Can't capture ntsc with color

hi
i want to capture ntsc videos. i'm playing back on a panasonic multisystem vhs nv-hs820 going into a acapus advc-110 and then into imovie.
i've tried every imaginable set up in imovie, and everyout different output from the panasonic and switched every switch on the advc but i can't get the movies to import in color.
i have a decent black and white picture but no color.
any ideas on what i could be doing wrong or how to solve the issue?

Your analogue-to-digital converter can't get a grip on the colour signal, which sits on a frequency which it can't decode.
It's the advc device, not iMovie, which is the problem (..although your TV may be able to display the colour info, other devices can't necessarily do so).
If you can't get any kind of upgrade to the device (..probably not available..) then you may have to find another way to do it.
There was a similar question about this a month or two ago, and it was just impossible to get the converter to cope with the colour info.

i have following situation.
i live in germany and would like to capture english language ntsc videos into iMovie HD in order to burn them on a dvd.
i go out of my multi system panasonic video with RCA cables (left, right and video) into an advc110 and then via a firewire cable into my macbook pro.
in iMovie HD i can hear the audio but the video is dull and isn't synced (it like the vertical hold needs to be tuned). further there is nowhere that i can tell iMovie HD to run the session in NTSC. i remember that in the old iMovie you could do that in the preferences.
i have one idea that possibly i need to go out of the video out with a scart cable.
anyone have any ideas?

ok so now i figured it out....kinda
i had to flip a switch on the bottom of the advc....but
now the color *****....maybe this is where the scart ccable comes in...well see
or svhs cable.

Can't capture video with FCP 5.1

Hi All,
Here is the case. I'm trying to capture the video from my newly baught Sony HDR FX7. Here are the specs:
I've connected it thru Firewire 400 on the back of my G5.
G5 660GB HD, 5.5Gb RAM
In Easy set up I've selected HDV-1080i60
When I go to file-log and capture, it connects to camcorder and says VTR OK on the bottom of the screen.
When capturing the video (after I've connected to log and capture I push play on camcorder and then click capture now on FCP) I could see on the capture screen and my video running but here an there a green line would cross the film and then it would slow down for a 10th of a second and line would run accouss the capture window again. The type of lines you'd get in the old movie? .
After I've captured all 5 sigments I had on the tape and when I tried to play (I went to file-import-file, I've selected the captured clip from my internal HD where the FCP put the files). The file opened in browser. And then it open in preview window of FCP. At this point the clip that is 1 minute long would play for 2-4 second and end there. The quality of it was also very, very poor (and I filed it at HD 1080i.
So, the quality was really poor. It was the case with all 5 clips I've captured from FX7. All of them 2-4 sec. long and very poor quality.
Now, if I try to play the clip from camcorder and select "in" and "out" points and then batch capture via the same log and capture window, it would tell me that it's "unable to locate timecode, the timecode appears to be missing from the tape. Please verify that tape is timecoded correctly"
So, I was reading this forum and did this:
Tried to go to user preferences and set "on time code brake" select "make new clip"
Nothing helped.
Also it's worth noting. When I push play on camcorder and click capture now, new window comes up and it says on the bottom of it "searching for meadia..." press esc to stop or something like that. May be it's not finding it?
Also, when I first filmed with this camera, I would stop after every clip, turn off the camera, plug it into tv and preview what I've filmed.
Either way, the few seconds of the clips that I"ve got are very bad quality. When I view the clips on my TV and monitore connected thru 3 colored cables, the video was ok, I'd even say good, just too much noice in it. But quality of capture is horrible.
If anyone is readying this, could you please give me some ideas where to go with this. I don't know what to do from here

Can't capture HDV with Canon Legria hv40

Hi,
I'm having this very irritating problem - when I try to capture HDV(25) footage with Premiere Pro CS6 the program:
recognizes the camera
has control over camera navigation
doesn't show preview in the capture window
says it's capturing, but only captures audio from the camera (in mp3)
I'm using FireWire and all the Premiere/camera settings are set to HDV.
I can't figure out what the problem might be here.

I originally had this problem with a #trial version of CS5.5 and it did exactly what you describe, (incidentally Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 11 @ $75 USD, captures perfectly) ,but, on going to full version and upgrade to CS5.5.2 it has been working perfectly for the last 18 months. (It won't help you but, HDV Canon Capture in Premiere Pro 1.5.1. and that is 5+years old was/is very efficient)
And later as well, just double check New Sequence > Presets > HDV 1080i 25 (50) or other .
Click on Preset Descriptions it will show what it is doing.

