Can't change channels on Airport Admin Utility

When I go into the Airport Admin Utility and go to configure my Airport Express Base Station which I play my iTunes through my home stereo, it initially will show the channel setting for about a half a second and then it shifts to a different screen that shows:
Base Station
Name:
Contact:
Location:
(Change password...) (Base Station Options...)
AirPort Network
Wireless Mode:
Wireless Network:
Wireless Security: 128 bit WIP
(Security Options...)
(Wireless Options...)
I can't figure out how to get back to that screen that initially flashed up to change the channel settings.
I'm having dropping issues playing music through my home stereo and a number of posts recommend changing the channel or the multicast rate and I can't get back to this screen!
Can someone help me figure out how to get back to this setting screen?

Change the value in the "Wireless Mode" window to "Create a Wireless Network (Home Router)" to get the channel option back. If this doesn't work, you may need to do a "factory default" reset to get it back to it's "out-of-the-box" condition where this would be the default mode.

  • Airport Admin Utility can no longer access Airport Extreme, what now?

I have an Airport Extreme that worked fine for a long time with a specific IP. They sold out and the new company came in and installed new equipment. The settings had to change on the Airport. After that, I lost my ability to print through the Airport USB port.
I tried to resolve the problem the other day. My Airport Admin Utility saw the Airport, but I couldn't access it. When I clicked configure, a window came up saying "Reading configuration from base station", then a Password login window came up. I enter my password, it says "Reading configuration from base station", then it says "An error occurred while trying to access the base station. Make sure your network connection is valid and try again.". It does the same thing whether I enter the right or wrong password.
It started working unexpectedly for a little while. I experimented with some settings. Now I can't access it again. The Airport Admin Utility sees the Airport as 10.0.0.0, my laptop's IP says 169.xx.whatever. I thought the Airport was supposed to distribute IP addressed. It did for awhile after I set it that way, but then it went back to 169.xx.whatever.
I'm lost. I don't know how I will ever access the Airport again. Or get my printing capability back.
    Help!!!

Ok. I'm going to try a reset on a day where I have some time to mess with it. There are some things I need clarified for me about settings. Please correct me as needed.
    In the internet tab:
    -Connect using Ethernet is selected.
-Configure Manually was selected before as it is now.
-IP address: do I use their IP or 10.0.0.0 or 10.0.1.1 or what?
-Subnet mask: It used to be 255.255.255.0 now it's 255.255.0.0.
-Router address: What do I put here, use their IP or 10.0.0.0 or 10.0.1.1 or what?
-DNS servers: I will enter their DNS servers.
    -Domain name: blank
-WAN Ethernet Port is selected Automatic.
    Under Network Tab:
    -Distribute IP adresses is checked.
-Share a single IP address (using DHCP & NAT)used to be checked, now Share a rnage of IP addresses (using only DHCP) is checked.
-DHCP Lease: 4 hours. What is best here?
Do I really need to worry about anything else? If the password is reset how to I access from default settings?
Thanks, after this I should have a better understanding of network settings and the AEBS.

  • Can't open AirPort Admin Utility configuration file

I'm using an AirPort Extreme Base Station connected to a cable modem through the WAN port and to my G4 Cube running OSX 10.2.8 through the LAN port. I also use an iBook and eMac with AirPort cards to wirelessly access my network. My problem is that I can not open the configuration file so that I can change my settings. I get an error message that AirPort Admin Utility can't read the configuration file of the base station. I tried resetting the base station to the factory settings, to no avail. So now I also can't set a password and encryption. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

To clarify--I previously had a password protected network set up and working. I wanted to change the settings and couldn't open the config file. I reset to factory settings successfully, but still can't open the config file, which I need to do in order to encrypt and set a new password. Thanks!

  • Airport Admin Utility can't read config

I replaced my broken Express with a new one. It came with newer Admin Utility software that requires 10.3.3 or higher (even though the box says 10.2.7 is required). The new software won't install on my iBook, which runs 10.2.9. So, I installed the Express with my existing software- 3.1.1. It installed fine and it works but I can't access it with my Admin Utility to change the config or view the key. I can see the device in the Utility window, but it can't read the configuration. The old Express was v5.4 and this one is v5.6.

