Can't completely uninstall iPlanet 6 on Windows XP

iPlanet 6 was running and working on my Windows XP box. Then, one day, it stopped working....(that's a long story). I tried to re-install it. The installation wouldn't work without first uninstalling it. So, I uninstalled it, by running the uninstall that came with the iPlanet program group. I removed the folders from the C: drive where iPlanet had been installed. I've done searches in the registry keys for "slapd" and found no occurances. I've uninstalled Netscape. I searched and removed registry keys for "netscape" and "iplanet". I rebooted. ........ And I'm still getting an error when I try to install iPlanet saying that it's already installed.
Anyone have any ideas?

If you have reproducible steps for simulating this issue, please post in the forum.
There is a general way of cleaning up if uninstallation is unsuccessful. It seems you have tried all those. Except possibly one step: check the services, are there any services associated with the uninstalled software still lingering on? You can check this by running services.msc from start->run. Check the Service Name in properties dialog. If they are still lingering, you can delete them either from registry (search by Service Name) or running sc.exe. sc.exe comes with Windows on XP/2003. sc delete <Service name> removes the service. sc query > abc.txt will list down all services registered on the machine and their status etc. in abc.txt. HTH.

  • How can i completely uninstall itunes & quick time

i spent the last week downloading all the "This Week in Tech" (TWiT) video podcasts (torrent files) so i could watch them today. they are h264.mov files.
i have XP HOME, iTunes 4.6.0.15 and Quick Time 6.5.2.
the h264.mov files won't play in Quick Time.
i've have since found out that the new Quick Time 7 is required to play this format. i followed the "new quick time available" link in my QT window and downloaded the new iTunes/QT install file.
i tried to install the combined iTunes 6 and QT 7 ... it left me with iTunes uninstalled and the old QT software still there. no sign of anything new.
so, i figured i'd uninstall iTunes before the new install. iTunes refuses to uninstall. i go to add/remove programs and ask to uninstall it. the whole uninstall process completes but iTunes is still there. so is QT.
i uninstalled QT first then tried to uninstall iTunes. it objected to the uninstall because it couldn't find QT.
i have tried every combination but nothing gets rid of these 2 programs!
i finally decided to BUY the new full QT7. however, the 'BUY' consists of just buying the release code for the player ... which, of course, i can't install.
so, in addition to spending all week downloading the torrents of all TWiT video podcasts, i've spent over 5 hours trying to get some software to play these files.
if anyone knows how to get iTunes and QT completely OFF my pc (so i can do a clean install of iTunes 6 and QT7), i'd greatly appreciate it.
    thanks in advance

kristina, the registry edit did not help.
b, i tried re-installing version 4 and got "Error connecting to service manager = 0" error message.
so i followed your link to the "iTunes for Windows installation quits with 1607 error or while publishing product information" page. i'm not sure i want to try this. here are the steps listed:
    # Locate the original Windows XP Home Edition CD that came with your PC or the upgrade disc used to install Windows XP Home Edition.
    # Insert the disc into your PC and use it to begin reinstalling Windows
    # During installation, your computer will restart or you will be prompted to do so in order to continue.
    # After the computer restarts you'll see a dialog asking if you want to install Windows. Select the option to install Windows. A repair option will be presented.
    # Choose the option to repair an installation of Windows
    # After the repair is completed, your PC should restart.
    # Attempt to reinstall iTunes.
this sounds iffy. the last thing i want to do is to accidently start a windows install. with the software i would need to reinstall, this is a 3 day project. and even if a windows install is averted, i don't want to restore windows files to those BEFORE sp1 and sp2.
i do think we're heading in the wrong direction. why is there no way to UN-install these programs? even the steps above end with the phrase "attempt (sic) to reinstall itunes". again, why can't i just uninstall itunes and quicktime?

    Frank,
Updating the OS to Windows 8.1 does destroy the Recovery Manager -- side "benefit" that seems to go unmentioned by some of the enthusiasts of Upgrades.  On the other hand, unless the system comes with 8.1 there is little you can do -- Windows 8 is rather sad.    You have the choice of a weird hybrid "almost" Windows 8.1 or running Windows 8.  Eeeew.  I chose the upgrade on the one Windows 8 system I have -- same level of frustration but at least the problems are different than running sad Windows 8.  Smiling.
Because you know your system runs Windows 8.1 -- and there are apparently the Drivers at your system's HP Support pages for Windows 8.1 (very important), you might consider purchasing Windows 8.1 Pro and being done with the hybrid upgrade OS.  You still lose the Recovery Manager, of course, purchased 8.1 does not provide the HP Recovery Manager -- but at least the OS is stable.   You still install the HP drivers from the computer's Support site, of course.  I actually purchased 8.1 for my upgrade system and have only been too lazy to install it.  Sigh.
You can use third party Image software to back up the system.  Certainly not the only one, and maybe not even the best according to whom you ask -- one such tool:
Redo software is free and is NOT Windows dependent.
The software can be used with Both Windows and Linux Operating Systems.

