Can't change a certain preference

Macbook
I can't uncheck the "log out after 60 minutes of inactivity" in the security preferece pane.
I've tried unlocking it, unchecking the option, locking it back and when I go back in, it's still checked.
I've tried repair disk permissions
I've tried reseting PMU.
Nothing works.
I noticed someone asked this question in 2005 and no one answered the guy.
Please help.

I can't be sure, but what probably happens is that the page doesn't give you a link to a downloadable file, but a button which activates a script. There's nothing you can do about that, because you don't control the script.

It sounds like the downloaded file does not open or execute as it's supposed to (which, for instance, would happen if what you downloaded was a Java application, but you didn't have Java installed).
If you are allowed to, give us the URL and we'll have a look. Also, you should add what version of Mac OS X and of Safari you are using, and you should correct your profile (which says "Mac Pro" -- this forum is for the MacBook Pro, which is a different computer from the Mac Pro).

Can firefox change audio device preference without restarting?

I use my PC as a home theatre as well as for day to day usage, and have multiple audio devices.
For most usage, I route the sound through on-board audio (realtek) but for watching movies, I run it through the ATI HDMI output to the TV.
Currently, in order to watch a movie, I have to shut down Firefox, change windows prefered audio device, then restart Firefox.
Can I change the device preferences somehow within Firefox without restarting it?

Can I change Font List preferences to not start from A...

To explain further, previously in CS6 I could scroll from say "M" down to "R" no problem; whilst also seeing a preview. Now in CC, Say I'm using Meta and want to scroll down to say Rockwell - I have to start again from A (or my most recent fonts first). Its killing my time as I have to type the font name.

Unfortunately the default sort for new albums is By Date Ascending and cannot be changed. I've checked the preference file and there's nothing in there for setting a default sort order.
I tried creating an album with a specific sort order and then duplicating it and the only part of the order that remained was the first criteria, Title. The ascending/decending always reset to ascending.
You might try creating an Automator Workflow to do it.

Can't change home page preference

I have a new Mac with two accounts. On one of the accounts, I can't set a home page other than the default Apple page. I set the desired page in preferences and it works so long as I stay logged in, but when I log out and back in, it has reverted to the factory-set Apple page.
This does NOT happen on the other account - home page behaves fine on that account. I've tried:
- testing different websites as home pages. Someone in another thread said they thought it was something to do with setting Google as your home page (which is what I want) so I tried other sites, but it still happens.
- trashing the safari plist preferences file and resetting all preferences
Any other suggestions?

I TRASHED Adobe Reader... where it belongs. Somehow, and sadly, Apple dropped the GET INFO from under the program name, where it had been before. Command I is now short hand for Command Inspector - i.e. no longer Command Info as was in previous versions of OS X.
So, under Command I, there is no selection to make Preview the Default PDF viewer. How 'bout that? Sad is what I say. I think Apple should be a little weary here, go on Offense, and have an OBVIOUS workout to make Preview, any/all of its programs, the Default program.

Can't change log-in preference

At one point I answered the query, "Do you want to save this log-in ID" with"Never". I want to save it now. Have gone through much in the discussions and went to the Keychain Access area to try and find this site to remove it and reset it. This site is no where to be found in my Keychain Access area. Any ideas about how I can go about fixing this would be greatly appreciated.

I have no idea. One thing to try is create a new admin user account, log into it, and try the site. If you're asked to save the login info, do so, then open up the newly created login.keychain and Safari autofill and cookie list and see if you can determine where the data's stored and under what name. That should give you clues as to where you should be looking in the original account.

Can't Change Units to Inches

I have just reloaded CS5 onto my laptop with Windows 7 and I can't change the unit preference to inches. Every time I try to select it, it immediately reverts back to points. Has anyone else had this issue?

It seems that something is seriously wrong. You may try the following (you may have tried/done some of them already) and see whether it helps:
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer;
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (irreversible);
4) Move the folder with Illy closed (reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options; this is less likely;
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool, and reinstall.

Can I change the default keyboard shortcuts?

I was wondering if it was possible to change some of the default keyboard shortcuts. Some of the actions I use quite frequently have 4-button shortcuts that require a lot more dexterity than I have and I was hoping I can change them to something simple, like 2-keys or 3 at the most. Is this doable?