You don't have an Express - you must have an Extreme Base Station if it is running firmware version 5.6.
You could revert the firmware on your Base Station back to version 5.4 using:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/airportextremefwupdate.html
If you cannot get this to work from your own Mac, you will need to bring the Base Station in to someone with a Mac running at least MacOS 10.3 to do the firmware downgrade process for you.
You should then be able to use the old Airport configuration software version 3.1.1 on your Mac.

  • Computer can not read airport admin utility.

I am on the web, but I need to change my password so my PC can also connect via the airport. Although, when I try to change the settings of the airport I am either told the airport is not connected, or it will tell me that there was an error in communicating with the airport. What gives?

I did read your posts - but I'm not certain you followed the instructions (from the beginning) provided in link to the article "Starting from scratch". The advice provided in the link "Starting from scratch" begins by having you do a hard reset of the Airport Base Station before trying to run the Airport Admin Utility again. Sometimes doing this will finally allow the Airport Admin Utility to see and access the configuration of a Base Station when all other attempts to get the Airport Admin Utility to access the Base Station have failed. Any yes - I have indeed seen your problem posted many times over the past few years within the thousands of postings I have read in the Airport discussion forums on this web site.
If you did follow the instructions to hard reset the Base Station, and the Airport Admin Utility still fails to be able to access the Base Station then my apologies, and I'll have to admit I won't be of any help.

  • How can I get AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow 4.2.5 to work with OS10.6?

I've upgraded to the latest version of Mac OS and now AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow 4.2.5 won't run. Any suggestions on how to either run this utility or otherwise get access to my old Snow Dual Airport via another method? Airport Utility doesn't see the device, despite repeated scans. My computer and iPad connect no problem to the device, but both iPod and iPhone won't take and hold an IP address. (If any one can help me solve this issue, I can live without access the Airport.)
    Thanks,

I've upgraded to the latest version of Mac OS and now AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow 4.2.5 won't run. Any suggestions on how to either run this utility or otherwise get access to my old Snow Dual Airport via another method?
Unfortunately, you will need another Mac running a much earlier version of OS X to be able to install AirPort Admin Utility and make any settings chances to the router.
Since the normal life of a wireless router is around 5-6 years of use, now might be the time to consider a new router that will provide far better performance than the older Graphite/Snow AirPort.

  • Airport Admin Utility, iTunes, Airfoil can't see AE base station

I know this is not a new topic, but I can't find an answer in any of the other threads. With other users the problem seemed to "magically" go away. I have not been so lucky yet.
Airport Admin Utility can't see my AE base station but I can find it using "other" and typing in the IP address. I was able to update the firmware to 6.3 (again using "other" and typing in the IP address since the fw updater couldn't see it either). I can see it (with it's name displayed) with my router software. However, it does not show up in iTunes or Airfoil either.
The base station is connected via ethernet to my home network. I tried rebooting the computer, restarting the base station, I also tried a hard reset on the base. I do not have "distribute ip address" checked. I do have "enable Airtunes" checked. The firmware on my Linksys router is up-to-date and not a hack. I'm running OS X v10.4.5 on a Dual 1.42 GHz PowerMac G4.
    Thanks in advance.
    Dual 1.42 GHz PPC G4, 1.42GHz Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

okay, I connected the AE base directly to the PowerMac with the ethernet cable and it showed up in everything (Airport Admin Utility and iTunes). So I guess my problem is with the router. What do I do now? This router is only a couple of months old.
When you suggested I disable DHCP, did you mean in the AE settings or on my router? As I mentioned initially, I do not have "distribute ip addresses" set up on the AE base. After reconnecting the AE base to the router, I tried disabling DHCP on the router and that didn't fix the problem.

  • How can I reinstall airport setup assistant & airport admin utility

It's a long story but I accidentally deleted my support software for my Airport Express (the airport setup assistant and airport admin utility).
I tried downloading the AirPort 4.1 update, but I can't install it because I am told there is a newer version already installed on my computer.
I have no idea how to get the airport express software back, aside from re-installing my OS, which I would rather not do.
    G4 12"   Mac OS X (10.4)

