Can't complete iTunes installation

My son purchased a "new" used iPod and the old version of iTunes is not recognizing the device. (This is his 3rd iPod) When I tried to install the most recent Itunes the error message tells me that "iPod service could not be stopped. Verify that you have sufficient priviliges to stop system services."
Help!

  • Can't complete windows installation - Stuck at Press any key to boot from..

I am unable to install windows xp service pack 3 or windows 7 on to my iMac running latest boot camp installer. I can start the installation process, but when windows installer completes copying all the files on to the boot camp partition and reboots the system I get stuck at this message "PRESS ANY KEY TO BOOT FROM A CD OR DVD", which won't go away even if I wait for 10-15 minutes. To get rid of this I have to hard reset the iMac by pressing the power button for a few seconds and then boot into Mac HD using the option key.
Please advise if I need to tweak some settings to complete the installation or if you need more information to resolve this issue. Thanks!

I was able to complete the installation process by formatting the windows bootcamp partition through windows installer (and not using Mac disk utility to format the partition into NTFS format). Hope this helps someone.

  • Can't Open iTunes, installer window appears asking to restart the computer

I have windows Vista-64 bit and I downloaded iTunes 8.0.2. Now once I install the software and use it the first time, it works fine. But after first time whenever I try to open iTunes it takes to the installer window which says "please wait while iTunes configure" and then I get the message "You must restart your system for the configuration changes made to iTunes to take effect. Click Yes to restart now or No if you plan to restart later". If I restart my computer and try to iTunes again, I am again taken to this installer window and the same messages appear. Thus I cannot open Itunes. Unless I uninstall it, and then reinstall it. Then I use it only the first time after installation. But as soon as I exit, i would face the same problem again. Please help

I don't know anything about 64 bit systems and there are differences in the registry. However this problem seems to be due to a problem writing to certain registry keys due to permission issues. HKEYCLASSESROOT\.pcast seems to crop up. this post may help you:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5489263#5489263
But if you use the the event viewer to look at error messages after the problem has occurred you may find the the problem registry key.
If you are running iTunes from a limited user account, temporarily promoting the account might work.
Sometimes you can work round this issue by creating a short cut directly from iTunes.exe. Go to Program Files\iTunes and try starting iTunes.exe. If it opens OK, right click on iTunes.exe and select Send to>>Desktop(Create shortcut). Then use this to open iTunes. It does not fix the underlying problem which is that auto repair is being triggered as the install did not complete fully.

  • Can't install itunes: installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file: C:\program data\{0DD0EEEE-2A7C-411C-9243-1AE62F445FC3}\X64\GEARaspiWDM.inf., I have tried EVERYTHING help!

This is installing the latest verison of itunes, 10.5, and I get this message everytime I install. My PC is so messed up now from changing permissions that I'm looking for the quick and easy fix! I've tried everything that has to do with uninstalling and reinstalling but there's always folders that my computer won't let me delete so I can't ever completely get rid of itunes. I have also tried many things that have to do with regedit with no luck. PLEASE help!

The 'quick andeasy' are usually the most trouble with poor outcome and lost time.

Some files need to be deleted manually.
Revo has been recommended. It does and can work around.
Apple's installers place files in non-standard locations on x64 which is a large part of the problem. But nothing that a normal install and person would need to changer ownership and special permissions.
I've also never in 6 yrs used any regedit but do run CCleaner (3.12) on regular basis.
Might be time to sit and spend a day, leave your system as is, and install on another partition or drive instead. If you want, use Windows Easy Transfer.
This is one of the longer threads about problems, not all same, not resolved for everyone:

Normally the Apple tech note tells you where to look to delete.
Apple installers leave behind the old installer and cache, which can be a problem.
iTunes has changed where things go without picking up its own mess it created and left behind.

I HOPE YOU WILL FIND A SOLUTION QUICKLY, ITS NOT REALLY GOOD WHAT YOUR DEVELOPMENTS HAVE DONE WITH MY COMPUTER
AND I DO NOT WANT TO HEAR ANSWER TO REINSTALL THE SYSTEM.

I am assuming this is a new installation.  Where did you buy your copy of CS4?
CS4 has not been sold by Adobe for 2 years.  If you bought it at eBay there are a lot of counterfiet copies floating around.
To see if your serial number is legit call Adobe and they will tell you if it is or not.

