durn Dvd Movies with it, as i thought it was standard with any Powerbook G4.
Please can someone assist with the following.
    1 - Should i be able to burn Dvd's
2 - Can i get the software added to Durn Dvd's

    Simon -
Earlier versions of iDVD and Panther did not allow you to burn directly from iDVD to an external DVD burner. With the current version of iDVD and Tiger, you can. You just have to select the external burner. However, you can also burn your DVD as a Disc Image to your hard drive, and then burn the contents of that Disc Image to your DVD using Dragon Burn or Toast. Finally, there is an Easter Egg available that will work with Panther, enabling you to burn directly from an older iDVD and Panther to an external drive.
I wish I could be more specific and offer more step-by-step instructions, but it's been awhile since I did that. But, here are some links that you will find to be more helpful than I can be:

  • Can I burn a DVD with Leopard?

I just purchased a new MacPro and it should arrive in about 2 weeks. A simple question. Can I burn a DVD using the OS or do I need a seperate software package to do this?
    I haven't used a MAC in about 20 years so I am a "newbie".

You can burn a data DVD with Leopard's Finder:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8398.html
    or Disk Utility:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8729.html
and the Mac Pro also ships with iDVD which supports up to 2 hours on a 4.7 GB DVD, and over 3 hours on an 8.4 GB Dual Layer DVD.
Since I'm not as familiar with iDVD, you may want to post your question here if you plan on using it:

Other movie DVD software made by third parties offer additional capabilities.

  • Can't Burn Blu-ray with Share

Content shorter than 20 minutes usually burns ok. Content longer than 20 minutes fails with message "check to see if boot volume has sufficient space." I've tried directly from FCP and via Compressor with same error. Uninstalled and reinstalled and updated latest FCP Studio. Able to burn with Toast 10 but would prefer to use FCP. Name brand discs. Lots of free disk space. No other apps running. Comments welcome. Suggestions other than Encore are welcome. Thanks.

I have actually not had any issues with Share, whether to DVD or Blu-ray HD, particularly in Snow Leopard. I did find the share to MobileMe flakey, as to duration of time required, but don't do that much. There is the oddity that DVD+R media will not work with Create Disc -- only DVD-R.
Creation of the discs are very fast.

  • I can not burn dvds anylonger with my MacPro. Why ?

Hi everyone. I already posted this message in another thread but got no useful replies.
Configuration: MacPro Early 2008, MacOSX 10.6.8
I can not burn dvds anymore and do not know why. I can play dvds and cds though!
The following is the usual error message displaying after clicking the button burn :
I have run Disk Utility from the Install cd of Snow Leopard and the small things which needed repairs have been repaired.
I have reset the PRAM and the SMC (System Management Controller). Nothing.
I have set up a new user account with admin privileges but it did not work.
Please, note that I am trying to burn the same Kodak Pro dvds for photo and data archival that I burned in the past in the same MacPro.
I am actually burning my dvds using my MacBook Pro connected with my MacPro through Airport but it's a very slow process, of course.
    Any piece of advice ?
    Thank you !

  • Best export format for encoding & burning Blu-ray with toast?

    Hi!
Have a 1 hour and fifteen minutes program which I burn to Blu-Ray with Toast 10/HD. The problem is the time it takes, about 25 hours. Is this resonable really?
    Maybe it´s depending on the format I put out from Final Cut - H.264, 1920 x 1080 (1888 x 1062)Stereo (L R), 48,000 kHz
Does anyone know if there is a better export setting in Final Cut to get the process work faster in Toast?
    Best / Urban

I've never used toast to burn a BluRay however I have used encore and I export 10 bit uncompressed out of FCP and compress that. If your over an hour of program you'll have to scale back the data rate to make it fit, a 90 minute feature looks good content wise, but any text on it will show signs of the reduced data rate. the encode typically takes about 8 hours to build the disk image on an 8 core mac then about 45 minutes to burn from the image. I burn first to a rewritable in case of issues, then if it passes muster I'll burn the master

  • I can't burn cd's with windows and get error 4261

Until yesterday I had no problem burning cd's with my iTunes-program in my Windows. All of a sudden (apparently) I constantley get the error-message 4261 having an unknown error. It seems that the problem has nothing to do with the selected tracks of the playlist. Often the burning is almost ready but then it stops sending a 4261.
What am I doing wrong and/or how can this problem been solved?

Could you post your diagnostics for us please?
In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:
    ... and click "Next".
When you get through to the final screen:
... click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the diagnostics into a reply here.