"There must be something somehwhere on the system that makes the computer think that the original software is still there."
    Hi ChezFerranti!
Yes, an installation receipt. Deleting receipts is not recommended.
It's probably best to download and install the 10.4.9 Combo Update, and that should re-insert the two missing utilities into your OS, since it wouldn't depend on seeing a receipt.
The pertinent receipt is "AirPortConfigApps.pkg" in HDD>Library>Receipts. That was the installation of the AirPort 4.2 software Update in July of 2005. It is no longer a separate item at Downloads, except for someone with a Panther OS (10.3). This means that it was folded into a later OS X Tiger Software Update, which is why the 10.4.9 Combo Update should be able to replace those utilities for you. The problem with simply deleting the receipt is that when you install a new version, then you'd get duplicate files of everything else that was part of that July 2005 AirPort 4.2 Update.
"aside from re-installing my OS, which I would rather not do"
There should be no need to do that. The 10.4.9 Combo Update should do essentially the same thing for you, W/O duplicating anything! Best of luck:)

  • Airport Admin Utility can't find Airport Extreme

I have an older Airport Extreme, about 4 years old. It's been giving me trouble lately, where basically I check my computer and it's not online. I have to click the tiny reset button on the back of the airport and that usually works fine (although annoying).
Today the problem seems a bit worse. I tried the reset thing, but that didn't work. So I tried to do a reset through the airport admin utility. Unfortunately the utility can't seem to detect the airport, although it does detect the airport express we have downstairs (which is essentially used to extend our network a little further).
Currently, of the three tiny lights at the front of the airport, only the middle one is lit, and it is not flashing. Earlier, just after doing a restart, the middle light was blinking slowly and the third light (the one on the far right) was blinking more rapidly. I have not seen the first light lit up today.
If anyone has a suggestion on how I might get this working I would very much appreciate it. Thanks.

Are you getting internet access through the airport? I have the same problem - airport admin utility can't see the airport, but the airport extreme has created a generic network that i can't manipulate without airport admin utility. I have internet...

  • How can I get Airport Admin Utility to Locate My Extreme Base Station?

In an effort to repair some network connection problems I was having with my ISP (or so I thought), I reset my Airport Extreme Base station today. I have been unable to get it back to normal since. I'm currently connected to my ISP through an Ethernet connection directly from my modum to my iBookG4. Now, when I try to re-established the old network connections with my Airport Extreme, I cannt get the system to recognize a base station. When I use the Airport Admin Utility, the window pops up and *** me to select a base station, but there are none in the window. When I rescan, nothing comes up. The airport setuup utility has been no help either. Any ideas how to get my base station back? Thanks!

    Hi, Tesserax:
Thanks so much for your reply. I tried the direct connection, as suggested in a previous message I saw on this board. Didn't work for some reason. Lucky for me, one of my neighbors works in the tech department of a nearby Apple Store. Last night he was able to get the base station working again. I wish I could share how he did it on this message board, but it was beyond my modest understanding. Again, thanks for taking the time to reply!
    Best, Kevin

  • Airport Express not Appearing in iTunes/Airport Admin Utility

After upgrading to iTunes 7, Airtunes did not work, so I followed the tips on the forum discussions, on MacOSXHints.com (resetting the IPv6 preference) and so on.
However, now iTunes will not recognise the base station at all. I think this is connected to the fact that the base station will also not appear on the Airport Admin Utility list. BUT... I am able to access the Airport Express by entering its IP address and password via the "Other" button. This has allowed me to check the AEx configuration settings, reset the hardware, re-upload the firmware, and even re-configure the AEx from scratch.
I am able to use the Internet through the AEx, and the network appears in my airport menu bar list, so I can select it and other wireless networks in range... It seems that iTunes and Airport Admin Utility just cannot see it. I have tried every combination of 'soft reset', 'hard reset' of the Aex, trashing of various airport admin utility and itunes preferences, and restarting software and the whole computer but this problem still persists.
Any ideas?? iTunes 7 is great, but I want my Airtunes back!!
    Thanks in advance - Danny

you may be suffering from wireless interference.
download iStumbler and note the channels other networks in the vicinity are broadcasting on, then change the channel your network is using as far away as possible from those.

  • HELP: Airport Admin Utility no longer see's my Base Station

Recently someone tried to unsuccessfully connect to my network while I was away.
When I came home I could still connect to the internet but my network name was no longer visible and had been changed. I could still connect to the internet via Airport but my Airport Admin Utility would scan and not find my Base Station !
I have found that in my keychain "Airport Network Password" "System" I cannot get my password !!!!!
I have tried soft and hard reset of my base station to no avail.
Seems I have to reset my password but cannot !
I am at my wits end, can anyone help

Have you tried to change the channel no.?

