Can't capture sound

I am trying to capture video off my sony handycam using premiere cs5 and the blackmagic Decklink PCI card. I can capture video, but no sound. I cannot hear the sound through premiere in the capture window. My decklink settings are set for S video and analog XLR audio. I have the audio plugged into the decklink breakout cable using the analog audio in plugs and a 1/4" audio jack adapter to the component audio cable going to the camera. Any ideas?

Not familiar with the setting on the BM card, but the first thing that I would check would be the cables and any connectors. When hooking to your TV's receiver with the same cables, do you get good Audio?

Problem capturing sound with picture on Premiere 6.0

I've been using this system successfully for 10 years and I promise it's the last project with it, I'm going HD with CS4 next month. But...
Using Premiere 6.0. MAC G4 Dual 1000 processors, lots of RAM, 4 hard drives. For some reason when I capture a clip from tape through my Sony DS11 deck, the picture comes in fine, but without sound. I've checked all the audio settings, they're all right. I tried changing all the settings one at a time, it doen't help. I tried using the camera to capture from instead of the deck, no help. I tried a tape shot with a different camera, nope. I tried previous tapes that I was able to capture picture and sound from, now no sound. Oddly, occasionally it will work, maybe one in 20 tries. I'm finishing an important project and only need to lay in the narration, which I record with the camera using a good mike, but of course I can't capture sound. I'm tempted to reload Premiere onto the computer, but I'm afraid it won't hook up with the hundreds of clips already captured. Any suggestions?

FW Capture, whether from your deck, or from your camera, should be just a byte-for-byte data transfer, using the Capture settings that you have chosen. You have confirmed that the settings are 100% correct, and your problem is with both the deck and the camera. That leaves the FW cable, and the connection on your Mac. Now, with either, I would expect that both the video and audio would be messed up, and not just one stream. Still, those would be the next things that I would check.
Since my normal go-to utility, G-SPOT is not ported for the Mac, I'd use MediaInfo, and run one of the Captured files through it, just to see if there is an Audio stream - just on the off-chance that it's a playback issue. Assume that you are doing the Capture to MOV, so playing in QT Player should be a test too.
Other than that, I don't have any ideas to help.

Yes the voice isn't reaching the amp although it is registering on the input bar in the Sound System Prefs, just won't "play through" as it were. I can't see how it could be done I was just hoping someone might see something I am missing.
It seems a shame that you can't do it as iTunes on an old iBook makes a good juke box for DJ'ing and with everything becoming wireless these days it seems sensible that you could cut that one last wire.

So, you want to stream audio to your pals on a chat system. You will need to study the AudioInputStream class and figure out how to send an audio stream across a socket. You'll need to define an equivalent AudioOutputStream, unfortunately there is no such class in the API. Whatever you send should be readable using an AudioInput Stream.
This is an interesting and non trivial project.

Can't capture from my cannon video camera to Final Cut or iMovie.

Hi. I can't capture from my cannon video camera to FInal Cut or iMovie. ANy help would be greatly appreciated. I don't think my iMac is recognizing the camera. I was told I don't need a firewire, that USB would work if I'm just capturing. If I need a firewire what kind (the one I was sold didn't fit). I'm getting an "unable to locate external device message". Not sure of next steps to try. Thanks.

Forget USB for capturing from tape. USB is only for stills from a Tape Based camera.
You require a firewire cable.
The camera connection end will be four pin and the Mac is nine pin to the 800 port.
Ask for a 9 to 4 pin firewire cable. Sounds like you have the wrong one as they can also be 4 to 4 or 4 to 6 pin!!
Also you will need the correct Easy Setup in FCE so FCE talk to the camera, exactly which one depends on what type of footage is being sent to FCE from the camera during capture.

There is no way to go back from an XFA form to an Acroform even with Acrobat Pro, still less with Acrobat. You either need to remake the form, or change your plans to use a third party viewer - Adobe have an excellent range of programs they would like you to use!

I've just finished transferring some vinyl to my eMac. I used the Sound Studio application that came with the eMac to do the transfer, and used ClickRepair to get rid of clicks. I haven't burnt the stuff to CD, but I'd probably use iTunes if I did.
I can't comment on the pre-amp thing: I had my turntable connected to a receiver and cabled from Tape Rec to the eMac input jack.
If you go to Audio Midi Setup in your Utilities folder and set it up as pictured here, you'll be able to monitor the sound through the eMac speakers or the headphones, if you want.

Help ! Screen Capture sound every 30 seconds

Hi all I need help! Last week in the middle of my work day nothing special, the system started playing the camera shutter / screen capture. I started timing between the shutter, every 30 seconds, very annoying - the camera shutter sound - same as the shift-4 screen capture sound and same as the sound that occurs when you press the back button in terminal. I have a 15 inch mac book pro. 2009 model.
I wondered whether someone had installed a hidden shell script or apple script program and is capturing my screen and maybe sending it over the net.
I have checked activity monitor and did not notice any programs running like "screencapture" or anything else like that. I have also turned hidden files visable on, but i can't find any screen capture directory or files: .jpg, .pdf, .png files I should be seeing lots of them for every 30 seconds per capture. Back to terminal here is my dump from ps ax command:

Make sure the sound is coming from your speakers and not from your hard drive, by muting the speakers. If the sound continues, it may be your hard drive's heads parking (which shouldn't happen every 30 seconds either, but that's a very different problem). If it doesn't continue and is therefore exactly what you think it is, I'm as puzzled as you are.

I have also installed little snitch, nothing strange seems to be going out by way of connections. Only dropbox, i have deleted that but the noise still keeps going. I will have to reinstall again....any ideas pls.

How to capture sound into an mp3 file

Hi all,
I have a program to capture sound into a wav file . and it's wrkng.
but in my site i have an mp3 player. can i capture the sound directly to an mp3 file?
I use classes like AudioSystem, TargetDataLine, AudioFormat etc.
For the file format i specify like
AudioFileFormat.Type.WAVE
like this can i do for mp3??
Please help me...

Capture Sound from Soundcard AND Mic

Hi,
My idea is to make an application to record songs on the fly.
That is a user can play a song from my library and with his mic to
sing along with the song. Now i want to capture those two signals
(the sound from the player and the sound from the mic and record it
with FMS to one .flv file.
The way to capture the mic's sound i know, what i don't know
is how to capture the sound produced by the player.
Is there any way to record the souncards output through flash
or do i have to do some sort of stream that specific sound to fms.

On windows, you can use the sound card's mixer to set the
audio source. In the recording view of the mixer, select the
channels you want to record, or choose the "stereo mix".
Unfortunately, this can't be done programatically through
actionscript .
I don't know if it can be done on a Mac, as there isn't a
sound card to speak of.

I am trying to capture what I was playing on my computer using Java code. It's apparently different from capturing sound input through microphones. How can I manage to do this? Actually, while I play a song or something like that on my computer(server), I wanna capture it and send them to other computers(client) in the LAN.

Thanks in advance!Ummmmm, you'd probably need to set your recording device to be "System mixer" and then it would work just like capturing from the microphone.
