The only way I know of is to copy the entire content of your chat window (while it is still active) and then paste it into a text document (or, if it is short enough to fit the window without scrolling, take a screenshot). Once you terminate the chat, the record is gone (as far as I know).

In Messages on the iPad you need to be using an Apple ID (which you probably are)
You can then iMessage (the form of Apple Chat Messaging that is used) to other Apple IDs or iPhone numbers.
They have to be using iOS 5.5 or higher or OS X 10.8 on a Mac. ( A Mac could be up to OS X 10.8.2 if updated iOS devices could be up to iOS 6.0.1)
You then needs either WiFi access or a Data contract and an iPad that can do at least 3G (some have SIM cards)

You will need to remove it as your rescue email : log into your account via the 'manage your apple id' button on http://appleid.apple.com, select the 'Password And Security' section on your account's screen, and answer the two security questions that show - you should then be taken to another screen where you can change or remove your rescue email address.
Then try logging out of your account and then log back in and see if you can then use it as your primary email address.

Can't Chat with Someone Using Aim

Okay, so I've been able to use iChat to video chat with someone on a mac, and my friend has been able to video chat with PC users on Aim, but we can't chat with each other. I've adjusted the quicktime/system preferences settings like I saw in other posts, but to no avail. When I ask her to chat, it says "starting chat" and then pops up with the error. It tells her that it's timed out. The error code is at the bottom of the post.
I'm sorry to add another to the growing pile of "I can't video chat" threads, but I couldn't find the answer anywhere and am getting a little frustrated. Thanks in advance for any help!

Can Vid Chat with one computer login, but not the other--HELP!!!

When I login to my computer using my account, I am unable to video chat. However, when I login using my daughter's login, I can video chat. What gives? As far as I can see the settings are all the same. I can get as far as sending an invitation to video chat with somebody, but then it just churns while waiting for the other person to accept the invitation. In other words, they accept, but the last connection step doesn't happen. It happens when I'm logged in under my daughter's computer login, but not mine. Also, when I get an invitation to video chat, the same thing happens. I accept and then it just sits and churns waiting for that last step. I have a .Mac account and she has an AIM account, but it doesn't help when I switch to my AIM account. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

Go to Users/(your account)/Library/Preferences and delete com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist and restart iChat.

I can video chat with John, John with Mike, but not Mike with me?

My brother lives in Abu Dhabi and he and I can video chat. He can also video chat with my dad (Mike) who lives about 500 yards from me (in North London). But I can't video chat with my dad, nor can we audio chat!
We've both attempted to initiate the chat and get the error code "-8", upon clicking 'accept' the other party gets a message that the invite has been refused.
Can anyone offer any suggestions as to how I can go about getting this resolved? I'd like to get to the stage when all three of us can video chat at once.

First have you all set the Quicktime streaming setting, goto sys prefs/quicktime/streaming/streaming speed, set to 1.5mbps
In ichats prefs click on video and change bandwidth limit to none.
Restart iChat.
And also try logging on to AIM on port 443 rather than port 5190.
Go to IChat in the menu bar > Preferences > Accounts.
Log out of AIM and then use the Server Settings tab
Set the port to 443.
Log back in again.

I've been trying to chat with my family back at home but I can't. Only when I'm in the house will they show up in my buddy list but if I'm just even 5 mi. away I can't chat with them. What do I do?

In that case you are looking at the Bonjour option in the iChat > Preferences > Accounts.
This will only work where there are other Macs that have iChat Open (And the Bonjour Option On).
For this to Work away form Home you will need either an ID that can log in to AIM (An AIM Name, or An @Mac.com name or a MobileMe name)
You can also use a Jabber ID if you have one already, this includes a Google Mail ID if you have enabled the Talk option on your Google Account settings on the Google web site.
The people at Home would also need Screen Names or IDs (more on this to follow)
AIM names are free as are @mac.com names.
Mobileme names can be registered as Trial (Credit Card required and also an Active discontinuation before the 60 Days is up or you get charged).
Jabber names tend to need setting up/Registering with a third Party app like Psi as very few Jabber servers have Registration pages you can access with a web Browser.

