Can't burn discs in iTunes or like pulling teeth.

I have posted on this subject a couple times now, and I read that I am not alone in this suffering. I receive the infamous error 4000 when trying to burn "any" music files from iTunes. What really frustrates me is that I can't even burn the music I purchase from "The Store" which as I understand in the user/purchase agreement is my "right"
I have read through 40 pages of this forum about this issue and I have yet to see a fix for it. Is there a fix? I also see that others who suffer the same fate do not have an answer either. This issue is only related to itunes as I can burn in any other burning software that exists. I have taken many steps through the computer manufacturer (whom is also aware of this issue) only to discover that this is purely an iTunes problem. I have contacted iTunes support directly and have had no response regarding this issue, hence this rant. The only suggestions that I have seen are to alter system files that may or may not work. Why should I or anyone else have to do this when so much other software (for burning CDs) just seems to work?
I would very much like to continue to use iTunes and by association the iTunes Store as I find this to be a convenient way to purchase music however, what good is it if I can’t burn this “purchased” music which I mentioned is my right.
The only positive thing for me is that I am a stockholder and have made a few dollars from Apple, so maybe it’s a wash.
Support for iTunes in Windows appears rather dismal to me right now.

This is also my NUMBER 1 complaint about this POS ipod and itunes. I paid my money for songs and have the right to transfer these files to ANY format I choose for personal use. NOT ALL OF WANT TO BUY EVRY F'N ACCESSORY OUT THERE TO PLAY ITUNES IN OUR CARS OR ON HOME STEREOS. WE WANT TO BURN F'N CD'S TO USE IN OUR CARS AND ON OUR HOME STEREOS. Someone needs to correct this issue! I F'N bout the file and didnt pirate the file I have the right to use it in anyway i see fit for personal use! Like a dumb *** I went out and bought three ipods for my whole clan . Only to find the nightmare of having to set up three different libraries. Then the three different music libraries makes it were if one buys a song on itunes you cant move this file to another ipod and play it. Only they can or if you make the mistake and buy a song on a different system it wont transfer to your home itunes library.
AND EVERYONE KNOW THESE PIECES OF **** CRASH AND LOOSE THEIR FILE EVRY OTHER F'N DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My RANT and what a waste of money this hardware and software is. GOD I WISH WINDOWS WOULD COME OUT WITH SOMETHINGS SO I CAN THROW ALL OF THESE IN THE TRASH!!!!!!

  • Can't burn disc via iTunes. Burn speed too fast. AGAIN!

"iTunes can't burn this CD because the burn speed is too fast for your CD burner or media. Choose a lower speed in the burning pane of iTunes Preferences then try burning again".
I have been having on going problems burning CD’s in iTunes for YEARS, and I know I am not the only one. I get the error message above. Having checked the forum at the time, and posted for help, I am know there is no real solution except to change brand of disc.
Thing is, now I can’t get ANY brands to work. I’ve been through Verbatim, Maxell, JVC, Sony, but none work. The only brand that would work were TDK audios which I can no longer find anywhere.
I know its not the burner, as Toast works fine, and I know I am not alone. Anyone got any ideas?
Even after years Apple seem to be blanking this question. It’s very frustrating not being able to burn my purchased itunes downloads to disc.

To anyone who is interested I think I may have found a possible solution. When you put a blank disc in the drive, wait about 30-60 seconds or so for it to stop spinning before burning.
This seems to work. It's a bit sticky but eventually works. I tried both TDK & Maxwell discs and 9 out of 11 worked. Absolutely no reason why the other 2 didn't, but it's a lot better than none.

  • Can't burn Disc from iTunes after Microsoft fix

Okay ... long process to get iTunes working and I am almost there. Here is the saga ...
I upgraded to iTunes 6.0 and after the upgrade neither of my CD/DVD drives would work. After surfing the internet, I found the solution on Microsoft.com, which was to delete some specific upper and lower filters from the registry and then reboot the computer. I did this and everything worked great. I was able to use iTunes and both my CD/DVD drives worked. But now .... I cannot burn any discs from iTunes, (I can burn from other places), it says,"cannot find recording disc" It will let me upload CDs into iTunes. Here is my CD diagnostics:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)
Dell Computer Corporation Precision WorkStation 350
    iTunes 6.0.4.2
    CD Driver 2.0.4.3

If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.

Failed loading CD / DVD drives, error -43. Try doing a repair install on iTunes from the "Add or Remove Programs" control panel.
The last failed audio CD burn had error code -128(0xffffff80). It happened on drive on -128(0xffffff80) media at speed 0X.

    hi TwinMom!
hmmmm. was this the solution you used?
(MS) CD-ROM access is missing and messages cite error Code 31, Code 32, Code 19, Code 39, or Code 41 after you remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP
i've seen a few follow up problems after applying that technique ... but usually they tend to involve this error message:
"Warning! The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs & DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes."
what you're getting is still consistent with that (in a sense), because you don't have any itunes-related filter entries showing up in your diagnostics.
so, let's start trying some techniques that have a reasonable track record against that error -43 that's showing up in your CD diagnostics.
first, try a reboot and repair. reboot the PC (very important), and then do a repair install of itunes. go to your Add/Remove programs, select itunes, click "change/remove" and then select "repair".
does that get rid of the -43?
can you burn a CD after doing that?
    love, b

  • Can't Burn disc in itunes 8.1

I have been searching high and low for an answer to this problem. all i get is a message that says "disc burner or software ot found".
I have tried editing registry, deleting .sys files. Nothing has worked.
Any answer to this problem would be helpful at this stage

I am having the same problem after the update to 8.1. It just happened that the first thing I tried after the update was burning a disc. Result: "disc burner or software not found."
So I tried running the CD Diagnostics (Help/Run Diagnostics) I followed the directions and inserted a prerecorded Audio CD. And it says "No Audio CD detected." But after I close the diagnostics iTunes recognized the CD, retrieved the titles and asked me if I wanted to import the songs!
So, I played the CD, which worked. Then I imported the songs; success! Then I ran the diagnostics again - "No Audio CD detected."
Very odd. I also would appreciate any answers that can be given to Biscuits' question.

