Can`t choose 10.4 as start up system

Hi,
I installed System 10.4 on a disk with two partitions. One with 10.2.8 and the other with 10.4.
If I open System Preferences and choose the partition with 10.4, and then click on restart, the computer always starts using 10.2.8.
It is a G4 sawtooth with a Hitachi drive (250 GB) which is connected to an ACARD 6280M.
This seems so strange to me, that I even can`t ask a specific question.
If you have a solution or an idea for this behavior, let me know.

In his post he said he was already doing this. You should read the guys post a little more carefully. It always frustrates me when I get replies like this plus it makes it harder to seperate the wheat from the chaf.

Hi all! I was trying to install Linux on my Mac, so I downloaded a program called rEFIt to be able to do so. It didn't work so I uninstalled it. I always use Windows as my default Start-up system. But now I can't. If I use Mac OS X then next time I reboot, the computer will go back to Mac OS X and not to Windows. So everytime I use Mac OS X. I have to change the startup disk settings because it won't remember. I tried repairing the disk, reseting the EFI but nothing works.
How can I fix this?

If you have Apple Care, call them and get a case number. Otherwise, take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP. Whichever is more convenient for you.

It starts as soon as Adobe fulfils your order. Practically speaking, the date that Adobe receives your first payment.
I've never seen an option to nominate a start date.

wanting to sign up with bt infinity and bt sports, but i have a contract with talktalk that ends 2/6/14, and they want £200 for youview box if i end contract early
my question is, can i place an order with BT today but choose to delay the start date til 3/6/2014 avoiding the stupid penalty?
i want to get BT ordered this week as some great deals and quidco cashback that end in 4/5 days

i've tried another number and the chap said that if i ordered over the phone it is possible to specify a date, but he wasnt sure about online. he said he didnt think there was a way of finding out apart from going right thru the ordering process

You can start the playlist playing in the iPod app and then switch into the Photos app and start your (non-music) slideshow - as you've found out you can currently only select a single track in the Photos app. Whether that will change in iOS 5 I don't know, but you could try leaving feedback for Apple : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

Can I choose which programs or apps upload data to iCloud?

My iCloud account tells me that my 5GB are full (that's right from the start when I updated the software to iOS5 :-S) Well, I noticed that there are actually just a few apps that I would want to make data backups for in iCloud. Can I choose which programs use that function? The only option I found so far is to turn the data backup function off or on, for ALL the apps. But I only want to use it for a FEW ones! Is this supported in iOS5??
PS. How come it gets full so quickly? The programs that uses most data (Hipstamatic for example) use only barely 0,5GB. So what I can see the 5GB shouldn't be full yet. What have I missed?

I think starting from the second home screen, the new app will be placed in the first available space. If this is the case, you would be able to control the placement manually by making sure your landing screen has empty icon slots and all previous screens, with the exception of the first one, have all of the icon slots occupied. I did run across an app that seemed like it would allow the user to create placeholder icons on the home screens but I can not think of the keywords to pull it up now. There are several icon creators/enhancers that may do the same thing. You can use one of these apps or use the Safari button to Add to Home Screen, to fill up the screens. You could even use a folder to store and deploy your screen filler icons. It seems like it would be more trouble than it's worth but I do have my home screens assigned for different roles. Hopefully Apple will continue to refine the user interface.

You can view any content that is in your iTunes library on the PC via the Apple TV if it is in the correct format.

Thanks for answering. The version is XI.0.10. I just did the update yesterday hoping that I could now properly edit a scanned pdf document. Yes, it's happening on most all scanned documents. I followed your steps & found the list of fonts used in the document & then attempted to edit. The same occurs. When I type in a correction, I get an error alert... "the original font (in this case Fd 5805) is not available or can't be used in editing. Acrobat is using the font Minion Pro in its place."
When I select the text & right click as you suggested, my only choices are cut, copy, delete or select all, no "edit text".
I have no other options to choose another font. Thanks for any help you can direct my way.

