Can't change song order in playlists

Several weeks ago iTunes stopped letting me change the order of songs in playlists. When I try to drag and drop them to change up the order the track just snaps back into place.
I've gone over my settings several times trying to see if there's anything that got changed that might be causing this but nothing seems out of the ordinary.
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

Make sure neither Shuffle or Repeat are switched on in the playlist, that can prevent you reordering tracks. You'll find the commands for these in the Controls menu or the two central buttons below the Source list. Also of course make sure you click on the number column (extreme left) of your play list to highlight it.

I reinstalled whatever updated driver that wacom has out there, shut the system down for night, hoping for magic, but alas none to be had. So if I want to change song order, I network the laptop and desktop, share the screen on the laptop, drag and drop to my heart's content and curse Apple for making me work this hard to find the tool that was once at my fingertips. Apple also let me know that if I want to share songs in household that the hundreds on songs that were purchased for .99 need to be repurchased for another .30. Maybe Apple is holding my drag/drop tool captive til I pay up the money or Maybe the next update will fix the problem, I for one give up for now.

Changing song order in playlists - changes no longer show on ipod until sync

I organize my playlists according to how I rate songs; songs with higher ratings go at the top. When the last operating system came out there was a glitch where on the iPod (but not in iTunes) songs were ordered inversely, ie. songs with higher ratings were stuck at the bottom. This was annoying, but one bonus was that when rating songs on the iPod, the position of the song would change automatically. For example, if Song A had two stars but I changed the rating to 3 stars on my iPod, Song A would immediately move and join the other 3-star songs. The changes would then be tranferred to iTunes upon syncing my device.
Now, after having updated iTunes, the playlists are in the correct hierarchical order, but I can't seem to immediately change the order of songs in playlists according to their ratings. Instead, I have to rate the song and sync my device for it to change in iTunes, and then sync my iPod again to have the playlist updated on the iPod itself. This isn't a big deal, but I enjoyed the ability to instantaneously alter my playlists based on the song ratings. Am I missing something? Any advice?

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

- Unsync all music and resync
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

Changing song order in playlist

There's one playlist where I tried to drag the songs to change the order but it won't let me. All the other playlists it lets me. any ideas?

If you are making changes in the to the songs directly in the folders then iTunes may no longer recognise them (in fact in all probability no longer knows what the file is anymore). If you want to change details (titles, albums, etc.) you should do that within iTunes itself by right clicking on a song and choosing Get Info. Also moving files directly in a folder will cause iTunes to lose track of the location, I suspect the root of your problems is the changes you've made.

Can I change the order of playlists in the sidebar?

Is there not a way to do this? I kind of wanted to move some playlists up further, but it appears it's sorted alphabetically. Am I just going to have to put A) *playlist name*, B) *playlist name*?

As you have found the order is fixed alphabetical, however things are also grouped first into "special playlists", purchased, genius etc, then playlist folders, then smart playlists, then regular playlists. You may find adding some playlist folders helps you to organize the structure of your playlists. The only place I've found I needed to add an ordering letter/number was for my collections of audiobook playlists by author so that each series is presented in the correct order.

In order to update the order of items in your playlists on the iPod Nano, you have to update them on the computer, and then sync the updated playlists to your device.

To set iTunes to update iPod nano automatically with selected playlists:
Open iTunes and select iPod nano in the Source list. Click the Options button and click Music.
Select “Automatically update selected playlists only.” Select the playlists you want.

How to Change Song Order in User-Created Playlist

I have several playlists that I've created by just adding a bunch of songs to. I then would like to go into those playlists and change the order that the songs are listed in so that they play in that new order (they are initially listed in the same order that I added them to that playlist - i.e. the 1st song added is the 1st song in the playlist, then 2nd song aded is listed as the 2nd track, etc.), but I can't figure out an easy way to do that. I cannot drag a song up; if I want to move it up, I have to drag every song above it down (and then they get all out of order!). If I try to drag a song up, it goes to the very bottom of the playlist when I release the mouse button!
How can I change the order of songs that I've added to a playlist? There's got to be an easier way!

I already had the arrow pointing up in the track order header column, but your suggestion gave me an idea - I went up to "View" and then clicked on "Hide artwork column". That did the trick - I can now drag songs up and down in my playlists to change their order to my heart's content!

If you are looking at the entire music library ("Music") you can sort by any of the columns by clicking the column header. If there is a column you can't see, enable it by going to View > View Options.
Within a playlist, you can do the same, and in addition you can click above the column of sequence numbers, which will then allow you to drag tracks up or down to get any order you wish.

Song Order on Playlist

I am using a ZEN MX with current software and Creative Centrale. Is there some way to change the order of songs in a playlist with this model of ZEN? I can do it by dragging and dropping in my older ZEN V Plus.

HT2729 i downloaded 3 songs to my pc and sync'd my ipod and the songs do not tranfer. is this related to not having the proper itunes version vs ios? I cannot get the songs to sync, but I can move other songs to different playlists and they sync fine...

I have a couple of steps for you to try in order to get those songs transferred to your iPod touch. First, make sure all of your software is updated with the latest versions. If the songs were downloaded from iTunes, you will also want to delete the songs from your library and then download them again from the list of past purchases on your iTunes account. If you try a sync after those two steps and are still seeing the issue, then I would like you to try syncing the iPod by setting it to manually manage. An article outlining more information on manually managing your iPod sync can be found here:

You used to be able to create a playlist, shuffle it, then synch it to your ipod. This was done easily with a shuffle button in the library. In 11 that button is no longer there. How can you do this now?

Your question is clear, but you then go on to say something completely different. I've answered your question "how can (you) shuffle songs in a Playlist in iTunes 11".
In Playlists, click on the "start playing in shuffle mode" icon (that I've ringed). And...
In this next shot (the space you need to watch), you can see the Shuffle icon (ringed in larey lime) is blue, so it's "on", and I've also clicked on the "show me what's coming up next" icon (ringed in red). Study the list of upcoming songs. It's the Playlist we're in, but shuffled:

Now - if you actually mean something else, such as: "create the Playlist, adjust the order of the songs and then Sync it to the iPod"; then as before, you can drag songs within a Playlist to whatever order you want and Sync the Playlist - as before. I've no idea what the "button" you refer to, looked like. Can you explain?

I have home sharing turned on but can't figure out how to save the songs to the new computer.
First, make sure you've got the home share set up on both computers, as per the following document. If material on the original PC was bought from the iTunes Store, I'd use the AppleID you used for the purchases to set up the Home Share on both PCs.

Have both computers running and have iTunes open on both computers.
Now, in the iTunes on the computer you want to transfer music to, select the library that you want to transfer music from, as per the following screenshot:
Once the other library loads, go down to the bottom of the screen and in "Show:" select "Items not in my library":
If you want to import all of the songs you can now see, head up to the iTunes menu bar and go "Edit > Select all". Then head down to the bottom of the screen again and click the "Import" button in the bottom-right-hand corner.
If there's a lot of stuff in your original PC's library, the transfer may take some time.
