Can't burn CDs with Matsushita UJ-845 Driver

I have an iMac 17" with a Matsushita UJ-845 Driver. Every time I try to burn a CD or a DVD I get an error which says : The attempt to burn a disc failed. The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media. I don't know what goes wrong with the driver. I have installed Boot Camp and Windows XP on my iMac. I've tried to burn the CD from there and it failed, too. I've tried to reset the PRAM and the SMC, but it doesn't working, either. Please tell me what to do-I need that CD immediately.

hi guys, i have been having the same problem, i have the same drive, not the same system though. I have mac mini intel, i noticed that the drive wasnt working, only recently really. but having now thought about it, it is quite possible that it has gone kerplut after updating to 10.4.10/11. I went to my local apple outlet, n to take it to be looked at would be 65 quid, then on top of that. if theres sommat wrong with it apparently is 200 quid almost, which baffles me..apparently they are slim-line ones like in laptops. WHHHHY! dont this thing work, im considering getting an external Lacie.

  • Error 4000 burning CDs with iTunes 7.1

iTunes checks the disc, then burns 3-4 songs, then cancels the CD burn wasting yet another disc. Also, I cannot backup my purchased songs with the backup feature. I get the same error 4000 when attempting to make a backup disc. These problems only began after installing iTunes 7.0. How can these problems be fixed? TIA.

Same problems here. I have 2 different computers and tries 2 different CD-Rs and I found out that it has soemthing to do with the new "Protected AAC audio file" format.
Open iTunes, click on music, on the listing side of the screen right click on name, and then click on "kind".
I bet you can't burn anything with the "Protected AAC audio file."
No solutions yet, so just don't buy anything else from iTunes for now.

  • Can't burn CDs in iTunes anymore

The last few times I've tried to burn a CD in iTunes, I've been unable to. I assemble a playlist and click the burn button, and it gets as far as the "checking playlist" message, then freezes up. I ran the diagnostic test, and I'll paste my results below. I'm able to burn CDs with other programs, but I want to use iTunes because that's where all my music is.
I've got the newest version of iTunes and am running Windows XP. I'm using Verbatim CD-Rs, which I've used for quite awhile and I've never had trouble before. I'm hoping someone here can help me out, because after spending an hour or more reading articles in the support section of the site, I'm no closer to a fix. Thanks in advance for any help.

1)I do have Roxio Easy CD Creator on my computer, but I use that for copying CDs and making data CDs. I'm pretty sure I lost the installation CD when I moved a few years ago, so I really don't want to uninstall it.
    2) I went into the device manager in my control panel in XP and ran an update search for the drivers for my ATA and IDE controllers. It did find an update for the ATA driver and I installed it and restarted my computer, but it didn't change anything. I did a similar update driver search for my CD drive, and it didn't find any updates. I went to Dell's website and did a search for "firmware update" and it gave me way too many results. When I did the same search with my computer model name in it, it didn't give me any. I've had this computer for nearly 5 years, so I'm not sure how to track down any updates I might need.
    3) I tried a Maxell CD and had the same results
    4) I tried resetting the burning speed to both 8x and 4x and it still froze up right after "checking playlist"
Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it.

  • Help Please: Unable to Import or Burn CDs with iTunes

    Hello,
At some point over the last few updates I seem to have lost the ability to import or burn CDs with iTunes. I've done so many times in the past with no problem however when I attempt to do so now my entire PC restarts or in a few cases gives me the generic Windows "iTunes needs to close" error.
So far I've made sure my PC is not overheating. I've ruled out spyware or viruses using AVG and CCleaner. I've swapped out power supplies only to have the problem continue. I am able to listen to music and/or burn CDs and DVDs in both of my drives using other applications with no problem. I've tried fresh, clean installs of iTunes all the way back to 8.02 with no success. I've even gone as far as to completely reformat Windows only to have this problem continue.
Any help or suggestions would be most welcome. I will be glad to provide any requested information, thank you.

What good is buying your music through itunes if you can't burn a cd and/or back it up? Why isn't this issued solved - I can't burn a cd. I have missing registry files and warning that says to reinstall which I've tried unsuccessfully. Hopefully they'll find a fix before I lose my 500 songs I've purchased...does anyone back up on a external hard drive - any suggestions? Thanks

  • Device filter Problems, can't burn cds in iTunes, Blank CDs appear to have

Problem was first noticed because I can't burn CDs in iTunes.
The problem is that all blank CDs show that they have no space on them available. If I look at the properties of a blank CD, they show 0 bytes used, 0 bytes free and 0 bytes available.
By removing the upperfilters and lowerfilters in the registry, (accoring to the Microsoft prescribed method for this problem found at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060) the problem is solved for my whole sytem except for iTunes. iTunes then tells me that "the registry settings used by iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. ... Please reinstall iTunes."
I reinstall or repair iTunes and then iTunes opens fine but I can't burn with iTunes or any other program since I am back to all blank CDs showing there is no space available.
The iTunes toubleshooting Fac found at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302976 has been tried also and does not change the problem of blank CDs having no space available.

