Can't conference

Hi all,
I have the newest version of ichat av and my mac is a mac os x 10.4.8 and i still can't conference video chat with more than one person. i have tried downloading new programs but they say its for 10.3 or something like that. i don't know much about computers, but it says on the mac website that i have the system requirements... any ideas to why the conferences aren't working? it says when i try to do one that there is already a conference in session. HELP PLEASE!
Jordan

Hi,
Your upload speed, from the speed test report, (79mbps) is not sufficient for multi video chat (officialy not even for 2 way). I have noticed your bandwidth fluctuates from very low to good.. You are connected with an ethernet cable to a university network, I could chat with you nicely and connection never failed. Your MacBook Pro is one of the few Macs on the network that cannot do multi person Chats.
The ability to host or participate in a multi-way (multi-person, such as 4-way) iChat conference is based on these factors and requirements:
Your computer's capabilities
Buddy's computer's capabilities
Available bandwidth
If you have buddies in your buddy list that don't meet the requirements for mutil-way conferencing, they won't appear in your Buddy List with a multi-way icon. Similarly, if your computer and bandwidth do not meet the requirements to host and/or participate in a multi-way conference, you will not appear in others' Buddy Lists as capable of doing so.
How does iChat determine if you are capable of joining or hosting a multiperson chat?
When iChat is opened, it performs a series of tests to determine if multi-person chats are supported with available bandwidth (the specifics are documented here).
iChat also checks the file "com.apple.ichat.plist" in ~/Library/Preferences/ to detemine if defaut values have been set for bwdup and bwddown. It checks to see if the IP address stored in bwdid is the same as the current IP address of the computer, or if the settings are older than three days.
If any of these conditions are not met, iChat performs a .Mac bandwidth detection test to see if .Mac network bandwidth is fast enough to support a multi-way connection.
If the test succeeds, then multi-way chat is enabled.
Things to try if multiperson chat isn't enabled but system requirements are met
The network connection may not currently support the minimum bandwidth requirements. Work with your ISP or system administrator to examine the situation.
A firewall may be blocking iChat's ability to complete the test--see "Using iChat AV with a firewall or NAT router". If a firewall blocks the bandwidth test, iChat will check the QuickTime streaming settings in QuickTime preferences. If it has been manually set to 256 kbps DSL/Cable or lower, multi-way will be disabled. In some cases, if this value is set to Automatic, multiway may also be disabled. You should set this value to one that matches your network connection.
Does anyony one know how to solve this problem, I think it can only be bandwidth. But she's the only Mac that can't apparently. I have no idea,
The case is described in the first alinea.
TIA,
JP

  • Can I conference using Messages?

I would like to conference with two other people using Messages in iOS. Is this possible? I would like for all of us to be able to see each others responses. I want to avoid conducting two simultaneous sessions with two different people. I know I can message both of them at the same time, but I want each of them to be able to see any responses they make to me. My other options would be Skype or Google Hangouts, but I would prefer to do it within Messages.

Fantastic! This will make it possible for me here in Thailand to conference with one son in Denver and another in Dallas during the Super Bowl. It will be great to be able to enjoy the game together.

FaceTime does not allow conference calls although they should. Oovoo doesnt really cut it for me on my iPad.

Not in Mavericks, but it's an announced feature of Yosemite.

  • 3D video conference icon not showing

Today my cable broadband was down to a very slow speed due to a problem in the area. After several hours it is back up to 6 mbs down and 256kbps up. That is my usual speed. Now, I noticed that the 3D icon that indicates that I can video conference was no longer 3D. My wife's macbook, which is on the same airport express router, had the correct 3D icon. This is the first time that has happened. What can I do to fix this?

    Hi Ira,
It should re-populate the com.apple.ichat.plist when you shut iChat down and again when it starts up to see the new speed.
This .plist is the one that stores the Bandwidth info.

  • Record 2 way video conference

Is it possible to record 2 way conference in a single file? I can record conference separately for both perticipents but can not record as a single recording file. Kindly help me if anyone has done yet.
    Thanks,

You can't record two streams to a single file with FMS. You'll need to record to separate files and develop your own timecode scheme to sync them on playback.

  • Video conference gets corrupted about 2 minutes in.  iChat 3 and 4 both.

