Can't capture audio in  stereo pair

I have FCE HD 3.0 and the audio capture default has always been stereo pair. Just now, since having to trash preferences, the default capture is now mono. Thanks to the forum, I know how to modify>link stereo in the timeline, but could anyone explain how I could reset preference to capture audio stereo?

You can't.

  • Premiere Pro Can Capture Only One Stereo Pair?

I'm thinking of getting PPro CS 5.5, so I'm reading the Help file to learn about it first and I came across this listed under "Importing Digital Audio":
    1) "Although the DV format can record two independent stereo audio pairs, Premiere Pro can capture only one stereo pair.
It may be possible to select either stereo pair 1, stereo pair 2, or a mix of both, depending on the DV hardware you use."
Does this mean if I have 2 mic's connected to my camera, PPro can only capture 1 stereo pair or the other or a "mix" of both?  What does that mean?
Would I be able to edit both stereo pairs as separate tracks on the timeline?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Harm,
The specs on the Canon HV20 say DV can do 2  channels in 16 bit mode and 4 channels in 12 bit mode.
But I want to start using HDV, which can only do 2 channels in 16 bit mode.  HDV uses MPEG-1 Audio Layer 2, 16 bit, 48 kHz, transfer rate 384 kbps (2 channels).
The DV settings are PCM digital sound with 2 modes: 16 bit, 48 kHz/2 channels and in 12 bit mode is 32 kHz/4 channels.
Is a "stereo pair" 2 channels?

  • I can't select "audio output stereo" on a track in the arrange window

When I create a new song, in the Arrange window I can
choose "audio output stereo" for a given track, and
access the mixer's output from there. Fab.
When I open a song that I oringally created using Logic 5,
"audio output stereo" does not appear.
Is this something about the file format?
    (a) is there something simple to do to enable that for
older songs, or (b) is there a way to convert older song files to LE7?
    thanks,
    fred, san rafael.

    Sorry, je suis un idiot.
FYI. I went into the Environment window and found "Output 1-2"
to be un-checked. Checking it now makes "audio output stero" an available option in that song.
    Thanks for listening.

  • How can I capture Audio Only?

    Hello,
I have FCEHD 3.0 and would like to capture audio tracks only with Capture Now (from a non-controllable device via Canopus). There is no "Audio Only" option in the capture window. Any ideas??
    Thanks,
    C.J

    Hi(Bonjour)!
No way to capture audio only with capture command.
Simply delete the video track in the timeline.
    Or:
Plug your camcorder audio output in your in-line socket on your mac with an audio 1/8" wire, do a voice over record.
The resulting audio file will be a "analog" one.
You can also use a sound editing programm like Sound studio or audacity to capture your audio-in content, and import the resulting file in FCE.

  • Can I capture audio at 24 bit using MOTU HDX-SDI?

I am trying to capture 8 bit uncompressed AVI files with 24 bit audio using Adobe Premiere CS6 and a MOTU HDX-SDI. I have set the MOTU audio settings to 24 bit via Premiere before the capture.
The resulting capture file using Adobe Premiere contains 32 bit audio not 24. The 16 bit setting captures correctly to 16 bit. Can the audio be captured at 24 bit using this interface with Adobe Premiere?
I have contacted MOTU and they claim that the audio is captured at 24 bit regardless.  Is Premiere upconverting the bit depth?
I am using ffprobe, mediainfo, AVI-Metaedit, and Premiere to examine the metadata in the captured file.
    I'm using Adobe Premiere CS6 6.0.5
    Windows 7 64-bit.
    Thanks

Premiere is not upconverting the bit depth on those files upon import.
It doesn't change the original file, it creates new files, called Conformed Audio and using the .cfa extension, at 32 bit floating-point bit depth.  PP uses those CFA files for the actual audio work inside the program and when exporting.  The only thing it really does with the original audio files is read them for the conforming process.

  • How can I export 6 mono tracks and a one track two channel stereo pair in a quicktime as separate tracks?

I'm using Premiere Pro CC 2014 (8.1) and need to export a 5.1 mix as well as the stereo tracks as 7 separate tracks in a quicktime. If I select 8 channels it automatically creates 8 tracks. Also, if I export the the seventh stereo track as mono track won't it play mono?
Thanks in advance for nay help you can offer.
    -Sam

    Hi Richard and Kevin.
First of all thanks so much for the response and info. Just to clarify, you're saying I will need  8 tracks, 2 of which will be designated for the stereo pair, right? My concern is that I'm supposed to deliver only 7 tracks. They want the stereo pair as separate channels on one track. I'm wondering if I can create a one track stereo pair and put it on a stereo track, then export only the seven mono tracks (plus an empty track). Would the stereo still work?
Thanks for the link to the previous post. I had actually read it and though it was helpful in explaining how to set up the audio tracks I was still confused about the export.
    Much thanks,
    Sam

  • Why the capture audio program can't work in the phone?

