Can't change BIOS version in MSI GS70

Hello Folks! I'm completely new in the Forum. This will be my very first post so apologies for any mistakes I can make
Two weeks ago I bought a MSI GS70 2OD-052XPL  (1TB 7200 hdd version) laptop. Before I've become a happy owner of my MSI I did some additional purchase (2x mSata 120Gb). I was planning to set my mSata ssd as  SuperRAID array and make a clean Windows 8 installation. However It turned out that to do so I have to have the UEFI RAID0 SKU BIOS version (I have nonRAID version) on board. I downloaded proper BIOS version and I've tried to change my BIOS to the right one (w8_E1771IMS.70E). No success so far . I contacted my polish MSI techsupport and they said the there should be no problem with the installation. I tried different methods of BIOS flashing but there i ROMID error at the end. I'll be more than happy to have your support guys.
Thanks,
Tomasz

'SuperRaid' is sort of a marketing name that MSI uses for being able to put multiple mSATA SSD's into a notebook. ALL notebooks use the Intel RAID ROM/controller built into the NB in order to make the actual Raid array.
As Svet explained, every GS70 does come with 'SuperRaid' support. The GT70 (like I have), it was an option to get a SuperRaid.
The speed of the raid is dependent on the controller on the SSD and the how the SSD is configured (by the manufacturer.....how the FLASH is arranged, etc...).
On top of that, in Raid 0, you should see performance that is roughly 2x that of a single drive.
http://www.legitreviews.com/kingston-ms200-120gb-msata-ssd-review_125006/3
Looking at that review, you can see that their single drive is similar to the performance of a single drive that you have (should be, it's the same model....). And your Raid 0 performance is very close to being 2x that of a single drive.
Overall, everything looks to be in working order.
Thank you guys for the complex explanation. Now I know a lot more about drives and how it works!
Special thanks for Svet!

No, 10.5.x is a PPC OS, 10.7.x is for intels only. In  addition, you can't install an OS that is earlier than the one your machine came with.

I downloaded the rar that you attached , did what you told me to do ...i run GPU-Z and it shows that the BIOS version is the number 70.10.17.00.01 ,Is this the latest bios or is it the old one.????
This number will remain the same.
If you want to check current VBIOS version installed:

extract it somewhere, then run info1 , and look for the last line and tell what it is

  • Can I change PC version of Photoshop to MAC version?

I own a copy of Photoshop CS5 which I purchased when I owned a Windows PC, but due to the limited processing power and favourable reviews, I have recently changed to a MAC. Lightroom is multi-format so that was easy enough to change over, but Photoshop is Windows only. Is it possible to get a change of format from windows to MAC for Photoshop? I am not keen on running a dual operating system on the MAC, so a licence change is what I am hoping for.

Would it be possible to upgrade my CS5 version to CS6, then perform a cross-platform exchange?
Yes, you just purchase the CS6 upgrade version for Mac, enter your Mac CS6 Upgrade serial number then enter your Windows CS5 serial number.
How to Move Adobe CC or CS6 Between Computers, or PC to Mac | ProDesignTools
"Good news! It’s simpler now with CS6, you can easily change platforms when upgrading as normal – just select the correct operating system when purchasing the upgrade. Then when you install that upgrade software on your new platform, it will ask for the serial number of your previous version from the other platform.  For example, if you currently own Photoshop CS5 on Windows and want to get Photoshop CS6 on Mac, then just buy the CS6 upgrade for Mac OS, and manually enter the serial number for your older Windows version when installing it."

  • T42 Can't change BIOS settings

I can get into the BIOS fine, I just can't change any of the settings in the BIOS settings screens because it says I need to be in 'admin' mode. I've entered the BIOS by hitting the blue 'Access IBM' button, F1, or F12 and I run into the same problem regardless. This was previously my brother's laptop and he set a BIOS password which I know and he was telling me one of the F-keys will get you into admin mode but he forgets which one.
    Thanks for any help.

excellent decision. Bios passwords should only be used in rare cases. For years used corporate thinkpads were dumped on the market with passwords, which only served to tarnish thinkpads reputation when buyers get stuck with them. Luckily the brokers have learned not to accept them unless the corp remove the passwords first.

  • How can I tell BIOS Version "offline"?

