Can't checkout Project files from SharePoint 2013

I have library with 'require checkout' set that contains mpp files.  I have MS Project 2013 (SP1) installed locally.
If I choose edit for one of the mpp files, it simply opens in MS project as read-only and doesn't allow me to save it (only as a local copy). There's no option to check-out anywhere. Obviously I can check-out manually in SP before opening then check in again
afterward but it seems clearly wrong that I'm allowed to click "Edit", make changes, but then be unable to save back to SP again (even if you switch back to SP to check-out, Project still thinks you've opened it Read Only and won't let you save back
to SP).
What am I missing?

Hi Dylan,
Didn't you have this message just above the ribbon in MS Project 2013?
Using Project Server 2013, MS Project by default opens projects in read-only mode, the user having to intentionnally click on the "check-out" button to check it out. That being said, I'm not sure if the behavior is the same with a project plan opened from
a SharePoint librairy but it is worth checking this point.
Hope this helps,

  • Can't open Excel files from Sharepoint 2013

I am having an issue with opening Excel files from SharePoint 2013. If I click on an excel file it comes up with the error below.
If I click Try again I get the message below also:
If I try to open Word or PDF files they open correctly in the appropriate client and I have the option of checking them out and editing them. Any ideas why this would only be happening to Excel files?
    Thanks,
    Shaun

    Hi Shaun,
I understand that the Excel files cannot be opened from SharePoint in Microsoft Excel.
Can these files be viewed in the browser?
I recommend to download a copy of the files with issue and then open them in Excel to see if the issue still occurs.
If above cannot work, I recommend to repair Office.
    Best regards.

  • Can't open MS Word .doc files from SharePoint 2013 document library?

    Hello,
I have uploaded some MS Word files with .doc extension into a SharePoint 2013 document library, but they don't open when clicked.  I can do a number of things to the file, like view and edit properties, download and other things, but it does not
open up when mouse clicked.  There are PDF files in the document library and they open up just fine.  Any ideas?
I should add that MS Word 2010 .docx files can not be opened either.
    Thanks.
    Paul

    Hi,
    Whether you use office 2013.
Considering this .doc file can be smoothly opened in Office if you downloaded it to your local, it indicates that the Word document and Microsoft Word doesn’t have any problems. The issue may be caused by the compatibility between Office
    and your site.
1.Check whether you have the SharePoint OpenDocuments Class add on enabled at first.
    Internet Explorer >Tools iron > Manage add-ons >
Choose to Show All add-ons. Find SharePoint OpenDocuments Class and make sure it’s enabled.
2.go to Compatibility view settings > add your SharePoint site to compatibility view
    3.go to Internet Options,
Advanced > Reset… > Check Delete personal settings and reset
Security > Trusted sites > sites > add SharePoint sites to trusted sites
4.If it doesn’t work, please open Word, go to Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Protected View > Uncheck all.

  • Reporting Service issue: Unable to open reports (.rdl files) from SharePoint 2013

    Hi All,
I am facing issue while accessing reports from SharePoint sites and below is the error message.
Report Server has encountered a SharePoint error. ---> Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.SharePointException: Report Server has encountered a SharePoint error. ---> Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException: Virus Found:  ---> System.Exception:
For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors (Fault Detail is equal to Microsoft.ReportingServices.ServiceContract.RsExceptionInfo).
Error message shows "Virus Found", so we have disabled the antivirus scanning (Symantec Protection for real time scanning) and it started working.
We have tried to add ".rdl" and ".rsds" files in the exception, but didn't work. Noticed that issue is happening when we enabled the option "Scan the item when download".
Please suggest how we can rectify the issue without disabling any Symantec settings.
    Thanks,
    Anoop

    Hi Anoop,
Not sure this option "Scan the item when download" of Symantec will do what action, you may want to get more info from symantec, it seems you have posted in symantec official forum
here, I would recommend to keep an eye on updates there.

  • In anticipating upgrading to Premiere Elements 13, I need to know what "gotchas" there might be in loading project files from version 10 (in case someone needs another DVD/Blu-Ray)

Particularly, can I load project files from version 10 (in case someone needs another DVD/Blu-Ray)

    cbjameson
What computer operating system is involved?
There is no guarantee that a project created in an earlier version can be opened in a later one. Many times it can, but...
If you do try this, then please consider working from a copy of the project 10 project file and then trying to open that in 13/13.1.
Reason: projects created in an earlier version and then opened and edited in a later version cannot be opened again in the
    earlier version.
And, there is always the issue of maintaining the connect of the source media with the project file. Is this move from 10 to 13/13.1
happening on the same computer and are the source media in the same place where they were when they were first imported
into the 10 project. Disc menus consideration may enter into this depending on your details.

  • How can i deploy sandboxed solution .wsp file to sharepoint 2013 online using powershell script?

Is there any way to deploy the Sandbox solution .wsp file to sharepoint 2013 online publishing site using powershell or CSOM or any other way?