  • Reissue:  Connection Timed Out and Airport Admin Utility Issues

I put this post last November, but no one seemed to have a solution to it, so I thought I would try again...
Our lab has and Airport Extreme (802.11g). Intermittently (once a week to a couple of times a day) our airport extreme will stop allowing new connections. Here's what appears to happen. The airport still appears in the the list of networks in the airport icon in the menu bar (ie it still broadcasts SSID), but when I try to connect it whirls for a while and then says connection timed out. If I go to the Airport Admin Utility the base station doesn't appear there even though all of the rest of the ones on our network do (I should at this point, mention that we have both ethernet and WiFi layers on our network--the base station operates as an access point in bridge mode). The only solution is to power cycle the base station. A couple of extra tidbits.
    * Base station firmware is current at version 5.7.
    * We never have more than about 8 users connected to the base station.
    * This inability to connect is independent of what computer is trying to connect and even occurs with iPod touches.
    * This problem has occurred for a couple of years (multiple firmware versions).
    * I also have similar problems on a network at home that has the new Airport express/extreme N arrangement on a cable internet connection.
    * Sometimes this seems to fix itself after 30 minutes or so of just ignoring it. Other times it does not.
    * The restoration of the ability of the airport to accept connections after the power cycle is always immediate.
    * We only have 6-10 connections, less than the max supported.
    * The Airport usually continues to work for those computers that are connected to it before it stops allowing connections.
    So couple of questions:
    1) Do other people see this problem?
    2) Is this some problem with the WAN network connection impairing the ability of the base station to establish WiFi connection that eventually resets itself after something times our or resets?
    3) Any suggestions as to what to do about it?

Two reasons I don't think that this is likely the issue. Both are based on my assumptions about how noise would affect the working of a WAP. If these assumptions are erroneous, please let me know.
The first is that I have tried both automatic channel selection and manual channel assignment based on an unused channel that was several channels away from other WAPs. Kind of circumstantial since other devices can emit noise in the same region of the spectrum (our phones are 5.8GHz and the microwave is no where near the base station.
The second though, is that I can stand literally a foot away from the base station with my notebook or iPod touch and still have the same problem. It would seem the the noise would have to be enormous to interfere with a device that close the the base station. Also, why would the other connected devices continue to work?
In the interest of providing a complete picture, I would say I have thought quite a lot about whether noise is a problem. This base station is installed in a lab, with lots of electrical equipment whirring away and to make matters worse, the base station itself needed to be installed right next to (Within inches) a circuit breaker box. I winced when I did this.
Interestingly, the thing normally does work and the signal strength & signal to noise (reported by airport utility) and transfer rates are quite good when you can connect.
    Thanks,
    Michael

  • My Airport Base Station does not appear in the Airport Admin Utility

I cannot see my airport extreme base station in the Airport Admin Utility nor in Airport Setup Assistant via Airport. It worked yesterday but when I was trying to set up a network something must have changed but I don't know what it is. (The setup didn't work so I am only using one base station right now.) The only way I can configure/reconfigure the base station is by physically connecting via an ethernet cable. Then no problem. I have two computers and neither can access the base station with Airport Admin Utility via Airport. I have installed the latest Airport Update but nothing has changed. What happened?

You should be able to use the second Airport Extreme
Base Station as a wireless print server. What I
    suggest you do is:
    1. run the Airport Admin Utility and clean up
settings on your existing Base Station:
    - under the Airport tab, make sure you have not
selected to "create a closed network"
    - under the Access Control tab, clear out all
    settings
    - under the WDS tab, clear out all settings
    - under the Network tab, make sure the box is checked
to "Distribute IP addresses" and "Share a single IP
    address using DHCP and NAT".
    - update settings to the Base Station if you changed
    anything.
    2. do a hard reset of your second base station per:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107451
    3. for now, put both base stations and the Mac in the
same room. Run the Airport Setup Assistant, and use
its guidance to configure the second base station as
a new base station that "extends" the wireless
network of your main base station.
    That should do it.
Thanks very much. The printer works great from both computers via my second airport base station. And I can see both my base stations in the Airport Admin Utility.