I've been experiencing this with my mom and we can't figure out what the trick is.
She can video conference with my sister for a long time and never run into this issue.
I can video conference with anyone else for a long time and never run into this issue.
It only happens between my mom and I when we talk. After about a minute or two her video goes bad and it's hard to continue talking. She says my video is fine, and I can hear her, though the audio cuts in and out too.
I took a screen shot of what it looks like and put it on my site here:
    http://www.briancovalt.com/scary.jpg
Does anyone have an idea of what's happening. She has a 2 year old iBook (I think 1.07Ghz G4). I'm using both a MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo (built in iSight) and a Quad-Core G5 (iSight attached on top) - the problem happens with both machines.
We just upgraded her router to the newest Airport basestation. She's got a super quick cable connection.
I'm using a Linksys router with a fast DSL connection at home (opened up my ports for iChat), and at work I'm connected to our blazing fast network.
    Any ideas or suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Brian,.

wow, thanks for the answer. It did it.
At first I thought you said to keep the bandwidth at no limit, so I just made the first change and we still experienced the problem. Then I re-read your suggestion and saw that you said to limit it at 500. After doing that we were able to chat without a problem.
Do you mind explaining that though? It doesn't make sense to me. I thought that if the video was getting corrupted it'd be because there wasn't enough bandwidth, and the last thing I'd think to do is to cap it.
Thanks again for the answer, it saved us from total confusion.
    Brian.,

  • Can't see video in iChat

When I add a buddy I do not see their video icon. We both have google talk. We can video conference in google talk. When I initiate an iChat session I only see my video.

    Hi,
Most Jabber Apps that can Video and Audio Chat do so using a Protocol called Jingle.
GoogleTalk is a Jabber server and Google's version of Jingle is in their PC standalone apps that is also called GoogleTalk.
The Protocol is also used in the Plug-in for Web Browsers that you an get for Macs (Intel Only) and PCs
This will let a Mac Video to someone else using a Web Browser or the Standalone PC app.
The Google Version is not that compatible with other Jabber apps either.
Jingle is completely different from the SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) that iChat and AIM use.
Jingle and SIP will NOT connect together.
iChat CAN Video chat using Jabber or Google Names if both ends have iChat.

  • Can't chat with friends who use AIM unless .mac friends host group chat

For some reason, I can only text chat with my friends who use iChat with AIM accounts. When my friends with .mac accounts are on iChat, we can use video conference and send pictures via text easily.
The only way I can video conference with my AIM friends (and send pictures) is if the .mac friends host the chat. We've all made sure we're using the upgraded softwares, and we're all using iChat AV 3.1.8... We all have the correct preferences according to iChat help, as well as meet all requirements listed on the Apple site.
I have found no record of anyone else having this problem, nor can I find anything that remotely relates to anything similar.
What are we doing wrong??? Has anyone else experienced this?

    Ok,
Can you tell me everyone's Upload and download speeds please ?
    http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/page5.html#_speedtests
Also how is each person connected to the Internet ?
    Modem > computer Or
    Modem > router > computer ?
Can you list how the ports are opened or allowed in each device ?
If I understand you correctly can you add the other screen name to the other computer's iChat and see if it is computer related.
If you have done Port Forwarding then it is most likely this is to one computer. This would only allow one computer at your end to Video chat. (adding the other screen nmae should give you Video on both screen names). As you have changed the Login port to 443 for everyone you will be able to Text chat as this is below port 1024 which is where the ports need to opened if above this number.
As File sharing (sending Pics is on Port 5190 and UDP protocol this has not been moved and would explain why it can not be done.

  • Video Conference with a Windows PC

I have an iMac G5 with a separate iSight camera and my daughter has an iBook G4 with separate iSight camera. My son has a Windows PC with the following: Intel Extreme edition qx6700 quad core processor, 2 GB of ram and a BFG 8800 GTX video card. He is running a dual boot system with XP SP2/Vista. His camera is a MS Lifecam VX-3000. All of his drivers are up to date and he is using AIM with Trillian to communicate with his sister and me.
Our problem is that I can video conference with my daughter and a third person and my daughter can video conference with me and a third person, but my daughter and I can not video conference with my son. We can each individually iChat with my son, but video conferencing is not possible with him. Both my daughter and I have multiple iChat camera icons for each other when we launch iChat, but my son shows up with one iChat camera icon when he is online.
Is there something that can be done on his PC hardware or software wise where we can video conference with him? Or is this a problem with all PCs? Any help in figuring this out would be much appreciated! Thanks for your help.

Your son has a single camera icon because he is unable to participate in multi-way chats (macs only).
Get your son to check his windowa firewall and other settings:
    http://www.mvldesign.com/videoconferencetutorial.html
If that doesn't solve your problem, consider Skype instead. In my experience, Skype is a better bet for Mac-PC videochats.
Both sides will need to download the appropriate version of Skype:

  • Video Conferences in CUCME

Going through Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express system administrator guide I came to the section for configuring video conferences. On the prerequsites lists they say the feature is supported on Cisco 2900 and 3900 ISRs, Cisco IOS 15.1(4)M, CUCME 8.6 or later and PVDM3 modules. My two questions are:
(1). Is this doing video conferencing using Cisco Unified Video Advantage or some other video applications?
(2). Can these conferences be run on UC560 and UC540 platforms?

    1 and 2:
    No.