  • Can't burn CD with I-Tunes

I could burn CDs with Itunes a couple of years ago.  Now I can't.  "Settings are missing....remove other CD burning software" is the message.
After updating I-tunes to 9, the DVD drive is missing.  Have had this problem before and went through the regedit steps to remove upper and/or lower filters.  The DVD drive came back, but still I-Tunes was not burning.
Is there a permanent fix for this?  I am nervous about doing the regedit steps in order to burn DVDs/CDs in Windows.  AND would like to make I-Tunes music CDs!
Is there help out there?  Do I need a new hard drive?  OR......?
    Thanks

How can I burn CDs that will play on my car stereo CD player?

Make sure the format when you burn your playlist is one your car's CD player will recognize. Typically mp3 songs are readable now but when in doubt, burn an audio cd. Yes, you will get less songs per cd (as compared to mp3 formatted one) but you are guaranteed the cd will work in any place.  Most cars have it written on the radio somewhere what formats it can read for CDs.. Good luck!

  • Computer freezes when trying to burn cds with itunes

I don't know if this would help other people with issues related to burning cds with itunes but here it goes:
My computer running Windows XP SP2 and itunes 7.6.1.9 suddently stopped burning cds via itunes about a couple of versions ago. Burning would start correctly, however the operation never completed successfully, in fact, the computer would completly freeze before getting too far. The computer had to be hard booted, meaning I had to hold the power button to kill it. The only solution that I've come up with that effectively corrects this problem is as follows:
    Close itunes
Go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services
Look for IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service and open it (double-click it):
If not started, start it by clicking the Start button
    Select Startup Type as Automatic
Go to Recovery tab and set first, second and subsequent failures to Restart the Service
Click Apply and then Ok to close window
Look for iPod Service and open it:
If not started, start it by clicking the Start button
    Select Startup Type as Automatic
Click Apply and then Ok to close window
Restart itunes, try burning a cd from a playlist in itunes. There is no guarantee that this will solve your issue, but it is worth a shot, it has worked for me so far.

  • Can't burn CDs - "Internal Target Failure"

I've burned thousands of discs with no problems on this Mac which I bought in July 2005. Today three consecutive attempts yielded the following error message:
    Sense key: HARDWARE ERROR
    Sense code: 0x44, 0x8E
    INTERNAL TARGET FAILURE
Burner is the Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-109.
Was using some generic Philips discs for the first two but this also happened with a Taiyo Yuden.
Using Toast 7.0.1 and Toast 8 to do the burning.

I am getting the same error messages when I try to burn CDs with my Pioneer DVR-112. The drive quit recognizing any CD, and will not burn CD-R (audio/data), regardless of brand (I have tried Verbatim, TDK, Memorex, etc.), at any speed (not even 1X), from either Toast, the desktop, iTunes, etc. I keep getting coasters, and Hardware error messages. However, it has no trouble burning DVD-R/DVD+R. I RMA-ed the defective drive back to OWC and they will analyze it. The other Pioneer replacement drive I bought at the same time for my home G5 seems to be working OK at this time (knock on wood), hopefully it was a just a glitch in Pioneer's quality control.

I'm assuming you have already resolved the issue, but if you have not, I would recommend that you uninstall iTunes completely and remove anything related to Apple on your computer including Quicktime. See this post for what you need to remove: http://mismike.blogspot.com/2008/03/itunes-wont-close-on-windows-xp-sp2.html. Good luck.

iTunes can be a bit flaky on 64 bit Vista since it's not supported but it has been known to work.

The last failed audio CD burn had error code 4000(0x00000fa0). It happened on drive D: _NEC DVD_RW ND-2500A on CDR media at speed 4X.

I think I fixed it...I went under My Computer, then right clicked on the cd drive that I used to burn, go to properties, went under the auto play tab, selected the action to perform button for each individual category(dvd, blank cd, music cd) selected the no action icon for each category. Then went to the recording tab and unselected the enable recording selection. Now I can burn every time! If this fixes it for anyone else let me know!

  • Can I partition my hard drive to hold Windows 8 (Beta), instead of Windows 7, and can I do this with an external CD drive?

I have a late 2008 Macbook Pro with Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion installed, but my CD drive inside my computer is damaged*, and it's far cheaper to buy an external CD drive than to repair it entirely. Before I do either, I would like some grasp of whether or not it's worth my time and money, as I've yet to order the external drive or make a genius bar appointment.
Also, the reason I'm choosing Windows 8 (Beta) is because it's free.
*I dropped my computer once two years ago. I haven't even used my CD drive until recently when trying to install Windows 8. I assume the drop was the issue. I've used compressed air to remove dirt/dust as well as resetting the PRAM multiple times and nothing seems to work, but I'm not worried about it.
    Thank you.

Can I partition my hard drive to hold Windows 8 (Beta), instead of Windows 7, and can I do this with an external CD drive?
    No and No.
1: Apple only supports Windows 7 at this time in BootCamp (direct install into a bootable partition) because Win 8 is in Beta and no Mac hardware drivers are available yet from Apple for Windows 8.
2: You can't install Windows from a external cd drive into BootCamp, it has to be a internal one far as I know, perhaps a USB will work I don't know.
    Yes:
1: You can download and install Windows 8 Beta into a the free virtual machine software called VirtualBox, which Windows 8 will run in a window in OS X. This is better as it's still in Beta and Windows Beta releases will expire. Plus Windows 8 is a pain in the behind and you will want to be able to have VirtualBox or OS X be able to regain control over the computer.
