Can't change Finder icon

Hi everyone,
I am trying to change my finder icon after installing Mountain Lion but am having problems doing so.
I have tried using applications such as Candybar and LiteIcon but neither of them work and the default finder icon just won't change, even after a restart.
Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone have a fix I could try? Thanks for your help.

Oh no, I'm sorry it didn't work for you!
It took me three attempts, but yes it was the only image I replaced. What I did was made a copy of the original finder.png first so that I had a backup. Then I replaced the original finder.png with my new finder image. I followed this post found here: http://macthemes.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=858576#p858576
This is all I did so hopefully it'll work for you somehow. Good luck!

What folders? If you mean the folders you can create to organise apps, then no, those icons are automatically generated from the icons of the apps inside the folder.

You cannot directly. If you have a jFrame (e.g.) with your own icon you can use one of the JDialog costructors using (Component owner, ... ). Then the dialog will display the same icon.

Hello,
I am currently using the AwOken icon set, which I downloaded on deviantart.com.
So... I'd like the typical folders
Pictures
Videos
Music
Documents
etc.
to use the corresponding icons from, well, acutally any icon set I am using. But when I right-click on any folder, I can't change the Icon (second tab). Am I doing it wrong or is that a bug?

So I tested it with a lot of other default XFCE themes and themes from the AUR (Greybird, Albatross and so forth). I can't change any icon. That's too bad, I have no clue whatsoever what the problem is, I was hoping I could change the bookmarks' icons in Thunar's sidebar as well.

Project published to Mobile Me Gallery, can I change the icon image?

I there a way to pick a "key frame" for an iMovie projec I have published to Mobile Me in the same way one can pick a "key photo" for a photo gallery published to Mobile Me? For example, I'd like to like those that visit my Mobile Me gallery to see the name of the fictitious movie from my movie trailers as the icon, rather than a random frame from the trailer itself. I've been hunting around, but i can't seem to find a way to do this, Thanks.

Well, this is a yes and no answer.
Yes, you could change an icon, But no, RoboHelp won't make it easy. What you will end up doing is massaging the JavaScript code for the WebHelp output. This particular change isn't really for the faint of heart. Oh, and you would likely have to change it each time you generate your WebHelp output.
I would encourage you (and others) to consider submitting a Wish Form to ask Adobe to put this on their radar for a future version.

How can I change the icon for incoming messages on iChat?

I already changed the icon for the ichat app, but whenever i get a new message it reverts back to the original icon with a number on the corner. I have an icon for the alternating messages i just don't know how to change it. HELP?!

It's a long time since I changed an Icon on anything on my computer.
The icon for the App is stored in the App and there are two ways to change it.
You can do a Get Info (CMD and i Keys together) on the app itself and then Paste a new icon to the top field.
The other way is to edit/change the icns file in the App itself.
Right/Control Click the app and choose Show Package Contents.
Open the Contents folder then Resources and the iChat.icns file is in there
I am presuming that if you use the first method - the bit that puts the Red area with the number in it uses something else (possibly the icns file)
I cannot find any "supply" of the red numbers. In fact I use Chax (An iChat Add-On) that changes this to the first part of the first IM that is not read - which suggests the red area is the important bit.
If you do try to edit the .icns file I would save the Original first.

Changing finder icon to open different folder

Found this once, but can't recall what I did. Need to change the folder that opens after you minimize it when clicking on the finder icon in the bar. Sorry if I missed the answer already posted, but couldn't find it in a search.

Do you mean you want to change the folder that is opened when you click on the Finder icon in the Dock? If so, go to Finder Menu->Preferences->General and change the "New Finder windows open:" popup to whatever you want. The default is your users home directory.

Do you mean an app icon? If you uploaded your first binary and then you made revisions to the app and changed the icon within the binary then the new icon will not change?

Can I change Contact Icons?

On previous phones, where it is possible to have multiple numbers for the same person, i.e. home/work/mobile, Nokia have always used different icons for each - the ones i remember are a house for home, factory for work etc. With the N80, the icons for phone, home phone and work phone are all the same, so if i call someone at work then home (as i have all their details stored as one contact) it is not obvious when using the dialled numbers list to work out which call is which? This has always been a frustration for me - is it possible to change the icons, and if so, how?

When you click on add detail to add an additional number for a contact, you get to choose the type of number it is first, e.g. telephone, mobile, fax, email etc etc. Most of them have their own icons. So you can have multiple contact entries/numbers for the same person, each with its own icon. Just remember that you hvae to be using phone memory to do this.

Hi. I want to know if you can change the picture/icon of an app. Everyone at my school needs to have an iPad but we are not allowed to have games on there. I want to play games at home but it would be a ginourmous pain if i had to download the apps apps I want to play and then delete them. The teacher at school are going throug our iPads and i was wondering I could change the icon picture to books or something and also if possible change the name.

No, it's not possible to change an app's icon or its name, only the developer of the app can do that.

Without this information it may be difficult or impossible to assist you in resolving your issue. Also indictate which operating system version is installed on your computer.

Can't change finder language

I use OS x mavericks. At first time I install OS X I choose Thai for default language. but after installed I change default language to English then everything change to English but in Finder still Thai (ex. Download, Document, Movie.). How can I change it to English.

There is no need to use a different keyboard to type Portuguese, if that is your question. All the special characters can be made via option/alt deadkeys from the standard US keyboard (if that is what you have). See

They do use a unique kind of hardware keyboard in Brazil (ABNT), which you could buy and connect via usb or bluetooth. You would also need to download and install a special keyboard layout to go with it. This article has info:

CProjects severity status can't chang the icon according to the formula

I defined severity in cprojects. If I used the “created evaluation” function, the severity status displayed correct. As shown in figure 1, the severity status changed the icon’s color according to the formula I defined. But in the dashboard and the project, the severity status only displayed the green icon for all projects, as shown in figure 2.
I checked the message, only If I have not created evaluations, the system cannot determine which status to display, it automatically displays the status assigned to the severity level 1. I assigned the green icon to the severity level 1.But I did defined the evaluations and used for threshold, as shown in figure 3.
I want the severity status in the dashboard and the project also changed according to the formula I defined liking in the evaluations. How can I do this.

Have you set the customizing for evaluations for the project types? You can do this manually by starting an extraction (like you did) or let the system do the checking for threshold value violations on saving (or with a batch-job).
Try the following settings for the project type
You have to assign an evaluation layout to the extraction layout 0_DASHBOARD. Else you won't see the threshold values in the dashboard.

Can't change alias icon

I've created an alias to a file on my Yosemite desktop. I want to change the icon, so I've found a PNG file I want to use.
When I open the Get Info window for the alias, click the little icon and copy/paste or drag the PNG file there, all I get for an icon is the generic PNG one.
I've tried opening the PNG in Preview and doing Cmd + A then Cmd + C to copy it that way, same result.
I've also tried with a JPG file and an ICNS file, same result (generic icon for each)
I've tried Relaunching Finder and doing killall Finder, didn't fix it,
Late-2013 rMBP with Yosemite 10.10.2.

Thanks for the heads up. Most of my folders are custom icons. However, I have never changed an "alias folder." I've always changed the original folder/icon. If I make an alias of it, the alias is of the custom icon.