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to deploy sandboxed solution .wsp file to sharepoint 2013 online.
"Add-SPSolution" command is not available in SharePoint Online management shell. So, we cannot use PowerShell to update and deploy a solution in SharePoint Online environment. Meanwhile, here is index of Windows PowerShell for SharePoint Online
    cmdlets for your reference:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/fp161364.aspx
    You can CSOM to deploy solution using helper class from CodePlex. The activation code is as follows: SandboxSolutions.ActivateSolution(siteCollectionURl, cookies, "solution_name.wsp");
About the Client Side Object Model (CSOM), it is a development related issue, we have a specific support channel for the SharePoint developers, so I recommend you go to our MSDN forum for further assistance.
Here is a similar thread for you to take a look at:

In addition, if you would like to upload and activate sandbox solution manually, you can refer to:

  • Error occurs when I open the tasks list in MS Project Professional 2013 from SharePoint 2013

    Hi,
I have created a SharePoint 2010 workflow for a tasks list that updates a list item column if the Date Complete <= Today's date & Percentage Complete = 100%
I used 'Set Field in Current Item' in the workflow & the values are updated in the list for the current item.
However, when I open the tasks list in MS Project Professional 2013 from SharePoint 2013, then I get a error "We can't write task - taskname to the SharePoint site. This is either because tasks list is in read only mode or because this task has a column
    that requires unique value."
If I remove the 'Set Field in Current Item' in the workflow, then the error does not occur. However, the 'Set Field in Current Item' in the workflow is required.
Please provide solution to this issue ASAP. Your reply will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Jack,
A shot in the dark here.  I'm not convinced the error is from the workflow.  What is the definition of the list item column in SharePoint?  Have you set the column to requiring a unique vale?  Look at the column definition.

hi i have just completed an imovie project and tried to save a hard copy on the desktop so i dragged the project file from the home page then movies folder and now the prioject seems to be lost , how can i get it back ?

It's a Finder feature, related to Quick Look. You can hit the space bar in the file list to get a preview.
If that doesn't work, you may have an issue witha  preference file or similar. I find rebuilding the launch databse works quite well resilving tis kind of thing, as does trashing Finder preferences

unfortunately, like the previous 6 versions of GB, MIDI export is not supported. you would need to open the file in Logic in order to do that

  • Problem opening documents from SharePoint (2013) libraries with Office 2010 and 2013 components installed

    Hi
I've been encountering the problem of Office files failing to open from SharePoint 2013 libraries with the prefix of 'ms-excel:ofv|u|' etc. in the url. Following the
helpful questions and answers in the forum, I've identified the likely cause as the fact that my main Office installation is 2010, but I also have installed OneDrive for Business 2013 (which I need in order to sync document libraries with my local drive).
The solution I've seen suggested elsewhere of deactivating the SharePoint integration of Office 2013 components fails for two reasons: there is no way (or at least, I can't find one) of deactivating SharePoint integration probably because, deactivating
SharePoint integration would likely stop the syncing of libraries/folders.
One thing that I have noticed in my case that I've not seen mentioned elsewhere is that if I right-click a document and select 'open in new tab/window' the required
document opens directly in the relevant office package. I don't know if this is a useful observation, but it seems to be new information.
My question is, is there a way I can continue to sync libraries and open Office documents directly in Office 2010? My thoughts are possible changes to registry settings
(which I can do, but don't know enough to find the correct ones myself) or (re)installation of software in some appropriate order to leave the correct settings.
I have 'repaired' my Office 2010 installation without any observed affect on behavior.
    Thanks
    Ray
(I've just seen a suggestion that Office 2010 SP2 may fix this issue. I've requested to test this, but whilst this may fix my problem, rolling it out to
other users may be more problematic. In the meantime, other suggestions of solutions are welcome)

    Hi,
According to your description, it is a good way to do a test about office 2010 SP2, here is an article about this issue- limitations of using the OneDrive for Business sync app with Office 2010 applications , it may help you.

  • Extracting documents from Sharepoint 2013 Content Database

harepoint 2013 stores documents in the WSS_Content database in a table called DocStreams.
Up until Sharepoint 2010, files where stored in a single row in a VarBinary column. Since Sharepoint 2013, files are stored in multiple rows using Shredded Blob storage.
Does anyone know how I can piece together the files from the shredded storage in c#?
I have found many exampled online to extract files from SharePoint 2010 and earlier but they only support a files content being stored in 1 row.

Just wondering, can't you attach the database in a new site and access documents? As I know, in SharePoint 2013 they have changed architecture to manage versioning. In pre-SharePoint 2013 every individual versions was a duplicate copy of the  document
    - which would increase db size and would make it difficult to move documents in the cloud. So in SharePoint 2013 they use delta concept - where if you edit a document which creates a new version, the version is the delta (changes) to previous version.

