Can't choose an address book group?

I created two groups in my Address Book, only one of which should be sync'd to my phone. However, iSync only gives me the choice of "All Contacts." The Help makes it sound like I should be able to choose which group I want to sync, but I can't seem to figure out how. I have tried both folders and smart folders, but I never get any choice.
I have seen notes that say support for Motorola phones is sketchy at best but it does sync if I leave it as All Contacts (it just syncs a ton of entries I don't need in my cell phone's address book.)

When new contacts are added, they are added to whatever account is set to the default.
To add a contact to another group:
Select Contacts
Select Groups.
Turn off contacts for all but the account desired to add the contact to.
Select Done.
Add the new contact.
Select Groups.
Turn on all contact groups.
Annoying, but it works.

I'd like to share an address book group called 'work contacts' with a colleague. I managed to allow him to share my address book, but he could see all my contacts. Is there a way to allow him to subscribe to that group alone?

iCloud appears to provide no Address Book sharing. You might be able to do this through Google, but it would be likely to be all contacts or none.
iCloud allows you to share calendars privately (editable if you wish) to other iCloud users or publicly (non-editable) to anyone - they would need a CalDAV client to read it, such as iCal or Google Calendars.
You share individual calendars, so private events should be in their own calendar which is not shared.

How can I organise my address book groups?

I have so many groups in Address book that I have to scroll and scroll to find one. Surely there must be a way to organise them? Is it not possible to make folders?

Perhaps you are talking about being able to type the
first letter of a group and it highlights the first
group beginning with that letter. A bit useful, but
not much help, really when putting addresses in
groups.

can be done. Why on earth can't these groups be
nested? It's possible in all the other Apple apps.

Yes, or you can type as much of the name of the group as you want to get more specific results.
And yes, what few suggestions are here are simply possible work-arounds for a function that you desire that just might not be there, at least to our knowledge ... there's always apple feedback

How can I copy the contents of an address book group

Does anyone know how I can copy the entire contents of an Address Book group and paste the results into an e-mail to send to others? When I select the group and then the "copy" tool, it copies only the first address in the group. If I select "select all", it selects all e-mail addresses everywhere, not just the ones in the intended group.

He did not want to add them all to his address book; he simply wanted to have my long list of staff email addresses without having to type it or create it himself, like this: [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], etc. We used to use an email application called Eudora which allowed you to copy and paste group lists as though they were just text characters. With Mail (and Address Book), everything is connected to everything else and a group list is actually a set of flagged contacts from your "All Contacts" list.

It is using the same database on disk. You may have to re-launch Mail.

ISync syncs to wrong Address Book group

When I sync my phone (Nokia 3230) with my MacBook, I designate the Address Book group titled "Contacts in 3230" to be synced. But contacts that I've added to the phone (my usual way of adding new contacts) are transferred to my "All" contacts in Address Book, but NOT to the designated group. To correct this, I have to manually try to remember what contacts were added to the phone, and then copy them from "All" into the "Contacts in 3230" group.
How can I make iSync sync to the designated group?

I have the same problem with a Nokia 6230. Really annoying as i sync has now cluttered up my mac address book with phone contacts that i wanted in a specific group called 'nokia back up' Also I tried putting a test item in this folder and this did not download onto the phone. I don't want my phone filled with all of my contacts and i don't want my mac filled with all the temporary contacts that end up in a phone on a Friday night. All i want is to back up my phone to my mac in case i loose it. should be simple enough!

Can you have two address books on one icloud account?

No, you need separate iCloud accounts. If you want to maintain separate Address Books you and your wife should have separate user accounts on your Mac anyway.
You can setup separate Address Book groups within a Address Book in a single Mac user account.

I got my Macbook Air from a family member and I can't get my address book on my computer. What do I do to get the address book on it?

I purchased an Air Mac and can't get the address book on it. Does anyone have any ideas on what I should do. I have an IPhone and an IPad and they both have clouds but I don't see one on my Air Mac.

How can I get the address book to sort by "Last" name (using v 31.3.0).

After a computer crash, I had to load Thunderbird (v31.3.0) back into my machine running Windows 8.1, and I successfully imported my address book back up file into Thunderbird (v31.3.0).
My problem is that I don't see an option to sort the address book by "Last" name, which was available with the version of Thunderbird I had before the crash.
How can I get the address book to sort by "Last" name?

