Can't close iphoto

iphoto froze while importing 6 photos. Photos are on the screen but not in the library yet. Now I can't close iphoto, keeps saying 'photos are being imported' but nothing is happening. Tried switching off, restarting, reconnecting camera and still can't close iphoto. Any ideas?

Go to the Apple menu in the upper left hand corner and select Force Quit.  In the window that comes up select iPhoto and then click on the Force Quit button.
Now launch iPhoto and see if it will open as it should.

Use Force quit from the -menu in the upper left corner of your screen.
          >    Force Quit
    Then restart your Mac.
    If the problem persists,
Select the iPhoto Library in the Finder. By default it is in your Pictures folder.
Ctrl-click or right-click the iPhoto lIbrary. Select "show package contents" from the panel, that will pop up.
Look for a folder named "Importing" or "Import". Remove this folder, but don't touch anything else.
    Then launch iPhoto again.
If iPhoto now is working again, check the folder you removed, if there are any photos that you want to keep and save them.

My iPhoto is Garbage. I only have 146 picts in my iPhoto Alblum and it won't scroll anymore. In fact I can't do any commands in iPhoto it either doesn't do anything or freezes. I can't even quit iPhoto. When I try to use my Mac I can't even do most tasks because iPhoto is still trying to compete.

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • IPhoto ejected my memory card mid import but is saying that there is still an import in progress.  I can't close the program or shutdown my computer.

I was trying to import some photos (probably close to 300) and iphoto ejected my memory card in the middle of that process.  The photos have not been imported, and now I can't close iPhoto, or even shut down my computer (macbook pro) because it keeps saying that Iphoto is cancelling restarts.  I've tried to close the program but it doesn't seem to be working.
Does anyone have any tips on how to get iphoto to shut down mid import?

  • How do I close iPhoto if it says iPhoto can not close because it is still uploading photos into photo library?

Because I can not close iPhoto I can not update my comuter because my computer can not restart.

Disable Photo Stream in the iCloud preference pane.

  • Trying to order my photobook. Assembly fine.Upload fails. 3 times. Tried "retry". Now can't cancel, can't close computer Very frustrated

What do I do if upload fails for my photobook? now frozen - have hit retry, started then failed again, now whole system seems frozen - won't cancel, can't close computer as it says close iphoto first and can't close iphoto. Never had a problem with another type of photobook

Force quit, launch iPhoto and preview your book to be sure it is ok and correct as the printed book will exactly match the preview - if it still will not upload then boot into Safe mode, preview again (safe mode has less fonts so things might change) and if it is good order while in safe mode

  • Unable to close iPhoto.

When attempting to close iphoto a message box states photos are being imported to the photo library, please wait for download to be complete. however I can't find where these are coming from or a progress of any downloads. This means i can't close iphoto or shut down my computer. I've tried to fix this by attempting an update of iphoto but this download message still appears preventing me from updating. Any ideas please?

It's ok just worked out how to force quit! yesss

You should be able to select Force Quit from the menu beneath the Apple icon in Finder
and choose to Quit iPhoto from there, without messing up the Mac OS X in the process.
    OS X - Support
Not sure if rebuilding the iPhoto library would help this issue. However if you had to
turn off the computer without the correct method (unplug, etc; instead of menu choice)
the system may have accrued damages and should be checked, maybe repaired by
use of the Disk Utility in the system. Or restart the computer in Safe Boot mode, then
run 'repair disk permissions' while it is running in that reduced mode; then restart after.

  • How can I close my iPhoto on my MacBook Air?

I had tried to import my photos to my mac book from my iPod, i tried to stop the import but wasn't patient enough with it so i unplugged my iPod and i checked on it later and my photos weren't there. As a result of my being inpatient i can't close the iPhoto cause it says "Photos are being imported to the photo library.  Please wait for import to complete"
I hope i make sense lol

Try manually closing the app by double clicking the Home button and deleting iPhoto from the dock. How yo do it depends upon the iOS version.
    Next
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
      - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