  • Bypass content-based format detection so I can use a custom iFilter in Sharepoint 2013 Search

Can I get SharePoint 2013 Search to bypass the content-based format detection and use the file extension to determine the format (and therefore the format handler so that I can use a customer iFilter)?
We have a proprietary file format which uses xml, and we use a specific filename extension to indicate the type of file.  We have a custom iFilter to parse the file, because we only want some of the content to be indexed.  The iFilter works with
Windows Search.  I’m now trying to use our custom iFilter to search the same files with SharePoint 2013.  SharePoint 2013 Search appears to determine a file’s format from its content and not from its file extension (I have confirmed this by changing
the extensions of .docx and .txt files).  SharePoint 2013 search appears to use the built-in XML format handler to index our proprietary files.  Can I get SharePoint 2013 Search to bypass the content-based format detection and use the file extension
to determine the format (and therefore the format handler)?  I think SharePoint 2010 may allow this, but I can’t find out if/how it is done in SharePoint 2013.
I understand that built-in format handlers can’t be replaced by custom iFilters, but I don’t want to replace the XML format handler for .xml files.

    Hi jeh271,
quite interesting, because as i know iPersistStream should be installed when you need to use ifilter when using windows search.
just curious, if you also restart the spsearchhostcontroller?
as i know the search should have the content-based format,we cant bypass it, if we bypass it, then it may broke.
i saw some thread about this before:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/944e6878-a7f0-4c0e-98b7-a7fb9faeef1b/bcs-connector-and-mimetypefield
    ifilter example:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh694268(v=office.14).aspx
last time i did this, seems similar issue:
    • The custom iFilter is working in SP 2010 but when we followed the same process of registering the iFilter in SP 2013, it was not working.
    • So, we knew that we were some missing some extra step in registering the filter in SP 2013.
    • Finally, we involved the Product group and we found out that we need to run an extra PowerShell commandlet apart from following the steps to register it in SP 2010 (given in this link:- http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh694268(v=office.14).aspx )
    • We ran the commandlet described here in this article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219556.aspx.
    • The New-SPEnterpriseSearchFileFormat cmdlet adds a new file format and a corresponding file name extension to the search parsing system. This binds the file format to a filter-based format handler in the search parsing system. Thus, the search parsing system can only parse the new file format if the user has installed a corresponding filter-based format handler, an IFilter, for the new file format. If the installed IFilter registers more than one file name extension, the user must use the New-SPEnterpriseSearchFileFormat cmdlet to add a new file format to the parsing system for each of these file name extensions. The user must also ensure that the file name extension of the new file format is a member of the file-type inclusion list. The file-type inclusion list specifies which files that are crawled, based on their file name extensions. The system will only consider the new file format after a restart of the content processing components
    • The example for our scenario would be something like this:-
New-SPEnterpriseSearchFileFormat -SearchApplication $ssa -FormatId dwg -FormatName DWGFiles -MimeType application/dwg
    • Then, we restarted the SharePoint Search Host controller service on the machine where you have installed the iFilter and this resolved our issue and we were able to successfully search with .dwg files using the custom iFilter.
i am not quite sure if search treating your file as an XML file, if it is true, perhaps you can check this xmlmapper:http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff795813(v=office.14).aspx

  • Disable Edit Report Option from SharePoint 2013 PowerView Dasboard

    Hi All,
I have PowerView Dashboard in Sharepoint 2013, In a Preview Bar there are three options i.e. File, Edit Report, Full Screen.
The requirement is disable only Edit Report Option from preview bar not all.
Please help me if there is any possibility for the same.

    Hi,
Based on your description, you want to disable the edit report option from SharePoint 2013 PowerView Dasboard.
    There is a workaround:
You can change the permission of the report. You should upload the report to a SharePoint library and set a user have read-only permission of the report. When the user open the report and save the changes, it will have error. The user cannot edit the report.
The article below is about change the report permission in order to disable the edit option.

  • Word 2013 slow to open documents from SharePoint 2013

    Hi all,
Word 2013 running on a Windows 8.1 client is take 2 or more minutes to open a document from SharePoint 2013. Excel takes less then 10 seconds from the same site in SharePoint.
I have remove all proxy configuration from IE, clear the Auto Detect Settings. Added the URL's to the intranet zone and disabled all IE addons. I have also performed a reset on IE, reinstall of Office and tried a number of workstations. All have the same
issue. The document just take forever to open.
Checking with Fiddler, I can see 3 requests hit the SharePoint server then nothing... after a few minutes the document opens.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers
    Craig

    Hi Craig,
For troubleshooting your issue, please take steps as below:
1.Open IE, go to "Tools > Internet Options > Connections > Lan Settings" and uncheck "Auto Detect Proxy".
2.From the File tab in Word application, select Options and then click on Advanced and then in the Display section of the dialog, check the box for
    Disable hardware graphics acceleration.
3.Edit the registry at HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Word.Document.12\shell\Open and deleting the ddeexec key.
