Can't calculate "a to the power of b"???????

I thought a^b gives a to the power of b, but somehow it doesn't.
449^2 gives me 451...
Is my syntax wrong? Or is something else going wrong?
I'm running J2SE 1.4.0.1 on AMD AthlonXP 1500+.

a^b is manipulating bits, that's not what you want. Do this:
Math.pow(a, b);

  • How can I calculate which is the index (x-value) correspondant to a certain value of a signal?

I just want to calculate the quality of the peak in a FFT, defined as you can see in the attached file.
For that, I would need to know how can I calculate in Labview the index or indices (x-value) correspondant to a certain amplitude value of the function.
Kind regards, and thank you for reading,

If you know the lineshape (e.g. Lorentzian), you can use nonlinear fit. This will give you the most accurate value.
In the most simple case (insignificant offset and noise, no other peaks) you can apply the following code (if there are other peaks, then take a apropriate array subset before applying the code). To get correct units, just scale with df.
LabVIEW Champion . Do more with less code and in less time .

  • Power manager doesn't display - so I can't get rid of the power change beep...

    Hi everybody,
I just got the X200 laptop, like it very much except for the annoyingly loud beep when the system goes into stand-by. Looking trough this forum I tried many things, like changing the sound settings in regedit to 'no' and disabling the 'beep' plugin in the system settings. No luck so far. An other solution (that sounds useful) is disabling the 'beep on power changes' option in the Power Manager. But...when I open the Power Manager, it displays the welcome/info screen and then disappears! How can I get into the Power Manager??
    Hope someone can help...
    Cheers,
    Hanneke

That's a strange one. Run Thinkvantage System Update, or just download and install most recent PM driver and software. Maybe refreshing these will give you PM back. Otherwise, I believe you may also have a setting in the BIOS for the beep. Not in front of my X100 now, but I know I have this setting on my X60s.

  • My iphone stopped working, and I can't just hold down the power and lock button at the same time, because my lock button doesn't work?

So usually when my iphone would stop working I would just press down on the lock and home button, and then the Apple logo would appear.
However, my lock button stopped working a while ago..
If I go to the Apple store can I get them to fix my lock button, without deleting any of my phone content?

Apple will not fix the lock button, they will replace the phone for $149. You should back up your phone so you can restore its content to the replacement. If it doesn't show up in iTunes, hope you have a previous backup on your computer or iCloud.

  • HT1212 i have a problem, my iphone is disabled and i can not get into it. the power button does not work and the computer i used before i do not have. icloud was not set up on it either. And it will not allow me to connect to my itunes. So what can i do t

i have read ur forgotten password or device disabled after entering wrong password. iphone is desabled dont have computer i conected it to before and power button is broke so how can i get back into my iphone?

You will have to restore the phone and set up as New. See: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212. The part you need is near the bottom, "If you have never synced your device with iTunes...". You will lose any content that is not backed up in iCloud.

  • Can Dasylab calculate mean and median power frequency of EMG? And how?

I got a set of consecutive EMG signals. Can I get the mean and median power frequency by just using Dasylab software?
If the answer is yes, how can I get them? Thank you in advance!

    Dear Mr. Wei-Jie Fu,
I found a lot of special article for EMG, mean and median power frequency with Google search. So I think there are special algorithm necessary to figure out the correct informations. I think we don't have a useful result based on DASYLab standard modules for your application. If you have an algorithm in C/C++ so it's general possible to design an payed Extension Toolkit module for this job for you.

  • Itunes still doesn't pick up my phone when I connect it to the computer. And I can't reset it with the power button because its broken. so can someone tell me how i can make itunes pick my phone up if thats possible

it says its in recovery mode but idk for sure

iPod touches or any iDevices from Apple sync only to one computer. If you sync to a different computer, all your music will be replace with the music from the new computer's iTunes. If the music were purchased from iTunes, you can re-download them again otherwise the music on iPod touch will be deleted. Do you have iTunes backup?

  • I can't restart without pushing the power button on the front of my G4Tower

When I try to restart from the apple menu or the sys prefs the menu bar goes away, the sundry icons go away and the dock goes away leaving me looking at my desktop picture. But nothing happens after that. It just sits there being a very expensive picture viewer. I recently installed Tiger on both my internal and external hard drives; but since the sys prefs restart won't work then I can't change my startup disk either. I need to be able to use the external for some activities requiring transfer of old OS 9 files since I still can't get OS 9 to start on the internal and can't, now, try to work it from the external because the restart button won't work. I was going to archive and install Tiger on the internal but there wasn't enough room. I would wipe the internal if I was sure I could start from the external but am becoming dubious about that also. It is hard to save my stuff and start over when nothing wants to work correctly. Please help before I teach my tower to fly.

