Can't burn CDs; used to be able

Just up-dated to iTunes 10.
Before the up-date, could burn CDs just fine.
Now, I create my new playlist, insert the same kind of CD I used a few days before up-date, and I get the message:
disc burner or software not found
And it lists a Mashita DVD burner. (I didn't notice if this was listed previously.)
Suggestions? Help! Thank you.

  • Can't burn CDs in iTunes

I can't burn CDs in iTunes. I get "The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (4261). I have tried to reduce the speed - didn't work. I have never had a problem before - but after I downloaded the new version of iTunes, I can't burn. I know the burner works because I can burn using NERO. Please help!

I'm assuming you have already resolved the issue, but if you have not, I would recommend that you uninstall iTunes completely and remove anything related to Apple on your computer including Quicktime. See this post for what you need to remove: http://mismike.blogspot.com/2008/03/itunes-wont-close-on-windows-xp-sp2.html. Good luck.

  • Device filter Problems, can't burn cds in iTunes, Blank CDs appear to have

Problem was first noticed because I can't burn CDs in iTunes.
The problem is that all blank CDs show that they have no space on them available. If I look at the properties of a blank CD, they show 0 bytes used, 0 bytes free and 0 bytes available.
By removing the upperfilters and lowerfilters in the registry, (accoring to the Microsoft prescribed method for this problem found at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060) the problem is solved for my whole sytem except for iTunes. iTunes then tells me that "the registry settings used by iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. ... Please reinstall iTunes."
I reinstall or repair iTunes and then iTunes opens fine but I can't burn with iTunes or any other program since I am back to all blank CDs showing there is no space available.
The iTunes toubleshooting Fac found at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302976 has been tried also and does not change the problem of blank CDs having no space available.

Then went to the recording tab and unselected the enable recording selection. Now I can burn every time! If this fixes it for anyone else let me know!

  • How can I burn CDs that will play on my car stereo CD player?

How can I burn CDs that will play on my car stereo CD player?

Make sure the format when you burn your playlist is one your car's CD player will recognize. Typically mp3 songs are readable now but when in doubt, burn an audio cd. Yes, you will get less songs per cd (as compared to mp3 formatted one) but you are guaranteed the cd will work in any place.  Most cars have it written on the radio somewhere what formats it can read for CDs.. Good luck!

  • HELP! I updated my software and can no longer burn cds using iTunes

I followed all of the troubleshooting steps for not being able to burn a cd. I was able to burn cds with other cd burning programs installed on my pc, but itunes was the only program that would not burn the cd correctly. itunes would go through the entire process of burning: check media, check playlist, burn cd, finish burning cd. itunes would even ask me if I wanted to import the new cd into my playlist after it finished "burning" my cd but there was never anything on the cd. I also tried playing the cd using other programs and in other equipment but it never worked. I updated my software recently and I thought I could try to go back to an older version because I never had this problem before. However, when I uninstalled the newer version and tried to reinstall an older version of itunes, the older version of itunes refused to open because my music library was apparently created by the newer version of itunes. I don't know what to do to be able to burn cds again. At this point, I would much rather use another cd burning program but itunes is the only program that will burn the songs that I've purchased from itunes onto a cd.

Notes usually sync with a mail service i.e gmail, yahoo, aol, etc. Do you have a mail account setup on your product? If so, have you went into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Select your mail account > see if notes are toggled on

  • Can't burn CDs in iTunes anymore

The last few times I've tried to burn a CD in iTunes, I've been unable to. I assemble a playlist and click the burn button, and it gets as far as the "checking playlist" message, then freezes up. I ran the diagnostic test, and I'll paste my results below. I'm able to burn CDs with other programs, but I want to use iTunes because that's where all my music is.
I've got the newest version of iTunes and am running Windows XP. I'm using Verbatim CD-Rs, which I've used for quite awhile and I've never had trouble before. I'm hoping someone here can help me out, because after spending an hour or more reading articles in the support section of the site, I'm no closer to a fix. Thanks in advance for any help.