Our capture audio program witch used MMA can run normally on the WTK simulator, but when we down the program into Motorola V303, it cant work! The document says V303 support JSR-135, why it cant capture audio by use MMA? The program also cant work in Nokia 6600! Please give some suggestions!

    Hiii
In main program you have dclared subscreen area.
now First of all you have to declare a selection screen in your main program
selection-screen begin of screen 1005 as subscreen.
SELECT-OPTIONS s_bukrs1 for  v_bukrs.   "whatever you want in selection screen
    selection-screen end of screen 1005.
IN PBO of your main screen (not in 1005) write
    call subscreen SUB1 including sy-repid '1005'.
where SUB1 is your subscreen area name. And remember don't touch PBO or PAI of your 1005 screen, otherwise it will give you error. Yuo can just put text in layout of 1005 screen. but don't disturb other things.

  • Making tracks a stereo pair

I don't think it's possible, but...is there a way to join audio tracks, making all the clips a stereo pair at once -- rather than one at a time?

Which version of the software are you using? It works for me in 3.5, and as far as I know it's always worked that way. Select the clips in the timeline and press Option-L. That should toggle stereo pair on and off. That's assuming there are two tracks for audio for each clip that can be changed into a stereo pair.

  • Can't capture video using iSight camera in QuickTime 7.4 (92)

OK, I see that there are plenty of "bugs" with Quicktime Version 7.4 (92), but I don't see the problem I am having, posted anywhere. Here goes...
I cannot capture video using my [Firewire] iSight camera on my CoreDuo MacMini. I definitely used to be able to do this. When I go to File>New Movie Recording, I get a back/blank Movie Recording window and that's it. I click on the Red/Record button and nothing happens. The timer doesn't even advance. Just sits there. When I try to stop the recording, I get the following message:
*"Recording failed because no data was received.*
*Make sure that the media input source is turned on and playing."*
I can still capture audio, although had some problems and had to "downgrade" to version 7.3.x and subsequently reinstalled 7.4. Now the audio works but still no video.
    A few things:
    1. YES, the iSight camera works - I can use it in iMovie, iChat, Photobooth, etc. - for both video and audio.
    2. As I mentioned, I tried "downgrading" (using "Pacifist") but still no video.
    3. I re-installed Version 7.4 and the audio problems cleared up, but again, still unable to capture video.
    3. All software updates installed.
    Any ideas???
    Thanks!

    Trash com.apple.LaunchServices.plist
    It's located in your account:
    HD/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.plist
Delete the file, restart (a new .plist will be created) and quicktime hopefully will work again w/o doing an Archive & Install.

  • Problems capturing audio under linux

Hello. I have developed an application that captures audio using the Audio API of JFM. The problem is when I start capturing audio under Linux (all the audio devices are well configurated), the JVM returns the following error:
java.lang.IllegalArgumentException : Illegal request to write non integral numbre of
    frames (13107 bytes)
The piece of code that causes the error is :
    while(!stop) {
    numBytesRead = inputLine.read(data,0, data.length); bufferoutput.write(data,0,
    numBytesRead); }
    where inputLine is a TargetDataLine.
Under Windows this runs OK. Anyone know why not under Linux?
    Thanks

    Hi!
I'm developing a videoconferencing application on Linux and I can't
capture audio; I get messages like these: "couldn't initialize audio device"
or " or "java.io.IOException: Cannot open audio device for input." from JMStudio.
Have you got any idea about the problem ?
    Thankyou.

  • How do I capture audio only, no video?

I'm trying to capture an audio cassette, patched RCA/XLR to a Kona Card, to a G5 tower running FCP6. Since I want to capture audio only, I unchecked the video box in the clip settings tab of the LogCapture window. But when I capture now, I get a message saying "This operation could not be completed as there is no video".
How can I capture audio only? Can't turn off the video in Kona ctrl panel, must be in FCP.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Yes, as I mentioned, I did uncheck that video box, after which I got the message 'operation could not be completed as there is no video' (& capture failed). My capture setting is to Kona, but I've also tried Generic, but no luck.
This then led to my first crash course in SoundtrackPro, which is now recording the audio I needed. But I would love to figure out why FCP is not letting me capture audio w/o video, so any further suggestions are appreciated.

  • AUDIO - CAN'T SEPERATE STEREO PAIR?

I have a stereo track 48/16 and I can't seperate to edit tracks independantly. The STEREO PAIR option, what I usually use, is grey and can't be selected, all edits affect both tracks. The stereo pair shows up under one tab as stated in the manual. Thanks for your help!