  • What is the best video card I can install if I change the power supply

Right now the processor is i7 2600 which is still pretty fast around 8300 but the video card is a radeon 5770.
I would like to know could I go to a GTX 780 with the right power supply

    Hi,
You want to put a Ferrari engine in a Volkswagen and expect to hit top speed?  It's not going to happen.
You need to size the hardware with your application requirements and then determine if your consumer level motherboard will meet your performance expectations.

  • IOS 7:  it is eating my battery!  What can be done to slow the power drain?

It has taken 10% of my battery just to log in and ask this question!

I installed IOS 7.02 and then did a full reset (Erase all content and settings - after backing up onto cloud) and my battery life seems to be back to what it was pre-IOS 7.  Granted I do still have the parallelax background disabled, but I'm satisfied with the results.  It did take a little time to restore from iCloud but the battery life gain was worth the time.

  • Can BT sport run through the power adapter connect...

I am running BT vision through powerline adapters but have ordered BT sport. Will it work?
    I am currently getting ESPN.
Clicking on BT sport etc gets a message saying I am not in and Infinity area... but I have it? Do i need the Cat5 link to be installed?

The broadband channels will work through powerline adapters, however it's not recommended and not supported.  If you do this you could experience poor performance when watching broadband-based channels.

  • How can I reboot my Ipad when I do not have access to the power off screen?

My device slide off my couch while in its cover. IT was working afterwards, for about 5 min. I sat it down while I took something out of the oven and was back maybe 5min. or so later. When i try to access it, all I see is a black screen. I cannot unlock it or even power off. How can I reboot it without the power off swipe ?

Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reboot/Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10-15 seconds).
Restore: Connect your iPhone to iTunes on your computer, backup, and then select Restore to Factory

  • HT4060 Hi, i have been charging my ipad for 4 days now yet the power stays the same at 5%. They ipad shows the charging flash yet seems not to be charging. Can anyone please help?

Hi, i have been having problems charging my ipad3 for some time now (very slow). The power is now down to 5% and i have been charging it for 4 days now without any movement. The charging flash is showing yet does not seem to be charging. Please can anyone help.

Are you trying to charge it plugged into the wall with its supplied power brick? It's best charged that way.
You can try to swap out the power brick and cable to either rule those out or rule them in as the issue.
You can also try giving your iPad a reset. Hold down the sleep and home keys until you see the silver apple. Let it reboot and try again.

  • My MacBook Pro won't shutdown and can't force it to turn off using the power button.  My computer is few months new and this is the second time that I have problems.... hate it!

  • Mac Pro overheating; can I replace the power unit fan?

After much strange behavior with my MacPro2,1 model I installed Hardware Monitor and discovered that the temperature readings for some of my Memory Modules and for the sensors on the Power Supply location 1 and Power Supply location 2 are very high.  With no load the temperature is reading about 62° C on the "Power Supply Location 1" sensor and 85-90° on "Power Supply Location 2" sensor.  I installed smcFanControl and found that I could cool the Memory Modules but even with all fans set on maximum speed the Power Supply temperatures droped only slightly to about 78- 80° C.  All of the fans increased their RPM except for the "Power Supply Fan" which remains at 599 RPM no matter how high you set the Power Supply fan on smcFanControl.
All this leads me to suspect that the Power Supply Fan is either not running at all or is not able to accelerate in response to high temperatures in the power supply area.
    My questions are these:
        1. Can I visually confirm that the power unit fan is not working?  That is, what do I need to do to actually visualize this fan in question and see if it is running?  Is there another way to confirm that the fan is bad aside from just inferrring this from the high temperatures and findings in smcFanControl?
        2. Is fan replacement a job that I could reasonably expect to perform myself or do I need to take it to an Apple repair shop?  I have replaced hard drives and RAM in Powerbooks and a Mac Mini, installed PCI cards, etc.
        3.  Are there diagrams and/or instructions for doing this sort of thing?
    Thanks.

If you  only have one DVD drive, you can shine a bright light straight back through the lower drive area where you'll see a screen with fan blades behind it at the rear end of the SuperDrive cage. That's the power supply fan at the front of the power supply. You should be able to see it spin when you power up. I found that smcFanControl couldn't control the PS fan on my Mac Pro 1,1 either (it does work on the 5,1's PS fan). If you remove the SuperDrive carrier, you can get directly at the PS fan for more effective dust removal.
Diagrams and instructions for how to do that and much more can be found here http://tim.id.au/laptops/apple/macpro/ which is a source of Service Manuals. X423424X gets the credit for posting that link; I just bookmarked it.