    Hi there,
I just got my K8N Neo2 Platinum and a 3200+ Winchester CPU. I heard that you need at least BIOS Version 1.2 for the winchester to run. I just wanted to check with you if there is any chance for determining my BIOS version without installing the board (maybe by serial number / revision number?). Of course I could install the board, but since my whole PC is watercooled, it would be very annoying to set up the whole PC just to realize that my BIOS does not support my CPU...

"version without installing the board (maybe by serial number / revision number?)"
you can't!  serial number / revision number is on the CHIP. there is nothink with information in the chip. its flashable. you dont know what version is on it.
etc you may see some hard disk SATA Seagate baracuda 80GB 8MB cache. so could you tell me what version on windows is installed on it without turning HDD on?!
you can guess for BIOS ver on chip depending on baying date on the board. or on mobo revision.
why you need this?! just put your CPU and power on. if mobo dont recognise it correctly will be desplayed "Unknown CPU type" but who care?! boot directly from floppy and update with latest BIOS. then will support your new cpu. other way to put other proccesor if mobo dont wont to boot with unrecognized CPU. and proceed with update with latest BIOS. after complete put your new cpu back.
other way is to take your BIOS chip and to flash to other the same model mobo.(but this is not reccomended)

  • BIOS Versions for MSI 7125

I have found that my MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum (7125) BIOS seem to be missing some features like DMA settings, whether to cache the BIOS or not, etc.  I found some new beta BIOS at "http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/other/111", but I would like to know what they do before I flash them.
There are two versions, the Beta 1.21 released on the 18th of January and the more recent 1.24 released on the 18th of February.  Does anyone know what these BIOS do?

I am guessing, that you meant I should put this in the BIOS forum?  Or if you had anything else in mind...Please say so!
BTW, mods please move this to the BIOS thread, if that would be more appropriate.

  • P55A-G55 OC can't change BIOS settings

About this, I've also got a P55A-G55, and overclocking in BIOS seems impossible, all hertz related options are inactive and I can't choose them in BIOS, let alone change the values. Anyone have any ideas? Some option or something that needs to be enabled? Help would be very much appreciated

Oh, really? I just thought I wouldn't waste space with my very similar problem, but alright, will do.
Anyway, I should clarify/alter my problem description. My problem is this: I have set some values in BIOS, and my first question is why does the OS max out the multiplier eventhough I have manually set a lower value? That is to say, I have set it at 20, yet in the OS it is at 22. Anyone know why?
Second question, I have also set pretty low voltages, but the physical values are much higher than what I have manually set. That is to say, the values set in BIOS do not apply. Is that to do with the board?

    Hello
Probably is known to you that companies as Toshiba do from time to time planned maintenance with servers and all saved data. I am pretty sure it will work again very soon.
As alternative you can visit follow page http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/?page=bios

  • Are there any MSI K9A2 Platinum Bios version with better V-core adjust?

    Hi everyone
I wonder if anyone knows if there are some bios version to MSI K9A2 Platinum there they have change the V-core settings. I think it´s very big step between the different V-core setting.
    In my bios (v.1.3) i have this settings at V-core. Auto=1.32v (AMD 5000+ BE) then 1.36, 1.39, 1.44, 1.49, 1.51. etc.
So, if anyone knows if there are som bios version that have better options to the V-core settings i would be grateful

  • Z87 MPower max ac Bios version

So I bought a Z87 Mpower max ac back around christmas time, I've been slowly buying parts for it, now with just the cpu to get, so I can't boot it up to check the bios version. I was wondering whether it's possible that my board has the 1.7 update to support haswell refresh (I plan on getting the 4790k) considering the manufacture date for the board was march 2014 and the bios update to support H-R came out late february 2014. I know it's unlikely, but it would make life a lot easier not having to buy a cheap celeron just to update the bios.

Quote from: Nichrome on 07-June-15, 18:34:56
S/N can roughly tell BIOS version your board would have. But still you will need older Haswell chip to flash to latest BIOS. You could ask IT services in your area to flash it for you or send it to MSI for flashing. Lastly, you can borrow a CPU from friend.
    >>How to contact MSI.<< if required
Okay, so I'll still likely need a cheap celeron to flash a new bios. Besides the month and year, I assume the S/N can't help much more with what version it has?

As soon as I update with version 1.2, it is not possible anymore to overclock with EXACTLY keeping the same parameters (see my previous subjects).
Did you clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from PSU after flashing the BIOS?  If not, please do that and test again.  OC settings can vary between BIOS Versions, that is not that unusual.
