Can't burn movie

Hello all:
I've assembled a 1:46 minute movie, the file size of which is just under 25 GB. The partition on which the movie resides has over 40 GB free space. When I attempt to burn the movie using iDVD, I get the following message: "Multiplexer preparation error: Not enough free disk space for encoding the remaining assets." I've redone this film twice, thinking the first time I might have inadvertently screwed something up. I was extremely careful in doing the second assembly, but I still get the same message. Do I actually need more free space for this operation? I've stripped nearly everything off the partition I can, so I really hope more space is not what's needed. I assume/hope I just messed something up. What can anyone tell me?
Thanks in advance . . .

  • Can't burn movie over 2 hours

I have a movie that is 2 hr 23 min. In iMovie HD 6.0.4, I added chapters every 15 minutes. When I import into iDVD 7.0.4, of course it says that the project is too big. I change to "Double-Layer 7.7 GB" I also change Encoding to "Professional Quality" or "High Quality" and the Capacity bar says Total: 143 min 4.52 GB & the color drops down about a 1/3. I add a couple pictures for the menus and take away the button pictutes. When I try to burn, the Capacity bar completely fills up, but only says 7.64 GB. The disc does not finish burning before being ejected and will not work in a DVD player. Also, when I save the project, the chapter fonts revert to default & some of the button window panes come back. I can change & save over & over with the same reversions still taking place.
I have tried saving to different sizes. Original file was 6 GB mp4. I have tried getting the file down to 2 GB mov and 1.62 GB mov, but still doesn't work. I tried reducing resolution & bit rate. I have not as of yet tried fps. Is there a particular trick I need to do? What other options can I try? I read that other people have been able to burn longer movies - up to 3 hours?

Hi james - welcome to the discussions.
One reason for this error is that your hard drive is getting full. before DVDSP writes to disc it creates a copy of the build files in a location you specify. Have you got enough room on your drive?
The second thing to try is to encode these movies before you bring them in to DVDSP - this will give you a far more accurate idea of the file sizes you are dealing with. You should certainly be able to get your project onto a DVD-R with such a low bitrate, but you are likely to lose quality doing so. You can also afford to raise that bitrate slightly. If you encode the audio to AC3 you will free even more room for the video and you could get away with 2.5 as a setting... still woefully low for DV material.
Your options are therefore to either use DL DVD-R, or encode using MPEG1, or encode using MPEG2 at Half D1 resolution.

  • Idvd can't burn .mov with error message

    Hi guys,
I just finished a 57 min. project with Final Cut Express4 containing 8 sequences. I export them separately.  I burned them with idvd : File>Export>Quick Time Movie (self contained uncheck), I include Audio & Video as usual and save them in the Movie Folder as .mov; everything goes fine and I can watch them both in computers and TVs. But when I export the entire project with chapter markers (exactly the same way I did for the above), the result is different, and the idvd refuse to burn it, an error message says ”unsupported file type: broken reference movie”.   Those exported in separate sequences are shown as .mov with a picture icon in my Movie Folder while the other 2 exported with chapter markers are also shown with .mov but with a QuickTime Movie icon.  Although these with Quick Time Movie icon are not accepted by the idvd, I still can burn them through the dvdproj file, but the product can be played with computers only.
I know I must have done something wrong but I don’t know what it’s.  Some one is kind enough to help please.
    Thank you.

First of all, thank you folks for the responds.  I check back as suggested and found the following: -
    Hi Al
All the Chapters Markers are more than 2 seconds apart and are more than 2 seconds from start points; all sequences are well butted without any gap in between.  However there are markers marked a few frames after the sequences started, which means the previous sequence ended a few frames before the Chapter Markers.  If this is overlap, what should I do from here?  Please walk me through.  Thank you again.  puisum
    Hi MartinR
I am sure you read my response to Alchroma. You both having valuable points.  Now, this is a very good question “if I nest the sequences”. To be honest with you, I am not 100% sure what I did (because this project have been sitting in my computer for 9 months) I but I think I start the entire project with only one sequence at the beginning and I use copy & paste to make the 8 sequences after I put in the chapter makers.  At this point, I have found some problems on the Chapter Markers and I am sure Alchroma doesn’t mind to walk me through then I will take it from there.  Please don’t give up on me yet.  Thank you in anticipation.  puisum

  • Can't burn movie to dvd

I just made a movie in "imovie" and all I want to do is burn it do a dvd......but how do I do this?  I don't seem to have idvd.....so when I go to share - idvd - it seems to render it (as it takes about 9 minutes)....but then nothing.
Please help.  I just want to burn my movie onto a dvd....but I can't find idvd anywhere.

    Hi
There are two kinds of DVDs that You can burn/create with the same sort of DVD that You bought.
    • Data-DVD - When DVD is seen on DeskTop and files added to this ===> Result is a Data-DVD and this can only be read by a computer - no DVD-Player can play it
    • Video-DVD - Is the kind of DVDs that plays on DVD-players and to do this You must use a Video-encoding-burning program as iDVD or Roxio Toast™ or DVD-Studio Pro. It encodes the video in a proper way but also it structures the material in a way a DVD-Player can use. Can not be done (as far as I know of) via DeskTop/Finder.