When sending from a mobile app, how can I choose which of my computers to open the document on?

I have a laptop and a desktop computer connected to creative cloud. How can I choose which machine to open up a document from my iOS app? I don't want it to open on both overtime I send something from my iOS device.

Can't choose disk in Startup Disk?

Why might a disk not be available to choose in the Startup Disk prefpane?
After a restart, my Xserve (Xserve1,1) started up on the bootable clone (Bay 2) I keep up-to-date with Carbon Copy Cloner. The original system drive (Bay 1) is visible and mounted. I can read from it and write to it and I've verified the disk and repaired permissions. However, I can not choose it in the Startup Disk prefpane.

Can't choose bootable partition at startup

Apart from what I'm about to say, my system is working just fine. It boots up quickly, loads the desktop, and runs all apps snappily. It receives regular maintenance with both TechTool Pro 4 and Diskwarrior with no issues.
When I attempt to boot up from my new Maxtor bootable partition by holding down the option key on start up, it doesn't show up as a choice (firewire of course). I can only see the main HD as well as my Techtool pro edrive. However, the animated watch icon that appears while it loads whatever it needs to before a choice can be made now never stops and no choice can be made this way at all!
But if I boot up into the main HD as normal, choose 'startup disk' from system prefs, I can see the bootable partition just fine, and can choose to restart from it - which I've done successfully.
Running FSCK in single user mode reveals no problems, but, since installing the Maxtor files, before single user mode finishes installing, I get this:
USB optical mouse: family specific matching fails
USB drive: family specific matching fails
Each shows up 10 or 12 times as it tries to make the match. There are others in the list but they scroll too quickly to make a note of.
It also shows:
Com.Maxtor.IOPowSec.00 overriding init
So suspecting the Maxtor files had something to do with it I uninstalled them and restarted with/without the drive attached. The 'family specific' issues disappeared as well as the 'Com.Maxtor.IOPowSec.00 overriding init' . Instead I get these three:

Com.apple.driver.pioneersuperdrive
Com.apple.driver.itunesphonedriver
has no kernal dependency
Holding the option key on startup still doesn't show the maxtor, and I still can't choose from the drives that do appear.
When I boot into the main HD, the Maxtor shows up on the desktop as normal even though the driver files are gone (it's obviously plug & play anyway) and whatever this lack of kernal dependency is, nothing appears to be affected in the Mac's normal use.
Sorry for the lengthy explanation but I'm hoping somebody can shed some light on what might be happening.

Yes, I'm at a loss here. sudo wants /var/run/sudo to be owned by root and writable only by root, but yours is OK, so I really don't understand what the meaning of those error messages could be in your case.
The only thing I can suggest at this point is to enable the root user in NetInfo Manager (Security > Authenticate..., then Security > Enable Root User), log in as root, and issue the commands there (without the sudo prefix, which is not needed when logged in as root):
bless --info "/Volumes/<MaxtorVolumeName>/" --verboseWhat does the output of this command say?
bless --setBoot --folder "/Volumes/<MaxtorVolumeName>/System/Library/CoreServices"
Regardless of whether this helps you to fix the bootable Maxtor partition problem, there is something awry going on here and at this point I would start considering an Archive and Install, unless someone more knowledgeable than me knows how to fix it (it should be fixed). Just out of curiosity, after having enabled the root user in NetInfo Manager, try to run the following command in your administrator user account:
sudo -vDoes it still output those error messages?

5800; Choose offline mode at start up

I have searched but wasn't able to find any answer.
Is it possible to choose offline mode at start up on a 5800 XpressMusic?
I previousle owned an SE phone where I could do just that.
On start up I had to choose if I wanted "Flight Mode" or Normal.
This is ofcourse useful when flying, as you are not allowed to use a transmitter/receiver of any kind in air.
Before entering the plane I just shut down the phone and when in the air I want to listen to some music and switch on the phone and as far as I can see I have to start the device as normal in order to be able to change profile to Offline.
So anyone know if this is possible on the 5800 XM?