In 'Address Book'
Select address book
'View' > 'Show name as' > 'Last/First'
The you can sort by Name.
Either click on 'Name' column header to change sort order,
If reversed, then click on 'Name' column header again to reverse the order.
Or
'View' > 'Sort By' > choose 'Name' and 'Ascending'

Address book groups not updated in iSync and iTunes-iPod-info sync

Changes to address book groups are not reflected in iSync and iTunes. I.e. if I remove a group or add a group it is still the old list of groups that is listed in iSync and iTunes available for syncing with my phone or iPod. How do I get these list to be updated and reflect the present list in Address Book?

1. How to I re-load the address book with my 500+ contacts without loosing my groups and all the data? The suggestion in the other discussion doesn't give any guidance on this
2. What caused the problem to begin with? In other words, how can I prevent it from happening again?
I discovered the syncing problem about the time I did the following three things:
1. Upgraded to 10.5.2
2. Upgraded my iPhone (and iTunes) to 1.1.4
3. Installed Bento (possibly a red herring) -- but it DOES connect to address book

Address book groups in icloud

I have been a long time mac mail user and love it. With iCould I cannot seem to access my address book groups like in mac mail. Is there any way to send mail to these groups in icloud mail, like I can in mac mail. The reson being is that my office has sbcglobal as our IT provider and it has glitches with mac mail.

Set outgoing account based on address book group

Hello -- I am looking for a way to automatically set the account of new outgoing messages based on the address book group membership of the email recipient. For example, a script or rule that works something like:
If [any recipient] belongs to group [employer1] set message account [employer1];
If [any recipient] belongs to group [employer2] set message account [employer2];
If [any recipient] belongs to group [personal] set message account [personal];
etc.
Paul Berkowitz has written a very clever script to do exactly this for Entourage (see http://scriptbuilders.net/files/otheraccountx2.0.5.html) but I have been unable to locate an equivalent for Mail.app.
I would very much appreciate any suggestions regarding where to find (or how to build) a script, automator workflow, etc. that accomplished this task.

Assuming your point above is correct, is it possible to create a script or workflow that initiates a new outgoing email message then changes the account to something other than the default? For example, I might might disable [cmd-n] for new messages, then set up new shortcuts linked to simple scripts so that that [ctrl-cmd-A] would initiate a new message with the account set for Employer Alpha and [ctrl-cmd-b] would initiate a new message with the account set for Employer Beta. An alternative solution might be to write a script to replace the usual [cmd-n] with a simple dialogue box that forces me to make a conscious decision about the From account every time I initiate a new outgoing email message.
My goal here is to prevent a situation in which I forget to manually switch from the default account to the correct account for an outgoing message, thus inadvertently sending email from the wrong address. Either of the solutions I described in the paragraph above would meet my needs... might one or both of these might be possible?

Add contact from Mail directly to Address Book group?

I am aware of adding a contact to Address Book by Control-clicking the email address, however I would like to add an address directly from Mail to an Address Book group. How is this done?

You first need to open the message(s) that have the addresses you want to add to Address Book, then select the Add Addresses… script from the Mail Scripts folder listed in the Scripts icon in the menu bar (you can activate this by launching the AppleScript Utility.app program in HD/Applications/AppleScript and check the box labelled "Show Script Menu in menu bar" if it isn't already there).
The script will launch and gather the information it needs about those messages, including the To: and From addresses and present them to you in a window; you need only check which ones you want to add and select the group you want them to go to from the drop-down menu it has and click Add or Okay, or whatever it has listed there to execute the script.
Rinse and repeat for each different group of messages you want to add to a specific group.

ISync only certain Address Book Groups ... ?

Is there any way to synchronize only certain address book groups using iSync?
Right now, you have to either sync ALL contacts or only ONE group ....
I would prefer not to have to drag contacts into one new group everytime I add somebody new ....
Either have this feature or maybe one that recognizes Smart Groups ?
Or maybe I'm missing a button or preference that can make this happen? :P

OK but that not work fine...
After sync the phone with the Address Book group named TESTGRP I run these steps:
1) remove a contact from the TESTGRP group (remove only not delete the contact)
2) sync the phone too
3) on my phone the removed contact is already present

Address Book Groups - Squrrelmail

Hello,
We have a OS X Leopard server running the stock installation of squirrelmail, we have not configured any plugins, etc.
Is there a way to allow our users to setup address book groups/lists? I see a few plugins on the squirrelmail website, but they indicate you must have Squirrelmail using a database backend for address books. I do not believe Squirrelmail, on a mac server, uses a database as these plugins require. Now we have users who have built up address books, so switching would be more difficult.
Does anyone have any thoughts/suggestions?