  • How can I burn Movie clips to Lightroom using DVD-RW disk

I have edited a file containg 2 dozen still photos and 7 movie clips. Although I can burn the still photos by clicking on EXPORT  I am later told (but not the reason why) that the Movie clips did not successfully burn to disk.

AFAIK, there's no way to do that with Premiere Pro.  You can probably find a utility on the Internet that will change the dates for you after the fact.

  • I can't burn movie to dvd on idvd

I have completed my movie and I am ready to burn but when I insert the blank disk it tells me that I need to enter a recordable dvd.  I have tried several new disks and it keeps telling me the same thing on all.

Where are you getting this mesage, in iDVD?  What happens if you insert the disk while in the Finder?  Do you get the same message? If so them it might be a problem with your optical drive.

  • Can't burn movies on DVD anymore with '08

I'm unhappy with not being able to burn a DVD after preparing an iMovie of vacation, family etc. There seems to be some inbetween stages that I have to go through which I don't understand. The focus appears to be on just making movies for the web with the new '08. Anybody have a better understanding of how to simply create movies for home use to play on TV?

iMovie 08 is a wonderful program assuming that you're using it for what it was designed to do, assemble simple videos to share on the Internet.
I use iMovie 06 (with iDVD 08) if I think I will ever put a movie on a DVD. When you're ready to make a DVD just share to iDVD 08, unlike iMovie 08, iMovie 06 has "Share to iDVD" built in! iMovie 06 has Chapter marking built-in also, a few clicks and you have Chapters and sharing with iDVD.

  • Can I burn an iTunes movie to DVD?

I have an older powerbook g4 with dvd burner but can't seem to burn movie from itunes. Anyone have suggestions? Thanks

You can only burn movies to a backup DVD in iTunes; they cannot be burned to a video DVD. If the movie isn't DRM protected, use software such as iMovie and iDVD to create a video DVD of it.

  • How can I burn more than 1 movie to a DVD when there is room on the disc for it. Premiere wants to overwrite once 1 movie is burned to the disc

How can I burn more than 1 movie onto a DVD? Once 1 movie is burned successfully to the disc, I try to burn another movie and Premiere wants to overwrite the first movie. One movie is 1.2 GB, second is 2.3; so there is room on a 4.7 GB DVD-RW.

What you report is what it is.
Each burn to of Timeline content to DVD-VIDEO format on DVD disc results in the disc containing one OpenDVD Folder and one VIDEO_TS Folder.
Only one VIDEO_TS Folder can be put on a DVD-VIDEO disc even when Premiere Elements is not involved. I have seen that written about online, and I have
never found a way to overcome what seems to be basic behavior description of DVD-VIDEO..
Premiere Elements will allow you to write to a disc with content already on it, but only after you give the OK for erasing the disc content before going ahead
    with the burn to.
If you have several movies, one possibility is to build a Timeline with the movies, use stop markers, and setup disc menus according so that the viewer
can selectively watch the movies. More on that later if wanted.
Any questions or need clarification, please ask.
    Thank you.

  • Can't burn iMovie3 movie on iDVD3

I've used iMovie3 to make a short (3 min) film, but can't figure out how to burn it. I followed the instructions (several times) by clicking on the iDVD button and hit "create a new iDVD project." The quiet "gerbil" sounds ensued for about 2-3 minutes. But nothing appears to have been transferred, so nothing can be burned. I'm using OSX tiger. Any advice? Should I upgrade to iLife 6.0? I've always struggled with iDVD which seems counterintuitive at virtually every step.

    Hi, Whitewater.
Are your movie files stored on an external hard drive? If so, I have the same problem with iMovie3 with movie files that don’t share the same space as the iMovie3 and iDVD3 applications. My workaround is to copy the movie file (and all it’s contents, media, etc.) back to my hard drive first. Then iDVD launches from iMovie just fine. Seems like the movie files and the application need to share the same drive in order to “talk” to each other.
Note: Once iDVD is launched you won’t be able to burn the dvd until the entire file is done encoding. This can take a while depending on the size of your movie. You can check the progress of this in iDVD by selecting the Customize button and the Status tab. The upside is that you can have fun with themes and settings while you wait!

Re-Toast DVD - is it the same as IDVD - That is can you burn a number of .mov slide shows on the same disk?  Thank you

Toast can author and burn video DVDs but it's not nearly as versatile as iDVD is in creating video DVDs.  Toast can only create one menu so all items must be on it, i.e. no sub-menus, no animated menus, etc.

I'm using the burner utility that came with the computer. The video is on I took with my small camera. I'm using a DVD-r disc and I drag the file to the disc icon then hit burn and everything seems ok. I can remove the disc and put it back in and see the file but if I put it in a DVD player it won't play, just get error message.

  • Can I burn hd home movies to dvd in itunes after importing them into my itunes library

Can I burn to dvd, HD home movies from a HD camera in itunes after importing them in my itunes library

I don't have iTunes set to manage my music but if I move an item to the trash that is the file iTunes uses, it will still play in iTunes until I empty the trash.  Of course at that point it is permanently gone so if that was my keeper file then I have messed up.
One overlying recommendation is to back up your computer before doing the editing.  If you make a mistake you can always go back and try again.
