Can't Canon raw pics get imported into iPhoto easily?

I bought a new Canon T5i and took some great shots of my kids in Raw format, supposedly the best way to shoot. Nobody told me that importing them to my Macbook Air would be such trouble. I've connected the camera to my Mac (OS 10.6.8) with iPhoto 9.2.3 and yet iPhoto won't import my .cr2 files. It's killing me. Please help. This shouldn't be so difficult, right?

Since every single RAW is different you must verify that your specific RAW is suppoprted for your OS and your version of iPhoto  since you are years behind on OS upgrades you porbalby have no support for the latest RAW formats
here is the OS X 10.6 RAW support list - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3825?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US - I do not see the T5i on it  --  it is supported under Mt Lion - you need to upgrade you OS

  • Videos shot on my iPhone 3GS aren't getting imported into iPhoto

Videos I've shot on my iPhone 3GS aren't importing into iPhoto - but the photos are. Noticed this a few weeks ago, believe it occurred as a result of my migration from my old MBP to my new one in mid Jan of this year. Did a rebuild of iPhoto, killed the iPod Photo Cache, to no avail. I had been noticing an issue during the sync process, toward the end, I'd get some message that the "iPhone file 'iPhone' can't be found. Googled and saw that I should kill the iPod Photo cache and turn off "manually manage music and videos." This fixed the "file iPhone not found" issue. I killed all the photos and videos in my camera roll (none show up when I select iPhone in the iPhoto window - so a remaining corrupted photo isn't the issue) and then took a photo and video. The photo imports but not the video. Ideas?
Also, another question, If I go back to manually managing music and videos, then go back to the iPhoto tab in iTunes and select which albums from iPhoto to sync back to my iPhone, is it possible to sync videos (originally shot on my iPhone) back to my iPhone? I want to create an album in iPhoto titled "iPhone Videos."

Thanks for your reply, Graham. I actually solved it last night after 3 hours of fiddling with it. Cleared the photos out of my iPhone, cleaned up and reorganized my photos in iPhoto (deleted & recreated albums), deselected and reselected "manually manage music and videos" in iTunes, deleted iPod Photo Cache (again), rebuilt my iPhoto database and something out of this mix worked.
Something interesting happened when I opened iTunes (w/ iPhone docked) - it asked me to select my photo library (or something to that effect). When I selected "iPhoto Library" it gave me a dialog box saying this isn't the the library that was being synced (not the exact words, but close). I went ahead with it. The weird thing is that the library I selected is my only one - the one I've always used, so not sure what's up with that. Anyway, something worked. Photos and videos are all in the right place. Videos are also now syncing to iPhoto from my iPhone.

  • Raw files for Canon 6D cannot be imported into iphoto or aperture.

How can I open Canon 6D raw images, its rubbish that I cannot use my mac for opening and seeing these files or my FujiX10 raw files?

    John, some questions...
Are the images on an external or the internal of another computer?
Are you dragging them from the other computer to your desktop, then trying to import them into iPhoto?
Have you tried created a new library and importing them into that?
Have you tried creating a new administrative user, open iPhoto and try importing the images into that new library?
I forgot if you mentioned this, but are the images jpg?
    If not, what are they?
On the other hard drive is there an iPhoto (you mentioned that)? Have you opened that iPhoto and imported the images into that library?

  • I can´t see the pics I imported into my podcast when I export to iTunes

After making a podcast with pics, I was unable to view the podcast with itunes - I could only hear the audio tracks - but no pics - who can help me?

When you export to iTunes, you have to use the AAC compression, neither MP3 nor uncompressed AIFF will contain the pics.
Alternatively, select "Export to disk", and the podcast will be saved in AAC format by default.

  • Where can I find my photos I've imported into iPhoto in Finder

Can anyone tell me where to find the physical location of my pictures that I've imported into iPhoto?