You're missing the point. All of this is from within FCP only. The clip in its captured state has paired audio. You can't separate them from within FCP. You can only tell FCP to work with them unlinked. It's called "non-destructive editing" which means the choices you make in FCP do not alter the original media. (Except when you do a Media Manager operation.)
Unlinking the stereo pair is a timeline option only. The viewer shows you original media when you click from the browser. It shows you the timeline state when you load it from the timeline. If you load it into the viewer while it's linked, you will have it linked in the viewer. If you unlink it first, and THEN load it into the viewer, it will be unlinked, and you will get only one audio track loaded.
Maybe it would help if we knew what your end goal is. There's no reason to NEED the unlink feature in the viewer. It works perfectly fine in the timeline. Don't reinvent the wheel. Learn how to use the tools that exist.

  • How to make two mono audio tracks into a stereo pair?

My video clip, brought over into Premiere CS6 from Final Cut Pro 5, has the usual left and right audio tracks, but in Premiere they are not linked into a stereo pair. Thus the volume level has to be adjusted separately in each track.
In Final Cut, I can quickly convert two independent audio tracks into a stero pair by selecting the tracks and then going to the menu Modify > Stereo Pair.  I can't figure out how to do this in Premiere.
When two audio tracks are not linked, the volume level has to be adjusted separately in each track, which wastes time. But after two tracks are linked into a Stereo Pair in Final Cut, adjusting either track adjusts them both, together. That's what I want to do now in Premiere.
So, how do I make two separate audio tracks into a linked Stereo Pair in Premiere?
    Tom

I need to do in my videos that I either can't do in Premiere or that require involved workarounds like this, things that I can do instantly
I used to think like you do. These aren't workarounds, per se. The issue is that Premiere Pro is a different program, so you have to approach some things slightly differently.
Actually, Premiere Pro's audio capability is more like a DAW than Final Cut was, and more powerful too, so if you know that workflow it makes more sense. A lot of FCP people don't have training in programs like ProTools or Audition, so it's more difficult for folks like yourself (and me, too) to catch on. Once you learn it, though, you begin to see its power.
    Tom77 wrote:
things that I can do instantly with the flick of a keyboard command in Final Cut, such as link and unlink audio tracks.
In Premiere Pro CC, you can link and unlink audio and video tracks with a keyboard shortcut for "Linked Selection." You have to create it in your Keyboard Shortcuts dialog box, but it works just like the one in FCP. Make it Shift + L if you like.
    Tom77 wrote:
Not to mention the fact that I can have as many projects open in Final Cut as I want, and copy and paste between them. Each open project becomes a tab on the timeline, and I can jump beween projects by just clicking on their tabs. I was shocked when I tried to open two projects in Premiere to find that it only allows one at a time to be open. That seems really primitive--
Again, you can achieve what you want (copying and using items from other projects), you just have to go about it differently. All you do is navigate to the other project files in the Media Browser and import items that you need in this fashion. So, no, you don't have more than one project open at a time, but you got what you wanted, stuff from another projects in your current project. That works for me, anyway.
Again, Premiere Pro is a different program. You can achieve the same goals, but sometimes have to go about it differently. Some things are faster, some slower. Some are easier to learn, some harder. Hopefully, you see my point.
I need video generators to make arrows, circles, squares, etc. and transitions such as edge wipes and clock wipes to animate them, all to point out and emphasize things that I'm demonstrating and explaining in my videos. Premiere has no such generators, nor are there any third-party plug-ins available to add them, that I've been able to find.
Do you know about the Titler? It has a lot of useful shapes. You can also create shapes in After Effects and Photoshop and import them. The shapes you make in those programs can look a lot better than the stock FCP effects.
There are lots of third party effects, some that have generators. Check out Boris Continuum, FX Factory, CoreMelt, Film Impact, and more.
There are pitifully few transitions in Premiere at all (the Mac version) compared to Final Cut.
I'm really not a transitions person, and I find the FCP transitions looking tired anyway. The only one I really need is a white flash and I can either create it, or use a third party flash effect. If you need cool, modern transitions, check out Film Impact or the other third party plug in foundries I mentioned. There is an Edge Wipe transition, called "Wipe." If you need feathering, check out the Wipe Effect, which you can keyframe to look like a transition.
More and more I would like to be moving completely into Premiere, but I keep running into these inadequacies in the program, these roadblocks, for my purposes at least.
The more you work with it, the less you'll be working with FCP. That's what most people are saying anyway. Sure, there are minor annoyances associated with learning a new app, but you also take the good along with it. I suggest you just dive right in. It may take longer at first, but you can get your speed up in time.
I have no doubt that sometime in the future Premiere will become everything that I want it to be, and at that time I can finally abandon Final Cut for good, as I wish I could do right now.
I also came from FCP, taught FCP for nearly a decade, wrote a book about FCP, help start the first FCPUG, worked at Apple on two versions of FC Studio, so I do know what you are going through. Just keep at it and keep posting here. I'll be glad to help you with any workarounds or confusion related to moving over from FCP.
    Thanks,
    Kevin