#Ps. This occurred in a downloaded trial version (Adobe may not have included the HDV/mpeg-2 codec or it may have been corrupted), but, there is no problem here on 2 x i7 64 bit computers running the program from disc.

Can someone help me with color theme

I have play a bit with my website, which is a clothing store site. I was trying to sell some women's clothing only at beginning. But now I would like to sell men's clothing as well. If you go in have a look, you would know the whole color theme is pink. It was ok for women's clothing, but now I have men's wear. Can someone give me some suggestion on colors? I don't want to change the framework, just change the color.

CP5: Can't capture remotely with a VM

We've had a couple of experiences where we haven't been able to capture remotely if the client is using a Virtual Machine. This is a real problem, since we are often working in an application in pre-release stages, and the client is using a VM to build it.
Has anybody seen any solutions to this?

No, unfortunately, it's not about capturing an application. We always capture the screen area, actually. We can get the screenshots, but not any clickboxes, etc.

Can't capture packets with tcpdump or dumpcap/tshark. Sigsev (Linode)

I'm running arch linux on my linode, everything is up to date in pacman. Whenever I try to run tcpdump or tshark it just gives me "Segmentation Fault". I checked the packages repo site and saw someone having the same issue and the fix was creating the /dev/bus/usb/001/001 which didn't fix the issue for me (still segfaults). When setting up the char device it uses the major version 189 which is usb_device on my linode /proc/devices doesn't show a usb_device anywhere.
So is there something I need to install or something I'm missing? In the past tcpdump has worked with no issues.

You might want to try running it with gdb and do a backtrace after it segfaults to see what's causing that.

Can you change the Graphs Colors in BEx Web Analyzer?

I have few queries I have developed via BEx Query Designer which I am opening from BEx Web Analyzer in portals. Unfortunately the colors in the Graphs are not very pleasant. I was wondering if there is a way we can customize the colors which is given by the standard.
I am aware that we can do this is BEx Report Designer. But I would like to do this is BEx Query Designer.

Hi Shanka,
There is no option as such in BEx Query Designer.
You can manipulate and play with colors only in Report designer or Web Application Designer.
In Bex Query designer, you will find only exceptions which are related to colors but chart colors cannot be manipulated in query designer.
If you are executing the report in workbook, you can change accordingly as it is excel.

According to the local Apple Store here, the Color iPod dock (M9868G/A) will work with the 5G iPod but is a "loose fit" as far as the seating in the well goes.

Capturing NTSC into FCE with a PAL-Camcorder?

Hi. I have mini-dv cassettes with videos in ntsc format.
Is it possible to capture these videos using my PAL mini-dv camcorder via firewire to fce hd3.5?
It sounds weird bec generally you cant use a PAL mini-dv camcorder to play a mini-dv in NTSC format. I went to a video store to ask for an advice and I was told that it didnt matter if I used a PAL mini-dv camcorder to capture an NTSC format via firewire which is digital. All I need is to put the right format setting in the editing software. But I got confused when I got another advice from another video store where I was told that both the camcorder and the edit software should be able to handle the NTSC format. I know fce hd3.5 can handle both NTSC and PAL format in mini-dv.
I hope you can help me solve my problem. Thanks in advance.

As you suggested, I need a video standard converstion system? The video standard will stay as NTSC in the meantime. I only see the use of this standard conversion system when I need to edit both PAL and NTSC videos at thesame time, where I need to convert either one of the video standards into the other one so that as you said fce knows what type of footage it will deal with.
This leads me to think that the only way I can capture my NTSC videos into fce hd3.5 is to use an NTSC camcorder as well. That's exactly my problem bec in Germany they only sell PAL minidv cams unless you want to get Sony HVR-Z1U which is able to handle both NTSC and PAL system. That's expensive for me.

That is not a feature of iPhoto - suggest to Apple - iPhoto Menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback.

Select the text, and open the Appearance palette (Come on guys, text highlight is irrelevant, it happens to objects too says the OP), and see what's listed there. For a simple text object, there should only be a line item "Type", followed by "Characters", and when double-clicked the Characters line item expands to tell you the stroke and fill color. For a basic object, there should be a fill and/or stroke.
What happens sometimes, is that you end up adding extra strokes/fills to objects or text, and the appearance palette is where that will be noted. Especially when you are dealing with groups, and/or picking up a color with the eyedropper, you may inadvertently be adding a fill or stroke on top of something. You can drag those unwanted thingies from the Appearance palette into its own little trash can.
