Can't Burn "Imation DVD+R" on Macbook Pro

Hello, a couple of days ago I tried to burn some files on an "Imation DVD+R." I have an entire spindle of blank Imation DVD + R (Single Layered) and the computer refuses to burn any file on any of them. The discs themselves are in excellent condition.
When I used the "Finder Burner," I got the following error:
"The disc can't be burned, because the device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media."
When i used an application called "Burn" and the "Disc Utility," I got the follow error:
"The disc can't be burned; it might be incompatible with this disc drive. Please try a different brand of disc, or try burning at a slower speed."
I went to the Apple Store and told a Genius what was going on. He put a "Staple DVD-R" and it worked flawlessly. He told me that he believed I purchased a bad "spindle of discs" because "normally Imation works just fine." I went home and tried to burn a file on the disc using my mother's computer (a PC). The disc burned flawlessly. I have about 30 blank DVDs that remain in this spindle. I would hate to get rid of all of them. What worries me is that I think my computer once burned these Imation DVD+Rs just fine (like I said, I really don't remember.)
I called AppleCare and was transferred to a Senior Manager. He said for me to send my computer in and he'll replace the optical drive.
Before I do so, does anyone have any suggestions? Is anyone else unable to burn these Imation DVD+Rs?
Here are some specs on my computer:
- Macbook Pro (Late 2008)
- Snow Leopard (10.6.4)
- Optical Drive is "MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-868"
Thanks for any advice you can give me.
Best,
--André

A brief update:
I dropped my computer off to FedEx on Thurs. evening (6:30 pm) and received it back on Sat. morning (8:30 am). That was incredibly fast!
Anyway, the following parts were replaced.
- ODD Super Drive (Symptom: Optical Drive Read/Write Data Error)
- Main Logic Board 2.4Ghz (Symptom: Sensors Test Failed)
- Optical Cable (Symptom: Drive Read/Write Data Error)
Moral of the story: if a Genius finds a "work-around" a the problem rather than trying to determine the actual cause of the problem, call AppleCare. Do not be afraid to speak with a Senior Manager (because, in my cause, the normal AppleCare technician didn't think anything was wrong.)
Thanks again for your all help.
Best,
--AL

  • This is the same question I've asked 3x in 24 hours, but it doesn't appear in the listing. Maybe I need help in phrasing questions?:)Q. why can I play some DVDs on my MacBook Pro but not on desk top Apple (they're both -1 year olds

    Hi
This'll be my third attempt in 24 hrs to ask the same question. maybe I need guidance on phrasing questions?:)
    Q. Why can I always play DVDs on my MacBook Pro but not always on my desk top Apple. They're both less than  year old. The desk top sometimes displays a message that says I have to change regions (from Australia to South America...doh...)

    Region Code 4:
Mexico, Central and South America, and the South Pacific.
Includes Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Aruba, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, British Virgin Islands, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Falkland Islands, French Guiana, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, New Guinea, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay, Venezuela
Apparently my first response was off in left field.  The DVD player has its own code.  My recommendation is to change the code when it asks.  It is possible that the disks that play correctly are region-free and the ones that don't have a region code.  If this does not work, you still have four more changes available; you won't be stuck with the new code.

  • Sense Code Error 31000 while burning DL DVD Encore CS5 Macbook Pro

While attempting to burn a Dual Layer DVD on my Macbook Pro I got this error: "Sense Code 31000" just before it started to burn.
I changed the burn speed, verified my laptop burns DVD+R DL discs. Any help is much appreciated. Must burn a master to duplicated 100 dvds by Friday. Thanks!

    Hi,
Sense Code errors are hardware or blank media related.
Try to burn with other blank disc, if it does not work then the problem may be because of burner.
    Thanks,

  • Can't burn DSP project on new Macbook Pro

Bought a new Macbook Pro, 2.53 GHz Intel Core Duo w/4 gigs of memory as a backup to my old G5. I open an FCP project created on my power mac G5. It opens normally. I export via Compressor which goes as planned. I author a DVD is DSP 4. It plays fine in simulation mode. When I burn the DVD there are loads of blackouts, most chapters have no audio, and the dvd players will even stall and lock up. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Frank.

Using DVD SP 4 (4.1.2, 2005-2007). Output from FCP (5.1.4) via Compressor using DVD Best Quality, 4x3, 120 min, 2.5 Mbps 2 pass. Burned with DVD SP4. Simulation mode in DVD SP works fine. Burned disc has trbl in all dvd players as well as the Mac DVD players in my Macbook and my Power PC G5 (2004). I just opened same project on my G5, burned, and that disc works on all players.
    I'm assuming my DVD SP4 is a non-UB version.
    Thanks, Frank

  • HT1338 How can I burn a DVD to my hard disc?

I wanto to burn a DVD into my Macbook pro hard disc and I can find a way to do so.
Does anyone have a answer for that?
    Thanks  lot.
    Jucasom

If you mean to burn a disk using your mac, you have two options.
    1) If you just need to burn the files (this will not automattically playback in a dvd player) than go to finder, click File and select 'New Burn Folder' . Add your files to the folder and then insert your dvd and burn.
    2) If you have a video you want to playback on a dvd player then you must use iDvd to setup the movie and burn using iDvd.
    Hope this helped.
