Can't close apps is07

Can't close apps in IS07.02 - swipe up just doesn't work

Double-press the Home button, then put one finger on the small app window (not the icon) and swipe it up off the screen.

  • IPad 2 Taskbar: Can't close apps when in Landscape

On my iPad 2, I can no longer close apps using the taskbar when in landscape orientation. I can double-click the Home button, press and hold one of the app icons, and they begin jittering like normal. However, pressing the red minus key does nothing. The OS seems to completely ignore the press. I can slide the icons back and forth like normal (when there's more than one screen of icons), and the taskbar closes and opens just like normal. But the red minus key doesn't work. Then, if I flip the iPad to portrait orientation, everything works as it should.
Any idea what's going on? I erased and restored from a backup but still have the issue.
    Thanks...

  • What happened to the home screen button from 1st gen iPad? Can't close apps.

I received a 1st generation iPad as a regift. It worked fine until I erased and synced it with my iTunes and other devices. Instead of the home button, it had that little circle in the corner to get you back to the home screen (don't know what that's called). Now that I've synced, that circle/button is gone, and the home button doesn't take me home. I am stuck in whatever app or settings screen I open, and can't close it without a full reboot. I'm not sure what ios it was using before I reset amd synced, but now it is using 5.1.1. Is this the problem? Any fixes?

If the unit has NEVER been jailbroke, first try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...  Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

  • Severe motion sickness and can't close apps

Is it me or is anyone else's eyes bugging out with the new design or feeling like they are on a ship? I also noticed in the Facebook app when commenting with Surrey, the box is super skinny and you cannot see what was typed before you click the send button. I think I am done with Apple and going out and buying myself a new birthday present

Motion: Try Settings > General > Accesibility and turn on Reduce Motion
Close apps: Press twice the Home button, then swipe up the app page (not the icon) you want to close.
    Hope that helps.

  • Can't close apps

After I upgraded the os to 4.2.1, the apps opened can't be completely closed after pressing the home button. For example, I play a game for a while and close it by pressing the home button, when I open the game again, it will not run the program from the beginning, but directly restore it

    Hello e7226,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
You need to remove it from your list of recently used Apps. To do this, double click the Home button. A list should pop up at the bottom of your iPod. Go and tap your finger and hold it over any one of those apps until a small red sign appears in the upper right corner of each. Go ahead and tap the red minus sign and it will remove the App from the list and kill any active or idle processes still tied to the App.
This is all part of the new multitasking feature that was introduced as of iOS 4.0. For more information, see this page.

  • HT204389 Can't close apps on Ipad Air

I have hit my home key twice to see the apps I already have open, i would like to close the apps, but holding my finger on the icon won't bring the apps to wiggle...any suggestions? I am able to wiggle the icons to delete them in the first home screen though...

With iOS 7 it's changed slightly - you still double-click the home button to open the multitasking bar, but you now swipe or drag the app 'screens' from there up and off the top of the screen to close them :

  • Can't import pictures to iPhoto and can't close app

    Good Day!
    iMac with OS X 10.8.2
    iPhoto 9.4.2
iPhoto as stopped working recently. It used to be fine.
I cannot import pictures anymore: From camera, it says it's importing but it hangs and I have to force quit. From desktop nothing happens.
Also, when I try to quit iPhoto it hangs. Have to force quit.
I have restarted iPhoto with "option-command" keys and went through all the options with no success.
I have deleted iPhoto (dragged from applications menu to trash) and reinstalled it with no success.
Any idea what I could try next?
    Regards,
    003

You could try to recover using Time Capsule, but I fear that the backed up iPhoto Library suffers from the same corruption. You could go back in time to earlier Time Machine backups on Time Capsule to try to find an uncorrupted, older version of your iPhoto Library.
Here's how to move all your photos into a brand new iPhoto Library. This is a brute force way to get all your original photos (and events) into a new, clean Library. I think that your album information will not be moved into the new Library and you'll need to recreate that.
I normally would not recommend doing this but because you have already rebuit your Library using Apple's method and also using IPhoto Library Manager and haven't succeeded, this is like a last resort.
    (1) Start iPhoto with option key held down to create a brand new, empty iPhoto Library. (I think you have done this already, actually.)
    (2) With iPhoto running from this new, empty iPhoto Library, go to your old, corrupted iPhoto Library in the Finder. Control-click on the corrupted Library and select Show Package Contents.
    (3) There should be a folder called Masters there. It should have lots of folders and photo files inside. Drag that Masters folder onto your open iPhoto window where you are running iPhoto connected to the new, empty iPhoto Library.
    (4) This should import (copy) into the new Library all the original photos from the old, corrupted Library.
    (5) You may find that the Event names are not what they were in the old, corrupted Library, but I think the photos will still be grouped into the same Events as before.
    (6) Close iPhoto. Reopen iPhoto, see that this new Library appears to have all your photos as best you can.
You can return to your old, corrupted iPhoto Library for more attempts to revive it because this procedure does not do anything to that old Library. It simply copies all the photos into a new one.
Make sure you have enough disk space to essentially make a copy of the old Library befor eembarking on this.

  • After installing the new IOS 7 can't close apps I'm not using

I used to be able to double click to bring up the apps I wanted to close out of (thus, helping my system not bog down).  I guess this is no longer an option with IOS 7?

It is still an option... look to your right under "More Like This" for related discussions. -->

  • How do I close apps on iPad in ios7?

  • My iPad closes apps and returns to the main page

This has just started in tha last two weeks.  it's really bad in mail when I get half way through a email message to send out the app closes and returns to the main page. It does'nt save a draft at that point either?

Lots of things can be causing this but I'll cover two of the more frequent causes. Let's start by having you restart your device: hold the power button in the top right until the red slider appears. Slide it to the left and let it power off. When the screen is black, wait approximately 5 seconds, then hold the power button on.
When the machine boots up, your apps will have closed freeing up lots of memory; alternatively, you can force close apps, by double clicking the Home button and holding your finger on an App until the minus signs appear; click the minus sign. If your apps were quitting due to lack of memory, this will have fixed the issue.
However, if the issue is still occuring, my next bet would be a failed update (iOS, App, etc). If you have a recent backup, Restore to that backup, otherwise you'll be doing a factory restore (or restoring like new). You can find directions on how to do both below:
How to Restore from Backup: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
    Reset as New: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
I wouldn't recommend backing it up at this point as its likely corrupt.

  • IPad 2 with iOS 6 spontaneously closes apps in the middle of using them. Some wont even open they start working and then close immediately. How can I fix this?

After uploading new iOS 6 my iPad 2 randomly quits apps in the middle of using them and sometimes won't even open apps. What can I do to fix this?

    1. Double-click the Home button to close all Inactive Apps in Task Bar
    2. Hold the Apps in Task Bar down for a second or two until you see the minus sign
    3. Tap the minus sign to close Apps
    4. Tap center of screen to return to Home Screen
    5. Reset iPad. Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 second until you see the Apple logo.

Double-tap on the Home button. You will see a preview of the app above the actual icon. Slide the preview up to kill it.