I've backed up my MacBook with Time Machine because I've just purchased a new MacBook Air. Since I have less hard drive space I wanted to transfer only some of the pictures.
    Be very careful now.
Time Machine is a rolling back up. It's not an archive. If you restore only part of the Library then eventually the remainder of the Library will be deleted.
To do what you want you'll need an external Hard Drive not used for Time Machine.
Here's one way to do what you want:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
Now you have two full versions of the Library.
    3. On the Internal library, trash the Events you don't want there
Now you have a full copy of the Library on the External and a smaller subset on the Internal
    Some Notes:
As a general rule: when deleting photos do them in batches of about 100 at a time. iPhoto can baulk at trashing large numbers at one go.
You can choose which Library to open: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
You can keep the Library on the external updated with new imports using  iPhoto Library Manager
As to the location of the Photos:
By default, your photos are stored in the  iPhoto Library in your Pictures Folder.
Since iPhoto 7 (iLife 08) the old iPhoto Library Folder is a Package File. This is simply a folder that +looks+ like a file in the Finder. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves.
Want to look inside?  Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Standard Warning:  Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things,, deleting them or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
    FYI:
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • I have a large number of photos imported into iPhoto with the dates wrong.  How can I adjust multiple photos (with varying dates) to the same, correct, date?

I have a large number of photos imported into iPhoto with the dates wrong.  How can I adjust multiple photos (with varying dates) to the same, correct, date?

If I understand you correctly, when you enter a date in the Adjust Date and Time window, the picture does not update with the date you enter.  If that is the case then something is wrong with iPhoto or your perhaps your library.
How large a date change are you putting in?  iPhoto currently has an issue with date changes beyond about 60 years at a time.  If the difference between the current date on the image and the date you are entering is beyond that range that may explain why this is not working.
If that is not the case:
Remove the following to the trash and restart the computer and try again:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.iphoto
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.iPhoto (There may be more than one. Remove them all.)
---NOTE: to get to the "home > library" hold down option on the keyboard and click on "Go" > "Library" while in the Finder.
    Let me know the results.

  • After upgrading to MAC OS X 10.10.2 Lightroom 5 has an error that it cannot read the card when trying to import photos.  The card is fine as I can import into iPhoto so any ideas?

After upgrading to MAC OS X 10.10.2 Lightroom 5 cannot read the card (RAW files , converting to DNG) when importing.  The card is fine as I can import into iPhoto - any ideas?

It’s usually necessary to trash the prefs after updating OSX to Yosemite. Start by quitting Lightroom 5.
Launch Finder and click the Go menu whilst holding down the Option (alt) key. Then go to:
    Library >> Preferences
clear everything relating to LR5 which usually means deleting the following files:
    com.adobe.Lightroom5.plist
    com.adobe.Lightroom5LSSharedFileList.plist
    Then re-launch Lightroom.

  • Can animated titles created in Titlemotion imported into Premiere Pro CS3?

    Hi,
We are using Titlemotion Software(Standalone Version)for creating animated titles.
We would want to use these animations into Premiere Pro CS3.
We can save the animations made in Titlemotion as
    1) an FX-script,
    2) a targa sequence &
    3) a '.VIA' format.
'VIA' files created in Titlemotion do not get imported into Premiere Pro CS3, Premiere Pro informs that they are not supported.
Is there any way to import a .VIA file into Premiere Pro CS3?
    OR
Is there any work-around wherein animations created in Titlemotion Pro could be taken into Premiere Pro CS3?

Save as a targa sequence with an alpha channel.

  • How can I import into iPhoto, from my iPad, albums created on the iPad using Photos App ?

I take about 300 photos a day using my iPad, as i'm filming to help keep continuity.
I then create albums under the scene number from some of the photos taken. Eventually i will build up all of the scene numbers in the script.
I want to import into iPhoto all of these albums.
    How can this be done?
For some reason, when i plug my iPad into the laptop, it won't import screen grabs or all of the photos.
So the fact i have tried to be super organised, the apple software is now letting me down !
Can albums created in the iPad now be imported into iPhoto as albums to keep my organisation ?
    Thanks.

That is not a feature of iPhoto - suggest to Apple - iPhoto Menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback.
With the new Photo app later this year the integration between IOS and the Mac will be much greater

I can't rename a group I imported into my address book...It just says "last import" and in the menu it is not available to choose....

Have you tried opening Address Book from either the dock or from the Applications folder? Address Book is a separate application (although it works together with Mail), so you can just open it without opening Mail.

