Can't change filetype association back to CS5

[FYI - similar post in the Acrobat and InDesign forums.]
We  installed the CS5.5 upgrade  today, and for the time being I would  prefer to open my existing Illustrator docs with CS5.0, using 5.1 only when  we receive v5.1 files.
I  highlight an AI file, Get  Info, change Open With to Illustrator CS5 and click  Change All. As soon as  I'm done the dropdown switches back to Illustrator CS5.1 (!!!), and  nothing is actually changed in terms of what app OS X is using to open Illustrator files.
Am I missing something? Is  CS5.1  overriding the system perhaps? (An older version of Freehand used to do  this, which was super-annoying until they came out with a  patch to fix  that and about seven hundred other things.) I'm really not sure if this  is  an Adobe issue or an OS X issue, but I've never had trouble  changing  filetype associations in the past.
TIA for any tips!
OS X 10.6
Macbook Pro
PS. It's annoying enough that CS5.1 *still* can't find Pantone 485 in the Swatch Book pallete (it finds 1485 instead)... this bug has only been around for five or six versions now, I guess maybe 20 or years down the line they'll finally get around to fixing it???

Actually, I think this is a generic Mac OS X bug...I've seen it with other applications sometimes, never took the time to really track it down. You can probably open the CS5 package bundle and edit Content/Info.plist in the Property List Editor and remove its association with IDd7 files. I suppose you might have to run some horrible lsregister invokation after that to make it "take" but I think it should pretty much work.

  • Can't change filetype association back to Acrobat 9

We installed the CS5.5 upgrade today, and right off the bat I don't really care for Acrobat X. This is not the time or place to go into it all, so please don't respond only to ask me why I feel this way... for the time being I'd like to set my PDFs to default to Acrobat 9, only using 10 when I have to.
I highlight a PDF, Get Info, change Open With to Acrobat 9.4.4 and click Change All. However, that doesn't actually change anything, all my PDFs continue to open in Acrobat X.
Am I missing something? Is Acrobat X overriding the system perhaps? (An older version of Freehand used to do this, which was super-annoying until they came out with a patch to fix that and about seven hundred other things.) I see that InDesign CS5.5 is doing the same thing, I'm really not sure if this is an Adobe issue or an OS X issue, but I've never had trouble changing filetype associations in the past.
    TIA for any tips!

Not neccesarily true. It WILL however only set the association for that particular type of PDF (say one's that were created by a certain application).

And if they were all created by the same application (say Apple Quartz for instance) you're back in the same boat.
The trick is to select a few PDF's (Absolutely no reason that it has to be 5, that's Phillips thing) created by different applications or at least be sure it's one from the application you use.
I've found less than five don't give an accurate sampling. That's the reason for 5 or more created by different  Applications.

So how can I go in and change the setting, It stays ofcourse at the apple screen with wheel. All info is there and the computer works fine, just cannot use it or have been able to log in.

wjosten is spot on.  If you really want iCloud, then you will need to acquire a new or second hand MBP that can run Lion.

  • Can't change file association (Powerpoint 2011 to Powerpoint 2008)

    Hello
On my iMac I've recently installed MS Office 2011. The old version of Office 2008 is still installed as well. I've got some problems with the new version of Powerpoint (2011). Therefore I'd like to use the old version of Powerpoint (2008) for all my Powerpoint files.
Unfortunately it is not possible to just uninstall Powerpoint 2011 without uninstalling the whole Office suite. So my idea was: changing the file association and let opening all Powerpoint files with the older version.
The problem is: I can change the association of a single file. But if I try to apply the changes to all files of this type, it does not work. This behaviour only exists for Office files.
Does anybody know, why this happens?
Any help is appreciated. Thank you,
    Marco

Launch Services has always been a bit..."strange"
Why not compress the MS 2011 PP (right click it to bring up finder's contextual menu and select compress) into a zip file.  Trash the uncompressed file (see below).  And then launch services hopefully won't have any choice but to select and use MS 2008 PP.
Before you delete the original in the trash.  Double click the zip file to expand it back to another copy of 2011 PP.  Make sure that launches properly.  This is just an extra safety (paranoid) check to make sure the original zipped correctly.  Then you can also trash this second copy as well.

  • Where does the "Submit Form" button get created and how can I change the associated email address?

I've created a pdf form using Adobe Live Cycle ES 8.2 and it has been working fine.  Now I need to change the email address it gets sent to when the user clicks on the "Submit Form" button.
How can I change this email address?
    Thank you in advance

    Yes, that is correct.
I did not manually add this button, so I am assuming it was somehow automatically created.
It worked great up until now that I need to change the "To:" email address.
I've look through the XML code associated this this email address and changed it every where I could find it, but it still hasn't changed my results.  So, I have no idea how to change this and as stated above, if I create a new form it automatically sets it up to be sent to the wrong email address.  Not sure why or how to change it?
Let me know if you need further info to help me out.
    Thanks again

  • Can you change RAW to DGN in cs5?

Can you change RAW photos to DGN with CS5?
    Is there a download?

You can download it here: http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/extend.displayTab2.html#downloads
As an alternative, you can save the raw file as a DNG in Camera Raw, if your camera is supported.

  • Can't change file associations

I can't seem to change the file associations for quicktime. The checkboxes are greyed out so I can't deselect them.
I have tried un-installing and re-installing both quicktime itself and itunes but am not asked which files to associate during installation of either. I have also tried un-installing and running the windows cleanup utility but it doesn't show any quicktime entry and when I re-install the file types are still greyed out.
    Anyone got any ideas.

