Can't choose a user when logging in

Hello,
I've bought a macbook pro today. The store had none in stock so I took the showmodel. They told me they would 'wipe' it for me. When I turned it on I got to configure all the usual stuff, timezone, admin user etc. Everything seemed to go fine. But when the login screen appeared it only had the user 'kiosk'. Not my own user. Also, it logs in without me clicking that user. I went to accounts and disabled autmatic login but to no avail. I can't remove the 'kiosk' user either. Whatever I try on the accounts page, the login screen just logs in kiosk straight away.
How can I remove this annoying behaviour? Also, is it possible to do a full clean install, i'll upgrade to 10.8 as soon as I can anyway? I don't have any discs.

Return it and let them restore it to its original condition. Then, on first boot you can set it up appropriately. If you're migrating from another machine to preserver all previous user and network settings and 3rd-party apps, then carry in a bootable clone on an ext HD or the old machine. Anything less, IMO, is unacceptable.

Can't open AI VIs when logged in as a restricted user

I have a VI that does simultaneuos analog I/O (LabVIEW 6.1, Windows XP). This VI works fine when I am logged in as administrator, but when I try to run this VI from a restricted user account LabVIEW can't find the AI VIs (AI Config, Start, Clear and Read). All AO VIs can be found. I have changed the restricted user's permissions to the National Instruments folder to full control, as described in http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/BB393E7B361E939886256EFD007AC591 but I still can't run my VI.
Does anybody know how to solve this problem?

Unfortunately I can't try your solution on the computer where the problem occurred because it is used in another course for the moment and is therefore not available. But I tried to recreate the problem on another computer. I created a restricted account and when logged in on that account I opened my VI and it worked fine... (all subVI:s were found). By default, the restricted account had Read & Execute, List Folder Contents and Read permissions for the MAX folder. So, I then unchecked the Allow-boxes in an attempt to recreate the problem, but the VI still worked on the restricted account. Then I checked the Deny-boxes for the permissions mentioned above, but the VI still worked. Since I couldn't recreate the problem I don't know if your solution is the right one, but at least I can draw the conclusion that it is possible to run my VI from a restricted account.
But I will try your solution on the computer where the problem occurred when it is available and I will let you know whether the problem was solved or not.

Can't Choose Page Range when Exporting PDF from InDesign

Are you aware of this bug? If it's not a bug, how do I fix it?

Alternate layouts are used for things like horizontal and vertical orientations of the same layout for use on tablets. I suspect there's some coverage in the Help files -- being a print guy I don't mess with them.
It may be that you only have one layout and ID just shows you that one inthe dropdown. I can't recall that I ever used the dropdown to try to select the range -- I always just type what I need in the field.

Can't choose picture size when uploading to Flickr

somehow I can't choose any bigger size than "Web" when uploading to Flickr, although the picture is far larger.

Same problem with a 270k photo that is 2200 x 1700 jpeg. The Flickr FAQ states a 10MB photo limit for Free accounts and pictures are scaled down with the maximum of 1024 being the biggest for free accounts. The other two iPhoto Flickr options may be for Pro account. I hope not.

EAS 9.3.1 Can't choose planning outline when creating new variable

I need to develop a new business rule for production but I can't choose a planning outline for my new variable. Nothing shows up under planning. I can see the prod planning server in prod, but I can't see the dev planning server in dev. Does anyone know how to fix this? I just recycled and there was no change.

Once you have restarted eas, planning services, make sure you log into the planning application first, then open EAS and try again.

Unable to create new user when logged as SYS or SYSTEM user. Oracle 11g

Hello I installed oracle 11g databse. The installation went OK.
But when I tried to create a new user or alter an existing I always got "ORA-01031: insufficient privileges".
However I was able to alter SYS user when I was loged in as SYS or SYSTEM user when I was loged in as SYSTEM.
I am also able to create new tables, drop tables, query tables, create and drop synonyms and all other things except manipulate with users;
Can anybody tell me where could be the problem?

I have checked the roles DBA, RESOURCE..(I am sorry byt I dont know what is role CREATE). SYS user has all these roles with admin option and default checked.
I am using oracle Enterprise manager, but I dont know where should I click on the red mark? Where can I find it?

you can refer to the name of the currently logged in user using :APP_USER. to capture the login info, i'd add an htmldb process to my app that fired "After Authentication" and simply inserted :APP_USER and sysdate into my logging table. for the logout case, you could change the "Logout URL" of your current authentication scheme to one that does whatever it's currently doing plus the logging. so i Logout URL of...

Can operations continue to run when logged in as another user?

I've logged in as myself and I have set an operation to run, its going to run for a while and I would like the ability of my wife to log in. When you do this the operation pauses while logged in as her.
Can it continue to run at the same time?