1)I do have Roxio Easy CD Creator on my computer, but I use that for copying CDs and making data CDs. I'm pretty sure I lost the installation CD when I moved a few years ago, so I really don't want to uninstall it.
    2) I went into the device manager in my control panel in XP and ran an update search for the drivers for my ATA and IDE controllers. It did find an update for the ATA driver and I installed it and restarted my computer, but it didn't change anything. I did a similar update driver search for my CD drive, and it didn't find any updates. I went to Dell's website and did a search for "firmware update" and it gave me way too many results. When I did the same search with my computer model name in it, it didn't give me any. I've had this computer for nearly 5 years, so I'm not sure how to track down any updates I might need.
    3) I tried a Maxell CD and had the same results
    4) I tried resetting the burning speed to both 8x and 4x and it still froze up right after "checking playlist"
Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it.

  • Can't burn cds but can import media from them?

Hi. I built my computer about 7 months ago and runs Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit edition. I am able to import songs from my cd drive but cannot burn since it says "Disk burner or software not found..." There is a window that says that itunes cannot import media or burn cds when i start up the program. I have tried reinstalling itunes multiple times and it is no better. I have even tried to find converters so I could burn my music using windows media player. I know that the formats for the music are .mp4a, .mp4b, and mp4p and that WMP does not support these formats for burning. is there any way i can get drivers for my computer or should i just go out and buy an external cd drive for my computer? Or is there a converter that would change these formats to .mp3, even though that isn't very legal. The CD drive is made by Samsung and believe it is the SH-W162L DVD writer.

  • Can't burn CDs - can't find driver updates

    Aaargh! It's happened again!!!
When I put a CD in, the CD is recognized as blank but when I try to burn the playlist, Itunes hesitates for about 30 seconds and then ejects the CD with no error message.
This happened about three months ago and I spent two days looking for driver updates and mindlessly uninstalling applications and it began working again. I am certain I am having some conflict with other software because my burner works fine with SonicStage with the same CDs. Does anyone know how to identify the offending software? • I can't burn CDs in 7.0 with any consistency - most times, failure

Every time I think I have the problem solved (uninstall and reinstall iTunes, reduce burn speed), I go back to not being able to burn a CD. If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.

    Hi,
I have not yet done as you've requested, but I have nevertheless successfully burned three cds in a row, after a series of one failure, one sucess and one failure. after the second failure, i opened the playlist that I wanted to burn, closed iTunes, re-opened iTunes (which opened in the playlist that i wanted), put in a blank CD-R and immediately burned the cd without further action. i followed this process with the three different playlists that i wanted to burn, and for whatever reason, i was able to burn the three cds. the first time i had the failure this evening, i changed the burn speed, and it burned the next one. but then i tried to burn a second playlist, and i had a failure. so, that's when i tried the "open" and "close" iTunes process above. i have no idea whether that had anything to do with my success, or if i just got "lucky". maybe next time, i'll chant and whisper some incantations first...
thanks for your help. i see that you have been responding to a lot of folks. i'm just not sure what those updates are, and i have replaced my harddrive since i bought the computer, so i wasn't sure if dell had my proper information still, which is why i didn't follow your advice (at least at this point).
    regards,
    mike

  • Can't burn cds

my itunes has started acting up and no longer burns cds. the program will let me create a playlist, but when i insert a blank cd it just spits it back out and reads "insert blank cd" even though that is what i've used- and i've tried using various types of cds and it does that with all of them. itunes, as well as my mac hardrive, has also stopped recognizing audio cds with content on it, which makes me think it might be a problem with the cd drive hardware. any suggestions on what to do?

Yeah, it really sounds like a hardware issue. You can try creating a new user on your machine and seeing if the problem exists there as well. If it doesn't, there is something corrupt in your main user. If it does, it's a system-wide issue (likely hardware, not software related).