  • Can't Completely Uninstall an App That Doesn't Exist Anymore

Alright, so I've got a very run-of-the-mill, mid-2011 Macbook Air (1.6 GHz Intel Core i5, 2 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, running Yosemite) and everything really does run just fine. The only issue I've been having is completely eliminating traces of a particular app that actually doesn't exist anymore.
Some time ago, I downloaded a little To-Do List sort of thing called Intuition+. It was made to be a checklist, and also a planner that would integrate with Calendar. Not very long after I got the app, the company deleted it entirely. I did as much as I knew how to get rid of anything associated with it on my laptop, but it still shows up as a calendar option in Calendar.
Now, I know it's probably harmless, but it drives me nuts that I can't get rid of the **** thing 100%. It was called Intuition+. Any advice?
Apologies if I'm leaving out any info that might be helpful-- I've never posted here before, so let me know what I can do to help you help me 8)

So this is an app that you've downloaded from the iTunes store, not from the Mac App Store ? If it is then it should be in the Apps part of your iTunes library - if you have iTunes 11 on your Mac then option-command-S should enable the left-hand sidebar, and on that sidebar there should be an Apps section e.g.
But apps from the iTunes store can only be installed/used on iOS devices i.e. an iPhone, iPod Touch and/or an iPad (they will appear in your iTunes library for syncing and backup purposes) - you can't use iTunes apps on a Mac.

  • Tried to do a clean reinstall, but cannot find/delete my old Thunderbird data--how can I completely uninstall Thunderbird on MacBook Pro with OS 10.8.5?

Had a bug in my Thunderbird 24.4.0 (error message stating not enough room in folders, must delete messages, etc.---but this doesn't work) and attempted to download and install a new T-bird program. I saved mail folders & addresses from my profile (in user/hank/library/caches/,metadata/Thunderbird) on a thumb drive after verifying that it was my current stuff---took an hour--- then deleted it, and also deleted the program in my Applications folder.
However, when I installed the new program, it automatically showed all my same emails, folders and data. I figured I had not removed the old stuff properly, but it was "gone"---and the error message continued to appear, keeping me from downloading messages. Obviously the newly installed Thunderbird had gotten it from somewhere, but I don't know where!
This morning I opened T-bird again, and now it seems to be working normally! Halleluja---but I realize I don't know where the stuff was stored. So my questions are:
    (1) How do you uninstall Thunderbird?
    (2) Where is the data REALLY stored?

Your settings and email are stored in your profile. This is separate from the program as you discovered. Under the HELP menu is a selecting Troubleshooting Information. There is a button there that shows where your profile is located.

  • When installing (after completely uninstalling iTunes) several times, windows 8.1 tells me to verify that I have access to C:\program files(x86)\itunes\itunes.resources\ar.lproj\printingtemplates\11.insert.textonl ybw.xml.  so ***?

So basically, the main problem I've been having is since today I have not been able to access iTunes.  After trying to repair, check for updates, etc.  I uninstalled everything related to iTunes and reinstalled.  Everything was going well until I was told to verify that I have access to that specific file listed in the title.  Which to me is strange because I'm the only one who has access to this computer.

I am having the same issue with Vista 64 bit: After many failed download attempts ("network error") the Progress Bar briefly appears and that's it.
Searched for solution that led me to running "Microsoft FixIt", deinstalling iTunes, Apple Software Update, Mobile Dev Support, Bonjour, and Application Support - even manually deleting common files that were left over (tough with Vista). No difference. FYI, I was able to get rid of the Apple folder in Program Files (x86)/Common File, but not in Program Files/Common Files ... but that shouldn't make a difference as I am installing iTunes64Setup.exe, right?
I even tried iTunes 10.7 and 10.6.3 from Apple's support page ... same differnce.
Had a lot of security updates on 1/22/14 (all related to Office 2007 (including SP3), though). So I tried to restore past this point, but an "unknown error" occurred and I am stuck where I am ... lovely.
So now my system is chopped and I seem to not be able to get iTunes even close to my computer ... :-(
Just Irritatedtech said: Any suggestions are highly welcome ... - Thx.

  • Adobe Application Manager Complete Uninstall

    Hi!
I've been using Adobe Acrobat XI for a trial period. The program is good, however I'm not willing to purchase a license at present. So, I've removed it.
BUT Adobe Application Manager still resides in my system. I cannot uninstall it neither through Windows Control Panel, nor with the help of third parties uninstallers (Revo Uninstaller, Absolute Uninstaller, Final Uninstaller). Using Creative Suit Cleaner Tool. http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html was also unsuccessful.
So, the question is: How can I completely uninstall Adobe Application Manager from my system (Windows 7 HP x64)?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

AAM is needed if you run any other Adobe software. see this post for uninstall info and more: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4723542

  • Completely uninstall iTunes

    Hi all,
I want to completely UNinstall iTunes (under Windows XP).
My iPod Shuffle 2G has read/write errors with iTunes 7.2 on my PC. I tried installing iTunes 7.2 on a one friend of mine's PC and it works very well! So, the conclusion is that my iPod works and I must uninstall then re-install iTunes on my PC.
I have tried to uninstall iTunes/QuickTime, reboot my PC, then reinstall the latest version of iTunes, but it doesn't work at all: my iPod is still in a perpetual read/write error state :-(((
How could I achieve a complete uninstall of iTunes under Windows XP? I want to avoid a complete reinstall of my whole system if I could...
    Please help!
    Thanks a lot.
    laptop PC   Windows XP Pro

Kind of odd that you never mention reformatting,
resetting and/or restoring your shuffle on the other
computer and then trying it on the original system...
instead you chose to dump the shuffle.
In a previous message, I told that I've tried that (on another PC and on a Mac).
When an iPod Shuffle 2G is connected to a machine for the first time -- even if it has been used on another machine --, iTunes says "This iPod has been used on another computer. If you want to use it on this machine, it will be reset". This is what have been done! But after that, on my own PC, the problem still exists: reset iPod, rename iPod, but read/write errors remains...
Since yesterday, I am the happy owner of a Creative Zen Stone 1 GB. It is perfectly recognized as a USB mass-storage device, and all you need to do is drag'n drop MP3 files on it!
Apple iPod for me? Maybe next time.
Thanks all for the help provided.
