Maybe somebody knows what i have to do?

If Command - W or clciking the x in the tab won't work, then quit Safari & re-open it while holding the shift key.

Can't Close the Tabs in Safari

The X at the top right of each tab in Safari have dissappeared and I can't close individual tabs that I have open.
I would have to click FIle and then Close tab for each tab that is open. I like the other way better. What happened to it and how do I get the 'X' back? Thanks for your help!!

No there is no other icon besides the X to close the tab.
I don't think anyone installed any new software, extensions or plugin for safari. I share this computer with three other people so might be a possibility but I highly doubt it. I was trying to see if I can fix this issue by customizing my toolbar but there is no option for the tabs. Thank you for taking the time to help me with this!

Can't close firefox tabs even in safemode. (Windows 7)

I normally run firefox with NoScript and AdBlock. Lately I have been unable to close tabs and after research saw that it was recommended to try safe mode. Safe mode has been working fine for me, but just now I cleared my cache and now I can't close tabs even in safe mode.
Edit: Shortly after posting this question, I tried to open a new tab and firefox froze up. I had to close it via the task manager.

How can I close ALL tabs and clear the entire history?

Since an update, I can no longer clear all my history... I cannot close a remaining tab. As much as thios has been my favorite browser, I am annoyed at the failure to protect privacy, and am considering deleting this entire program. Please give me a way to correct this and return to an earlier version.

To close the tab you're viewing, you can press Ctrl+w. Does that still leave an uncloseable tab? Is it a built-in page or a page on the web?
There are many methods to delete history in Firefox. Which is the one you're using to clear history? Is it one of these?

When closing how can I close each tab rather than multiple/all tabs

I click the X to close and the pop up choice is all actually the number of open tabs (3 or 4 etc) or cancel. When I use Internet Explorer I can close each one at a time. "close all tabs or just this one" until all are closed

I don't know whether that is a built-in option.
Perhaps you can get used to a different way of closing tabs... You should have a small "x" on each tab, or you can right-click a tab and choose Close Tab, or you can press Ctrl+w to close the currently displayed tab. What do you think?

Can I close one tab without exiting the app?

I phrased my question badly, but also experimented and found the answer.
I intended to describe the situation where I had more than one window open, with several tabs in each.
Often, I will want to close all the tabs in one window while keeping the other window active.
I used to use the "Close this Tab" link in the menu to do that.
I experimented with using the "X" in the upper right of the window, since the tab itself disappears when there is just one open in a window ... and that worked.

Can remotely close Safari tabs on Macbook but not iPhone/iPad.

I am unable to remotely close iCloud Safari tabs on my mobile devices. iPhone and iPad are running iOS 8, and my Macbook Pro is running Yosemite. I can remotely close tabs from my Macbook, but when I try to swipe to delete iCloud tabs from my iPhone or iPad, I swipe, the red delete button shows up, but then I tap delete and nothing happens - the tab stays there and is still open on the original device.

The port is usually used for media. I would not know how to start to troubleshoot this, but are there any consistent steps/webpages that cause this to start?

How can I close a tab when the close button is not highlighted?

Firefox opens a new window with sites I never visited and don't want, I can not close these tabs or open another tab from them.

I open a new window and two sites appear, One I had never heard of till now. Digg. I can't open a new tab from these tabs, there is never an x on the tab and close all other tabs does not get rid of them.

Do a malware check with a few malware scan programs. 
You need to use all programs because each detects different malware.

Try the Reset Safari... option with all the options enabled and see if that helps.
If you need to have the browser terminate, you can resort to the Force Quit option (Option-Command-Esc).

I am unwilling to attempt navigation away from these sites. The pop-ups that occur on the attempt to leave a site or to close the browser are exit traps offering incentive to stay.
Once upon a time, when the internet was less dangerous, I would be willing to close the exit pop-ups. Now, after twice being infected with malware trying to close the pop-ups, I now force close whichever browser I am using.
Recently, I clicked on the red X to close one pop-up, and it installed a trojan that I had to pay to be removed. If I force the browser to close using Task manager, Please tell me how to stop FireFox from sending me directly back to the same site because it mistakenly believes it crashed when it did not. I forced it to close because I was on a site that had taken control of my browser and was not allowing me to leave the site.

Hi - it still did not contain a precise response to my problem. But then I wandered around some more in the Tools option and found "always show the tab bar". I unchecked that, and it seems that for now all the tabs are gone. Shall have to see if they return on restarting or rebooting. If so, will post back. Thanks.
