Can't change notification sounds

I can't seem to change the sounds used for notifications; the setting changes, but the notification still plays the default sound.
I have an iPod Touch 5g 32 GB running iOS 7.1.2. As of right now, I've only noticed the iOS mail app doing this, but I didn't even hear the default sound for a new iMessage earlier today.
To be exact, in Settings > Sounds > New Mail I have Circles set as the alert tone. When I receive a new e-mail, I still hear the classic ding, which is the default setting. iOS 7 has so many new sounds, so I'd really appreciate it if somebody could help me fix this.

Hi there,
I'm having a similar problem with my Google Maps app. The app does not appear in my notification settings. When I go into my settings app and scroll down to find Google Maps, the app is there, but when I tap on it, there is no option for notifications within the app's settings.
Here are the things I've tried:
- Uninstalled and reinstalled Google Maps
- Reset all my phone's settings
- The trick you suggested above. I also uninstalled the app and physically waited 24 hours to reinstall. Didn't work.
- Factory reset of my phone
- Updated iOS
- Updated Google Maps
None of these attempts made the app appear in my notifications settings, and none of these attempts triggered the app to ask permission for push notifications. I know that there are supposed to be notifications, because my boyfriend's phone has notifications enabled for Google Maps. I'm not sure when this bug first appeared, because I never needed the Google Maps notifications until a couple months ago when I bought a Pebble watch. However, I have seen a few people complaining of the same issue since iOS 8.
Any ideas?
I am having the same issue with Google Maps on my iphone 6 plus with 8.1.3. My wife has the regular iphone 6 and it shows in notification settings for her.
Not sure what the issue is with iphone 6 plus, but would like to figure it out. I have a Pebble too and would like to get it to work with that.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.

    - Apps are locked to the account that purchased them. Thus it appears that yor sone purchased the app.
    - To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.

  • HT3576 how to change notifications sounds of differient apps

how do you change notification sounds of differnt apps

    The short answer: you don't.
The long answer: iOS provides settings for the built-in apps and facilities of the phone, but it leaves the issue of notification sounds for other applications to the applications themselves. An application is permitted to either use the sound specified for a built-in (as defined in Settings > Sounds), or their tone, which is a sound stored in the application bundle itself. Most applications elect to use their own sounds and provide no mechanism to modify the sound used. iOS does not provide a mechanism to override how applications choose to handle their notifications (and which sounds to play).

  • Changed notification sound. Still getting old sound.

A friend of mine just got a new iPhone 6 and is trying to change the Notification sound to News Flash (Classic tone). When he goes to test it, the Tri Tone sound is played. I made sure that the contact doesn't have a specific tone that would play. The phone is running the latest version of iOS.
Has anyone had anything similar happen to them on the iPhone 6 or on iOS 8. My iPhone 5S is running the latest and greatest, but I'm not having that problem. I'm running out of suggestions for him to try. Any thoughts?

Log out of the account by tapping on your id at the bottom of the Featured tab in the App Store app (or in Settings > iTunes & App Store) and then log back in with the updated version of your account.

  • How can I change text sound iOS 6?

I have a new iPhone 4S, running iOS 6.  I have repeatedly tried to change the sound for when I receive a text, and it will not stay as selected.  I finally tried restarting the phone, but still will not accept selected sound.  It is playing the 'swoosh' sound, and have tried to change to either ding or default.  Can anyone tell me how to change it?

After reading another post re: iPhone 3GS, I tried selecting text sound, then going to contacts, picking one and selecting a sound for that contact, but don't want to have to go thru entire list!!  Still will not change sound for all.

  • Can I change mono sound into sterio sound

I have been working for weeks on 3 hour long DVDs about using PhotoShop Elements and have completed about 2 1/2 hours of shooting. I switched external mikes on my DV camera and when transfering to iMovie 6 I discovered that the first 2 1/4 hours were recorded with a mono external mike and only the last 10 minutes is with sterio sound. I was using my mics on my lap top and only plugged in my external speakers today.
I realized the sound was different with the two mics, and now realize 90% was recorded mono. I tried extracting the sound from one scene and then copying it into the second track, but both play out of the left speaker only.
I don't need sterio sound, but is there any way I can have this mono sound track come out of both speakers?

    Matt --
Thanks for your answer. I want to clarify a bit so you and others understand what my problem is and what I am trying to do. Perhaps your answer is the right way to go, but I need to be sure I am clear first because the title to this is a bit misleading.
I am editing footage shot by my Sony DV in iMovie 6. Since I am not facing the camera but it is over my shoulder, I am using an external mike. I have three weeks of shooting and I just discovered that I have been using a monoral mike, Which I did not notice since I was using my lap top speakers. I recently hooked up my external speakers and discovered sound coming from the left speaker only.
As stated, I don't need sterio, but I do need sound from both speakers. Had I known I was using a mono mic, I could have used two mikes and then led the inputs into the sterio input of my camera as I do with wireless mikes when I want sterio, but this has already been recorded.
I have not used Garage Band before but will open it up if this is the best way to go.

  • I can't get the sound on my 3GS to switch to vibrate using mute button and I can't change the sound with the sound buttons.

All of a sudden I can't control the volume on my phone with the buttons. I've checked and "change with buttons" is on. When I toggle the mute or volume button nothing happens on the screen either. It was just working yesterday so I'm really confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys!!!

I tried that too, it didn't help. Thanks though!

  • I have two monitors and often watch a film while browsing. How can I change the sound level of firefox so its not too loud?

I just want to be able to control the audio level of firefox separately from other running programs on the puter

    Hi jagrix,
Unfortunately, Firefox is yet to have it's own volume control. Consequently, unless a site has it's own volume control, you can not modify firefox's sound.
Personally, I think Firefox having it's own volume control could work out well for digital multitaskers! I'll make a suggestion on bugzilla right now. I will update this post with details of my bug id. later
    Hope this helps,

  • Can I change the 'delete song' Alert sound in iTunes?

My dog either has sensitive ears, or a sensitive disposition. Regardless of which it is, the alert sound produced by iTunes when I delete files affects him. He gets very upset, and won't settle down for five to ten minutes. I try to mute my sound when I delete files, but sometimes I forget.
Can I change the sound iTunes uses for the "Delete Alert"?
My dog thanks you for any assistance you can offer.
    Steve

    Ok Brannon,
You need to take a look at system prefs. Go to sound>sound effects.
You should see a whole list of alert sounds. Mine is set to funk, which is a dull and low 'thunk' sound. You might find one that your dog finds inoffensive. You can click on these and hear them. You can also choose where you them to play from. ie if you have iTunes blaring out of your hifi speakers, you can set your system alert sound to play thru your macs internal speakers. The best bit is that you can set the alert volume relative to the overall volume.
    I hope that helps you
Cheers, and woof woof wa-woof woof to your dog. Don't worry, he'll get it.

HOw can I change the sounds for mail, messages and alerts on my iPad 2?

  • Notification sounds and alarm vibrate

How do I change the sound for notifications from third-party apps (e.g. App of the Day)? By notifications, I mean the banners on the lock screen or on the top of the screen. When I go to sounds in settings, there is no option for notification sounds (iOS 8.0.2). It only has voicemail, calendar and reminder alerts. Also, is it possible to turn off vibration for the alarm and timer?

Look in settings within the app itself. If the apps do not offer that setting within the app, you can't change the sound. Not all apps give you the option.