  • Can't install iTunes 9.2

Hi--I am trying to upgrade my iPod Touch to the new iOS4. In order to do that, I have to upgrade my iTunes software from 9.0 to 9.2. When I try to update using both the Apple Software Updater, or by downloading iTunes from the website, I am unable to complete the installation and I get several different messages as to why I can't complete it. The two messages I usually get are: there are files missing so iTunes can't complete the installation or I do not have proper permission to complete the update and to contact my administrator. However, I am the owner of the computer.
I have never had this trouble before in upgrading iTunes, and I have not deleted any files before the upgrade.
Any help would be most appreciated!

it is impossible to tell what is going on here.
Can you be more precise about the error messages and at what stage they appear.
For example do you get messages about missing msi files? - This needs the Microsoft Installer cleanup utility.
If you have permission issues, have you tried running the downloaded installer with "Run as Administrator"?
If it is hard to get a clear error message you can try installing the components of iTunes individually to see which one is causing trouble and possible get a better error message.
Launch Apple Software Update ("Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update"). Do not install anything at this stage.
In Apple Software Update, go "Tools > Open Downloaded Applications Folder". Delete any files currently in the Downloaded Applications folder.
Now go back into the main ASU screen. Select iTunes, and go "Tools > Download only".
After the downloads have completed, go back into the Downloaded Applications folder. Doubleclick on the AppleApplicationSupport.msi file to start a standalone Apple Application Support install, then do the other components finishing with Quicktime then finally iTunes itself.

  • I've been a Firefox user for years but I can't complete new Firefox download. The actual download goes well, but then I'm told to move Firefox icon into applications folder when prompted, but I don't get prompted.

I've been a Firefox user for years, but now you offer me a new version and I can't complete the installation process. The initial download goes well but then I'm instructed to move the icon into my applications folder when prompted and I don't get prompted. Nothing whatever happens. What am I doing wrong?

We are not around here 24 hours, so you may need to wait for a response.
The DMG (disk image) file is the Firefox installation file that you can download from the Mozilla site and save to your desktop. You can double click that file to open the image.
    From [[Installing Firefox on Mac]]:
    * Once the download has completed, the disk image may open by itself and mount a new volume which contains the Firefox application. If you do not see the new volume, double-click the Firefox dmg icon to open it.
    * A Finder window appears, containing the Firefox application. Drag the Firefox Icon into the Applications folder.

Can't install itunes on a new Win7 machine. Get a message "There is a problem with this Windows installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run"

Have you completed all windows update including service Pack1?  If not, please complete all the windows update then follow steps below to re-install all over.
    1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
    2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Follow the instructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components
    3. Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch

  • I have a Windows 2003 Server 64-Bit, and when I upgraded to Firefox 4.0.1 now it won't run, it keeps saying to restart to complete the installation, but I've restarted theserver 4 times, and I still can't use it.

I ended up putting it in DFU mode.  It's kinda hard to tell it was in DFU mode because nothing showed on the screen, it was just black, but the sounds from the computer helped to tell me it was connected.
Itunes still didn't recognize the device for whatever reason.
So I used redsn0w.  I don't know if I can say that on these forums, but considering itunes was worthless at this point I am going to give credit where credit is due.
Now I am giving itunes a second chance to upgrade to 5.1, if it doesn't work, well, back to redsnow and maybe I will even jailbreak it this time rather than just using the fecovery fix found under extras.

I pulled my brains out trying to figure this bug out and I may have a solution for you.
All of it installed fine in my desktop, but a friend's laptop got the error you mentioned on quicktime, itunes, flash, officeXP and about anything else I tried to load for him.
If you look in: C:\documents and settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp there will be an iTunes install log...open it in Notepad and see if it isn't exiting with a 1619 error while running msiexec.exe
If this is the case, this fix should work for you.
Seems some configurations of XP (and possibly Vista) aren't allowing full administrator rights to the account you set up when you installed XP (even though User Editor says you do have those rights.)
I read 2 MS articles and turned off simple file sharing, then gave ownership of the entire C: drive to the administrator. Logged the admin account off, logged his "admin" account in, and then gave rights to his personal directory to his account (c:\docs and settings\<username>)
Once I did that, every install that had previously errored out performed flawlessly.
    The MS articles in question:
    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=316309 (1619 error)
    and
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=308419 (how to set special permissions)
    Hope this helps!