Try logging into your user while holding down the shift key on your keyboard, to supress any startup items that may be interfering with your program.
If that does not do it, look for a preference file in you user folder by choosing the Go menu from the Finder and selecting Go to Folder and enter ~/Library/Preferences and checking for files having to do with your application. If there are any, move them to your desktop and try again.
If that does not fix it, move them back, replacing the new ones that will be built. Also, if your program uses any data files or libraries when started up, try removing those. Again, if not fixed, put them back.

Can't access standard account in system preferences/Users when logged in to admin account.

I want to delete the account, but when I unlock Users i can't click on the standard account.

I know you have mentioned that you unlocked the users but just to make sure. You clicked the lock in the lower left hand corner. provided your password when prompted and it still would not allow you to select other user accounts?

Can't mount firewire disk when logging in remotely

I've set up port forwarding on my router so that I can log in to my network remotely and grab files from my computer and various external drives. This works great, however, one disk, the only external firewire drive, doesn't show up in the list of things I can mount. Both internal ATA drives show up, as does the external USB drive, and any CDs/DVDs that happen to be in the player at the time. When I do a "get info" on the firewire drive it's permissions are set to read and write. I'm the only user set up on the computer and have admin privileges. Neither networking or privilege stuff are areas I know a ton about... what am I missing? Thanks!

Recent update and now I can't click on user to log in!

The weirdest thing. I accepted an Apple Update - unfortunately I didn't write down exatly what was in it, but I think there was a Java upgrade and a couple of other things. The end result is that when it rebooted, my 2 users come up on the login screen, but I can't click on either one! The cursor moves (either with a USB mosue or my bluetooth MagicPad) but when I position it over the user's name and click, nothing happens. Anyone have any idea what this is and how I fix it? I need to log in but my "mouse click" isn't working!

What about using the keyboard to type the first letter of the name, then hit return? Does that get you in?
If it does, be sure to run Disk Utility and REPAIR (or Verify if you can't repair).
Also, you have to eliminate a cabling problem, such as the mouse being pulled halfway out of its socket.

404 can't find page Error when logging into Exchange 2013 OWA, after a refresh, login works

I've upgrade two of my customers to Exchange 2013.
On of them was coming from 2007, and the other was already running 2010.
Migration from both of the servers went good.
However with the customer which upgraded from 2010 to 2013 i'm experiencing strange OWA behavior:
When I login to OWA on https://owa.contoso.com/owa, and input my credentials and click sign in: I receive this error:
404
can't find page :-(

But... when I click: "Refresh the page" of just hit F5, the login proceeds, and my OWA is displayed and working fine.
This behavior only happens with my customer which was upgraded from 2010 to 2013.
The customer which i've upgraded from 2007 to 2013 doesn't experience this problem.
I've matched the IIS settings and redirect/ssl options on both servers. They are the same.
I've tried other users and i've experienced that on one user, the error message didn't appear.
When I try to delete the Exchange atributes from the user, (after exporting the mail to a PST file) and re-add the Exchange attributes, the message is gone. This isn't a solotuion however, since i've got 166 users, and about 150 of them, get the error message.
New users don't get the error.
Anybody got any clues?

From your description, I would like to verify the following thing for troubleshooting:
Please make sure that the authentication is set to Basic Authentication and Forms Authentication is disabled on OWA and ECP virtual directly in IIS. After the above settings, please restart IIS by running IISReset /noforce command.

Can't add any users while logged in as the ADMIN

Back in my post, http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5314598#5314598 , I was stuck in a broken auto login, unable to get past the solid blue screen. I was able to fix that but now I can not add any new users to the accounts pane. Logged in as the ADMIN, I click on the + and nothing happens. I can not add anymore accounts. What can I do to solve this?

It is probably some residual effect from your single user mode actions detailed in your previous post.
Run *Repair Permissions* from Disk Utility to see if that is the cause.
If that doesn't fix it, try deleting the com.apple.loginwindow.plist from your admin account's Library/Preferences folder.
There is also the same file in
HD/Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow.plist
but I am not sure about the consequences of deleting that, as I've never done it.
Whichever you delete, log out and log back in again to re-create them.

Can't choose my country when paying for Creative Cloud

I live in Spain so I should be paying in euros but every time I try to pay it automatically chooses Australian dollars and Adobe is not accepting my purchase.
What can I do?

Hi Delial,
The email you use here on the forums is associated with Australia for the country which is probably the cause. You'll probably need to change the email address for your current Adobe ID (even though its correct) to something else in order to free it up. Then create a new Adobe ID with the former email and correct address and country.

I can't choose Canadian dollars when picking a CC plan?

Right here https://creative.adobe.com/plans there's no option for Canadian dollars when choosing a plan. So I'm stuck picking US? When the dollar fluctuates, I get to pay more or less each month? That's not fair. I hope they're adding Canada as an option soon.

Lunchababe, as of now we do not have the option to pay in Canadian dollars. So, you need to pay in US dollors only.
Hopefully, in future we might add that as well but not sure when.