It is involved more than complicated
AIM and Apple made an Agreement for Apple Name ending in @mac.com and @me.com to be recognised as Valid AIM Screen Names.
Therefore you can create a name in one and generally iChat will refer to it as the AIM Account/Buddy list.
You can Add the three types of Screen Name to that Buddy list.
There are hundreds of Public Jabber servers and thousands or private ones.
They are linked together as an overall network/service by being what is called "Federated"
This means that you can add Buddies with other Jabber Server names to a Jabber Buddy List (this included GoogleTalk as this is a Jabber server)
What you cannot do is add AIM valid names to a Jabber Buddy List or vice versa.

On the Getting a Screen Name page there are two menus towards the top.
The lower one has other How-To links (Start Up Screens, which you will not need and Add Buddies etc).

Following are the three ways.
1. (When the Table logging is activated)
TCode: SCU3
2. Go to SE16 -> put the table name as DD02L -> put the table name in the "Table Name" field and execute -> Check the entry in the field "Last changed by" (technical name: AS4USER).
3. Go to SE11 -> open the Table in Update mode and mark the option "Log Data Changes" at bottom.

Can't get to log in screen on Tesco credit card website

Hi,
I am trying to log into my Tesco credit card on line banking but can't open the logging on screen. When i try I get an error message saying The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. I am able to load this fine by using internet explorer.
Can anyone make any suggestions please?

No audio with video chat, but can audio chat!

When I video chat, I don't get or receive audio. Neither does the person I'm "chatting" with. I can audio chat with that person... no problem. But the combination video and audio is a bust. And here's the kicker: it's only when I'm chatting with a particular person. With others, the audio and video combo works perfectly. And to top it all off, this person can audio/video chat with others just fine too! Any hints? My OS X and router firewall are both inactive.
My computer:
QT streaming: 1 Mbps cable
OS X firewall: off
Modem: D-Link cable modem (DCM-201)
Router: Belkin 802.11 wireless router (Model # F5D6231-4)
- firewall is off
- not in bridge mode
No iChat add-ons
Connection speed: 4175 Kbps down, 302.3 Kbps up
Will work on getting the other person's info... I know they're on a MacBook Pro as well. Seems more like a bad preference file or something to me as this person is the only one I have trouble with and vice versa. Thanks for any help!

Thanks for starting a new thread.
Is the Modem in Bridge mode ?
Or is it doing DHCP ?
What ports are opened in either device ?
Do either have UPnP ?
With those speeds you can set Quicktime to 1.5meg
It will need you to restart iChat to see the new speed.
If devices use NAT you can have problems if the devices at either end do not like the NAT method used (there are about 6)
UPnP will get around this.

Can video chat with Imac non-intel but not with Powerbooks

Hi,
I have a Linksys WRT54G firmware v. 1.0.6 connected to a Comcast Cable modem. My IMac Intel Duo (OS 10.4.6) is connected via ethernet cable to the router. I am set to DHCP on router and IMac. My Quicktime settings is at 1.5mb, I have tried with firewall off and on with the appropriate ports open. I have tried upnp on and off.
I can connect to other Imacs (non-intel) but not to powerbook G4's. With the Powerbooks I can text chat, but sometimes they can see my text, but I can't see theirs. And every video chat is a fail to respond with the powerbook, but they can connect with others.
Is there anything else I can do?

Do you know how to access your modem ?
This should give you somewhere to turn off DHCP.
Then you go to System Preferences > Network and select the connection method you are using.
Then select the TCP/IP tab.
In the drop down that says Using DHCP change it to Manually. (or Manual with DHCP if doing James' way)
Type the IP you wish to use in the next entry field.
Copy the subnet mask form the Using DHCP
Copy any DNS servers listed.
Copy the router IP address which will be the modem or router in question.
Hit Apply.
Done.