I am halfway through my 4s contract and wanted to buy a 5, but only see the 64 gig available to me for 649 but that requires a 2 year contract. Where can I buy w ou getting locked into a contract and for how much?

Your contract is with your service provider - it has nothing at all to do with Apple.
You can buy a contract free and/or unlocked iPhone from Apple and use it with whatever carrier you wish.  Your contract terms with your current service provider remain in effect for your iPhone 4s though, so if you cancel with them (or port your number out, which accomplishes the same thing) you will owe them early termination fees and so forth.
Even if you pay full retail but want to use the phone with your current service provider, you are still obligated to complete the terms of your existing contract.

  • CR2 files won't import into iPhoto

Have recently done a photographic course and was advised to shoot in RAW from now on.  Just taken a load of pictures in RAW using a Canon 70D).  But when I try to import them, I get this message:
"The following file could not be imported.  The file is in an unrecognized format."
I'm using iPhoto 9.2.3 on an iMac using OS X 10.6.8.
Canon's own software will imprt them but I can't get them into iPhoto.
    Any suggestions gratefully received.

    Hi Rudegar
Followed your advice and looked at Genieo.  But this seems to be a front for an alternative web browser. Indeed I'm wondering whether it could be malware because now I can't get rid of it!  Every time I drag it from the Applications folder to the Trash bin I get this message:
I've shut down the computer and restarted it.  I've dragged all the elements to the Trash bin - and now it won't allow me to empty it - instead I get this message:
    So, now 2 questions:
Is there a particular CR2 you would recommend?
And, how do I get rid of this new stuff?
    Many thanks.

  • Import into Iphoto Over a NAS Drive

This has me stumped (but keep in mind I'm an absolute newbie at this).
I have two Macs set up in my house, a Pro (running aperture) and a Macbook Pro (running Iphoto) both of which are the latest versions.  I am also running the latest version of Lion on both machines.
Both the Iphoto Library and Aperture Library are referenced wherein all the photo images (jpeg and RAW) are stored on a NAS drive communicating over the AFP protocol.
I have a Canon EOS Rebel t2i and an Olympus Tough both of which have Eye.fi SD Cards both eye.fi cards are scheduled to transfer jpeg and RAW photos onto my NAS Drive into the photos directory into a sub-folder created by the eye.fi program (by the way, I also tried this withoug sub-directories and the same problem persists).
I have no problem manually importing images into Aperture (I know of Aperture Hotfolder, but it's just slow), however I would like to automatically import any photos transferred onto my NAS drive directly into the referenced Iphoto Library on the MacBook Pro (this is my wife's computer and she has no interest in switching no Aperture).
I created a very simple 'Folder Action' on the MacBook Pro which looks at the photo directory on the NAS Drive and then set the folder action to 'Import into Iphoto'.  I actually had this work.  In fact it worked so well it would actually update and import images into Iphoto if I altered them in Photoshop.  It was beautiful.
However, it no longer works (and it stopped working prior to the Lion installation) and if I really really really try to make it work (by literally deleting the folder action and re-creating it), it only works occassionally and with very mixed results.
So I guess the question is ultimately this:  is there an apple script/hot folder action/automator action that will take any photo added to the Photos directory of my NAS Drive and then automatically import the photos into iPhoto?
Again, forgive my newbie ignorance, if you have any followup questions, I will happily respond to get this working all the time.

    Pete:
a quick perl script is all that is needed.
That may do it but I'd have a backup of both your source files and the library just in case it doesn't go as intended.
One way you could start over with a new library and keep the keywords, comments and titles as well as the events would be to run iPhoto Library Manager on the library as described in Tutorial #1. Then delete the current referenced library, create a new manage one and import the source files. That will give you the keywords, titles, comments and an event for each folder of the source files.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

    Anybody noticing the same issue?

    hi djiti,
    DXO up to date,
    Lion up to date,
iPhoto up to date (? I want to hear you say yes),
    I am at a loss.
Some apps do not read the same info in the same place in the exif: iPhoto reads the "Creation Date" from "modification date" created in another app, for example; I use "A Better Attributes" app, to change the Exif in that case. But I have never seen that the Exif is "corrupted" by a photo app.
Lex (I use iPhoto, and Photoshop Lightroom, know about DxO and Aperture but only a little experience)