Hi. I’m having some problems w/ an installation of iTunes on a Windows 64 bit PC.  Specifically, when iTunes is installed, Windows 7 no longer recognizes the optical drive, and I can't burn discs via iTunes.  I’ve attempted to implement all the solutions identified here,

  • Issues burning discs on iTunes/ error message about burn speed

I've never had problems burning discs on iTunes until today, I tried to burn one of my playlists on a Memorex CD-R.
    - The burn seemed to be going OK at first, but the drive started making an obnoxious, loud noise by the 4th song out of 16.
    - The progress bar in iTunes then said "burning disc, finalizing" even though the CD had not been finished.
    - The drive practically launches the CD out, causing it to drop, rather than ejecting half way and holding it like usual. An error message came up saying something along the lines of, "iTunes cannot burn this CD because the burn speed is too high for the CD drive or media. Lower the burn speed in the burning pane of preferences"
    - I tried it again without changing the burn speed (which I suppose was set to maximum) thinking it was something to do with the disc. The same thing happened the second time I tried to burn the disc. The reason I didn't change the burn speed when it asked me to was because I'd never been prompted about the burn speed and I've used the whole stack of these Memorex CD's without problems.
I am trying to figure out where the problem really lies - does this sound like an iTunes issue (which needs an update except that my system does as well), CD issue or a drive issue? Is there a more reasonable burn speed I should try next time?
Any help would be so appreciated, thank you!!

Try a different brand. Highly recommended:
    FUJI
    TDK
    Verbatim
Make sure the CDs are not dirty, smudged and/or scratched.

Your drive may need cleaning. Cleaning kits can be purchased from any store that sells CD/DVDs.

  • Can't burn CDs in iTunes

I can't burn CDs in iTunes. I get "The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (4261). I have tried to reduce the speed - didn't work. I have never had a problem before - but after I downloaded the new version of iTunes, I can't burn. I know the burner works because I can burn using NERO. Please help!

I'm assuming you have already resolved the issue, but if you have not, I would recommend that you uninstall iTunes completely and remove anything related to Apple on your computer including Quicktime. See this post for what you need to remove: http://mismike.blogspot.com/2008/03/itunes-wont-close-on-windows-xp-sp2.html. Good luck.

  • Device filter Problems, can't burn cds in iTunes, Blank CDs appear to have

Problem was first noticed because I can't burn CDs in iTunes.
The problem is that all blank CDs show that they have no space on them available. If I look at the properties of a blank CD, they show 0 bytes used, 0 bytes free and 0 bytes available.
By removing the upperfilters and lowerfilters in the registry, (accoring to the Microsoft prescribed method for this problem found at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060) the problem is solved for my whole sytem except for iTunes. iTunes then tells me that "the registry settings used by iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. ... Please reinstall iTunes."
I reinstall or repair iTunes and then iTunes opens fine but I can't burn with iTunes or any other program since I am back to all blank CDs showing there is no space available.
The iTunes toubleshooting Fac found at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302976 has been tried also and does not change the problem of blank CDs having no space available.

  • Can't burn CD in iTunes

I can't burn a CD in iTunes. I know it's not a hardware problem because I just successfully burned a disc of photos using Finder, but every time I try to burn a playlist in iTunes, it hangs during the "Initializing" stage. The drive spins up frighteningly loudly, to the point where it shakes my computer, and stays that way until I start to worry that it's doing damage and try to cancel the burn (which usually doesn't work and I end up shutting down my computer to get it to spit out the disc).
I've tried all the suggestions in a similar thread over in the iTunes for Windows department, plus others I've found elsewhere: I've reset my PRAM, repaired disc permissions, restarted more times than I can count, set the burn speed lower (8x and 2x), unchecked "Include CD Text" in the burn options. All my software is up to date. The only changes since I last burned a CD (which was probably months ago) have been an iTunes update and getting my failed hard drive replaced. I initially worried that had somehow damaged the burner, but as mentioned above I burned a CD in Finder, so everything seems to be working ok.
I did discover in System Profiler that if you insert a blank disc, it will tell you the available burn speeds, so here is the information I got from that:

    Overwritable: Yes
    Appendable: Yes
    Write Speeds: 10x, 16x, 24x
I just tried setting the speed to 16x in iTunes with this exact disc and encountered the same issue.
Does anyone have any new suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Pretty convinced it's software and not hardware at this point.

However, iTunes writes CD's normally.  It appears that only writing CD's from the finder does not work, so it is not the CD drive.

Not sure this is related, however, after Facebook went down for about 20 min, soon after so did my Gmail (6) , 1 iCloud account(s). It's been hit and miss on downloading my email, however if I went to the websites I finally was able to get email. Hey I can't burn my playlist to a CD. It always says "Checking Playlist", but then when it finished checking the playlist, iTunes just freezes. Click iTunes for Windows at the top of the screen and there should be a board called "CDDB\Importing\Burning" and there you should be able to get the proper help. The using iTunes board is for those having actual problems with the iTunes app like losing your sound or even having trouble opening iTunes. I accept that you are new to Discussions, and I suggest exploring a little bit! These discussions take some time to get used to. You'll have it soon!

    -54 is a Permissions error that's right ...
What are you trying to copy/burn ?
What version of Toast are you running ?
Remove the DivX QuickTime Plug-In and try burning again as it can mess up some burns ...