You are on Windows 2000, you do not have a "Firefox" button, and should consider yourself to be fortunate in that you still have menus and don't have to do anything to get the menus back instead of the "Firefox" button. (The same applies to Windows XP users).
Use the "File" menu to get to Import. You are not on Windows 7 or Vista, and don't have to put up with the nonsense added for Aero.
If you want the "Firefox" button you can get it with View -> toolbars -> (uncheck) Menu Bar. The menu bar and the "Firefox" button were supposed to be mutually exclusive (which is impossible in some cases without being incompatible).
Once you are using the "Firefox" button ...
Use the "Alt" key to view the menu bar (temporarily) containing File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, and Help. On Windows 7 and Vista, the menu bar was hidden by default in Firefox 4 and above. These menu items are more or less available under the "Firefox" button which has the most used of the built-in Firefox menu items available in a different format.
To get back to having menus again. "Firefox" button -> Options (second column) -> (check) Menu Bar
You can make '''Firefox 7.0.1''' look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered '''items 1-10''' in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 8.0, look like 3.6)]. • Can't import pictures to iPhoto and can't close app

    Good Day!
    iMac with OS X 10.8.2
    iPhoto 9.4.2
iPhoto as stopped working recently. It used to be fine.
I cannot import pictures anymore: From camera, it says it's importing but it hangs and I have to force quit. From desktop nothing happens.
Also, when I try to quit iPhoto it hangs. Have to force quit.
I have restarted iPhoto with "option-command" keys and went through all the options with no success.
I have deleted iPhoto (dragged from applications menu to trash) and reinstalled it with no success.
Any idea what I could try next?
    Regards,
    003

You could try to recover using Time Capsule, but I fear that the backed up iPhoto Library suffers from the same corruption. You could go back in time to earlier Time Machine backups on Time Capsule to try to find an uncorrupted, older version of your iPhoto Library.
Here's how to move all your photos into a brand new iPhoto Library. This is a brute force way to get all your original photos (and events) into a new, clean Library. I think that your album information will not be moved into the new Library and you'll need to recreate that.
I normally would not recommend doing this but because you have already rebuit your Library using Apple's method and also using IPhoto Library Manager and haven't succeeded, this is like a last resort.
    (1) Start iPhoto with option key held down to create a brand new, empty iPhoto Library. (I think you have done this already, actually.)
    (2) With iPhoto running from this new, empty iPhoto Library, go to your old, corrupted iPhoto Library in the Finder. Control-click on the corrupted Library and select Show Package Contents.
    (3) There should be a folder called Masters there. It should have lots of folders and photo files inside. Drag that Masters folder onto your open iPhoto window where you are running iPhoto connected to the new, empty iPhoto Library.
    (4) This should import (copy) into the new Library all the original photos from the old, corrupted Library.
    (5) You may find that the Event names are not what they were in the old, corrupted Library, but I think the photos will still be grouped into the same Events as before.
    (6) Close iPhoto. Reopen iPhoto, see that this new Library appears to have all your photos as best you can.
You can return to your old, corrupted iPhoto Library for more attempts to revive it because this procedure does not do anything to that old Library. It simply copies all the photos into a new one.
Make sure you have enough disk space to essentially make a copy of the old Library befor eembarking on this.

  • I can not export photos onto DVD. After I click export, close iPhoto, click Finder, At this point I can't find the file to burn. (copy to be used on Windows) Sorry for the lame question....new to mac

I can not export photos onto DVD. After I click export, close iPhoto, click Finder, At this point I can't find the file to burn. (copy to be used on Windows) Sorry for the lame question....new to mac

So it sounds like you are trying to burn a DVD with photos on it so the photos can be either transferred to or displayed on a Windows PC, is that correct?
For the purposes of this I am going to assume you are using iPhoto '11.
Gather the photos you want to burn to DVD in one album in iPhoto. This is not absolutely necessary but it sure makes things easier for me.
Select that album, then go to the File menu and select Export...
In the dialog that shows up, select the File Export tab. Select the setting you want to use for export. Click the Export button.
Another dialog will show up. Set the location to Desktop and click the New Folder button. Name the folder something nice and descriptive and click the Create button.
Click the OK button. Quit iPhoto as the rest of this work will be done in the Finder.
You will now have a folder on your desktop with that nice descriptive name. Find it and select it. Go to the File menu and from it select Burn "Descriptive folder name" to Disc...
Insert a blank DVD when prompted.
Let the finder complete the work and eject the disc afterwards.
    That's it. Best of luck.
