Can't change a wallpaper

I can't change a wallpaper on my MacBook. Whatever I do it remains the same. I've already cleaned all the cashe, installed the 10.7.4 Combo Update, tryed onyx osx, but nothing worked for me. What could be the problem and how to resolve it?

That command can't cause a white screen, all it does is restore your desktop's default settings as it was shipped. Thus, some other software is interefering with your system.
1. Are you using any alternative finder program like Path Finder, for example?
2. Does doing a control-click on the desktop bring up a menu?
3. If the answer to 1 is  'No' and 2 is 'Yes', post the list of apps shown here:
 > System Preferences > Users & Groups | Login Items

  • System Preferences Frozen!! Can't Change my Wallpaper!!

Everytime I try to change my wallpaper or my screen saver, I can't click a single thing before the rainbow ball comes up and doesn't let me do anythhing else inside System Preferences. I have to force wuit every time and this only happens when i try to change my wallpaper or screen saver. My iMac runs OS X Version 10.7.4 and is the newest model out there. Apple has not made a newer iMac than the one I have. HELP!

DOwnload and install the OS X Lion client combo. It is safe to do and will hopefully fill in the gaps. If you can I would drag the Sys Prefs app to the Trash so that the install replaces it with a new one.

  • In system preferences I can not change my wallpaper; it just freezes

I need help; today I went to change my wallpaper and the system preferences froze; I did everything from repair disk to safe boot and still it is frozen; have the new Mountain Lion system.  also in my preference folder there is no list for desktop or system preferences; what is going on?

First follow the instructions in this support article:
System Preferences stops responding after viewing Desktop & Screen Saver pane
If there's no change, continue as below.
In the Finder, hold down the option key and select
    Go ▹ Library
from the menu bar. From the Library folder, delete the following item, if it exists:
    Caches/com.apple.systempreferences
and move the following item to the Desktop:
    Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
Launch System Preferences and test. If you still have the issue, put the item on the Desktop back where it came from and post again. Otherwise, delete the item.

  • Can't Change KDM wallpaper/background [Solved'ish]

    Hi, any suggestions welcome.
    I am using KDE4.3
I want to change the blue background with bubbles to just black, I have tried all settings in systemsettings both as root and as user with no change.
As a last resort I have even changed every blue bubble (oxygen air) image in /usr/* that I can find to black, only to find I still have blue bubbles on login/splash.
I have also tried both Ksplash and Kdm generators, but neither changes wallpaper.
    please help me
    Tim

    no change
btw, KDM is set to auto log me in, so i don't even see the login page, just a splash.
    EDIT
Have just tried ksplash-oxyarch from the AUR, works perfectly giving me a black splash background.
It needed kde-meta-kdebase that was not installed before, I have no idear if this was affecting my ability to change the background.
    Anyway...solved'ish

  • I can't change my wallpaper

I have a picture set as my wallpaper on my iPhone but when I try to change it, it says that it is set but when i turn it back on it is still the same picture. I have already tried shutting off the phone and I have restored it a couple times. I don't know what else there is to do. How do I fix this?

You posted the same earlier today, and someone replied to your earlier post with a suggestion, which was trying a Reset.
This is done by pressing and holding the Home button and Sleep/Wake of On/Off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release - ignoring the slide to turn off prompt when doing so.
    Have you tried a Reset?
If not, give it a go.
If no change, when you restoring, did you restore from your iPhone's backup, or as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup?
If there is a data problem on your iPhone, it is likely included with your iPhone's backup. If so, when restoring from your iPhone's backup, you are restoring the problem.
A restore as a new iPhone, or not from your iPhone's backup will lose some data such as your iPhone settings, SMS messages, notes created with the Note application, recent calls, call favorites, Maps bookmarks and youtube bookmarks to name a few, along with photos captured by your iPhone. Before trying this, be sure to import any photos that were captured by your iPhone to your computer.

  • Can't change Wallpaper OS X 10.10 (Yosemite)

I have had this problem for a long time even before Yosemite. Basically I can't change my wallpaper. I have Googled somethings and people say to delete the com.apple.desktop.plist file but the problem is I don't have that file! Please help.

    Hi ..
    Might be corrupted Finder preferences.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.finder.plist file to the Trash.
Restart your Mac then open System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver > Desktop
To test click the arrow on the left next to Apple to reveal:  Desktop Pictures then select an image on the right.

  • I can't change my iPad Mini home screen wallpaper at all, not even a default. I can't change my lock screen either. Help! I'd rather not waste my time bothering with computer programs so please give me a SIMPLE solution if you can.

How do I change my seemingly unfixable iPad Mini Home Screen and Lock Screen wallpapers?

I tried that and that is what initially started this. I wanted a new wallpaper for my home screen and it didn't work so I reset it. The wallpaper is now zoomed in, I can't zoom it back out, and I can't change it to the new one I want. Plus, recently I had reset it and it stayed at the Appe logo and didn't move and I got scared that I'd never be able to use it again, I tried random things and it turned on again. I think I was just lucky so I don't want it to happen again. And yes I did look up how to fix it but it was really complicated so I just did what I mentioned.

After OS X 10.8.5, i cannot change my wallpaper background, it always jams and become irresponsive, can anybody help me out?

I solved the problem, turns out my previous MLion or Lion OS was having bugs and corrupted. So when i update and install a new OS on top of previous corrupted one, it will be still corrupted. So i backup all my files and formatted my Mac using (Option key during startup) then reinstall MLion and everything works perfectly fine. I had a 8GB pendrive with Mac OS X Install file in it. The file was around 4++GB. So after formatting, i rebooted with (Hold option key duuring restart) then log in to my pendrive, and installation of fresh new copy of the OS started automaticaly, Now everything works perfectly fine.

How do I change the wallpaper and make windows transparent ( ~ 20% ) ?
Have been Googl'ing for a while now but still have no clue on how to achieve it

What terminal do you use? urxvt can set transparency in the Xdefaults file.

Or, if you don't like fiddling with Xdefaults file, you can simply make urxvt transparent by executing it like "urxvt -tr -sh 20", where the number represents the transparency level. However, this is only pseudo transparency, but I like it better than resource-consuming compositing.
Will give it a try. I'm not against .Xdefaults - just haven't used it that much and know only the basics ( color schemes )

  • IPad Air: Photo can't upload onto wallpaper

I haven't been able to change my wallpaper photo because I can't seem to be able to minimize the photo so it'll fit entirely. I tried using a resizing photo app but it just makes the photo really blurry and yet I still can't minimize the photo. I also tried going into my photo stream and having it set to wallpaper that way and still can't do it. Can someone please let me know if there is a setting somewhere that I need to change? This new ios7 is driving me insane haha please help. Thanks!!

You're repairing the permissions on the disk not iPhoto. There seems to be a problem between iPhoto and the other apps and this is what we're trying to fix, not the app itself.
Launch Disk Utility, located at /Applications/Utilities/.
    Select the ‘First Aid’ tab.
In the left-hand pane, select a volume you wish to run Repair Permissions on. In your case this will be Macintosh HD.
Click the ‘Repair Disk Permissions’ button.

Resize or crop the photo to 960 pixels by 640 pixels, then email it to yourself.  Open the email on your phone, tap the attached photo and choose Save to save it to your camera roll.  You can then select the photo from your camera roll to use as your wallpaper (by going to Settings>Wallpapers & Brightness and tapping the wallpaper shown, if using iOS 7).  The wallpaper on the left in settings is your lock screen background, the image on the right is your home screen wallpaper.