This could be caused by damaged QuickTime preference files (or possibly a permissions problem on the preferences files).
We can try rebuilding one set of your preference files to see if that helps with the greyed-out stuff.
First, quit QuickTime if you have it open.
Next, you'll need to make sure you are set up to view hidden files and folders in Vista (or 7).
    1. From the Start menu, click Open.
    2. In the Organize menu, click Folder and Search Options.
    3. Click the View tab.
    4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected.
    5. Click OK.
Next, you'll remove the QuickTime preference folder (and contained file).
    6. In Computer, open Local Disk: C or whichever drive your documents are stored on.
    7. Open the Users folder.
    8. Open the folder with the name of the Windows 7 user account in which the QuickTime file types are "greyed out".
    9. Open the AppData folder.
    10. Open the Local folder.
    11. Open the Apple Computer folder.
    12. Drag the QuickTime folder out onto the Desktop.
Now you'll rebuild the preference folder and file.
    13. Launch QuickTime. Check your file types again.
Are they still greyed out, or can you change them now?

  • Can't change Scratch disk is PS CS5.1

I can't change the scratch disk in PS on my Mac Pro. I hold down keys cmd, option, and shift to get Photoshop to allow me to dump prefs. I then go into Preferences and change the scratch disk another internal hd. I close PS, but it won't re-open unless I hold down the keys above. When I do get it open again the checkmark for the scratch drive is back where it was.
    Any suggestions?

No idea what the problem is but this is always a good starting point:-

  • How can I change the language back to English on Appstore?

I just recently upgraded my Ipod touch to iOS 5.0.1 and after that the language of applications Appstore & Itunes was set to French, while everything else is in English -as it is supposed to be as before the upgrade everything was in English-.
Currently the Language set on my Ipod is English (From Settings->General->International->Language->English).
The account for Appstore is not linked to any credit card it is a an account to only download free applications.
How can I set the language back to English?
    Thanks a lot,

Is the address on your account based in France ? The language of the stores should reflect the language of the country where your account is based, which isn't necessarily the same language as you've set on the device.
If your account isn't based in a French spealing country, then try logging out of the account (via Settings > Store) and then log back in (and also make sure that your address is correct and complete), and see if the language of the iTunes and App Store the reflect the language of the country where your account is based.

  • Can't change file association for Office

    Hi
I've previously gone to Apple Support without success on this - so I hope it's not too obvious a question!
I'm running Office v.X on my new Macbook, having previously uninstalled the demo for Office 2004 from the machine. However, when I save Word files emailed over to me they are associated with the non-existent 2004 version of Word (11.2.0) and consequently I can't open them from the Finder (gives error -10660 as it can't find this application).
While I can change my Word files individually to point at the v.X version of Word that's actually running on the Macbook, if I click Change All from within the Get Info... box then the application in Open with... reverts back to 2004 Word! This makes it impossible for me to universally associate my Word documents with Word v.X. Grrrr.
Apple have suggest that the Finder is picking up that Office 2004 is still the default application. However I ran the uninstall utility and there's nothing obvious in the Library/Receipts folder - where apparently you'd expect this to be set.
Any ideas as it's really irritating?! Please keep it reasonably simple for me
    Many thanks

    Hi, Marc.
I presume you've uninstalled the Office 2004 demo completely.

  • Can you change your library back after reverting to 6.5 from 7

I was "forced" to upgrade to itunes 7 with a "new" purchase. All of my songs are garbled/distorted. I use a custom built PC for "recording only", and am finding this annoying especially since my UAD soundcards for
Nuendo work best with Quicktime (6.5) not QT 7 that you "have" to have to run the new itunes. So I downloaded the older "green" version and unistalled the "blue" 7 version. Looks great...though my library is still "blue" and cannot be played or recognized by my old "working" version. Anyone have a clue as to how to go about changing your library for recognition purposes?
I have a session tomorrow and am hoping to get this resolved before the day ends. Any help would be Christams to me. I want to hear my songs...and I want my old green itunes back...is my library forever locked in the "new" version?
This is the error I get: The title "itunes Library .itl" cannot be read because it was vreated by a newer version of itunes.

There never were any xml files in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder, only the itl file is needed.
    ===
If you can't find a back up .itl file in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder don't worry there is another way.
So if you are giving up on the old v6 library, assuming you already copied the two library files to another folder, delete iTunes Liibrary.itl, then open iTunes.
iTunes should open and create an empty library, before you do anything else with your library, select Add Folder To Library and navigate to the folder where you saved iTunes Music Library.xml and import it.
This Apple article describes the process, but of course, you may not have save the xml file on the desk top.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93313
I hope that this will work across iTunes versions as the xml file is intended for use by other programs, but I haven't seen anyone do this going back from 7 to 6.

  • Can't change filetype extension!

I am having difficulty changing the filetype extension for a couple of files.
Basically I'm sharing a folder of files via SMB with a media player.
The files in question are jpg but the media player requires the extension .tbn to display then as thumbnails.
Initially changed file.jpg to file.tbn and all was well.
As I needed to check a few of these on the iMac I set .tbn files to open with Preview.
Now if I try to change newfile.jpg to newfile.tbn it changes it to newfile.tbn.jpg
Any idea how to stop this happening ? Is the cause obvious or obscure?
Tried RCDefaulApp which doesn't even seem to tie .tbn up with Preview or jpgs anywwhere.
    Baffled.

You probably have it set to "Hide extension" in the Finder, so when you try to rename xxx to xxx.tbn you are only renaming the initial part of the name, and the .jpg is still there.
Good thought, thanks, but I always display the extensions.
So if I click twice the name image.jpg shows, I then move the cursor to the end and replace 'jpg' with 'tbn', the file then becomes image.tbn.jpg.
I can do the same procedure with a different suffix for testing, say '.mpg' and I'm asked if I want to change the extension.
    It really is odd.
